Force close without notice when playing a video - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hi, so mine is MaxPro M1 3/32 variant. Few weeks ago i flashed DerpCaf ROM with Pico gapps. Everything went great, i have no issue. I decide to install Youtube Vanced via Magisk and it's been working flawlessly. Until recently, it started to force closing without any reason. It doesn't have any notice like "Youtube has stopped working" or something like that. The video just freeze for a few second, and the screen goes full black then i'm back my home screen. I tried re-installing it but no luck. The weird part is, now it's also happening when i'm playing video with other app like MX Player or my browser like when i'm playing a video on facebook. (i'm using Mint browser btw).
I have the log when the force close happen in Youtube Vanced if it make any help to identify my problem.

Exactly same problem persists in my phone running on Havoc OS. Yet to find what is causing it.

try non-root method of vanced youtube

I have a problen when I play youtube

After I used CM7 ROM
When I play youtube by youtube app on wifi.
Its away stop while playing in 0.30 - 1.02 minute
and appeared "error while playing Touch to retry"
How I fix this problem
So Annoy.
Doesn't seem to be a CM7 specific problem, I'm running stock 2.3.3 and mine does this too. Mine doesn't do it every time though, maybe once out of 3 or 4 videos but when I restart it, it goes through the whole video fine.

Youtube/reboots/freeze issues

Hi,
since the latest update 5.1.1 LMY48M I noticed that I have a really annoying issue when watching YT videos. It's like this:
I start the video. normally it would start with a full hd resolution, means 1080p but it doesnt. Instead it lokks like 144p (or what is the smallest resolution?). Thios goes for 10 seconds then the system freezes and reboots.
I try to start the video again. Same thing all over again. again the reboot. The third time it works fine.
The tablet is rooted, Xposed with some modules like YT background, addisabler,..
Always worked fine with the previous update.
Someone noticed something like that?
Same thing here. It has smth to do with 1080p. Every other resolutiion does not cause fc's

This has been happening to me more frequently recently. Really annoying. I'm just rooted on the stock OS. Don't think this anything to do with it though.
Same issue here. It also freezes and shutdown when you try to change the resolution up to 1080p or whatever is max. Only in the YouTube app. No issues with Netflix or browser video. Or ever the YouTube website
Yes tablet freezes, makes a buzzing sound then shuts down and restarts. I think there was a YouTube update recently.
So it was not just me after all. I use a Nexus 10, 5.1.1, stock unrooted. It mostly won't happen, but I know exactly when the crash is coming: the YouTube video starts playing at an apparent 144p, and some 10 or 15 seconds later the video freezes, the last sound sample keeps repeating creeply, and Android crashes and reboot. If this problem isn't limited to my Nexus 10, then it's the YouTube app's fault?
Uninstalled YouTube then installed older version, will report back if that helps.

I just did this and can confirm that it will stop that problem. It took me several roms both lollipop and KitKat to figure it out but I final decided that it was a YouTube issue, as stated in previous post, and downloaded an older version. It is working great now.
"Chance Favors the Prepared"
I can also confirm that rolling back to a previous version fixes the problem
Trying newest version of YouTube http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...43-58-android-4-0-3-5-1-android-apk-download/
Only used it a short time but no problem yet. This version was uploaded 10/31.

That version seemed to work then a newer version came out, figured that would be the one so I installed it. Froze up again so I'm back on version 10.21.57, frustrating.
After putting an older version started having problems with sound sync so went to latest version from play store and turned back on awesome player from developer options and so far everything is fine
Same problem. Nexus 10. Latest firmware, latest version of youtube.
Haven't had the problem since two weeks. And I always have the latest version from Play Store installed. Maybe it was a bug in the last versions.
Ok it used to happen once in a blue moon now it's happening all the time! It reboots, try to watch another video then it reboots again....
Same problem
Have the same problem, latest firmware and latest YouTube app uppdate :\
It's definitely the YouTube app because no other streaming app does this and not even YouTube through the browser.
Same here since some weeks.
Nexus 10 stock and unrooted, 5.1.1 LMY48X. Youtube 10.43.60
Google Play Services v8.4.89 (2428711-236) and Play Store v6.0.0
I can read videos for 10 to 15 secs until tablet freezes with sound, then turn off and reboot.
Then I go to Settings -> Apps -> Youtube, I clear cache (always about 267 Mb) and erase data. And then I can watch about 5-8 videos before it crashes again.
Edit : found 10.47.54 on apkmirror, I'll try it and be back here.
---------- Post added at 12:44 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:32 AM ----------
Same crash with 10.47.54 and always at the same frame in the video. Seems incredible :/
I'll try to downgrade Youtube.

