It's official! :highfive: https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/9449293
"While Dual SIM Dual Standby (DSDS) was briefly available on the Pixel 3 during the Android Q Beta, Google ultimately removed the functionality. The feature is now official with Android 10, but only on the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL." https://www.9to5google.com/2019/09/03/pixel-3a-dsds-android-10/

Anyone have luck trying this for themselves yet? I've been dying to pickup a pixel for years but needed dual sim. If this works as expected, I'd love to get myself a pixel. Does it matter which model you get? I know the Verizon model does not support esim. What about the T-Mobile, or Sprint variants?

Lots of stories out there. Just get a Google branded model. Same basic price. 3a IMEI starts with 99. Golden.

Works for me with Optus (Australia) e-sim and a Vodafone UK Sim while travelling. I've also noticed that there is now options to allow data for calling (presumably for VoLTE/VoWiFI) and MMS on the standby (non-data) Sim. Not being able to send or receive an MMS on the backup Sim was frustrating on beta 6.

I never did the beta on my 3a but when I upgraded to 10 there was also an eSim manager update. So I'm not sure whether it was the release version or the eSim manager that gave all these options. It does allow VoLTE on my Verizon network and data for MMS messages even when mobile data is off on my Fi network. Also there is an option to use data during calls when my default data is Verizon. So if I get a call on Fi data is usually off because VZW is my default. This will allow Fi data during the call. Very slick. Might be time to sell my P3. lol

Rethinking this. I think "allow data during call" is not to do with VoLTE but rather it's because only 1 Sim can be "in use" at once. If you didn't allow data during calls on the standby Sim (the non data one) you would not be able to use data while that standby Sim is in use (or on a call).
The only thing I miss is a failover data function, where if there is no LTE coverage on the primary aim, the second Sim (with coverage) could be used.

Under the Verizon network settings there is an option under "advanced" that allows VoLTE or not. "Use LTE services to improve voice and other comm" So perhaps it's because Vzw has that option available that there is a menu option there. Fi network settings don't have that but merely the "allow data during call". Vzw doesn't have that menu item. So if your carrier provides VoLTE then that would be the recommended option no matter which network was default.
I'm not sure how a failover would work. What if there is just a temporary outage due to conditions such as tunnels or spotty terrain? Then your phone would flip over to the other network without input and when service comes back then what? I suppose they could give you an option and perhaps in the future they will if they can make the switch seamless. As it stands it's either one or the other but not a difficult manual switch. I wonder how many would want an auto switch because of data charges on different networks that are used. I wouldn't use it but I can certainly see others might want it.

Can someone post a few screenshots of how it looks on Android10?

Does not work for me. I get prompted to restart for dual sim, but when i do press it the phone does not restart. I am still only able to swap between SIM and ESIM. My pixel 3a from t-mobile still shows only 1 IMEI.

Unfortunately it sounds like you got a Verizon type version. See if you can return it.

I didn't have the 'add esim' option on my pixel 3a running latest official Android 10 stock rom. After asking google support about it they told me I had to check with my provider, which i did (Orange France).
Then Orange support told me that this was only possible with Iphones right now... Doh.
Welcome to France where only iphones exists
#edit: i've created a feature request for esim on Orange support forum here:
https://communaute.sosh.fr/t5/Ma-li...-option-Esim-pour-les-téléphones/td-p/2418650
If you also are a french user of the Pixel 3a using orange provider i suggest you answer to the above topic to push the request even more

For those who couldn't enable DSDS in phone info (*#*#4636#*#*) and have non-verizon/non-Japan version, you need to have root and enter the following code in terminal emulator (use root by entering su first):
setprop persist.vendor.radio.multisim_switch_support true
Then reboot and enable DSDS in phone information (*#*#4636#*#*).

Yes that is what I have done. But I was under the impression that all Pixel 3a with android 10 should have DSDS support. But if my T-MOBILE pixel 3a was a Verison, I think I was duped.

See the post above. The t-mobile version is the same as Google unlocked version after unlock. Because you have T-Mobile sim card inside, it is applying t-mobile carrier setting and blocking DSDS from turning on. In Android 10, carriers have more control on sim card configuration.
I guess if you update to Android 10 without t-mobile sim card inside, you could be able to enable DSDS without root.

