Screen auto-rotation - ZTE Trek 2 Questions & Answers

I know this is a mostly dead platform, but figured it was worth a shot to ask. My Trek 2 stopped auto-rotating the screen awhile back while it was stock. I had not updated in awhile, so I tossed in an AT&T sim to get it up to date. I did not notice it at first (I use the tablet intermittently) but I am almost certain that update coincided with the screen no longer rotating.
After several months and being tired of manually rotating the screen I took the time to put AOKP on it. Part of my desire was hoping to resolve the screen rotation. It did not. But, I did see a comment in one of the ROM threads where it looked liked someone had the identical issue and it might be related to the software or a minor difference in hardware. Does anyone have any ideas?

Some K88 tablets' auto-rotating only works with MM, not Nougat. Check your current firmware. It will be 7.0.1 or something above 7.0.0, not 6.X.X
The only solution is by flashing K88 back to MM. Sometimes, directly flashing B33 still may not work. So I recommend to flash B31, and then upgrade to B33, but not again to Nougat. Once update to Nougat, then the auto-rotating will not work again. I tried all custom firmware(nougat + oreo), but my K88 auto-rotating is not working with them.
To flash back to B31, you need to install TWRP using jasminetool. And then directly flash B31 stock firmware.

Thanks for chiming in! Any idea what the limitation is? I have LineageOS installed right now, it runs great other than the rotation issue. It looks like all of the custom ROMs are Nougat based, is my only option to go back to stock to get auto-rotation back?

OS replacement vs 'de-bloated' stock ROM?

Scanning the forum today, I came across this:
[ROM] Z.A.D.Mix7 -Stock Base Rom-

It looks like it would solve all the issues I'm having with my A7:
Enable multi-user mode
Enable on-screen buttons
Replace ZTE's built-in apps.
Is this a safer route to go in general than installing Cyanogenmod (when it's ready)? I've got CM on my Nexus 4, and yes, there's nice stuff there that's probably not here, but is a de-bloated stock ROM more likely to be bug-free? More likely for the camera and sound system to work fully? Also, will a debloated ROM allow for OTA updates - or allow for them to be sideloaded? I guess I'm asking, if I were to install this, what would be the procedure to get Nougat once ZTE comes out with it? Wipe and re-flash? Or wait for a de-bloated ZTE nougat ROM and flash that?
In order to flash a ROM on your axon 7 you need to unlock your bootloader which causes your warranty to be void and you can no longer receive OTA updates. Also if you are running a custom ROM you will have to wipe your phone before flashing an OTA update. However if you are running the stock rom you will probably only need to flash the update. I've tried both CyanogenMod and Z.A.DMix7 and honestly Z.A.DMix7 is definitely the way to go. In my experience using Z.A.DMix7 it seemed to be as stable as the stock rim and didn't have any major bugs. The only problem I had with it is that since it it rooted there is no way to log into Snapchat. How ever if you don't want root I think there may be an way to remove root from the ROM however I haven't tried it so I'm not sure if it'll work.
I use the debloated rom with android n-ify, xStana, and gravitybox and it is much better than the stock rom. I haven't tried the cm rom. You would have to flash the stock rom and recovery to get OTA updates.

Is Mirror link working in any custom ROM?

Hi, anyone knows if there is any rom with Mirror link working?
Mirror link is not screen Mirror to the TV. It is the connection to the car MP5 with the USB and you can manage your phone with the car touch screen.
If It doesn't work now but anyone knows if nearly It will be implemented in any rom please say me in which one.
Thanks and regards.
I'm looking into this as well, I've been wanting to install a custom rom such as @Ivan_Meler LOS Rom, but it has pushed my phone to a "Phone is not compatible" reading on the headunit.
Little back story:
I have a Samsung Gal. S7 and a Honda Civic 2015 and I've been able to do Mirrorlink when it was working on a completely stock rom. Only problem was I was trying to mirrorlink the full phone screen and not have to use the Samsung Car mode, Rockscout, etc. I've tried every trick in the book even one which required the phone to be rooted. (AAUnlock and AAMirror) I used SuperSU, whick I should now look into trying Magisk, and see if that makes any difference.
What I've noticed is that once the phone is rooted, even on a stock rom, the Head Unit in my car switches to "Phone is not compatible". Again, I rooted it with SuperSU. I've been able to locate a S7 Stock Rom which I'll go back to and see if I can get that working again. Once that's established, I'll try with Magisk, and see if there's any difference.
So far with every rom I've tried including LOS (most Roms are based from LOS), the phone hasnt worked in mirrorlink. I'm hoping that @Ivan_Meler makes an update that allows it, as it seems his is the only ROM that gets updated on a frequent basis. I'm hoping that this (along with other issues) gets resolved on the Rom and this can become my daily driver.
Hello
Did you manage to make work your S7 mirrorlink with a rooted rom ?
Thanks
It works on omnirom 7.1.2, havent tried it on oreo/pie roms.

