Touchscreen behavior observed - Nintendo Switch Questions & Answers

was a while since i was here last time.
Congrats to devs for switchroot, bought switch just to flash there android.
in description of known bugs there is a phantom touches sometimes, thats not actually true. The touch is oversensitive.
i installed pixelstarships and immediately noticed that its not random , its always present
In game if you want to look more the right, you just touch and swipe it to hte direction and your cam moves.
You see, if you want to select something (room / crew..) you just point at it with finger and touch. However this is not the case, cause your finger is detected much sooner and instead of selecting something ,you for split of a second will do "touch and hold" , efectively moving cam around few millimiters. Your finger is ALWAYS detected like 1-2mm above the touch screen (i learned how to touch without touching, it took sometime...)
Hope it will get fixed in next release.

It's already known that the issue with touch is the internal resolution is 1080p. An example of this is the boot screen when Android first starts. 1080p on a 720p display = inaccurate touch.

have no idea of inacurate touch (did not had this issue) , i m talking about that "touch" got detected before the actual touch.
But good to know,

Question about touch screen

Hi,
there is something I have been really wondering about lately, and that is wether the HD's touch screen is multi touch capable by hardware, e.g. the hardware is able to identify several touches at the same time.
Now, if you do the following test, start Notes, and press two fingers at the same time on the screen (writing a note with touch). You will notice that the line is drawn in the middle between your fingers. I then started to think that if the screen isn't mulitouch capable by hardware, the point/line would either choose one finger and stick to that, or jump between those two fingers, not draw a point perfectly in between of those two. As it looks now, it seems that the point that is sent with the mouse click event, is a calculated point based on your fingers(1). A calculation that might have been done in the touch driver.
Now there might also exist another reasonable explanation to this, and that is when you press several fingers you press down a larger area of the screen at the same time(2). The point is then calculated to the center of this area. However, this does not realy fit in with the technical design of a resistive touch screen.
I have tried to explain in figures, look at the attachements.
Now, if scenario 1 should be the case, then there might be a chance to reverse engieneer the touch driver and create a multi touch capable phone right?
If anyone have more understanding on this field, please correct me. Maybe I can get some sleep after all.
Sorry for any typos, it's early in the morning..

I have a QVGA Titan and have noticed the same thing.
Also, say on TF3D hold down your finger on the home tab and then put another finger on the tab on the other side of the screen while still holding the home tab and it will go to the tab between them. Also if you slowly release one of the fingers it will cycle through the tabs....

Weird Touchscreen behavour - Video Doku.

Hi, I'm a big fan of the HD2 but in the last two weeks, since i own this device, i'm getting confused by some screen imput behavour that i will present you.
I want to figure out if this "screenbugs" i have to fight with every day, are normal or a hardwaredefect. To make you guys an imagine of what i mean, i uploaded some youtube videos for each bug.
1. The first one i call: The painting edge
This bug is only present if i not have installed the less sensitive CAB from this forum.
Explaination:
Many of you have notice that the glass of the screen doesn't fit exactly in the case of the device. The right bottom of the glass protrude a very little. Then i lightly press on this position, the screen notice a press on the right top...as you can see in notes on my youtube video:
Video 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c49x9vB4bzQ
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beforce you say...my device doesn't having any of the following bugs, REMEMBER, This bugs are not present every second. Sometimes i can use the device for 30min without having some of this.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. The Electrocardiography
This bug, i think could be the reason for the following bugs.
Explaination: Trying to draw a straight line an you think you device will get a heart attack soon.
On the half of my second try you can see how the device suddenly works normal again.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t54m1dSLnV8
3. The shaking Screen
Explaination:
I have notice that some other guys have this bug too. You can see this on every scrollable screen, like opera, IE, zoomed pictures, the manila tab, startmenu...etc. etc.
Best seen on minute 0:54 in my video.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hIE_wV4djs
4.The non pressed key
Explaination:
You are cofused about keyboard reaction while writing a text message? You type an "a" and getting a "t"? Than you have "the non pressed key" bug how i call it.
you have to watch on some key input where my finger is totally out of range. I don't mean the fault input next to the key i pressed...
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_B1GiyMp_O4
----------------------------------------------------------------
There is a fifth bug i didn't get on video yet because it is very rarely.
I had have this bug only 5-6 times since i own this device, but it sucks realy hard.
I call it
5. The self-typing keyboard
Explaination:
Then i'm typing some text sometimes the keyboard begins to typing without having the finger one the touchscreen. it can be have a duration of 5-10 seconds or 20 letters/numbers.
It can also be watched, without keyboardaction. Then the screen scrolls wild in any direction without any finger on screen.
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fdXU8SoPTg from htcracer211
----------------------------------------------------------------
If someone can tell me if i can embed the youtube videos in this forum...
Go get a replacement, the screen is perfect. Although I admit it does not fit correctly but it is great. I only need the earpiece fix
please watch the videos before you comment anything...
...You're too much electrostatically charged...
...Or something of electrostatic is in the range of your device...
But it's like your touch panel is faulty. Get a replacement (warranty rules)
Have brought it back today...but couldn't get a replacement...no devices
tryed all your test and get no errors on screen, electro worked perfecly, keyboard keeps presing same key without leaving the range, and i cant notice any shaking effect.
So probably your screen is faulty , change your device as fast as you can matte
I have brought it already back, but it seems to be that others have all my listed bugs too. take a look at the poll results. On another forum a guy has tested the "painting edge" on 3 devices after he saw my video and all devices have this bug!!!!
Hey Guys,
I have the first 3 bugs on my HD2, too. But with BSB Tweaks 1.31 i solved the first 2 one by activating the option "Screen Sensitivity".
Hi,
If you look in the sticky thread here somewhere in the LEO section about tweaks and registry changes there is a topic on reducing the sensitivity of the screen.
I think what's happening here is the electric current in your fingers is playing havoc with the screen when your fingers are either close to or on the screen.
Let us know if this helps you.
WB
whow, that's a lot of problems for one device.
I have the "non pressed key issue" : (that's annoying as hell, typing a message is a heavy burden now) and the shakey screen. should i bring my handset back or try the tweaks... I didn't expect this from an 600€ handset