It should be. My pixel 3a model is g020g.
My box does show only 1 IMEI number. And my phone is unlocked. So I am very confused at this point and T-mobile doesn't know how to help when I explain everything clearly. I currently use unlocked bootloader and have root to access DSDS.
Does anybody else have this similar problem with T-Mobile Pixel 3a?

Android 10 on t-mobile pixel 3a has the capability to support for DSDS but T-Mobile is not supporting DSDS on the pixel 3a, at least officially. Officially T-Mobile is not even supporting the e-sim on pixel 3a but there is a loophole that people can just provide the EID to activate on the e-sim like a ECCID on a physical sim.
That's the reason why you only see one IMEI on the box. It's because of the carrier, not the device.
I am able to see two imei's after enabling DSDS on my t-mobile 3a.

My mistake, sorry. I just checked my boxes and the Pixel 3 from Verizon only has one IMEI and a Sim ID. The Pixel 3 from Google has one IMEI but an eSim ID not a Sim ID. The 3a from Google is identical to the Pixel 3 from Google.
Now here is the thing that I noticed different on the Verizon version vs. the Google version on both the Pixel 3 and 3a. When initializing from a factory reset or beginning setup the Google versions ask if you have an eSim then please use it now either with an account or with a scan code. The Verizon version does not even ask. So bottom line, if you have an eSim ID on the box then you can use the eSim. But... here's the rub. You can only use eSim if your carrier allows it. So for Orange they only support eSim for the iPhone. Verzion is exactly the same. If you have another carrier that will allow eSim use then you should be able to use it on that carrier with TMobile as the physical sim. That is what I do with my 3a. I have Google Fi as the eSim and Verizon as the physical sim.
So I started out with Fi on the eSim. Then after configuring the device I went to network setting and (now this I'm not 100% on the method but the result is correct) then I clicked on the + for adding a network. It then asked me to put in the physical sim which I did. (Verizon sim) then it rebooted and the eSim manager came up asking me which network I wanted for data, phone calls and whether to ask every time or use a default, things like that. There are a bunch of options to choose from but you will then have two networks on the device. Hope this helps and clears up my previous incorrect post.

On a 3a you do not need an unlocked bootloader or root access to access the eSim. On the Pixel 3 during some of the beta phases you did but that has been removed and even with root access on Android 10 it's a no go for DSDS. DS-Single active still works on the Google version or perhaps other versions as well. It will not work on Verizon under any circumstances as of yet.

[Q] International travel questions

Hey guys,
I tried searching on the topic but I'm hoping for more information specific to this phone.
I'm traveling to Germany in September. This will be my first time out of the country. I just called Sprint and requested for the phone to be unlocked for international travel. Since I've had the GS4 less than 90 days, I'm told this process will take a few days.
My questions are:
Now that my phone is unlocked, I can use international/locally bought micro-SIM cards, correct?
If I use these SIMs, will I still be subject to Sprint's high usage billing or will it operate entirely independently of Sprint's service?
If I flash a ROM, should I stick to the TW-based variants to ensure international capability? Or is it safer to leave the phone entirely stock until my trip is over?
If you have any tips and tricks for traveling (best SIM card, how to save money, the ROM you used while traveling, best apps for using minimal data, etc.) please do so! I appreciate your advice, everybody.
Thanks

If you lucky and your unlocking will go through without issues that some of us here are having then you should be able to use any non-US sim cards while outside the US. You will be subject to those carriers charges only. Just don't forget to turn off CDMA roaming and switch the phone to GMS/UMTS mode.
I cannot comment on the ROMs though.
I'm currently delpoyed with the military. Had my gs4 remotely unlocked and I now use a rebelphone sim card for my local area. Just turn your phone to gsm and I turn off data because its not included in my rebel phone package. Should be all good to go once u get that done.
Oh and I use blue kabans ROM

Is it possible to use a US sim card from another carrier in the US to check that the phone has successfully been unlocked before traveling? Sprint's told me that they unlocked my phone, but I want to be absolutely sure before I step on a plane in two weeks. I also have an update procedure to unlock the phone - I'd like to do that here in the US before I leave so that if there's any problem, I can work them in advance.
Thanks for moving Kenny!
Kate, from what I've been reading, under no circumstances will Sprint allow the phone to connect to a US GSM network using a T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card. I think this is analogous to "unlocking" the phone from its carrier, which carriers do not tolerate.
Buck, I will look at rebel phone among others. It seems data will be expensive, no matter what SIM card I choose. I expect things like Facebook updates and photo uploads should wait until I connect to wireless at hostels or my friend's place.

