[GUIDE] [OREO 8.0] ROOT + TWRP + DRM Fix | AU KDDI SOV34 | 41.3.C.1.147 - Sony Xperia XZ Guides, News, & Discussion

NOTE :
I created this guide for the Sony Japan AU KDDI version of Xperia XZ Oreo 8.0 users and i have difficulty installing the global version and many that do not support such as NFC Japan are very different from global. Please report this text before you root SOV34 check your sim lock if (x) Network Subset [5] = this is a Carrier Restriction that only allows certain SIM cards. In Japan, CDMA are dominant networks. I think since this is a GSM network, they set a Network Subset lock to restrict exporting. If you already unlock your bootloader, then sim not detected again. So please check this sim lock from dial *#*#7378423#*#*. Forget about root if your Network Subset is locked.
Since there is no ftf file for XZ AU KDDI's, here is the guide from me for rooting it.
You need backup your TA.img. Downgrade your android to Marshmallow for FTF file you can find from this link [url]https://ftf.andro.plus/[/URL] you may use the version 39.0.C.0.282 and for guide step how to backup TA you can use this link [url]https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236[/URL].
Update your SOV34 to Oreo 8.0 via Xperia Companion (since no ftf for Oreo) and unlocked your bootloader. For Unlock booloader you can use Flashtool or from ADB. Make sure that the OEM Unlocking in Developer Option is ON
Make your phone plugin to pc to Fastboot Mode ( Power Up + Volume Up ) and go to ADB and flash Recovery.
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
you can download TWRP from my drive [url]https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IlisSeKaMhvCQkUddgyLOdDSg_988zvZ[/URL] and factory reset via TWRP[to eliminate the password entry during bootup]
Flash the created from me for boot.img using fastboot and restart to TWRP
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Flash instal Zip Magisk, DRM Fix and Safetynet Patch. ( Put this Zip in SD Card) you can find this zip in my drive [url]https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IlisSeKaMhvCQkUddgyLOdDSg_988zvZ[/URL]
All done.

Finally I could make this guide for Sony SOV34 a few months to learn the difference between this system and the global system. Actually, in a case that might have never happened for Sony Japan is to open the Unlock Bootloader because by default it always says: "Unlock Bootloader Allowed: NO". One day I read in a Forum and finally, I found a bright spot about this bootloader. And finally my phone bootloader is allowed yes. If you need ask about how to change this bootloader from Japan Smartphone just PM me.

[GUIDE] Unlock Bootloader, Root, Install TWRP & Decrypt

For an easy way to Unlock, Root & Decrypt your Mate 8 here are the steps you need to take. This has been requested by a number of you so here it goes:
1) Unlock your bootloader. There are three steps you can take. The first is free. The second method requires you to pay a few dollars but it works and is the fastest way. I would highly recommended this method. This is confirmed working on all models.
Option 1: Make a Huawei ID on your phone and stay signed in for 14 days and go then online to unlock your bootloader and it should work on the website.
https://uniportal.huawei.com/accounts/register.do?method=toRegister
Option 2: If you want to unlock your phone immediately and don't mind paying a few dollars this method works. Visit here:
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/buy
- Download the DC Unlocker Software
- On their site buy 4 credits. I used PayPal. It cost me around $4.38 USD.
- Follow the instructions in their tutorial. Choose "Read Bootloader Code" in DC-Unlocker to get your bootloader code. It was pretty easy.
- Put your phone in bootloader mode (plug into the computer and hold in power and volume down with the phone off) and download the Android tools from the link at the end of step two. Extract them to a folder on your desktop and open a command prompt to that folder and type in fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx where x is your bootloader unlock code the DC Unlocker program gave you.
2) Download the TWRP recovery of the EMUI version you are currently on (5.0 ,5.1, 6.0) from here:
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5I_q70mNuR4Vmo5LUUyU2t5TWs?usp=sharing
Then put your phone into Bootloader Mode (plug phone into computer and hold in power + vol down) and fastboot flash the TWRP recovery file you downloaded. Here are the Android tools you need to fastboot flash. Extract them to a folder and put the twrp recovery img file inside the folder as well and open up a command prompt to the folder and type in fastboot flash recovery TWRP-ENG-XXX.img (where XXX is the version of TWRP you downloaded) Then type in fastboot reboot. When your phone reboots shut it back down and then hold in volume up and power until it turns on and keep holding in volume up until the phone boots into TWRP recovery.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5I_q70mNuR4UzdkeERRZExnUVk/view?usp=sharing
3) Root your phone.
In TWRP flash SuperSU:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5I_q70mNuR4OWlXeTJuTjdoS0k/view?usp=sharing
After flashing you will be rooted and on TWRP successfully.
4) Decrypt your internal storage.
You must decrypt your internal storage so TWRP can see it or if you want to be able to flash a rom. If you're getting an unable to format data in TWRP then you know you need to do this. Boot into TWRP then go to Wipe then Advanced Wipe then Format Data and type in yes. This will wipe and decrypt your internal storage. BACK UP YOUR INTERNAL STORAGE before you do this if you have anything important on it. (Pics are at the bottom of this post) Then either flash one of my roms or decrypted boot.img to keep the internal storage decrypted. If you boot with the stock boot.img installed it will encrypt your internal storage again and you'll have to repeat the process.
*To take an ota or do the dload method you don't have to relock"

