Everything basic to know for a new owner of a Redmi Note 7 - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hello, i upgraded from Redmi Note 3 Pro to this beautiful phone and i just wanted to know what precautions should i take before rooting it on the original fw that it came with?
Because every rom i tried on Redmi Note 3 Pro just slowed down after weeks so i just stuck with MIUI, thanks.

I can't tell any ROMs (stock or custom) that don't slow down after weeks of usage: when you install and use lots of apps, use heavy themes and effects, not close heavy apps after use, not restart your phone regularly, etc.?
You can search the forums for useful tips. :fingers-crossed:

You probably misread, or i wasn't clear. I'm not searching custom rom and i stated why. I just wanted to know how could i root redmi note 7 without bricking it. Are there any precautions , something i should know? Plus, it already came unlocked ,because when i booted, in the bottom of splash screen it said unlocked.

If you just want to know how to root RN7 then follow the thread linked above. That thread covers almost everything you'd like to do with your phone. Just proceed as directed and enjoy the power of Android.
The 2nd paragraph in your 1st post was unnecessary though.

[Q] HELP. Note 3 hardware, Nexus 5 Android?

Hi there,
I really like the hardware and battery life on the Note 3 but I hate the Samsung apps, and really miss the clean android OS with the Nexus 5.
Can someone help direct me or answer my question - is it possible to flash a nexus 5 kitkat ROM onto a Note 3? If so, will the S PEN still work and what rom do I use to do this?
I tried looking through the roms in the developer page but have absolutely no clue what any of them are.

I don't think you can use Nexus 5 Rom on this phone, but if you'd like a clean ROM like that one, you can flash CM11 for your phone. To enable S-pen, you'll then need to install CM S Pen Add-on(ROOT).
If all you hate are the Samsung apps, you can flash Omega Rom, it has an option to remove all the bloatware that comes with the Rom. I'm using it atm, and it runs great on my phone (N9005)

I'm not really sure. If your phone is not the international variant, there might be some issues if you try flashing a rom not meant for it.
If you want to install Omega rom, go to the following thread and post your phone specs, people might be able to give you the answer.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470441&page=436
For CM11, you'd go to this one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616162&page=88
To simply remove any apps you don't like, you can install Titanium Backup, but you have to root your phone first, be aware that you'll lose your warranty.

[Q] Galaxy Note 3 Root

Hello,
I'm a new owner of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 running 4.4.2, and I'm looking to replace the stock OS with CyanogenMod 11. I;ve done this process on other devices, but never a Note 3. Could someone help me in the right direction on how to root, install recovery and then install CM11?
Any forum or help I could get would be great!

I did look for awhile for different methods online, but I thought it best to ask others who had successfully done so themselves, so as not to brick a brand new device. I've experienced the frustration of bricking my Kindle a few times when I didn't have a solid method on how to do it, and I didn't want to go through the frustration again.
But thank you for the video you linked! That's exactly what I was looking for!

After seeing the high amount of people that still use this device...
I realized how much it was still in developpement.

Guys, don't change your device, keep it, protect it, mine has a broken screen... I got the lazyness to repair it because I already failed before to replace a scratched one, I even replaced the micro usb port and ordered a new usb cable, now I have an xperia z ultra, it's awesome, but the developpers sucks to explain how to and nobody helps me, I want AOKP, never used it on my note, I was all the time on the CM 10.2 RC 1030

Thanks, I have already backed up my TA Partition (DRM Keys for x-reality bravia engine)
I have rooted my device before, and, updated the SuperSU binary.
And... I tried to flash a recovery 108_DualRec_Jackie099.img via flashtool but my phone couldn't boot.
Then the device was still on flashmod or fast boot, can't remember and I flashed the latest rom on it.
I have huge difficulties to install a recovery on it.
I even tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647492 and it didn't worked at all...
Dude, I have created a thread here where I ask for help http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z-ultra/help/seek-thread-complete-explanations-t2816189
if you know someone that understands the working process of any xperia phones I hope that someone would explain there something
Because every tutorial writes, flash boot.img on your phone, (and, I'm here... okay... with what ? wich option to choose on flashtool, wich mode to put on my phone ? fast boot or flashmode etc etc...)

Unfortunately I do not know anyone with modded Xperia Z Ultra
However based on searches it seems to me that what you must do is unlock the bootloader then use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426736 for the CWM needed for other custom ROMs
I saw some other threads too but this one seems to be most stable based on what I found

the .108 is compatible with some of their kernels/recoveries

The main goal is to install a kernel with custom recovery of twrp or cwm. I was doing my best to search, but I couldn't really find anything newer. Right now I am from phone so I cannot really look into it further, I will later I think. I admit, having a download mode and stuff certainly makes the G note much more user friendly in this aspect.

Beginner's Guide?

