Fire HD 8 gen 5 - cannot figure out how to root - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm a noob at this, and I cannot figure out how to root this tablet. Assume I know nothing of fastboot, bootloaders, ADB, which buttons on the device to hold for how long. I've been searching every way I know how. KingRoot won't install, neither will any other "easy" root .apk that I have seen.
Any help truly appreciated, there are so many advertisements on this and it is so slow I'm going to have to throw it away. I have got Google Play Store installed and working (most apps work)
Thanks.

Which version of the OS are you running and what happens when you try and install kingroot?

What rooting method did you use? Have you tried z4root from the adndroid market? It seems to be the best and simplest rooting method.

The best and easy way to root is the Z4root. Just install the app, run it, click on Permanent root and you are there after a reboot of the handset (automatic).
You can verify you are rooted successfully by looking for a app called "Superuser" with icon of a android skeleton kind of thing.
The next one is "super1clickroot" method which involves running a program in your PC and using it to root. Search for the above mentioned term and you can find the guide on how to do it.
Hope this helps.

What is your installed apps? Check the permission in your Superuser apps. All apps that need ROOT goes there.

[Q] Question about rooting Kindle Fire

The question I have is quite simple. Does it matter what operating system you use to root the Kindle? I'm using 64bit Windows 7, and just wanted to make sure before attempting root. Thanks for any and all info!
i rooted using win 7 ultimate 64 and it worked fine so it shouldnt matter
Awesome thanks so much! Just wanted to get all my ducks in a row before attempting to brick my new Kindle lol.
Used Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with no problems.
Actually, I lied, I did have 1 problem which will really mess with you (and took me a while to work out how to resolve)! Make sure you don't have Droid Explorer installed.
I don't have any root management tools on my computer, wanting to do the same also on my Motorola Atrix but would freak if I bricked it haha.
Would Droid Explorer work after rooting the Kindle though?

It's possible that it would, but it seems to run adb as a service. You'd potentially have to modify the adb_usb.ini that Droid Explorer uses to include 0x1949. However, can't confirm either way, as I can't be bothered to install Droid Explorer again!
Uninstalling it might have been extreme, as it's possible I could have found the service and stopped/disabled it, but as I didn't use it, there was little point in keeping it there.
Ok, will let you know how it comes this weekend Mainly I can still go by the main Root article on here can't I? Even though the updates have come out, root file and process should still be the same?

Yep, the process hasn't changed despite KF updates. Pretty easy to do as long as follow the instructions to the letter.
Does anyone know if there is an updated process to rooting the Kindle Fire, or is it still the same process as before from November? I know that the Kindle has had an update or two since then, and just wanted to make sure the process was still the same before attempting root?
Nothing has changed... the same rooting methods work with all versions of KF up to 6.2 so far.
Last question before attempt. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for root on Kindle Fire such as backup or anything in case of brick? I would hate to perm brick my new Kindle and be stuck Only thing I can think of is just to copy all of the SDK files from Kindle root source.

Questions should be in Q & A. That's what its there for.
Buying a 900V is a big mistake if your not on Verizon. No, you cannot flash N9005 roms on this device. Your best bet would be installing one of the roms in the development section here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-note-3/development

I don't know if there is a scamware version of Kingo going around or something, but I've never been able to get it to work.
I can use ADB without any problems on my SM-N900V. I then run Kingo and it does nothing, just sits there "waiting" for the devices. Windows Firewall disabled, No AV software, Trying Kingo w/Admin permissions and without. Nothing works.
After wasting hours with this, I finally decided I'd try a vanilla Windows 8 install, nothing on it but Kingo. Still didn't work.
Brought my phone back to my PC, ADB works just fine -- tried Kingo again -- nothing.
...On a related note...
After searching the forums for some time, there is one question I just can't determine definitively:
Can the SM-N900V (Verizon Galaxy Note 3) be truly "unlocked" with a custom recover (or) are we still limited to Safestrap options?
Thank you in advance,
RKM

I had the same problem with Kingo initially. I don't remember how I fixed it, but it was a simple fix.... something stupid. Now it works with no problem.
In regard to the recovery, if you have a retail Note 3 from Verizon you will brick it if you flash a recovery other than safestrap. The bootloader will recognize the recovery is not stock, your knox will void you warranty and the phone will not boot. The only available recovery option for retail is safestrap.

I've tried all of the crazy suggestions that people have claimed will make it work. Setting screen timeout to 10 minutes, allowing untrusted & disabling app inspection, everything.
I can even use ADB directly from the Kingo directory, no problem.
And here's the real kicker .. if I delete the token allowing ADB access to my phone, Kingo will not trigger the phone to prompt for one. So Kingo is *not* even attempting to run ADB.
Not to mention, if you look at the logs, the entire time Kingo is communicating with Chinese servers. Sure, it might not be doing anything to root the phone, but that's not going to stop them from sending loads of data to China in the process.
At this point I think I think I'm best to chalk up the 12+ wasted hours on Kingo and give vRoot a try. What a nightmare, I've never had such a bad experience with an Android tool, whether it be for S-OFF, Rooting, etc.