I'm in the same boat as you are, from what I could gather from forums and Sprint itself, the answer is NO, you cannot verify that you phone was unlock while here in the US with _ANY_ SIM card.

Yes, that's correct.
And does the phone need to be rooted? It sounds like maybe not for voice, probably for data? I will want both when we go to Spain in a few months. I don't have the phone yet but plan to pick one up this week - love my S3 but I can't use it internationally, and I don't think I can go back to my Photon for the trip.

People report issues with data but according to sprint once it is unlocked it should work just fine both gsm voice and data, no rooting should be needed.
You can verify your UICC(sim) slot is unlocked by sticking in any "non-Sprint" sim card... if you get an error saying "Invalid Sim" then it's not unlocked... if you see no error.. you are probably unlocked. You can further verify this by going into About Device > Status and seeing if it's reading the ICCID of your new sim card.
You can test this with domestic sims too(ATT/Tmo etc).. though you will not get service due to Samsung blocking them. But yes.. the phone will read the ATT/Tmo ICCID if unlocked.

Hi,
I got my sprint s4 unlocked by sprint for international use. I've got a europe orange sim, and when I put it in the phone, I don't get any error msg. (BTW, when I leave the phone without any sim card, it shows some small icon on top saying I'm missing a sim, also it won't let me go into network settings..) is it how it's suppose to be when Sprint unlock the phone for 3rd party sim (international) card? meaning If the phone was "unlocked" i would have get some error msg. saying the device "Can't access" the sim card etc.?
Thanks!

The error message would be the same small icon but it would just say "Invalid SIM", but this is just on my phone that was supposedly unlocked by Sprint, I cannot confirm that it actually works with non US SIM card since I haven't had a chance yet to travel outside the US. Your phone can be unlocked as well or not, you, unfortunately, have no way of telling this until you travel outside the US and try it.

Alright, If it says invalid sim after you put international card in it's definitely not unlocked. Me and me friend got the phone on the same day and called sprint about 100 time to get the phones working. After sprint told me and my buddy that phones are unlocked, we put it German sim card in and it said invalid sim, but sprint said it will change when you go to Germany. So i didn't believe them and called them another 100 times till about mid June I talked to some supervisor and she said that phone is unlocked. So I put it my German sim back in and it sent me an SMS about the rates of that German service in USA. After that my friend called those assholes another 100 times and they assured him that it will definitely work even though it says invalid SIM. Long story shor... we get there and he is screwed for 3 weeks. Even more so, he was willing to pay $10 per minute to roam in Germany with Sprint... NO SIGNAL ANYWHERE... AND my data did not work with different sim card. only calls and sms. Later i found out that it could be fixed by going to a local branch and downloading something but it was too late. SO Sprint sucks.
Here's the email I got upon requesting the unlock:
Hello Torrance,
This email is intended to confirm that Sprint has successfully processed the unlock request for your Samsung Galaxy s4 Device.* In order for the unlock to be completed, the device has to be connected to the CDMA Network or Wi-Fi connection for the update to finalize.
*Once the update has been completed, please follow the steps below to unlock the device after you have the third party SIM:
*Turn off device > Insert 3rd party SIM > go to Settings > More (tab) > System Update > UICC unlock.* You will receive the update and it should change to GSM Mode.* *
*Phone number: XXX-XXX-XXXX
*If you have any additional questions comments or concerns please contact Sprint World Wide care 24/7 at 888-226-7212
*Thank you,

Sprint doesnt know what theyre talking about half the time. that is incorrect info.
no matter what sim you put in... if its PROPERLY unlocked... then you wont see a "invalid sim error". even att/tmobile.
if you put a sim in and it says "invalid sim" then the OTA sim unlock was not properly done and despite saying unlocked in sprints system.. it's really not.
I have both a sprint gs4 and sprint htc one. it's exactly the same on both.

