Galaxy s8 and new dex pc app - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello, wonderful community! Was wondering if it's currently possible to use the new Samsung DEX Windows 10 app and an unrooted T-mobile Galaxy S8 with Android P, One UI 1.0, and a USB cable?

Was also looking for a solution to make my Galaxy S8+ to work with my Windows 10 laptop too.

Hi!
Sadly, Dex for PC is not compatible with our Galaxy S8. I think it is rude to make it only available for Android 10+, as the Galaxy S8 will not receive that update. So, there are only a few options you guys can try:
1. Wait for someone to make a One UI 2.0 Rom based on Android 10 (which I think wont take long from now on)
2. Buy a Dex Station/Dex Pad/ HDMI to USB-C Cable and connect it to a monitor to use DeX
3. Switch to a Galaxy S9/S10/S20 (would not recommend that, if it is only for DeX)
4. Try SideSync or another application if you only want to mirror your phone screen on a PC

Samsung S7 mirrorlink support Appradio 4

Hope someone could help me with this. I have been using an iPhone for the last 5 years and in such I have a Pioneer Appradio 4. I am trying to see if I could make the android jump and purchase a S7 edge.
My Appradio supports mirrorlink as well as Appradio live which is garbage.
What I have been reading is there is no Mhl / hdmi support on an s7. However mirrorlink is available on the phone. Is anyone able to confirm that the S7 will connect via mirrorlink on my Appradio? I have been looking everywhere for an answer but most of the stuff is for the older galaxy phones. Sorry if I'm a bit ignorant to searching android stuff I've been chained to iOS and CarPlay for too long.
*Side question-- with Miracast do you lose all connectivity to cell data?
Thanks for all the help in advance
If your Pioneer Carplay head unit supports also Android Auto you can use this method for connecting.
Miracast doesn't interfere with the phone running data connections (wifi or mobile).
Unfortunately it doesn't support android auto. Which is pretty lame.
I dont't know about your head unit, but generally Mirrorlink should work also with the Samsung S7 Edge.
Thanks for the info now my only question is will it work with ARunchained reloaded once this is set I'll be ordering my Galaxy and getting off this iOS nonsense

For that app to work it's required to root the Galaxy S7Edge.
Anyway, if you're not used with Galaxy rooting, Knox and related possible Samsung warranty limitations, you can find these information on the forum. Moreover, to be able to root you need to buy the Exynos version, not the Qualcomm 820.

Okay good I found it on the website it has the exynos processor. Once it's rooted and I change everything I should be able to run this app then? I messaged Area51 hopefully he will message back regarding it. Thanks again for all the info and help.

Yes it works
I can confirm you that Galaxy S7 works with mirrorlink and the AppRadio 4. The sound and video quality are simply perfect. I have been using MHL before with Sony Xperia and ARU, mirrorlink is better. The only issues are the restrictions that mirrorlink implements in the navigation, no recent apps none slide notifications, etc. Hope some friend could mod "Samsung Mirriorlink.app" to break freee these limitations but also in the current situation i recomend you to use mirrorlink with Galaxuy S7 because as I said, the stability and quality are just perfect.
appradio 4 mirror link
did u have to disable android auto?

so it will only work with rooting your s7 edge? if so how do I root my s7 edge? I to want to use mirrorlink with the sph-da120
I Just installed the SPH-120 and I can only get my Galaxy s7 to connect to blue tooth. Tried the developer mode with USB debugging, Switched to MTP configurations, and both USB ports along with multiple APPS. and I cannot get it to connect.
When I connect to the second USB port, Both the phone and radio attempt to connect but the phone screen shuts off and the radio says incompatible USB (original cable).
Hi how do you connect wich cables you use to get it working like you say?

