Who knows the location of the S/N in the FTM?Easy change IMEI and S/N - LG V35 Questions & Answers

I flashed ULM-PIE with chiperase mode,then I lose my IMEI and S/N
It is not a big problem.all the data is in the FTM,
I just need adb shell - su - and dd of to sdcard
then modified the ftm.img with ultra edit ,
finally,dd of the img back. done
But when I actually did it, I found that the location of S/N wasn't the same as that of V30,
IMEI's location is 00e00040h~50h,start at 5

so where is the S/N
(of course you can change IMEI with SVC tools :mid info)

hello
my ftm.img is erased on my v35
can you share your bacup in pm?

I did exactly the same as you did, i used chiperase and I lost my IMEI and my S / N, fortunately I managed to recover my S / N but my IMEI not. What positions of FTM.bin did you edit to restore your IMEI?
Edit1: I just saw you put the information. I will try to restore the IMEI.
Edit2: edit the file in the block position you indicated, reboot my device and my IMEI is "0".
To verify that the FTM file was copied correctly, I extracted it again from the phone memory and to my surprise, the block where the IMEI number is found is again at "0".
Do you have any idea what might be going on?
Could you please put the entire command to read and write the FTM?

Will you people stop using Chip Erase! It's in the warnings in many places not to do that.
It's an all my guides and I know @cmrntnnr put it in his.

Im sorry, I appreciate your concern but at this time I am not looking for a scolding I am looking for a solution, so I will go from your comment.
There are reasons why chiperase is used, the option for something is there. You can learn more at 4pda. Regards

I know what Chip Erase for. I don't need to go to a Russian hacking forum. If that site has so much information, go ask them. Why you coming to XDA for help?
As I said in my warning, you mess with it then you get someone else to help you.
My post was to warn others not to do what you did. Many people get into LGUP and just start pressing buttons. Unless you know how to recover from your disaster don't touch Chip Erase.

You do not own XDA sir, you cannot tell me not to come here to make an inquiry. I sent you to another forum because apparently your knowledge is limited to simply saying not to use chiperase to avoid losing the IMEI. On the other hand, assuming that you know more than I why you advise me not to use a warmer is very daring of you. And no, not only is chiperase used for 2 things.
In XDA I have read several comments of yours and I see that you like to start discussions for obvious reasons. When you ask a question, I don't understand why someone has to answer with another question "why did you do it?", Does that solve the problem? I clarify that the subject of this publication is of interest to me, why do you come here to tell me to go somewhere else to ask?
Sorry, but I don't know what it is. At no time am I promoting piracy, I clarify it because that word came out of your mouth.

I did not ask why you did it. So you are wrong in stating that.
I also never used the word piracy. It never came out if my mouth.
However, since you brought up the subject, I'm sure know Chip Erase is often used to launder stolen phones. That's a frequent reason people would purposefully erase IMEI and serial number to replace with another. That's NOT why it's in LGUP -- but that is a usage. And no, I'm not accusing you of being a thief.
Others use it to avoid paying high import taxes on their phones. But usually it's the "professional" dealer who does that in those country, not the "amateur" buyer.
In all my guides about bootloader unlock and cross flashing LG firmware, I've never seen a valid reason to use Chip Erase (for those specific functions).
There are other reasons a professional cell repair people would use Chip Erase -- but those professionals also know how to recover from it.
It's a very powerful "destructive" tool -- much like how dynamite is sometimes used in construction. I am merely warning others not to do as you did and screw up your phone. There's too many people using it and not knowing how destructive it can be.
Over in the V30 forum some people have claimed in other forums advanced users have advised them to use it, then the victims come here to XDA asking for help. So, whoever told to to use it at that Russian site, I was telling you they should also help you.

If you've read a lot of my comments, then you know I've helped thousands of people, and I've been thanked for it. If I feel like commenting on something or explaining something that will help others, I will.

It was never my intention to start a discussion, I see that neither is yours. I will end the discussion here so as not to distort the purpose of this post. Regards

I wanna change IMEI

hey i have DOPOD 838 PRO and i wanna change the IMEI number.... Iunderstand all the risks involved in it but i still wanna do so. So anyone can help me with this plzzzzzzzzzzzz
I doubt anyone here would openly suggest a way of doing so as it's illegal.
And all your other posts suggest something very fishy....