Another N6 on Verizon Experience

I just got my N6 from GPS and successfully connected to VZW.
Contrary to what is being said by some users in this forum, even if you buy N6 from GPS, still VZW could not find your device ID on their network (white list) which leads to some hiccups in activation process. This is what I did to make it work:
1) Requested a nano SIM from VZW. No questions asked. SIM was mailed to me.
2) First I put the SIM in N6, called VZW to actiivate the phone. It did not work as they could not identify my device
3) Then, I put the new SIM in my wifes' iPhone5 ( which is already active on VZW network with its ano sim ), asked the guy on phone to active. He did it and it worked.
4) Then I took the new SIM from iphone5 and placed it in my N6. The N6 is activated with no problems
5) I put the old sim back in my wife's phone and the phone came back to its original state and bound back to its original phone number.
I could have activated the new SIM in my old phone (Note 2) as it only takes micro SIMs and hahing phone with a nano SIM is the key to get your N6 activated on VZW
So far it is working very well and showing up as NON-VZW Device. I hope that the big red will soon start supporting N6 so that my device will show up correctly on their network.
One small problem. If you want to change your plan, your online account poratl will not allow you and advises you to call VZW. When I saw that message, I called them and was told that my change of plan option was locked up because I have NON-VZW device in my account ( I want to know if other have the same experince). He said it is not a problem and if I want to change my plan right now he can temporarily chnage the device to something else that is supported so that I can change my plan. He also said this will be like this until VZW start offering N6 officially on ther network. No big deal for me. I like VZW network coverage and in fact it is the only network that has a coverage at my work area. Other than the rumors of N6 coming to VZW on Feb 26th, are there any other more concrete news of when it might be coming to VZW if al all that happens ?
Thank God there's another thread started for this.
Yes.... The problem is getting an activated nano sim. Harder for some then others. You got lucky you had a second Verizon phone with a nano slot.
The hard part is getting yourself a nano sim. I talked a corporate store into giving me one. I then took the imei off a moto x I had and activated my number and that sim online using the imei off of the moto x (go get the imei off a demo phone, might not even be required for the imei to be for a nano sim phone) I then popped it onto my N6 with no problems

If you had a moto x already (which uses a nano sim) this whole process should have been a complete non-issue. I don't understand why people are making this out to be such a complicated process.
If you're activating a Nexus 6 on Verizon odds are you are already a Verizon customer which would mean that you have a Verizon sim.
It's not very difficult to cut a non nano sim down to nano size. That's how I got my Nexus 6 activated.
Grandfathered unlimited data and proud.

[SOLVED] Total Wireless (Verizon MVNO) - New Phone / Same SIM

I am switching from my old Nexus 6 to a brand new Moto G5 Plus. I am with the carrier Total Wireless which is a Verizon MVNO. Their cellular service and pricing is excellent. Their CSRs are low functioning. What I want to know is if I can just pop out the SIM from my old phone and put it into my new one without any issues. They both take the same size SIM and they're both compatible with Verizon. I won't have to buy a new SIM card or anything like that, will I? I ask because a CSR told me that the SIM cannot be removed and is part of the phone so I would have to buy a new one. Yeah...I know. It was painful. I just left the chat. Thanks in advance for the help!

As long as sim is not locked then you should be able to put it in the g5+, log in to your total wireless account on WiFi and input your IMEI or MEID (which ever is longer) into your account for that SIM, and boom your rocking. You might not even have to do all that sometimes popping the SIM in just works.

OK, cool. Thanks! Do you have experience with this? I ask because I have not seen anywhere on the website where I can edit the existing IMEI in my account. All I see is their Compatibility Checker.
Sorry I just assumed, not helpful I know that's just how it's been for me with other. Carriers. Sorry about to bad answer. Sounds like they must lock the SIM to the phone.

According to that you can just pop in the Card though.
Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance

Well, I do appreciate the effort! That's more than I could find. When my new Moto G5 Plus comes in I'll pop my existing SIM in and go from there. I figure if it doesn't work I'll just play stupid, tell them my phone was working then all of a sudden it isn't and make them fix it. Worst comes to worst, I have to buy a new SIM for a dollar or whatever. Thanks again! I'll report back here with the conclusion
I bought a new unlocked phone for Total Wireless but it used a different SIM size. Once I put the new sim card in the new phone, I logged into my Total Wireless account online, clicked the upgrade to new device and went through the steps. Once I completed that I powered up the new device and it worked.
Hope this helps in some way.