Hey guys, so I plan on getting this phone within the next month and I want to be prepared to unlock the bootloader and install magisk as soon as I get it. The guides I've looked at just jump right into it without explaining anything. What are the best up-to-date guides for bootloader unlocking and custom recovery installing? Thanks for any help!

you need to know that there are 3 versions of the phone. A2017 (chinese), A2017G (intl) and A2017U (USA). I don't really know the exact differences, but keep in mind that the A2017U has probably the best support and has the most ROMs and kernels and stuff available. The A2017 comes, from what I've heard, with a recovery in Chinese. And the A2017G has development and stuff but you definitely want to avoid bricking it (DFU mode might need you to disassemble the phone). Besides from that the guides are well written, for example the one I used for my A2017G was okay (from Controllerboy). Everything's explained. If you find something that's not evident send the guide link here and ask.
I just got this phone today too. Man I don't see why anyone's even rooting this... It's working great for me. I spent a couple hours in settings, setting up Nova, and all that, and I'm really amazed by this phone. Stock Antutu and it's scoring 155k! Very fluid phone too. I got scared during delivery, because I started reading horror stories about this phone, and development it seems like there's always something broken or not working correctly. I really really don't see the need to mess with the software one bit! I would recommend sticking with stock just to see how you enjoy it, before taking any risks. I used to be a flashaholic, but after marshmallow, the need isn't really there anymore. Android has become so smooth, rooting has lost most of its novelty. At least that's my opinion.

There are a lot of reasons to root it. Maybe you are just used to the Cyanogenmod ROMs ans don't want to use any of the proprietary ROMs and Launchers. XPosed Framework, adblock, VPN, custom CA Certificates and Linux arm with VNC in the background are only some of hundreds of reasons to root your phone.

There are obviously reasons for root, BUT i am with you on this one. I have personally not found a reason to root yet. And that means a lot coming from me, as i am a real ROM-whore and update-slut. Hey does your rootkit work with a phone that can't access adb? Like I was looking at the EDL method of returning my Axon 7 to stock for an RMA exchange. I am exchanging it because mtp/quick charge/adb does not work anymore. Fastboot still works.

I've had this problem before. It's because I updated an "N" version of Windows without installing the latest media feature pack. If you have an "N" version of Windows, make sure to install the media feature pack.

I am aware of that issue but this is something else. Quick charge doesn't work at all and adb doesn't either. In fact a buddy of mine plugged his Axon into my computer and it worked just fine so..
I just got this phone today and it came with 6.0.1 MM B29. I am pretty impressed by the features that ZTE has added in to their stock UI. I hear that has gotten better with the N updates.
If I OTA update bone stock to N B25 and decide I miss root, I can go back and downgrade to N B19 via various methods and unlock the bootloader, install TWRP, root, and custom ROM etc?

[GUIDE][addison] SETUP Moto z play XT1635-02 : from stock 6.0 to custom ROM.

I have the habit of always asking on a new device no matter how much I think I know!
I have an xt1635-02 (I am US ATT Prepaid)(nano SIM) supposedly here tomorrow so I've been reading tons here.
However, it seems that a lot of the threads are aimed at rooting stock, which I never do.
As a rule, it's trivial:
[!] In this case it seems best to OTA update stock to 7.1.1 if it isn't already. I believe bootloader must be 7.x.x for doing custom Oreo ROMs . Since mine was 6.0 it took about 8 updates OTA and maybe 2 hours(wifi) .
[!]I go to moto site and do the unlock bootloader dance (already carrier unlocked supposedly).
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
[!]Then flash twrp-3.2.1-0-addison.img (Alberto97) using fastboot on my PC. (Ubuntu 17.10 dev 18.04 with adb and fastboot)(dual boot win7)
I do this twice in a row as I have experienced it not working the first time (dead android LOL).(OCD much??? )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
- - -
[!] -->then flash Alberto's verity patch mentioned at the top of his TWRP thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
This modifies stock. Else your backups of stock won't boot. Learned this the hard way!
- - -
[!]Then use TWRP to backup (default settings) stock a couple of times and put copies of both on PC (via USB on stock).(or if for some reason my USB-C doesn't work, via wifi to my router using filezilla FTP and phone app: "wifi file transfer" by "DNL Media UG"(needs permission storage=on..) - I had to redo this twice - redo this twice - kept dropping back to stock recovery.
[!]Then flash the boot logo using fastboot on PC - I usually use TWRP for this but these that I found here are not set up to be TWRP flash compat so will just remove bin from zip and flash using PC. I think I have about 4 possibilities that I found on these threads. Nice! Easy.
[!]Then boot to TWRP and flash Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 arm64 ROM. Why that ROM you may ask. Been using mainly that Alberto97 ROM on my Moto G3 (32bit version of course), and love it. There's plenty of time to try all the others!!!
I usually consider 2 root options; SuperSU 2.82-SR5, or majisk 1520. (for future readers, these are the latest at this time.)(besides I'm very used to them.)
With SuperSU I have had no probs wiping all 4(Dalvik/ART, system, data, cache), flash ROM, flash 8.1 gapps, flash SUperSU, and boot to install.
With majisk I have sometimes had troubles during install if I flash majisk in the first batch so I tend to wipe all 4, flash ROM and gapps, and boot to install. Then when I finally hit desktop, boot back to TWRP and flash 1520 and reboot.
I need root to use TBPro - no restoring on first time with this 64bit ROM- got to do it the hard way!
SO I believe that's it, but if anyone sees a flaw or problem in there, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks!!!
yep look right, i would have added backup EFS and Modem partitions, if you want to be completely safe.
For now, open gapps 8.1 are only unofficial, i would feel a bit unsecure to use that, but it's only me.