I made it two days ago and it works with mate8.
Does this now mean we are likely to see numerous custom roms & kernels being developed in the very near future for this awesome smartphone ?
i sure hope so especially since huawei seems to have publicized its kernel source for the mate 8 just recently in the end it depends on the interest of the devs, though, and the overall popularity of the mate 8! im staying optimistic that itll be better than with the mate 7

Say we do unlock BL and then root... Than I guess we cannot get OTA updates right? Also does the BL re-lock?

Help me to twrp/root/xposed/kernel my XC

Hi,
I'll received my XC this week, and I'd like to root it.
I don't want a custom ROM, but just a stock one with xposed and remove some bloatwares.
Here are my needs:
keep DRM
latest stock rom
twrp
untouched system partition
easy OTA
XC Genesis kernel
xposed + module
Do you think it possible to achieve such a configuration?
How-to?
Thanks
EDIT: I'll update this post to make it an HOW-To for futures users with same questions.
Assuming you're unable to unlock your BL the steps are as follows...
Flash back to 198.
Backup your TA.
Unlock your BL
Update to 311
Extract kernel - ftf/sin/elf
Run elf through Rootkernel_v5.23 - (In cmd prompt window - rootkernel kernel.elf boot.img)
Create DK ftf with Rootkernel_v5.23 (In cmd prompt window - flash_dk TA-19022017.img DK.ftf)
Flash new boot.img
Flash TWRP.img
Flash Super User zip
Flash DK.ftf with Flashtool 9.22
...and that should be it.
Latest stock Rom + xposed will not be possible...

OTA is not possible once bootloader is unlocked. System partition touched or not played no role.
ok.
So if I want root the XC, I have to unlock the bootloader, loose DRM and ota?
How is the camera quality without the drm keys?
Thanks

You HAVE to unlock. There is NO root on LOCKED bootloader.
Unlocking bootloader deletes TA partition, containing DRM keys. You should BACKUP your TA partition BEFORE unlocking using DirtyCow Backup tool from Sony Cross Devices forum.
After unlocking, you can either flash kernel that supports DRM patching either by using fake DRM libraries, or your real DRM keys, either flashed in alternative location (see RootKernel tool in Z5 forums, works on almost all modern Xperias) or PoC TA tool from Sony Cross devices, that mounts your TA backup as TA partition, therefore your phone looks as having DRM keys and locked.

How can we flash back to 198? Flashing doesnt require an unlocked BL, wich to be achieved deletes your TA?

Sure. You don't really need to learn about those stuff but is handy to know, you'll pick stuff up along the way. They are basically firmware files.

Open the flashtool and run Xperifirm (icon with XI) on it, then browse to the XC, then click on F5321 and it will load up the different regions and available firmware. If you click on "check all" it will then show which FW is available to download, Central Europe 5 still shows as 198, so you need to select it on the right of the screen under the picture of the phone, it will then download and it's simply a matter of following the instructions to flash it.

Thank you, i was able to successfully backup my TA earlier yesterday. But now im struggling with how to restore it in MM 6.0.1 (34.1.A.1.198).
I've read that i'll need a custom kernel for that (and to get TWRP+supersu+magisk+xposed) but im unsure if i should use Genesis (probably unsuported but the only one that says it'll restore MY TA) or Advanced Stock Kernel from Androplus. Ive read that messing with TA can hardbrick my phone so im trying to be extra careful.
atm im following ondrejvaroscak's quickrecap to make sure everything goes smooth with my TA keys and then i plan to downgrade to 6.0, install Advanced Stock Kernel, supersu 2.79 and magisk and then pray for the best (without reflashing my own DK.ftf?)