I don't see "upgrade to new device" anywhere listed on the site. Can you direct me more specifically? Thanks.

Log into your account. It should be at the account options screen. If not, click on link to the left.
Once that comes up, click on view details. It should list your phone. Over to the right it should give you the option to upgrade the device.
If it doesn't then something is most likely wrong with the account and you'll need to get in touch with Customer Service.

Can you post a screenshot or something? Nothing you're saying is even remotely on this site. Are we talking about the same company?! Also, I just got a hold of them and now they are demanding I buy a new SIM card because apparently I can't transfer service to a new phone. That makes ZERO sense. Do you have to be UNDER a certain IQ to work for this company or what?!
So the verdict is in. With Total Wireless you CAN pop out the SIM from your old phone and put it into your new one BUT...there is an issue. The old phone's IMEI stays associated with the SIM you just put into your new phone. That will never be an issue should you just put the phone into the "old phone drawer" but it MAY become an issue if you sell or give away your phone to be used with Verizon or another Verizon MVNO. From what I gather, that IMEI will show as in use and not allow another user to register it with a new SIM. Will it matter if you go with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc...? I'm unsure but from what I gather, I doubt it. The really dumb part about this whole thing is Total Wireless's unwillingness to just unregister the old IMEI from your current SIM and register a new one. From speaking to a Verizon representative this is totally possible but Total Wireless refuses to do it. Instead they demand you buy a new SIM card. I assume this is from complete ignorance as their CSRs are almost completely inept. It's the best "bang for your buck" company to go with when you want / need Verizon service but if you need help...may the force be with you. Put it this way...They didn't even know what an APN was and insisted it was only a single word long (not even the right word).
I have two Moto G5 Plus's that I bought from Best Buy on the same day at the same time. I checked both IMEIs about 2 months ago to see if they were compatible both where. Now that my auto for ATT Gophone got turned off in time bought the CDMA sim kit. I went online to activate. Total Wireless said one is compatible and one is not. I called customer support and talked to a supervisor still got same thing. Was told if the phone wasnt activated on VZW then it would be unable to work. I told her both have been on ATT since day one. WTF! So looks like I am staying with ATT.

Using Red Pocket CDMA

Is anyone using Red Pocket CDMA? Will I have to contact Red Pocket for CDMA_LESS to have text messaging working? My 6t arrives today and I am beginning to wonder if it will even work with Red Pocket CDMA. I was going to put my activated sim from my axon7 into the 6twhen I get it and hope it works.
So I got the phone today. Data works but can't make or recevive calls/text. Waiting to see if Red Pocket can do anything.

You may need to program in the APN settings for texting and calls. I am unfamiliar with Red Pocket, but searched the APN settings for them:
https://bestmvno.com/apn-settings/red-pocket-mobile-apn-settings/
Hopefully this helps
Edit: I believe CDMA APN settngs are at the bottom of that link.

Thanks. The sim card needed to be replaced. Something about it locked to 3g or a 3g only card. It's all working now except for receiving sms messages. Redpocket has a ticket open to see if they can find a way to add CDMA_less provisioning.