If you want to use these old roms, make sure you change the thermals. I highly recommend Jabashque 6, the links are on my thermals thread.
As good as that version of Omni is, Darkobas himself said that longterm use will kill dramatically hurt longterm battery life.
You could use the compatible Blackscreen with the Jabashque thermals and your experience will be perfect.
BY the way, Oreo and Pie Roms are awesome. If you try Pie tryout Lineage 16 its awesome!
Thanks
i want at least oreo, i tried Omni but Mirrorscreen does not work

Camera not working on two of my 580s, when rooted.

I have two of these devices. One for each of my kids. I'm very familiar with rooting various devices, from Amazon Tabs to my Pixel 2xl. I've rooted both of my kids' devices for several reasons. Regardless, the camera app fails to load. It just goes black. I've been strictly messing with Stock Rooted firmware. The latest November Security 8.1 release. I was able to briefly get it working on my daughter's device but now it's not working again.
Has anyone else had this issue or know anything about it?? It is driving me NUTS.
Am I REALLY the only one with this issue? I've tried two methods to get the cameras working. I've set up a straight Stock Rom and then rooted it. I've also flashed TWRP and installed the pre-rooted Oreo Stock ROM found here in the forums. I'd love to try one of the AOSP ROMS buy my wife would have a fit.

SM-T580 screen problem when installing Android 7.0 or 6.0

I have been trying to downgrade my tablet with a custom rom and stock rom.
Everything works perfectly, no issues on the rom, but when I reawake when my screen goes off, the screen just shows line for a second and closes, but the system is on.
These issues don't happen on any version newer than android 8.0.
When I try to downgrade, my main unmodified android version was 8.1.
Is there any fix to this?

Can't imagine why you'd want to downgrade, must be some compelling reason... Lots of folks here using custom 9.0 (pie) roms that kick butt! Still, I don't have a proper answer-- I don't know if you can go back from 8.0 or not. Good luck, hope you get what your looking for.

Wi-Fi does not work on LineageOS 16.0 (Pie 9)

Hi guys,
Everything was working great with LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1), but they have discontinued the support for this version and switched to 16.0, and a FOTA update of Lineage from 15 to 16 isn't possible, so I had to download the zip manually, and flashed it using TWRP, around the end of April. Since then the Wi-Fi does not work.
I should explain what this "does not work" mean: I turn it on (either from the pull-down curtain, or from the Settings -> Network -> Wi-Fi menu), it pretends to switch on for 1-2 seconds, and then the switch turns off by itself, so it doesn't even have time to scan the available networks.
I have tried to burn a newer image again, around the beginning of May, but it didn't fix the Wi-Fi problem. I was googling a lot, but seems like nobody reports such a problem.
Any ideas how to fix it, other than going back to Android 8.1? Preferably I'd like to stay with LOS, but if I have no choice, I can consider moving to RR, or AOSP Extended or whatever.
Thanks!
I think its a boot.img problem. I have seen this error in stock too. The wifi/bluetooth used to turn off immediately after i turned them on and the error was because i flashed the wrong boot.img . If i were you i would clean flash the rom again
What do you mean by "wrong boot.img"? I don't flash any boot.img separately, I just flash the whole LineageOS rom (and then Gapps) from TWRP. Should I flash anything else? I don't think so...
Well, in my case at least the Bluetooth works properly (with both headphones and smart watch).
SOLVED!
Surprisingly, the problem seems to be solved now.
After flashing lineage-16.0-20190426 and later lineage-16.0-20190530 versions, where the Wi-Fi didn't work - today I have flashed lineage-16.0-20190704, and guess what? It is back now!
Thought it should be important to update the thread here.

It would be safer to update to stock pie first then flash custom pie roms..

You mean, even if I upgrade from Lineage 15.1 to 16 I need to flash the stock rom first? Why?
BTW I saw some reports on Wi-Fi problem while going back from custom to stock rom too, and there was some patch suggested to fix it.

Because its a prerequisite on Lineage 16, it depends on parts of stock Pie rom being installed.
The LO16 thread also listed a migration step if you didn't flash the stock Pie rom beforehand.

Probably I have missed it.
Still can't find it neither on "install" nor "update" page:

Its on the xda thread, not on the lineageos website.
Xiaomi made some changes during the upgrade from Oreo->Pie and introduced ARB. Now you cannot downgrade back to Oreo easily. Just flashing back to Oreo(stock or custom rom) will cause the phone to bootloop. For the same reason your phone probably faced issues when you flashed (Pie) LO16 without the Pie firmware.

Well, I did not try to downgrade from Pie to Oreo. All I tried to do was an upgrade from LOS 15.1 to LOS 16 (15.1 worked excellent). And I had no idea I needed to flash the stock rom in between, so I just flashed 16 over 15.1, without wiping the data partition (only wiped dalvik cache).
Can you please point me to the XDA thread you mention, where it says I had to flash the stock rom first?
Anyway, since everything works OK now (or, at least, I don't find any malfunctioning, probably except for the native camera app, so I use an external app), I don't think I should play around with it again, right?

Some parts of the firmware might not be overwritten by LOS/stock depending on the version. The original LO16 used Oreo firmware iirc. The thread is not hard to find, just look for it.