There are lots of "good" reasons, like "I stole the phone and hope to hide the fact" or "I want to defraud the manufacturer" etc...
Richard
Oh, and FWIW, I thought US law specified "ESN" and therefore I thought I'd read that IMEI changing isn't actually illegal in the US. Of course this was a while ago, and I am *NOT* a lawyer anyway.
Sorry zahirsayed, this forum is NOT the place to discuss this stuff.

Yep, definatly a case of "this handset is not yours" fever here i think
So, first you need help unlocking the keypad and now you want to change the IMEI?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284549
Fishy.
Easy and legal way is this - unplug halfway through an update, or fry the board somehow, send it in for a warranty repair with proof of legal purchase, and they will replace the board which also changes the IMEI - there you go, a legal and easy way to do it.
that outta make him disappear like a warm summer breeze..... :chortle:

Fishy..If this all doesn't say "I have a stolen device" I don't know what does.
OMG!!!!!!! so now i have been tagged as a THEIF..... I asked for keypad solution just because someone REALLY changed it........ and i was just curious about IMEI number like wht if i change it........ people here come out with their own conclusions just cause they feel something is fishy here...... well a simple answer here would be that " NO CANT HELP COZ ITS ILLEGAL " and not that blaming me for being a theif..... i needed help so thats why i post my problems here and first time i got som real help...... i was online to post for a new ROM installation help but now i feel that i shouldnt post anything here...... I am sure i am not the first one to ask for an IMEI change.... all those who asked for it were they thieves too....... ah come on........ i got a new piece and i was so glad to see all these possibilities that can be done with my cell and thats the reason why had post such a request this time........ sorry once again XDA-DEVELOPERS....... u can ban me if u want.......thnxxx
Your first post suggests that you wanted it changed desperately. Now, in the post above, you say you're just being curious....
Something veeeeeery fishy, methinks.
Fantastic idea, you should be banned. Being what you are you will probably reregister. My suggestion to you is that you send the fone back to the poor guy who lost it. When you lost your phone didn't you wish a decent fellow found it and handed it in. Go on and do the decent thing.
The only "legit" reason I can think of to change an IMEI is if you live in Turkey and bought your device in another country. A stupid law there puts honest people in a very difficult situation.
To be fair lads, as far as I'm concerned, we can discuss mechanisms for changing the IMEI, as it's an aspect of xda developing, and the founders of this forum did some of the seminal published work in the field.
However, legitimate reasons for imei changing are limited or questionable.
zahirsayed: if you can make a good argument for why you need the IMEI changing, some people may help you out. Otherwise, it's normally implied that the obvious reason to change the IMEI is as a result of a friend of a friend giving a friend a phone... we don't promote that kind of immoral behaviour. But we're all for bestiality...
V
@ josephicon plzzzz u don have to decide that i should be banned or not from this forum coz u r just a junior member like me and that decission is of the moderators.... so u can keep ur expert comments to urself.... well i wanted to change IMEI just like that really vijay555 trust me.... well i don mind if i cant change it ..... well in my country IMEI is still an unknown fact so i don have to worry abt it even if i stole any device..... if would have stolen the device i wouldnt have been askin such questions openly........ plzzz stay in ur senses....

Wm 6.1 Thought?

This may be a really idiotic question but in my mind it really makes sense. But, I only know some basic things about programming and things of that nature, and not to much about ROM's. But anyway, here goes.
I called Htc earlier today, as I do every week to see if there was any new news on a release date for the very , very elusive Official Windows Mobile 6.1 upgrade for my Htc Touch/Vougue, from Alltel. Knowing that Alltel is usually one of the last carriers to get things done,
I tried to get a release date from him with no prevail. But he mentioned that Wm6.1 had already been released in a few other countries(Im in the US), which Im sure quite a few of you knew, but I did not. I had actually never heard this, or read about it here, so I called back and brought it up to another tech and he said the same thing, so I am assuming it's true. If they have misled me , then I'm extremely sorry for the waste of space.
Now I dont know what countries he's talking about, no clue actually ,but heres my thought. If it has already been released in an official form from some overseas cell provider, why couldn't someone download the ROM, and somehow add language support for other countries? Couldn't they just remove the Radio portion of the ROM and release an actual wm6.1 ROM.
Now, like I said , I know nothing or ROM's other than what Ive read here over the past few months, and only what little Ive understood of that. But there are Wm6.1 threads everywhere , of people wanting a stock/orig version, so this just crossed my mind. Maybe that where these custom 6.1 roms on here come from? Im not sure. But its just a thought. Anyone care to correct me or comment? Dont be harsh though, I seriously didn't know if this was possible, and thought if it was, why hasnt it been done. Thanks guys.
oh my god. Curious George.. no comment?

i think wm6.1 roms are available here for a long time..
It's been realesed in various countries outside of the US most likely because of a higher demand, and HTC operates from Taiwan. The update itself is per carrier and country.
Try the "Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking" section, or the section dedicated to your phone, and you might find what your looking for.
I too am suprised to see curious george hasn't told you to stop thinking, maybe he's been kidnapped or something?