You can use the RootKernel tool to modify your own kernel, extract the kernel.sin from the ftf with a zip program, then use the flashtool to extract the kernel.elf, Tools-Sin Editor-Extract Data then run it through the RootKernel tool and flash the boot.img it creates, then flash TWRP separately to the recovery partition which will allow you then to flash SuperSU.
SuperSU and BusyBox are the only options I didn't include when creating my kernel. Others will have to help with the other two things you want as I refuse to use them.

Thanks again. I was worried that the drm-fix from the kernel editing tool could corrupt my TA partition but thankfully i was wrong on that .

I flashed a kernel I made with the Rootkernel tool without the drm fix but it showed some mumbo jumbo where it should say ok and provisioned, included the drm fix in the next one and it worked fine then.

Starting from the 7.1.2 ROMs most of the developers decided to follow the process of checking modem version at the time of flashing the rom. Many peoples ended up in
"Error 7- assert(xiaomi.verify_modem("MSM8976.LA.1.0.c3-30041-STD.PROD-1.77504.1.83742.1") == "1")"
The main reason for this is the outdated firmware or it is happened to those who had unofficially unlocked the bootloader.
Some more info..
1. You must be on MM build bootloader. If you are unofficially unlocked bootloader it will give you ERROR7.
@TheStrix have alreday given a short information about it in his Official LineageOS thread. If you are unaware of it read it here
2.Outdated Firmware.
Your firmware must be from from MIUI Global DEV v7.5.4 or above.
Get MIUI Global DEV v7.5.4 from here
or the latest firmware from here
NB:-
- Iam using the MIUI Global DEV v7.5.4 firmware. All working fine including Volte. I dont know about the second one,you can give it a try.
-If you are unofficially unlocked ,MIUI Global DEV v7.5.4 will re lock your bootloader you will end up in bootloop.
- I will not be reponsible for any damages.
Solution 1 [Permanent Solution] ..
1. So if you are unofficially unlocked, i will suggest to clean flash the latest MIUI Fatboot Rom. Kenzo users get it from here.
2.Flash it using MIFlashTool ,and officially unlock it.
HOW TO UNLOCK THE BOOTLOADER OF REDMI NOTE 3?
PART 1 : REQUESTING FOR UNLOCK PERMISSION
Step 1 – Open up your favorite web browser in your computer (Chrome is recommended) then go to this link
Step 2 – You’ll see the official page of “Unlock Your Mi Device”. Now simply click on the blue “Unlock Now” Button in the middle of the page.
Step 3 – You’ll see a login page in the next page which is in Chinese. If you use Google Chrome to open the page, then you can simply use its built-in Google Translate feature.
Step 4 – Once logged in, you’ll see the Unlock Application Permissions page. Now simply fill in all required fields then click on that green Apply Immediately button.
Step 5 – In the next page, you’ll need to enter a verification code sent to you via SMS. Check your phone for any SMS verification sent by Xiaomi server. The code is usually valid for only 5 minutes so you need to enter it immediately.
Step 6– Once you have submitted the 6 digits code, you’ll then be redirected to another page saying that from the point toward all you need to do is just waiting for Xiaomi Developers to review and approve your application. Once approved, you’ll get another SMS which normally arrives in 15 min(Atleast for me. For some it may take time). The approval process is manual so just be patient on this.
PART 2 : BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING PROCESS
Requirements for Bootloader Unlocking :
-An active Mi account linked to your device, your phone number and it has permission to proceed with bootloader unlock (follow previous steps above)
-Please backup your data for just in case scenario.
-Again, if you are not fully aware of flashing custom ROM, then you better stay away of unlocking your phone’s bootloader.
Download Mi Flash Unlock tool for Windows here, and install it on your computer / PC.
Step 1 – On your device, please login to your Mi account.
Step 2 – Put / reboot your device into bootloader mode. To do that, simply turn off your device, press the Power button and Volume down ( – ) button at the same time.
Step 3 – On your computer, open MiFlash Unlock tool you’ve just installed. Click on the Agree button when asked.
Step 4 – Login to MiFlash Unlock tool with the same Mi Account.
Step 5 – Now connect your phone to computer using its USB cable.
Step 6 – Once your phone is connected, the Unlock button will become active. Next, simply click on the Unlock button to start the process. The unlock process will take about 10 – 15 seconds to complete. That’s all.
After unlocking your phone’s bootloader, you’ll be able to flash TWRP and other custom ROM. Enjoy..
Please take these as your concern upon unlocking bootloader :
One Mi account could only unlock one device within 30 days.
If you see a notice saying that “current user is not logged in connected device” then please reboot your device normally then login with your account in the device (see Step 1).
Unlocking bootloader will wipe all user data especially if your device is encrypted. That’s why you’ll need to create backup before going to proceed.
Neither Xiaomi or I will guaranteed if anything goes wrong during and as the result of unlocking. Proceed with your own risks.
Also, unlocked Xiaomi devices will be marked in the official service end.
PART 3 : Installing TWRP and Custom Rom.
Step 1 –. Get latest TWRP from here. Flash it via fastboot { I will not be explaining that in details}
Step 2 –. Take back up of EFS using Twrp. Wipe Everything including internal storage.
Step 3 –. Install Firmware-Rom-Gapps in order. Error 7 will be solved
Solution 2[Temporary Solution] ..
Only try this method if you are not able to officially unlock your device . Dont use the Firmware by Strix. It will relock your bootloader.
Step1 - Downalod the rom to your pc.
Step2 - Use any notepad. Suggestd one Notepad++. Get it from here
Step3 - Open the Rom.zip{dont extarct}. Navigate to META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script.
Double click on updater-script and open it with notepad++. Edit and remove this line from the file
Code:
assert(xiaomi.verify_modem("MSM8976.LA.1.0.c3-30041-STD.PROD-1.77504.1.83742.1") == "1")
Allow the file to save and close the zip.{Rom will recompress by itself}.
Step4 - Flash in order. Firmware -Rom-Gapps.
Some FAQ's ..
1. Iam not getting volte
Ans:- Restore the EFS. Try rebooting your phone 2 or 3 times. After Clean flash ,I had to reboot 3 times to get volte working. :fingers-crossed:
2.Iam not able to see FingerPrint Option?
Ans:- Your are defenitely on an old Firmware.Update to Latest Firmware It will work.
3.Iam getting Some other Errors. :crying:
Ans:- Post your Screen Shot Below. Will Check.
4.Iam getting some other problems in ROM.
Ans:- Report it with proper logs to the developer.Iam helpless.
5.I bricked my device
Ans:- I will Laugh at you. Always do everything at your own risk. :silly:
Some Advices ..
* At least use search once in your life time. From my observation its clear that no one ever uses search in the Rom Section. Even is there is a solution in every page you keep on asking same questions.
*Dont flood the thread.
*Dont qoute the whole op.
*Respect other members
If this was of help to anyone hit the like :fingers-crossed:

