Help setting up the Asus Zenfone Max - Asus Zenfone Max Questions & Answers

Hello,
I've been running Bootleggers on a Moto G4 Plus, Athene and it's doing alright.
I got a Zenfone Max on me now and would like to root and install a ROM. The stock rom is bloated with apps and makes it laggy.
I looked up in the forum and most of them I looked at ended with the comment that the OP had stopped development for this device.
Can I please know what ROM still works well as a daily driver that is based on Pie for the Zenfone Max?
And if it's possible to install Magisk as my Manager?
Thank You very much. Appreciate the help.

Due to poor vendor from ASUS, all GSI methods are giving bootloop problem when trying to flash Q GSI
we'll have to wait. asus has a good hardware, but it's very poor at giving support on software.
I have found a method by searching google. In this site they clearly mentioned max pro m2 is working. Anyone pls test this method and give a suggestion.

I've been looking for one for a long time. I have yet to find anyone that has anything. Personally I would love it if someone made a LineageOS ROM for this tablet but the links I've found to 17.1 are all dead links. It would be great if anyone would reply to to this.
Looking also, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery and rooted. Next step?
It's too bad there is no custom ROM for this tablet.
How do we get devs to work on this tablet again?
Hello,
I search for an update for the ZenPad 3s 10 and now I found something on the tweakdroid-website:
How to Upgrade Asus ZenPad 3S 10 (Z500M) P027 to Android 12 - Download & Install Android 12 - TweakDroid
tweakdroid.com
I´m not sure if this is a fake Web-site or if this is a solution to bring the device to an newer Android version.
Update:
... sorry - it seem´s to be a fake - I should use the search function on this forum ;-)
Kind regards
Steinello
Hello, is there any news abaut custom ROMs?
I'm currently trying to figure out how to port LineageOS to Z500M, but it's rather difficult with a lack of a device tree and my lack of experience.

Asus ZenFone Max M1 Super Slow with LineageOS 19.1

Hi,
After upgrading from LineageOS 18.1 to 19.1, my phone (X00TD, 32GB storage, 3GB RAM) became super slow. Previously, with 18.1, things were great. It was a delight that I had finally learned how to install a custom ROM on my phone. Now I have to wait, wait, wait, for apps to open. I've re-installed with different nightlies a couple times. And of course closed apps not in use and cleared caches to no avail. If anyone has any thoughts on how to resolve this problem before I buy a different phone, it would be much appreciated.
Hello, Your phone maybe can't handle that custom Rom.
Downgrade to 18.1 if you want.
Anyway, where y'got that lineage 19.1?
It is official/for Asus Zenfone Max M1?
thanks_