Excellent question! Can we get a Sticky or maybe add this to G.W.E.N.I.???
i don't think we need a sticky on it here's the answer:
you go peeing, and if it doesn't turn on when you're back, you should give up and buy a symbian based phone.

Isn't that a phone for monkeys?
(Maybe we SHOULD sticky this, ehehehehe! )
as it seems... the monkey is dealing with that phone very well
(he probably installed an HTC WM6.1 Official ROM on it himself)
but Dr.Puttingham, you're posing a new and serious question which i will search google for straight away.
"do monkeys pee?"
i will edit this post later with the answer.
(also, i suggest creating an archive with all questions which are too stupid to be asked. before posting every member has to read the whole list and then post a question, if he/she didn't follow the rules he/she will be accused of murder)

Now THAT is a great suggestion! We need to start a sticky for these stupid question with a EULA requiring clicking "I have read and agree that these questions are too stupid, even for me"
LOL! dude... you're killing me.
yeah, the eula thing would be so funny, make it some crap like
"its ok to ask if windows mobile 9 can be ported to the sony ericsson k750"

Solution: jtag
and by any chance isnt that a Rogers or something other boarded that needs other radio than "ordinary" G1s?
well probably it is ****ed anyway, would be a bit more hassle to give it rebirth via jtag.
sorry for your loss
but.... is only solution??
thanx..
If you can't get into fastboot or recovery then your only option is jtag. Or use it as a paperweight. Or a battery charger for a replacement g1. Or sell it for parts
Firstly WRONG SECTION!
There seems to be this beast creeping back in around here of misposting in incorrect sections. Please read the rules.
As for the phone as already displayed if you can't follow simple instruction you deserve what you get, next time instead of thinking you know better than those that have done this a thousand times before you when you get a new phone you will....
...Learn to follow SIMPLE instructions.
Let this be a lesson to others who think 'They know best'. 99% of all problems on this site could be easily solved if only people would learn to read, Understand, and follow simple instructions!
Besides the extremely rude reply above me, here's a link that will probably help you if you have decent computer skills:

It's got some pretty good resources for JTAGing which looks to be your only option.

Rude? No.
Truthful? Yes.
How long has this phone been out? How many threads/posts can you find on a Google search alone regarding flashing Danger SPL and the pitfalls of doing it incorrectly? How many thousands of tutorials/info pages are there explaining the correct procedure?
And yet STILL people brick there phones because they can't follow very simple and very basic rules and instructions. I'm sorry if I don't sugar coat my replies and be all ' Aawwww poor diddums did you break your phone, thats awful! Poor you ' and be all sweetness and light but sometimes people just need telling and telling straight.
And if the "offending" post helps ONE person sit up and think about what they are doing before they do it and saves them bricking there phones rather than switching off reading the usual replies of 'Poor you' and thinking to themselves 'Won't happen to me' then my replies will always be blunt and to the point on this subject.
It's not to offend, abuse or to be rude to anyone, its just a simple truth.

Staggeringly high unfortunately, all because they can't be bothered setting up the sdk. The mind as they say boggles....
Edit: Oh and just a case in point of how stupidly easy and transferable it is. I setup sdk for G1 using sdk r04 (about two years ago! Yes its been that long lol) and STILL today on my N1 it works perfecly only thing I updated was the N1 usb drivers. Thats the beauty of it, when its setup thats it for pretty much your android phone history for the average user!