Merci! Many thanks for looking in!!!
Yes, forgot to add that - did much xda search on the efs thing and best I found seemed to be a twrp-3.1.1-0-EFS-addison.img which I may very well flash first and do that since no other TWRP that I looked at offers backup efs. Official and squid2 derived (G3) don't. I assume Alberto's doesn't. Seems like I did it very manually on the G3. If you have it it's a pretty good guarantee that you'll never need it! (Murphy axiom)
As to unofficial gapps, I've been testing about 5 different 8.1 ROMs on the Moto G3 over the past couple months and if the gapps aren't built in to the ROM(some pixelexperience roms), all you can get is an unofficial gapps, or do a minor simple hack to an 8.0 so it will accept it. Usually devs will include it. Bless Alberto97 for not including it so I can select my own!!! But I've had no prob with gapps. Open gapps project has 8.0, but of course they won't work on a true 8.1 unless minor hack. I was planning on using open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20180109-UNOFFICIAL.zip (from https://cloud.kenzoroms.club/?dir=opengapps) unless you have a better idea. I wanted to grab camera from aroma(somebody's idea), but I also have about 5 other cameras and gcams waiting on the Sdcard that I want to test, simply because there seemed to be disagreement on what works on Alberto's new 8.1 build, so wanted to be able to report.
Thanks again!

Thanks for great link! yeah I think I used adb as well as an app last time. I'll add recovery this time so that's 3 backups on internal storage (and copied to PC) should be enough! (yes dear readers I am serious about this - 3 times! They are so tiny! And that pretty much guarantees I'll never need it, but if I do, it's childs play to get it back.)
Thanks!!!
If you're wondering about the delay, they sent me a -01 (Droid)(Murphy's law), so they paid for a UPS next day air label back to them(mailed at 4PM) - don't know if I'll get this going before Sat! Oh well!!! Never take these things too seriously!!! Gotta be costing them a chunk! I did briefly turn it on and stuck the SIM in it and it did show LTE on my ATT, but there's a few bands missing that are on the -02, so will wait. Pretty display, though!!! Really looking forward to it!!!

Good plan on sending it back. You would have been SOL trying to root the -01

yes. stock 8.x is a no-no. This one that is coming is 6.0.1 So I will let it ota update to 7.1.1 after giving it a thorough check-out, then try unlocking it, etc. Sound right? I have no interest in any of the hardware-type addons, just the plain phone 3/32 octacore etc. Why this one? - I love the reception (radio) strength of Motos, plus a ton of other things. I stick with them. Plus it's all Albeto97's fault for deving on AOSP 8.1
Lol Alberto97's roms are buttery smooth!

I think they are. He recently came out with an 8.1 AOSP version for the Moto G3 and I love it. I test others, but that's my daily driver. Sure not perfect, but quite good enough for me!!! So I figure when I get it (Tues?) that's what I'll put on it. There's always plenty of time to test others!
Okay, since I am waiting for phone (Tues) , obviously I am worried about "what-if"s and so researching on what to do, "if".
I succeeded in finding a nice zip for 7.1.1 with the Nov security patch
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto Z Play/Stock/
(I am US)(there are many others at that nice site!!!)
That took a lot of time.
Then I needed to be sure that I could get RSD lite to run, and tried and tried to no avail to get it to recognize my phone (even on my laptop) (I was testing with an old Moto G3 stock zip and my G3 phone) before some post gave me a version number much higher than at the RSD site. google gave me:
http://rsdlite.en.lo4d.com/
version 6.2.4, which worked perfectly.
I really need to write a short guide on this stuff - feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel, even though many folks have written much before I came along!
The reason for the above two is that for a while the last few days I kept running into folks who had taken 7 OTA and wound up with a bricked phone. So, yes, I just did a search for "brick" on xda in moto z play and will start reading them! LOL
Quick EDIT: I think I am wrong in that brick assumption - the first 3 I looked at involved encryption and 2 downgrades to MM (which is a no-no). I will read further.
edit2 - nevermind - most are downgrading to MM. Wish folks would just ask before doing that. That is a no-no of most (all?) phones. -

I have no problem with various cameras getting good image, but sometimes on still first pic doesn't save. ( tried camera MX and Professional camera hd. I'm sure lots work about the same.)
Forgot to flash Alberto's verity patch right after flashing TWRP. So I had to RSD lite 7.1.1 Nov 1 and start over - no big deal! OP corrected.
Hello Kris,
I would like to ask for a link where I can download a working RSD so I can unlocked my bootloader.
Thanks