There's a problem with not updating the bootloader (aboot) and staying with a LP bootloader, you will most likely encounter bootloops. Say you edit that code line for the modem check, it will flash but it won't boot/work properly. You must update the bootloader in order to boot newer ROMs. And you need to update the modem and other stuff so you won't face issues. You need to offcially unlock no matter what you do, it's very easy.

you must format your phone (not wipe) using twrp then install fw-rom-gapps...use fw by strix from above method(permanent)
I flashed v8.5.1.0 using MiFlash and it said flash completed successfully. However now it is stuck on the Mi splash screen with "powered by android" logo at the bottom. The dots are moving so I assume it is loading but it's been on that same screen for the past 10 minutes now.
Previously, the bootloader was officially unlocked but some stuff broke as I tried to upgrade to a new ROM and that's why I decided to flash v8.5.1.0 in order to go back to stock and start from scratch.
Edit: It works!

I'm on Marshmallow boot loader (flashed faatboot ROM) and officially unlocked & formated data.
Yesterday I did a update RR ROM (9th july) then I got error 7.
at the time of flashing I was on latest firmware 7.7.6.
So reflashed 7.5.4 firmware and it's worked.
So we should always stick to 7.5.4 firmware ? For avoiding error 7?

yep..in my knowledge the latest firmware has a change in modem version(updated version) so it wont match with one in updater script... so i will say to stick with some older firmware unless the developers chabge it in the roms update-script file...
iam using strix fw 7.6.15

In theory it should work I guess? Assuming you used the guide from @khajiit here you should have a MarshMellow bootloader, as the MIUI version linked there is based on MM (kate_global_images_6.11.3_20161103.0000.00_6.0_global_16db0fc5fa), so it shouldn't relock. Can't try myself since I unlocked mine recently.