When i was made this video my finger was always with the same pressure on the touchscreen. It was not close...and not weak on screen...normal pressure. And you can see at the middle of my second try where i'm drawing lines in notes that the screen suddenly works normal.
I also wrote in my first thread, that this bug is not every second present...but then it's present its also the reason for some other input errors, like the "non pressed key" i think.
Quick question: How much pressure do you apply to the display (what is "normal"?)? Scince your display is reacting weird to pressure on the bottom right corner, any pressure might be linked to erroreous behavior. Do the shaking related errors remain when you don't press at allk?
to the OP: what ROM are you on ? have you tried 1.48 ?
I can recommende you to use screenprotector film and install cab for less sensitive.
But even without this all I had not this problem Looks like your sreen very sensitive for electrocharging and not have normal ground contact. This is way to warranty service.
lmao >.< sorry mate but get a replacement NOW!! I've never got these problems, everything works smooth and properly, sorry about that...
do u have a screen protector? i am wondering if the screen protector does anything bad to it...
You have the exact same problems I had when I first got my device, the main concern was the device having its own mind and making random key presses, even without you touching it or even being near it. I got my unit replaced and the new one works like a charm.
I noticed today that MY PERFECT SCREEN starting acting weird !!!! Its jittering !!! Damnnnn !!!!
I'm totally spooked by your video's!!!
I personally never experienced these bugs so I spend the last half our replicating your bugs.
The only thing I noticed was that Electrocardiography but I think you have your finger too flat on the screen (it has a too large surface area) because when I write on the screen as if my finger where a pencil (straight up instead of flat) the screen is working as it should!
I think you must have a faulty device. Perhaps try to flash it with 1.48 if you haven't done that already.

On iPhone with exactly the same finger it draws almost a precise straight line. This problem comes directly from HD2's screen, not from fingers, weather, humidity and so on.

Touchscreen issue.

One day there'll be an android phone with a touchscreen as good as the iphone...
Actually the S2 touchscreen seems to be pretty good. The only issue I've found is this: There appears to be a 'move threshold'. I.e. when you touch the screen, the touch-down even is sent fine, but when you move your finger slightly no move event happens. You have to move at least.. maybe 2 mm, before any move events happen, at which point the touch jumps from its original position to the correct one. This has the effect of making all scrolls and pans start with a little jump.
Even the crappy touchscreen on my N1 doesn't do this. To me it sounds like a software issue -- maybe even deliberate -- rather than hardware. Does anyone know why they would do this, or how to fix it?
You should make a youtube video showing this issue.
Multitouch Visualizer shows this issue clearly (as well as, on a positive note, showing the screen can identify and track at least 10 touch points simultaneously -- nice!)
Yup, looks like software big. hope its fixed in next update. Try playing pool break game, the direction change due to this bug is annoying.

I think it's a future, not a bug: Not scrolling when you lift your finger off the screen, because you can't lift it perfectly vertically. It happens some time on my DHD.
I've noticed this in every android phone even my nexus one. It must be the way android is written, doesn't seem like there's much you can do about it =(
Also all android phones seem to lag with the touch input. The time between the actual movement of your finger and the screen moving is much greater than ios or wp7 devices. Its like the content is following your finger around lagged while on ios or wp7 its always directly under your finger.
The N1 does it in some places but not all. The most obvious place it doesn't do it in is the (stock) lock screen. It also doesn't do it when you slide the notification bar up from the bottom (but does when you slide it down from the top!)
The SGS2 seems to do it absolutely everywhere. I also think that the 'step' is bigger on the SGS2, although that might just be due to the screen being larger. It's quite possible that when someone creates an AOSP ROM for the SGS2 it'll go back to doing it in the same places as the N1.

