Note4 + Bootloop + Odin + HOME_CSC Question - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
(TL;DR, skip directly to 4. Questions)
I have a problem which I though would require a qualified input.
I will try to explain briefly:
what the current situation is,
what the desired situation is,
how I intend to get there and
where I would appreciate some help.
1. Situation:
• Device: Samsung Note 4
• Device model: SM-N910C (as the the PRODUCT NAME field in Odin Mode indicates; please confirm)
• It's been in a bootloop since August (loads the SAMSUNG boot screen, then starts optimizing 2/2 apps and restarts)
• Odin v3.13.1 downloaded
• Odin Mode entered (VOLUME DOWN + POWER + HOME)
• Downloaded (from SAMMOBILE) all the possible latest firmware for SM-N910C and the country of purchase (Bulgaria) (there were 4 codes - BGL, GBL, MTL, VVT - so 4 .zip files in total, 2GB+ each)
2. Objective:
• Get out of the bootloop successfully, and
• Recover my personal data (app data, personal files, etc.) since I don't have any backups
3. Next steps (as far as I know):
• First, try to find out which of the 4 zip files downloaded from SAMMOBILE matches exactly my device
• Second, extract the pertinent archive and get 5 files (BL, AP, CP, CSC_ and HOME_CSC_)
• Third, add the BL, AP, CP and HOME_CSC_ files each to its respective field in Odin (HOME_CSC_ is what will preserve my personal data in contrast to CSC_ which will wipe it all)
• Fourth, in the Options tab select Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time only
• Then start Odin, let it work its magic and voilà!
4. Questions:
How do you find the exact country code of a device which is in a bootloop?
Why do I get only 1 .tar.md5 file instead of 5 (BL, AP, CL, CSC_ and HOME_CSC_) when I extract the .zip files I got from SAMMOBILE ?
Where and how do you find the appropriate HOME_CSC_ file for you device so that you get to preserve you personal data after flashing with Odin?
Is adding the 4 files (BL, AP, CL, HOME_CSC_) + selecting (only) Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time the only possible way to keep your data after using Odin?
Your help is greatly appreciated, I hope this thread would be of help to many people including me.
PS1: I read that for older devices (as in the case of Samsung Note4, I suppose) you get only 1 firmware file so, if correct, that would answer Question #2.
PS2: I read also that the single file for older devices does not reset app data and files. Is this correct? If so, then Questions #3 and #4 would also be answered.
PS3: I still would like to know which is the relevant country code in my case since there are 4 options (BGL, GBL, MTL and VVL).

I am facing similar issue, wondering no one replied to your query. I am curious how did you resolve it?

[Q] Changing Galaxy S4 CSC (i9505)

Hi everyone,
this maybe a very noob question but how do you change the CSC on the S4?
I recently flashed an unbranded UK firmware onto my Australian S4, back with my old phone, I was able to change the CSC with *#272*IMEI# though that doesn't seem to work now. So any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to change the CSC to a UK CSC so I'll be able to receive updates OTA or through kies.
1.Download the appropriate firmware for your region from sammobile.
2.Extract Hidden.img and cache.img
3.Now compress these two files together into a .Tar file.
4.Flash this in PDA section of Odin
5.You now have correct CSC
Sent from my GT-I9305 using XDA Premium HD app
Is anyone having trouble changing their CSC?
I've flashed the pre-rooted UK Firmware, and used CSC Changer to set the CSC to BTU.
It automatically re-boots, but the CSC hasn't changed.
I boot into recovery and perform a F.Reset, and the CSC still doesn't change to BTU.
As far as I can tell, I'm following all instructions correctly from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
"If someone want to change CSC, please use this app: Samsung Galaxy S2/S3 CSC
After using this app you MUST reboot into RECOVERY for the changes to take place.
Don't worry if you see some errors in recovery, it's NORMAL as "hidden.img" is excluded..
WORKS perfectly! TESTED!! "
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, and I'm getting increasingly frustrated!

Tried that without success. Got a failure in Odin.
There's no hidden.img nor cache.img but hidden.img.ext4 and cache.img.ext4. Are these the correct files?
I downloaded latest btu UK firmware
Loaded with odin
Did a factory reset
Switched if and then went into recovery mode
Rebooted and btu was activated
I was not rooted

they are just ext4 formats so u could mount it on linux or something else..
use mkuserimg.sh command to convert
I'm also interested in this. I also changed from Australian firmware to UK. Since changing I've noticed HD voice (wb amr) is off (check by typing *#0011# into dialer then menu key>back>menu key>key input >enter '1' then wait till menu appears >WB AMR Status.)
Prior to changing roms both WB AMR Setting and UTMS WB was On. Now they're both off. I did some searching and apparently its tied to the CSC.
so.....how do we change csc to s4? i have installed unbranded rom, wiped but csc remained the same. how de we change this?
I9505 stuck with wrong CSC

I am also stuck after trying several suggestions of fixes..
The Sammobile firmware for NEE (Nordic) gives a CSC of BTU, i previously had H3G
Looks like we will have to wait till DEV's get time to build a work-around.
Doing web searches there are several dodgy sites that claim older changers work on the S4 & also giving instructions to install via the old way with the 3 files, instead of just the PDA.