New!! [MTK-SU temp root] TA Backup BEFORE Unlocking your bootloader. MTK SoC Only!!

This works for MediaTek SoC ONLY!! XA XA1 and variants of C4/5's, M5's, L1, L2 and Maybe even L3's
Update: A Bootless/System only Root is now reported as working again thanks to diplomatic.
Can XA1 users who have benefited from mtk-su and the System only Root please report back their experience here also so other XA1 users will know what to expect.
Thanks to dev @diplomatic All Sony Mediatek devices should now be able to obtain a /ta partition backup before unlocking their bootloader. :victory:
It works by getting temporary "root" with a easy to use method which will then allow you to grab a /ta backup via the dd cmd
I did some testing for diplomatic and I can confirm this works with my locked bootloader XA1 on Android 8.0 lesser versions should also work.
I also tested this on my other Mediatek devices with the same successful results upto and including Android 8.1
Please visit diplomatic's Thread HERE for instructions and details also remember to Hit his Thanks Button or the :good: Thumbs Up Button if your using a phone app.
How do I backup the /ta ???
See this here.
Use MTK-SU to get temp root then use my dd backup helper script
Thread is HERE for instructions and info
https://github.com/bigrammy/dd-backup-helper-script/blob/master/dd-backup.sh
I am new to Sony whats all this stuff mean???
The below will help anyone new to Sony Gain a little insight into the slight differences over stock Android.
So take time to read it
New to Sony then read the info HERE it will save you a lot of head scratching and google time and I created the thread for just such as you. :good:
As a Footnote for the over enthusiastic:
You only need dd backup what is specific to your device so everything that is NOT included in the FlashTool/Xperifirm firmwares. Like the /TA, /Protect_f, /Protect_s, to name a few for example.
Backing up stock boot or fotakernel is kinda pointless because these are contained in the XperiFirm/FlashTool firmwares and can be easily restored using FlashTool or xflasher to flash those Stock ROM parts.
This is all a little over my head, to be honest. But it looks like I won't be able to install TWRP unless I unlock my bootloader if I'm reading this right?
My phone's bootloader can't be unlocked so that'll be a real shame if that's so.

Hmm My XA1 is with a relative just now so can't check but we used to have this problem on the C4 and C5.
I just Ignored that and tried the unlock code anyway. It worked for me on the C4 and XA but but not tested it on the XA1 so no guarantee's.
The other option is to use xflasher which worked for me on my XA1 (BL Locked) and flash only the system, boot, recovery, oem and userdata of the earliest 7.0 you can get your hands on and see if it boots. :fingers-crossed: It may even work for the preloader lk etc but I did not want to risk bricking the XA1 so never tried to flash those sensitive area's
If it does let you flash a earlier version then just wait for the ota and install it. The OTA will flash the perloader and lk of the next 7.x update and hopefully that will allow you to unlock the BL unless your phone is locked to specific carrier then I am unsure about that.
Again this is the method used on the C4/5 for rolling back to 5.0 so we could unlock the bootloader.

Interesting. I might try the unlock code just to see what it does. I think Vodafone may have locked my phone, which is understandable but annoying.
I can't afford a new handset and all my old ones are either broken or so underpowered that they're pretty useless, so I won't try flashing anything right now. Too risky.

Hmm I thought they could only really sim lock the device but maybe that's why your not been shown the Option to unlock the bootloader.
If you have the sim lock removed by fair or fowl means then the unlock option may become available to you. I have flashed full Vodafone Virgin O2 ROM's with FlashTool before now and none ever locked the bootloader I have only ever heard of people having problems who accidentally flash the sim.lock part of the firmware. :silly:
PS: I have used these before for sim unlocking and all was ok. HERE also cheaper than most.

Awesome work all round and yes you are correct it may even warrant a thread of its own since itś not limited to MTK devices.
On a side note.
Safestrap recovery would be the next logical thing for the XA1 then the locked bootloader circle should be complete.
It will be like running the Fire Phone again
https://github.com/bigrammy/android_bootable_recovery-safestrap
Yeah, you're right, I'll make a new thread eventually. Just wanted to start slow and see where it goes...
Unfortunately, safestrap recovery will be problematic because this method doesn't let you write to /system or boot. It doesn't do anything about dm-verity and all that.