Touch Screen Unresponsive

I don't expect there's much that can be done if the hardware is to blame. This reminds me of my Galaxy S3 -- so it's a problem that everyone else fixed ages ago. When I touch the touchscreen, very very often, it doesn't register that touch at all. Sometimes you get a delayed response. This leads to all kinds of fun where you tap the screen again at the same moment that PH-1 responds to your first touch, so it applies your second tap to whatever is going to come up on the screen a half second later.
Does anyone know if this can be fixed by firmware updates or is this a hardware issue?
same here! my huawei honor 8 is much faster
Touch Screen unresponsive is a hardware issue. I had the same problem with my HTC U11 until it was replaced. Essential phone does not have this issue assuming screen is working properly.
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Touchscreen responsiveness, having to tap more than once for the screen to register a touch and awful light bleed caused me to send it back. But it was from the first batch that were manufactured. No issues on my U11, but I bought it in early August.
Confirming u installed the most recent OTA (NMI64C)? Because that fixed my touch issues.

Yep that's what I currently have. I think the phone found that update on its own a few days ago. Touch issues seem to be hit or miss and maybe less frequent since that update. We'll see how it goes from here.
touch unresposive is due too thermal trottling or like me the launcher stock.
Solved with Evie launcher
Using a different launcher and such didn't help me out, unfortunately. Besides the tap issues, scrolling through a web page in any browser or with apps was extremely slow and laggy. My PH-1 was already being returned, so I couldn't test the latest software update they pushed out. But my device also had some horrible light bleed all along the left and right edges.
No light bleed here. But [email protected], the responsiveness of this touch screen is worse than any other phone I've had. And the new software update hasn't helped at all!...
Same issue!
I too am having touch screen issues. Today, I was on the phone and went to go back to the screen and the screen stays black. I tried everything including pressing the power button and I got no response from the phone whatsoever. The only thing that finally worked was to press the power button and the volume down button and hold them at the same time to shut my phone off after the call already ended. In addition to that issue , I also use Swipe to type and when I do so it often skips over letters and types words that I am not even trying to type . It should be mentioned that I'm a very experienced swipe user and I have not had this problem with my S7 Edge or my Wellington . Also, I should mention that I have the most recent OTA. Also, has anyone else noticed that the camera shutter has a serious delay in it even with the Google camera mod?
I've noticed my touch screen freaking out sometimes. It has more to do with the screen having too many prints on it. Guess it's a bit too sensitive. I wipe the phone screen off and it's fine. Doesn't happen very often. I have one of the latest batches, pure white.
Already looked into this?
Sensitivity:
1. Tap on the "Settings" icon on the home screen.
2. Tap "Language and Input".
3. Scroll to the very bottom of these settings and tap "Pointer Speed".
4. Increase the slider to make the touch screen more sensitive and easier to tap. Decrease the slider to make your touch screen less sensitive and more difficult to tap.
5. Tap "OK" and then experiment with the results.
Essential Support still working on that and they send me this instructions for now.
I think it makes the user experience better.

Same.
Hope it will have a fix soon.
Early on I got the black screen that required a power hold reboot, since moving to Oreo I've not seen that

This I have experienced too
edit : solved with oreo beta

When I touch some letters on my keyboard, it's unresponsive. Same with some apps. I don't know why this phone is so frustrating to use even if it's a very good smartphone.
EDIT : I'm on Nougat's lastest version, not on Oreo beta.

Had it on both versions to be honest, but hoping it's getting resolved as time goes on!
Just got mine..same thing but...
My screen was doing fine until i installed "All in one gestures". I was messing around with side gestures and this caused the screen to be non-responsive. I un-installed the app, reinstalled it and set it up differently and now it is fine.
I hope this helps.

This helped me. I have mine set at approximately 3/4 and I'm happy one day in. Seems to work great now. I would still like smoother scrolling though. Thanks a million.
I was also having trouble with Android Pay and then found a post about the NFC being located near the bottom of the phone as opposed to the top as on my Nexus 6p.
With these problems fixed I'm completely pleased with this phone.
ugh! Flashed back to stock on 7.1.1/NMJ32F/436 as that is how my phone came, and now I have no touchscreen after re-boot?!?!?! any advice? Please?
Thanks,
DJ

Replaced Display (lcd+touch screen) touch resolution issue

I changed the whole screen (lcd+touch). Then I noticed that the screen touch performance is buggy. I couldt type well, it touches twice and writes a word for example "like => liikee" and this makes me crazy!.
Then I changed it again with a better one but this issue stilles. the response of touch screen is like a low resolution. But when i use a simple drwaing app it draws perfect lines even dots close enough. What should I do to solve this?