Does Red Pocket use Verizon towers? If so theres been a few articles about a temp fix:
https://piunikaweb.com/2018/11/06/o...ng-issues-receiving-sms-mms-but-theres-a-fix/
Were you able to get the 6T to work completely with red pocket?
I'm attempting to use redpocket (CDMA/Verizon) as well. Sim card is activated and I get data service, but no voice or text. It won't let me change my APN settings. I guess I'll need to call them and get a new sim card like was mentioned earlier in the thread.
The op has the correct CDMA bands for VZW, but unfortunately they are not active. This is a shame as where I work sometimes, CDMA is only available. Not sure why the f CDMA is not active.
So I had the issue with no calls/texts, but data was working on redpocket (verizon version). I called their customer service and told them my symptoms and they got calls and outgoing texts working almost immediately without a new sim card. Apparently we can't update the APN settings because they're automatically fixed on the 6t. Incoming SMS still doesn't work. I asked about CDMA_Less setting, and got a hard "no". Who knows if that's the truth, but the tech I was talking to said it wasn't possible even after consulting his IT guy.
Good news! I was able to get Red Pocket to add the CDMA_LESS feature and now my phone is running smooth as butter! I had some issues so I will explain how I overcame those!
First I couldn't activate my voicemail. By activating this you are activating your phone pretty much. Every time I went to select 1 for English as my language it said I submitted an invalid choice. So I threw my sim in an unlocked iPhone SE and activated the voicemail. I then threw the sim back in my 6t and was able to do everything except receive texts.
So then I contacted Red Pocket. I wasn't expecting much but I let them know clearly that I could do everything except receive texts. I said I just needed the CDMA_LESS feature added. She said my iPhone SE was showing as active so she updated my IMEI on my account and then added the feature. So after restarting my device all is up and running!

Nice! I gave up 5 months ago trying to get the CDMA_LESS added by Red Pocket & switched to their 'AT&T' sim. Not as good as the VZW service, but at least I got texts. Maybe I'll try & switch back...
Thanks for letting us know its possible. Question When you activated the sim on the verison unlocked iphone. Did you enter the activation info again about sim and IMEI of the iphone. Or did you just pop in the sim and made the setup 1st call.
I just tried with a pixel 3 unlocked and I still cant get past activating the sim when I press 1 for English.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'd like to know the answer. Failed to activate with a Oneplus 6T after 20 chats with CS. They said they activated cdma less but I still can't press 1 to activate. I also tried with my friend's iphone and it didn't work either. I now wonder if I need the cdma less deactivated to succeed activate with an iphone...

Verizon in Sim2 slot

Our boss bought 24 phones for the field technicians (he thinks we goof off...some do, I don't), but the phones are Samsung J phones with a small screen. The have the Knox and other crap in them, with the ability to track.
I told him he could track me all he wants, but I'll just toss the sim in my OP6T.
Currently, sim one is a straight talk sim (tracfone) on at&t towers. VoLTE works perfectly, and the VPN settings
can be all edited.
Sim two, has the verizon card. I DO NOT see the VoLTE or even LTE symbol even if I turn off or remove Sim one.
So I tried to edit the VPN settings and all but the name are grayed out? Would this be something with the
Verizon sim card or how it was set up on the Samsung/Knox garbage that won't allow me to edit the VPN in the
Sim two slot?
TIA
Since no one has bothered to try to help you, i want to tske a stab at it. On the One Plus 6t, you have to have your sim card changed to reflect what verizon calls cdma-less. on verizon, it will only use LTE. As far as Samsung and knox, it all depends on which model if ya want to get by all of that. either way, i wish you luck. #downwithbigbrother

I THINK I figured it out. The way they have the "unlimited" data set up for this "business" account of 24 smartphones, they might be throttling it down, just to make sure someone doesn't go bonkers and start downloading a bunch of stuff.
I went so far as to remove MY sim card, stick the verizon sim in the slot 1 side with nothing in the slot 2 side, and the results were the same. I'll find out next week, when they actually start handing them out

based on what ya just said, it sounds like the vzw sim is your work sim. if thats the case, having it shifted to cdma-less may be impossible if you arent authorized to make changes to the account for the sim. its the one weird caveat of the 6t on Verizon. without that change, the 6t doesnt work correctly on big red. i have a post paid personal verizon account, and in order for my 6t to work on the sim i already had activated,i had to call and verizon had to change a setting in my account making my sim card cdma-less. i totally appreciate your sentiment, (i refused a work phone and receive a $20/month stipend for work use of my phone vs having a work phone through my company. about the time i saw all the monitoring apps they wanted to install to pay for my phone, i said no dice.

Thanks, makes sense. I've never had a verizon sim or phone. I'll plug that sim back into the tiny Samsung J phone they were handing out and see how it performs, but, I'm sticking with the OP6T. I've got all the numbers duplicated so I don't really
care about the data speed/voice on the verizon side...I'll just use the at&t side.
As for the monitoring apps, THAT is the main reason I don't want that Samsung J phone