Well, that REALLY WAS stupid of you. As has been mentioned, jtag is your only option.
Next time, don't do stupid things. 1.33.2005 SHOULD NEVER BE USED. There is no point, nothing to gain. What is the purpose of taking a risk when there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to gain from it?
FYI: "haykuro" was a HACK. Following his BRAINDEAD ideas resulted in HUNDREDS of devices being destroyed beyond PRACTICAL repair.
i was one of those not listening or reading people. I am glad for the straight forward way you tell it. following the advice you gave me around a year or more ago has saved my ass on more than one occasion with the g1. making me sit back and not rush it,while thinking "WWS31D"lol
There is a reason why step-by-step instuctions are in the order they are in, imagine building a house by starting with the roof, and then wonder why it came crashing down, because there wasn't even a foundation yet
Is there really any reason to tell someone to jtag a dream/g1 at this point in the device life cycle? A jtag arm program/debuger is going to run about 50 bucks, and you are going to have to buy/make a logic level converter since the g1 dosen't like ttl logic levels. On top of that, the person is going to have to use openocd wich dosen't come as a binary (or maybe there are bins for windows but I haven't really looked) so have fun with that. But the most important point, if they failed to follow the instructions and bricked their phone in the first place are they really going to be able to follow the jtag instructions?
TL;DR you made your self a brick. Go sell it on e-bay for parts.

Some (very few) people have more hardware knowledge than software and might have the parts laying around. Or they might have friends with these skills.
They asked for a solution for the problem, jtag will fix it. But most people arent able to because of lack of skill/tools/experience. so being told to jtag it to most people means your screwed, sell for parts.

Totally agreed! Just did the samething yesterday and I had been reading the preaching on fastboot all along and like everyone else thinking (Nah! It an't going to happens to me, I won't brick my phone) Long on behold, I just did. Bricked my only phone!
I totally see where you are coming from but...
If it were me and I made the OP, the last thing I would want after ruining my phone that I paid money for is people rubbing it in my face of my stupidity and idiocy. Rather than pointing out the obvious mistake that he already knew that he made, I thought it would be much more helpful to come up with a possible solution rather criticize his intelligence.
That's pretty much all I have to say. Have a good day/night

I agreed with you definately rubbing/bashing on someone when they screwed up (just like I did the other day) is not helping. *** no pun intended to anyone here*** In this case the only solution (for now, to my understanding) is to jtag the phone. And many are too scare (including me) in doing it. And having someone else doing it for a fee. Well, paying for jtag, I might as well using that money toward a new phone.

[LOST AND FOUND!]Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I've found Samsung Galaxy S III White in the bar at Budweis (Southern Bohemia, Czech Rep.) yesterday... So i've picked it up and decided to find its rightful owner... BUT...
It seems like some gipsy put a great effort in attepmt to bypass IMEI validation... the IMEI is blank (0049....) and so the serial number, the white sticker (don't know how to tell it in english ) behind battery is missing... wifi mac adress is apparently spoofed (vendor ID is Realtek, should be Samsung) similar story with bt mac... so i didn't went to police... they would take it from me and put it in the shelf forever...
If you know someone who was around budweis and lost or got stolen white SGSIII, pm me please... Albeit rendered unusable by some d**khead, you might contact samsung to fix your phone up, it might not be that much money compared to value of the phone...
Be prepared to answer few questions about the phone, i need a proof that you (or your friend who claims that the phone belongs to her/him) is rightful owner... (that's why i'm not posting photos here)
PS: if someone knows how to recover IMEI from totally blank EFS without backup (at least read it maybe it's printed on PCB or something...), i'm all ears, it might help a lot... The police should be able to find the owner using IMEI...
Found phone in a bar? Very cliche Maybe it's the s4 prototype?
Seriously, well done for being so righteous. There are not a lot of guys like you out there unfortunately.
It would be a deathwish to scream "hey i'm the one who stole ur phone from ur pocket! and then fcked it up hard cause i didn't know that even 3310 had IMEI and was rendered useless after theft! Come and punch me in mah face!"
The more likely is the story that someone thought that it's not hard nut to crack, then done his job on this poor hardware, gave up and decided to bury evidence by wiping it from fingerprints and leaving it somewhere where sooner or later anyone find it and will try similar approach as him...
Maybe my righteous behavior have origin in having Xperia S, which i personally love and would be mad as hell if something like this happened to me...
Nice to see there is some honor and decency left in this world, well done OP

Great idea but unfortunately the data partition was erased, possibly because SGS III as i've learned by browsing settings have some anti-theft functionality in it, and the person who stole it had pretty comprehensive knowledge about how android works, so wiping data was possibly one of the first things he has done... also the phone is obviously rooted and since it uses pretty much stock ROM (its not even deodexed...) it was possibly required to ruin it the way it is...
Maybe its not visible very well but does anyone have any idea where IMEI could be when mtp partition is wiped? The phone's warranty is screwed up as it doesnt have the sticker below battery so i'm willing to open if anyone is positive that it's written somewhere on ie. pcb but i personally doubt it cause i've never seen it before and would be very surprised to see it now so i don't even bother putting it apart as i might harm the poor device even more...