I need to get around to unpacking the boot of the XA1 and look at the lk too. If they moved the fstab to system/vendor then there maybe a way.
My thoughts are as yet untested and based off vague memories but if I manage to put them all together I will let you know.
Real busy just now with Work and ongoing home improvements so not got much time for playing

Yes for sure but you need to be officially bootloader unlocked for that.
You use the mtk-su to gain temp root then make a couple of dd backups of your /ta and any other partition you think maybe useful which is basically
anything not contained in a firmware package using FlashTool/Xperifirm
EG:
ta
nvram
nvdata
protect_f
protect_s
When you have what you need Unlock the bootloader officially.
Convert your boot.elf to boot.img have Magisk patch the new boot.img and flash it via fastboot.
If you need more detail please provide more such as your device etc it make helping easier. :good:

Hi
If you want to unlock bootloader, you have to:
- downgrade to the first version of Android provided by Huawei
- root it with one of the dozens of one-click-root tools (personally I use Kingroot)
- do what mentioned here https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8lite/general/alternative-method-unlocking-bootloader-t3799294

Only for dual SIM:
- download these two packages http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=79348&version=317012&siteCode=it and https://docs.google.com/uc?id=0B7aKdgGvGVwrRHBaNVo4VHdDVk0&export=download
- put JUST THE FIRST LINK's unpacked "update.app" file inside your phone's folder "dload" (if you don't have one, create it)
- shut down the phone
- boot up the phone by keeping pressed all the buttons (Power + volume up + volume down)
- wait until the process ends
- then delete the "update.app" from your phone and replace it in the same "dload" folder with the "update.app" file from the SECOND link unpacked folder
- shut down and then boot up the phone with all buttons pressed

No, they're official update packages.
Most important thing: you don't have to have TWRP installed (just stock recovery)

Hi
first of all, is your bootloader LOCKED? Do you have stock recovery (=no TWRP)? (I know you are trying to get unlock code, but maybe you had brick problems and lost code)
If yes, try firstly the easiest things:
Delete update.app
Delete dload folder
Reboot
Connect phone to PC
Download again with your PC the first zip and extract it (in your PC), and then copy the dload folder in your phone
Try again
If it still doesn't work, let me know
My P8 lite has locked bootloader (technically it's my mother's phone, I want to flash it with custom rom coz it's really slow and unusable on it's stock rom). Do the bootloader was never unlocked, I do not have a code to unlock it.
What's steps should I undertake to flash it successfully?
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Root
3. Flash twrp

2. Root
3. Flash twrp
4. Flash rom

You have to downgrade it first to Android 5
Root it with Kingroot
In your PC, install this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979 if you don't have access to ADB commands
Do then what mentioned here (after connecting your phone to your PC and enabling "USB debug" inside developer options in your P8 lite) https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8...ve-method-unlocking-bootloader-t3799294/page1
Unlock bootloader with the code you got from the above step (just follow what written in the link)
Flash TWRP
(If you want, flash custom ROM or updated stock ROM)
(If you did it, boot the ROM and then reboot to TWRP)
Flash magisk (the safest way to get root)

For some reason I cannot proceed with rollback flashing. Even after deleting dload folder, downloading fresh file, rebooting the phone. Still stuck on 8%.

Hi
If you go to system information inside settings, what do you see as "Android version"?

Hi
"Rollback" (or downgrade) is the contrary of update. So, when I said "rollback to Android 5" I meant "downgrade from Android 6 to Android 5"
You can't downgrade because you HAVE Android 5, so you have just to BACKUP EVERYTHING (because unlocking bootloader you erase all data) and follow the step-by-step guide I have written above, skipping the "rollback" step :highfive:
Less things to do :good:

That's what I thought as well but I cannot get through the first step witch is rooting by kingroot. I'm just getting an information that kingroot wasn't able to root my device.

Hi
Enable usb debugging inside developer options, then try again until it works (cause it works).
If it still doesn't work, download Kingroot for pc and connect phone to it.
Else, try with other one-click-root tools (as Kingoroot, there is not much imagination for names  )
Done the root, the procedure is much easier.