Very well written article, so thank you for the link. Sadly though, one of the methods worked for me. Any more ideas gratefully received though!

i just reboted in stock android recovery (hold vol up + home button+ power),and it said "applied multi csc....and it changed the csc to the my curent firmware¨s csc
I am trying to set my csc to BTU. Im using csc changer app.
However everytime I run it, I dont get a screen allowing me to choose the csc as they show in guides.
I know the app works, since its changed my csc from EVR to DBT (since my rom is german based).
What am I doing wrong?
After playing around with several stock firmwares and Odin, I accidentally stumbled upon a method to change the CSC of my S4 I9505 without the need to root the device. I successfully changed from the original TGY (Hong Kong) to SIN (Singapore) and then to DBT (Germany). This is what I did (in summary)
Make sure you take a backup via Kies if you need personal files
Download the respective stock ROMS from sammobile.com or samsung-updates.com or see thread on Stock Roms on XDA
Extract zip to get tar.md5
Put device into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power) and Flash using Odin (PDA option)
Wait till device reboots back into Android after completing the flash and recovery
Once device reboots, do a Factory Reset via Settings > Accounts
Once device reboots after Factory Reset/recovery, enter the google account info and restore settings and then turn off the device
Boot device back into download mode (Vol down+ Home + Power)
Re-flash the same downloaded firmware for a second time via Odin
Once the device reboots after the 2nd flash, your CSC should have changed to the CSC of the ROM you downloaded, and Kies also should show that CSC has changed and it should allow future updates via Kies or OTA

It's unnecessary to do steps 7-10. You may check your new CSC in recovery mode after restoring the device.

I was thinking so too but that's exactly what helped me to change CSC on my i9295 (very common with i9505). After the first wipe I still had the old CSC (I checked in Kies though). After the full procedure I have proper CSC in Kies. Probably there is a easier way but this one works also.

You had to restart Kies, it would show the new CSC then.

Of course I restarted Kies. I think what I have not done is entering Recovery once the Odin flash is done. Entering Recovery gives the following: Applying Multi-CSC... Applied the CSC-code: XXX (my new CSC here). And I think here's where all the magic happens.

At least for me, my device goes in to "Recover Booting" after each Odin flash as well as a factory reset. I actually tried a a manual recovery boot via Vol Up + Home + Power after the factory reset in step 6, but it did not change my CSC, hence doing all steps is what worked for me all the time. I once skipped the Google login part after the factory reset and it didn't work that time either and had to do another factory reset, google login and another re-flash.
I wish there is an easier way, the reason I have been experimenting with different firmwares is to see if I can get LTE working natively, since phone does not show the LTE option under Mobile Networks. We have 2 operators offering LTE here in Sri Lanka but Samsung only sells the I9500 officially here which does not have LTE, so got down my I9505 from HK. So far I have had to use Viaero 4G Toggle app from the play store to enable LTE, while it works, enabling LTE this way is a huge battery drainer!
but is there a way to extract CSC from a particular firmware and flash only this?
I used to do it on my S3 by using the hidden.img and the cache.img but if I try in Odin on the S4 it fails (

How do I update to latest firmware through Odin? (Not the standard question)

Hi
As my country haven't gotten the latest update, I decided to download it through SamFirm (official firmware from Samsungs servers, just not capped in download speed like Sammobile).
But the thing is, that after decrypting, it's giving me 5 files and not just one .tar
The first 3 are named AP_xxx, BL_xxx and CP_xxx so it's pretty easy to guess where I should but them. But the last two files are named CSC_AUT and HOME_CSC_AUTO, so which should I use in the CSC slot?
Also, the UMS slot is greyed out, after putting one in the CSC slot and is stating that the firmware is only filling 65mb, even though it fills 1.8gb.
Anyone know what to do?
Thanks in advance
Hi,
Direct quote
"For some reason Samsung are now providing 5 files.
You now have some options:
1. If you want to keep your existing set up and just update, or reinstall existing firmware, you are better using SmartSwitch as described here:
http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29918
2. If you want to keep your existing set up, but want to install firmware with Odin, then use
BL - Bootloader
AP
CP
CSC_HOME
3. If you want to install another country firmware, or wipe your phone, then use
BL
AP
CP
CSC
CAUTION: This CSC contains a PIT file that will wipe your existing data and return your phone to 'out of the box' or will install another country/network firmware."
Cheers

Current BOOTLOADER + MODEM FILES FOR G900W8 (and others) available???