Downgraded to 10.21.57 and... it works.
No more crashes at that same video frame.
Hope this will be OK for others videos... and that Google will solve that bug.
This issue made me get off my butt and put CM12.1 on it.
Will try the downgrade and report back
Has anyone got 1440p working? The freeze and no audio thing hurts when it has such a good screen.
Same problem. Stock N10, unrooted, latest updates and get the crash.

LG V20 plays sound but shows no videos?

For the past couple of days now, whenever I try to play a video, I hear the audio fine, but don't see any video, just a black screen. At first I thought it was trouble with my YouTube app since that's basically where I only watch videos and read on several forums that the issue was caused by having the official twitter app (which is weird since I don't have twitter). I also tried restarting my phone, uninstalling/reinstalling youtube, installing older versions of youtube, all of which never worked.
So I decided to swallow my pride and just download a fake youtube alternative. To my surprise, the videos still show a black screen and only play audio. This had me thinking, so I tried to play a video in my camera roll I downloaded... Same problem, however, if I play a video I recorded myself on the phone it works... The even weirer part is though, that if I play a video through youtube via the Chrome browser it works (despite it looking like 140p and horrible audio) but it works! I've also tried smart cleaning, deleting cache and data but to no avail.
Is there a problem with my phones flash player, or whatever extension it uses? I know Chrome uses its own built in player which could explain why it sorks in Chrome but not anywhere else.
This all seemed to happen randomly, I didnt do anything. Games and other media including music still seem to work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Also I am rooted on 12A and have been for the past 6 months.
I'm also having the same issue with my vs995 running on rooted 12A

Nexus 4 can't play video, can't record video and can't play mp3s

Just got this phone from a coworker, factory reset to Android 5.
I tried to take a video with the stock camera app but when I press the video button, nothing happens.
I loaded some music on the phone from my computer and everytime I click play on Poweramp, the scrollbar goes nuts. On google music it tells me the requested song could not be played. When I try to play videos on youtube chrome, chrome crashes.
When I try to play a 3d game (I downloaded this: https://apkpure.com/city-racing-3d/com.racergame.cityracing3d ) the app does not even start.
I tried updating the webview app as recommended here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/nexus-4-video-playback-issue-android-5-t3177415
But this did not help.
Is there a misconfiguration with the stock rom? Or maybe the GPU in the phone is completely fried and the CPU is the only thing running? I tried an Antutu test which ran just fine. I can post results if that helps.
I am considering installing Lineage OS on it and seeing if that makes the trick. But I want to be sure that this is a software issue before I spend all that time on a phone that might not work.
Thank
UPDATE:
The phone randomly restarts at times so I'm suspecting that the motherboard is to blame. I opened it however and nothing suspect was found.
Installed latest version of lineage os (15.1) and got youtube playback, audio playback. There's just no audio from the speakers or headphone jack but connects to bluetooth just fine. When attempting to take a video with the camera application, the camera app just crashes and says that it can't communicate with the camera.
Am I right in assuming its the mobo?

Flash a different ROM (I suggest Nitrogen OS) and see if the problem persists, that'll give you a better idea.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Labs
Thanks @Akhilesh S V!
I flashed nitrogen OS and original problem persists: I cannot take any videos as the stock camera app crashes when trying.
Otherwise, phone reacts pretty normally and can play video, play music and whatnot. What must I do to fix the camera app? This was a clean flash onto Nitrogen OS.

Camera is a problem in new Android versions. Did u flash stock lollipop rom or just factory reset the phone. Maybe some binaries got messed up. Intead of factory reset, try flashing the stock lollipop rom from google, deleting everything so better backup stuff. That rom had the most stable version of camera for mako. If the problem persists there then there's no hope on any other rom. As for hardware checks there are a lot of apps so u can do that.

Big size videos laggy on oreo

I'm on stock oreo europe b01 version, for these weeks I think my a7 seems to be laggy when playing videos with more than 300mb size. It never happened before, everything was fine. I have tried restarting the phone, or uninstalling some apps that might cause the problem by running in the background but nothing works.
I dont know but the I think this happens only after I flashed the universal oreo bootstack and dont know still how to uninstall it.
The video will run very well using MXplayer apps and set the codec to HW+, if I set to HW only it will be laggy as if it's played with stock video app.
Anyone knows how to solve this? I havent tried to reset the phone yet