I just created an account here so I can add a reply in case anyone struggles to get MirrorLink to work. I got an SPH-DA120 to work with my Samsung S7 Edge. I went through the same process of connecting the phone, seeing the connected message on the phone screen, and then the SPH-DA120 screen says "Incompatible USB." I thought it was an error but it was simply my failure to understand MirrorLink. You have to first get a certified MirrorLink app on your phone and then choose the home button (or whatever it is...looks like a Windows 7 start menu) and your certified MirrorLink apps will show up there. When you choose the USB/Ipod2 source the HU will always say "Incompatible USB." In my case I used RockScout, which then gives you access to everything on the phone by selecting a "Choose Source" option--that mirrors your phone's screen and provides a gateway to everything on your phone.
Maybe this process is common knowledge about MirrorLink but I spent way too much time googling this and trying random things to get the phone to connect. Something else worth noting is you need a high quality USB cable. The HU seems fine with USB extensions (even cheap ones) but it requires a high quality cable to connect to the phone. Some work, some don't. Not even all Samsung cables work.
One more thing...I actually contacted Pioneer's customer support to get assistance with this. To my surprise they replied to my initial email within an hour. That's impressive for customer support at a large company like that. Admittedly I figured out that the USB cable was the problem shortly after I sent the email but the quick response from them was nice.
Can somebody confirm if a non rooted Galaxy S7 can MirrorLink using rockscout while in motion using the 7000nex soft touch bypass? Trying to mirror every app and function while in motion using the nex. This includes YouTube, Google maps, chrome etc
Great information here. I just started driving a Jeep with appradio 4 in it . I have a galaxy s8 plus. Any advice what to do?
Still stuck with my note 8. Stock android Mirrorlink works but very limited. I tried with rockscout, button savior, LG mirrordrive app etc to screen mirror my phone but n way. The only fault is with Messenger pop-up showing nicely on my car screen. So I tried rooting my phone with magisk and hide my root but the Mirrorlink app is not working anymore. When connected to my phone it says authentification not valid... and the database is no more the same when I want to add some apps in pkgnames...
Hi,
I have problem with mirrorlink pioneer sph-da110 with galaxy s7 edge when I connet via usb I see mirrorlink in appradio. I click in mirrorlink then I see Lg Mirrordrive an I choose this after that I have dark screen and nothing else happens. Somebody can help my where is problem?

Questions regarding samsung dex

Hi all!
I'm planning to buy S8 mostly because of Samsung Dex feature.
That's why, before finally buying it, I want to know a couple of things..
1. Can Samsung Dex be used with a rooted/unlocked bootloader device? Is it protected by Knox security?
- I usually unlock bootloader and root my device as soon as I get it, but I don't want to break samsung dex compabilty.
2. Can Samsung Dex be used with an USB-C extension?
- I saw on a youtube video where the phone doesn't recognize samsung dex when used with case, since it can't dock perfectly. Personally, I'm quite paranoid and want to use my phone with the best protection I could get (which means a huge rugged case). But, I plan to use samsung dex quite frequently - which means a hassle if I need to repack my case every time I plug to the dock. That's why I have to know whether samsung dex is usable with a USB-C extension to prolong the docking.
Thanks in advance for the help

Wireless Dex UI

It will be awesome if someone can mod Samsung Note 9 to display Dex UI wirelessly (i.e. using wifi mirroring technology).
Personally, I'm against it because the lag will just ruin the experience... But, well, experiencing it myself can change my opinion
Um OK.

I have the Microsoft wireless adapter (Miracast) that I use with my Surface Pro 3. I also occasionally use it with the Note 8, mostly for watching videos. The experience has been great and the lags are infrequent. Certainly not a dealbreaker.
I think it will indeed be cool if Dex can be done via Miracast. I use couple of Dex apps (Dex Max and Desktop Hub) and it will be interesting to find out what their developers think. Maybe it will be possible to add a toggle to the apps that trigger Dex mode instead of screen mirroring when the phone is connected via Miracast...
Great idea
I guess Samsung heard you. Read this article ->

Awesome! After 2 years, my post now became a reality with the recently announced Galaxy Note 20 ultra.
Wondering now if this feature can be brought to our old note 9/note 10 via software update or does this require a specific hardware?
What you think guys?
Would be very happy if it's a software thing and they give it to us with the OneUI 2.5 update (if we even get that first xd).

GOOD NEWS !!!
Well I don't how and when it came to our Galaxy Note 9 but the Wireless DEX function is indeed there !
I was just testing the mirroring function with my Galaxy Note 9 and a Amazon FireStick (should work the same with a Google Chromecast) connected onto a 24" monitor via Smart View, then by chance at the end I just pressed the Dex icon and the Dex desktop display just appeared on the monitor !!!
I still have a message telling the "connected TV" is not fully optimized for wireless Dex but it's still working.
Then, There is a second message saying we can use the Note 9 as a touchpad and it works !
I don't have a USB-C hub with me but I guess we could use a mouse and a keyboard as well...

Don't remember when it came either, but I've been using it flawlessly on my roku tv for streaming from sites. Still get hiccups with it occasionally after a period of time though. Reconnecting usually seems to fix them it seems.

I cannot run Samsung Dex on MacBook- SM-T540

Hello guys. I don’t get the MacBook recognises my Samsung Galaxy Active Tab Pro using Samsung Dex. It does recognise the device using Android File Transfer for instance, instead. I have tried installing and te installing both softwares.
The Samsung Chat Support told me I need to buy the Samsung Dex cable, but as far as I know it is an USB-C to HDMI cable, so the connection would not be so “clean”. Actually I have seen Samsung Dex devices working on MacBooks without such a cable.
Any ideas please? I’m desperate because I need it for my work.
Your device doesn't support Samsung DEX. It only works on high-end Samsung devices from the Note 8 onwards.