Try reading properly, she found it in a bar, and concluded it had been stolen and abandoned as the thief obviously couldn't get it to work, or tried and messed up.
Please, guys... maybe my english is not that brilliant, but i believe it's clearly stated
...and the person who stole it...

As i've said, it was really messed up by some tard... dunno why he actually bothered removing that sticker below battery...
Why are you so sure the phone belongs to a person? The IMEI being 0049... and no sticker could point to it being a shop demo model, open the phone, look at the flash chip and see if there is a green or white sticker with the words PAP.
Impossible... shop demo models at least here in czech republic are allways units intended for sale by manufacturer... also they are perfectly secured and close to shop personnel in case that someone gets that fancy... we have a lot of thieves in czech republic unfortunately... but i'll try to put it apart in case i find something useful...
edit: no such sticker (or any sticker at all) found,,, reassembled...

People should be warned before rooting HTC M8

Hello,
I've been using Galaxy s3 for and recently moved to HTC M8.
I rooted device and unlocked the bootloader to be able to make few things however I've never predicted that unlocking bootloader is (almost) one way ride.
HTC made a life really difficult and If I knew that it will be a hassle to unroot/lock the bootloader (+removing modified flag) then I would think twice before rooting.
I think it would be good to make this post sticky so people should clearly be made aware of what will happen when they root.

You're coming from a Samsung device, where they don't even allow you to take an OTA EVER AGAIN after rooting, and you're complaining about HTC??

its down to the user themselves, yes it has an element of risk and we see so many people messing up their phones as they didn't read the necessary info prior to unlocking/rooting. Also yes, rooting a sammy is a piece of piss compared to HTC in certain respects, but the resources are here and providing people embrace the resources on offer they shouldn't have any issues
whilst the above statement agrees with you somewhat, this is a pretty useless thread and goes completely against what xda is here for
to sum up,
1, people who are not prepared to do the above, should not think about tampering with thier device
2, thread reported as it serves as much use as a chocolate tea pot, you are defo trolling and inflatable dart boards have served much more use than this.:laugh:
and you post this at XDA.....the mother of root and customising phones ?
All the things you do to your own phone is at own risk ! You know what the real solution is ....
READ until you actually know what you are getting in to ! if you don't know the terms and conditions than this is not the place to be !

I clearly understand risk of rooting (bricking device etc) but it would be really easy to tell people that if Sunshine will not work rooting will be just one way ticket!
That's it -as simple as that.
You can change the tampered text, set s-off status text to On and yet have the s-off, so that it doesn't cause problems for warranty purposes...

Set your m8 s-off and you're able to remove tampered **** with a simple adb command the Same simple a Bit different adb command is for lock your device so read the therms and the instructions ??

providing the user keeps a backup available of thier original rom, returning to stock will never be an issue. the firmware cant be changed as the CID cant be changed
yes warranty is buggered but that's defo the case with samsung devices also. I have a galaxy tab s 10.5 and there's nothing on that particular forum that i could root with without tripping the knox counter
basically if anyone is going to go into rooting without reading what people have been kind enough to compile and do things properly then sorry "we told them so!!" several hundred times actually
oh I just realised......
THERE ARE THESE WARNINGS IN PRETTY MUCH EVERY ROM/ROOTING THREAD IN CAPITALS JUST LIKE THESE

passing what message ? that you have to read instead of getting warned....hold on mate its not kindergarten here ?! hahaha
thread is reported already.....let's hold on for the verdict. I had my say.
all the best
There is very little actual information in this post, and I disagree that it should be made sticky.
You were provided ample warning from HTC when unlocking the bootloader. Regardless, any such mods should never be taken for granted and should always be preceded with thorough research.
If you bothered to research current Samsung devices, you will see that root is truly a one way road. All current and forthcoming Samsung devices have a Knox counter. The Knox counter is an actual physical fuse that is blown when you root, and impossible to change by software.
got the "must read" point across so maybe some use for this thread haha !!
