Will the K20\Mi 9T get android 10? - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

So since xiaomi released android Q for the K20 pro will the normal k20 be getting it as well?

Yes

Yes but not sure when or when for 9T in particular,k20 will get it faster

Apparently next month. From a Spanish site, they contacted xiaomi Spain and got the info. https://elandroidelibre.elespanol.c...ctualizara-a-android-10-el-mes-que-viene.html

Next month . Saw it in an article

What's that supposed to mean? The Mi 9T is just a US and EU standard-compliant version of the Redmi K20. Besides that, they use exactly the same software and have identical hardware apart from the branding and that the Mi 9T has extra network bands. Any software that will work for the K20 will otherwise work for the 9T. In other words, they'll get the update together.

Yes they are same hardware but a business like Xiaomi has different markets and different divisions, just because they release software for K20 in India or China,it does not mean it will be released at the same time for the Mi 9T in Europe and the US

My mistake. I was thinking about the Xiaomi.eu custom ROMs. They have a single release for both HMK20 and MI9T
But still, it's not all Redmi K20s first, and then Mi 9Ts next, but all Chinese Redmi K20s first, then Global K20s and Mi 9Ts next.

rn7 vs mi 8 lite

I have about 250 dollars right now so I can buy either the Redmi Note 7 or the Mi 8 Lite, what do you guys suggest I purchase?
I'm looking to install twrp on the device and flash a custom firmware
Well, both phones are great quality. The Redmi Note 7 has a bigger battery but the Mi 8 Lite feels more premium to the hand (at least that's what I've heard).
Anyway, If you want to install a Custom ROM and don't want to wait for them to be developed, buy the Mi 8 Lite, the forums have a bigger base and more variety of ROMs. If you don't mind waiting, the Redmi Note 7 is totally a good choice.

I agree. I have the RN7 it's a great phone but if u want roms all u can choose from for now is Xiaomi.EU CN and global MIUI roms. Hopefully this changes in the future but the battery life is phenomenal. Trust me on that. Also it seemed to have better signal in the US than my Samsung S9+ I think its cos the software shows u LTE instead of 4G but I dunno, it works that's all that matters

Oh you're using the RN7 in the USA?
I live there too and I was reluctant to purchase this phone because it doesn't have bands 2, 4 or 12 that T-Mobile uses.
What carrier are you using and do you remember what website you purchased the phone off of?
Thanks a lot!

Got it off aliexpress. Mi store. I use Cricket on it so I'm throttled to 3MBs. It worked easily and happily. Honestly for tmobile, I would advise against it except u want to stick to H+ AWS

5G

Is it possible to purchase the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G SIM free ? If so, from where ? I have searched the Internet and cannot find

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G on T-Mobile and unlock 5G bands if possible...

Hi I am interested in buying the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g mainly because T-Mobile is going live with 5g where I live on Decemeber 6th 2019. But from what I know the this phone doesn't support the 5g bands for T-Mobile.
I heard that there is a way to unlock those bands on Qualcomm devices and this phone uses the Snapdragon SOC.
Can this be done?

So the bands for 5g that tmobile supports is not dependent on just the processor, its also dependent on what the manufacturer decides on. As with all phones, you need to see what is the most compatible cell phone provider for that phone. If the mi mix 3 does not support tmobile bands, there's no way to force it to.

Correct. I've had a discussion on a Mi Mix 3 5g thread where this guy says it's a update thing not a hardware thing. Which I feel he's clearly wrong. Cell bands have nothing to do with updates, it's a hardware thing.
Dear slimegpod,
The frequency is supported in hardware but we did trials and only the Vodafone and global rom version has the Vodafone de 5g Network activated.
So I am on eu rom and cannot use Vodafone de 5g only Telekom and I am planning to switch ROMs but waiting for a moment to unlock since I will lose all my data.

Yes but I'm in the States and no carrier supports the Mix 3 5g. What other ROMs are you waiting for to install?
Carrier Support Not needed for mi mix 3 5g
Dear slimegood,
I called my carrier and the result was that they communicated the values to connect to the 5g network to Xiaomi and they need to add it to their firmware. The problem being that some variants of the firmware have not picked up the configuration options.

Any luck? The phone does not support 5G out of the box. According to manufacturers website, "5G function will be available via OTA update. Update times depend on your specific carrier and network."
Let us know if you find a way to do it without the OTA update.

There should be a option under network settings. I it seems the development for this device is crap though (as far as the updates are concerned). It sucks it's on MIUI v10 which I understand why but they still should've had this figured out before releasing it.
Thanks.
Well thanks for the feedback, if the firmware gets released somebody let me know. I really like the phone, but compatibility with USA 5g is really important to me.
i dont think it will ever get 5g support in the states - it uses a different 5g tech than what the us telecoms are proceeding with as far as i was told.
Stating that - i use it on t-mobile and i get great 4g in most places.

I'm looking at this phone on eBay & would like to know if anyone knows if this phone has wifi calling capability?
Also, is this a single or dual sim phone?
On Lineage 20 I have WiFi calling and VoLTE
Also it's 2 SIMs

Always look for the specs on GSMArena:
Xiaomi Mi 9T - Full phone specifications
www.gsmarena.com
As it says, it is dual SIM
And yes, I had Mi 9T and used the phone with two SIMs.
I remember that Wifi calling was in the menu but I never used it (did not have subscription for)
Btw, WiFi calling is part of the ROM. If you go for a custom ROM, it may not be supported there
Also, make sure you're really thinking about Mi 9T aka Redmi K20.
Do not mistaken with Redmi 9T that is a totally different phone (newer, bigger, different shape, different hardware, etc).
In that case post your question to a different subforum on XDA and find a different specs for that phone on GSMArena.
You can also compare the specs (with pictures) for two two or three phones on GSMArena

I was there & yes GSMArena said dual sim, but I was seeing conflicting info elsewhere---so I asked people that would know.
Thank You for the WiFi Calling info...I really need it where I live.

Perfect!!!! I do like using Lineage--have used it on several phones in the past.
OK...I now see that I was posting in the wrong forum.... came from HTC then LG phones & now I see that there is a number of phones with "almost" the same naming.....I now have the correct forum bookmarked.
Thank You all for your time.