Any luck with vroot?
I wish you could recall the "something simple" to make Kingo work. Where can I get "Safestrap?"
I just got a Verizon SM-900V with MJE yesterday. I need root to be able to use ARUnchained with my AppRadio 2. I tried Kingo, and it just kept switching between "connecting" and "downloading drivers" it never would connect to the phone. At this point, I'm not to concerned about custom ROMs, nor am I concerned about voiding the warranty. I just need to be able to obtain ROOT without bricking my phone. All of the threads on successful rooting of this device are from around November of last year. So, is there a way to successfully root any more? Thanks in advance!
please help.. I have 900v upgraded to 5.0.1....lost pics and voice recorded files...
please help with my note 3

Fire HD 6 Root success with KingRoot APK

Hi!
Today, while doing my daily reading blogs, I found an article by El Android Libre (in spanish) of an app for rooting Android devices quickly, so I decided to try it on my own and effectively, the application success to root my Fire HD 6!. His name is KingRoot. I'm very excited, it worked, and so far I have not noticed errors in the operation of my tablet (at least, today). I could say that this is the ultimate solution to root the Fire HD 6.
WARNING: This is a Chinese application, so I can not guarantee that it 100% safe to use . IF YOU INSTALL THIS, IT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BUGS, BOOTLOOPS OR SOFTBRICKS..
Antivirus information:
If the antivirus software on your tablet shows this application as a virus, it is evident: for root you device, this app made a series of exploits to the operating system, and obviously the antivirus will display warnings before or during the process
I hope this can be useful to someone.
(Sorry for my English, I am using Google translator)
UPDATE 12-05-2015 02:01 AM
This process is not yet totally safe and we have very little information. Indeed, it is possible to root the Fire HD 6/7, but there's a very high risk of the device is unable to boot.
Unroot instructions:
Open the KingUser app
Press the Settings button (upper right corner)
Then press the "Remove Permission Root" option
Confirm and wait a few minutes.
Reboot
Yay!!! Thank you for posting this, I will try it now
great news! plz report how it goes thx.
Made a quick vid. Thanks for the info! How to Root Fire HD6: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcQ30qcImJc
at last my hd6 is rooted now thx
Trying it on my HD7 now. Are we forced to use the king superuser or can we switch to superSu after?

The SU binary will be saved in the /system/bin folder after rooting the Fire HD 6, so I think that while this binary is not deleted you can use any other app for root management like SuperSu.
Suh-weeeet! Can confirm, works on HD7!
Confirmed, my HD6 (well, my mother's HD6) is now rooted :3
I seem to have lost root on reboot though
Or maybe it's because I un-installed the app?
Now to figure out how to get the Play Store working...

I restarted my Fire several times throughout the day and still root.
What is the app you've uninstalled?
Here is a screenshot of Root Checker on my tablet right now.
Yeah, it's because I uninstalled KingRoot. Need to get SuperSU in here... somehow

Well, I try sideload SuperSu directly on my Fire but when I open it, the app ask me to update the su binaries, and a few seconds later shows me an error...
Any suggestions?
Has anyone successfully installed the Google Play Store?
Unfortunately, no. Android root stuff isn't something I'm too familiar with. I think we've still got a long way to go...
So what does the development road look like from here? Do we need a custom recovery before any roms start coming?
Thanks for this, I am excited to get home and play with my tablet!

I'm wondering how similar this Kindle is to the previous version software wise. Maybe some of the older methods will work now we have root?
This is the situation right now:
It is now possible to root the Fire HD 6 (and 7, as I'm reading)
The root is persistent while you don't uninstall the KingRoot app.
For now, you can not install the SuperSU app (throws an error)
Installing System Tuner Pro gives you the ability to uninstall system applications, review the logs of the kernel, modify the file build.prop, among other things (Other apps can also be used for do this...).
It is not possible (for now) install Gapps until to find an advanced recovery that it works with this tablet. Despite this, you can install some Google apps like YouTube, Google, and Google Search taking an alternative way. Read this thread for more information:
(Yes, there is still road ahead ...)

Lenovo A1000m root help ?

Hey guys.
I've managed to find a couple of videos and tutorials on rooting the A1000 (99% of them using KingRoot), but there's absolutely no info on the A1000m. While it's basically the same phone with a bit less memory, it won't root. I've tried pretty much everything I found on the web with no success. And quite frankly I'm scared to keep going, because I can't find the firmware and if I brick this stupid phone I'll probably have to pay for it, because it's not mine. Not a big deal, it's one of the cheapest devices available in my country, but I'd rather find a way to root it or at least keep it in working condition before returning it to it's owner.
Any help on the matter will be greatly appreciated. Even if all you can do is tell me that it's impossible to root. I just need to be sure, before I return it.

Just needed to know:
Do you tried KingRoot or skipped it because you were scared?
Tried it. And that's the one that scared me. At first it wouldn't work. Someone told me to give it another try and it said the phone was rooted. But it wasn't. All it did was break the playstore and it wouldn't let me download anything. The phone froze and restarted a couple of times... It was a pain in the ass. And the other app that came with it, King User - it wouldn't go away even after a hard reset. I had to install KingRoot again, try rooting it a couple of times until it said it was successful and then do the unroot procedure in King User to get rid of the app.
In my opinion, KingRoot is a total waste of time. Never used it before, don't plan on doing it in the future.