Hello.
I have been trying to track down the latest bootloader and modem for my device. I can not seem to find the specific files, only the fill 1.5GB STOCK firmware from SamMobile. Is there a way to pull those out of the OFFICIAL FIRMWARE, and make them flashable via odin?
SM-G900W8 - Android 5.1.1 - Build date Fri, 11 Sep 2015 - G900W8VLU1COI4
[FOUND] - SM-G900W8 - Android 5.0 - Build date Tue, 04 Aug 2015 - G900W8VLU1BOC2 [BOOTLOADER_G900W8_VLU1BOC2.tar & MODEM_G900W8_VLU1BOC2.tar]
[FOUND] - SM-G900W8 - Android 5.0 - Build date Tue, 10 Mar 2015 - G900W8VLU1BOC1 [G900W8-LP-VLU1BOC1-BOOTLOADER.tar & G900W8-LP-VLU1BOC1-MODEM.tar]
I can't seem to find the modem and bootloader on XDA anywhere for G900W8VLU1COI4 which is the latest for the phone -- I have the other 2 modem and bootloaders as flashable odin files -- is the ONLY way I can get up to the latest firmware (modem + bootloader) is by flashing the stock firmware file, then flash recovery, then root, then install a custom ROM? Which takes a ton of time over a simple flash of the 2 files I need?
Thank you
Same i have been looking for the exact same thing. ^

Glad I am not the only one, generally there are posts with this as firmware files come out. Myself I am not too sure how to extract these out of the official firmware file to make them flashable in odin
1. Press power , home and down button all together.
2. press continue
3. take your usb cable and plug it in to your phone
4. In odin you should under ID:COM it should be blue , seeing that the computer recognizes.
5. Take the G900W8VLU1BOC2 file and select AP on odin. MAKE SURE TO SELECT AP.
6. It will load and freeze the program for about couple of seconds do not panic.
7. Press start. It will do its thing and than viola!
You just flashed the G900W8VLU1BOC2 file. it should work and SM-G900W8 since it doesnt need and bootloader or MODEM . Its just how its built. Other models need it .

No that will flash the whole phone back to a stock un-rooted image file. That's not what I am looking for.
I am looking for the modem and bootloader files (tar) files to flash -- I don't want to flash stock ROM
And yes you can flash the bootloader and modem file independent, with any S5 variant -- that post you posted, was how to flash back to STOCK

Having found this thread and others with no sign of the latest files, I just grabbed them form the latest firmware and TARed them.
If anyone needs them, grab them here G900W8VLS1DPF3_G900W8OYA1DPF3_G900W8VLS1DPF3 (Modem file too large to attach to this post)
in case anyone wants to reproduce my steps themselves (with G900W8VLS1DPF3_G900W8OYA1DPF3_G900W8VLS1DPF3 or any subsequent one) here they are:
Download the full stock firmware file
Extract the .tar.md5 file (I am using 7zip for all extraction/compression as it supports all formats)
Open the .tar.md5 in 7zip
For modem: grab "modem.bin"
For bootloader: grab the following
aboot.mbn
rpm.mbn
sbl1.mbn
sdi.mbn
tz.mbn
Compress the file (or files) with 7zip using TAR compression (leave all settings alone, "store" compression level is what i used)
take the resulting tar file and flash using ODIN (BL for bootloader; CP for modem)

Firmware flashing - any CP files to be used with Odin available?

All the sources I tried only had four files in the zip: AP, BL, CSC, and HOME_CSC. Are there any firmware packages that also contain the CP file?
I ask this because it was my first time having to use four files when using Odin, and as Odin's "Tips" message was so kind to warn me that newer models needed the four files BL, AP, CP, and HOME_CSC, I selected all four files to use, substituting the CSC file for the CP slot. I'm fairly sure that's the reason my tablet now fails to boot and goes to the "Can't load Android system. Your data my be corrupt" screen.
Worst case, I can probably just factory reset, but there were still some unsaved data on my tablet so I'm really hoping I can fix the problem by flashing a correct CP file. Failing that, can someone point me to the guides/tools I need to save my tablet's user data to my PC from recovery?

Already tried. Same as others, no CP files. And apparently they no longer allow free members to download older firmware versions.
Edit: er, let me rephrase since I didn't read your post as thoroughly as I should have. I already tried the sammobile site; I didn't try the Frija software. That said, I'm fairly sure other sites host the same firmware update zips as I would probably pull from Frija (just with ads on their sites), and they didn't have the CP files I needed, so I guess official sources are out for getting a working CP file?
For the record, I never did find a CP file that can be flashed to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, but I did eventually manage to move past the corrupted OS screen by doing one or a combination of the following: flashing BL+AP+HOME_CSC, then flashing AP by itself, as well as trying to wipe the /cache partition from recovery sometimes.
