Cell standby drain - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Questions & Answers

My 9T has the same problem with cell standby drain that many other Xiaomi phones have (google it). Basically, when I look in battery usage under hardware, screen should be highest, it uses about 10-15%. But instead cell standby is highest with 30-40%. The common "fix" is to change mobile network preference to LTE/WCDMA as in https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/fix-battery-drain-mobile-standby-t3883840
But it doesn't do much, the drain is still there. When is this going to be fixed?

Hi, are you moving in your country or always in the same zone ? Do you have a good network signal ? On 3 xiaomi never seen that "drain", during a night my mi9t battery only drop 1 or 2%

Same zone, in a large city with good coverage, all my other android phones with same sim card have normal cell standby drain of a few percent. This is a well known Xiaomi problem, google it. Maybe only in some regions on some versions of phones etc, but still a very well known problem if you google it, and not only on the 9T.

Pretty bad as you can see, normal cell standby drain is 5-10% depending:

I'm having the same issue, even though I have a good signal in my area

your battery is full so your battery reporting doesn't mean anything, you have to wait for a complete use or at least 50%

It is something you installed or something on your setting up the phone.
this phone battery is amazing , trust me it is.
I get screen on times , unthinkable to my previous phones with brightness way way higher
so.. just try to figure out what is eating your batt and why.
edit:
then again you didnt start your battery log with 100% batt
and your drain was due to a very phone cal (?) With screen off, but your network signal suck really bad, maybe is from there ? But even with low coverage I find it hard to imagine that drain.
But then again.. never had low coverage ..
Yeah I can assure you it's something in your settings that is giving you poor life. You didn't give much description of what they are so it's tough for me to help you with what to fix, or how much knowledge you already have. I recommend BetterBatteryStats and Battery Mix for starters.
Install BBS (Better Battery Stats) and find the rogue application that is causing battery drain.
Battery life for me is amazing. I get close to 28-30 hours with mid - heavy usage.

Your signal during this two hour call was awful. Keeping a connection while not using the phone is a battery sucker in these conditions. I imagine it is much more so when you are actually on the phone. I'd suspect that as the culprit, as the radio has to be pumped up to the max constantly, instead of every minute or so.
I had a note 2 on same network and never saw this kind of drain. I think this qualcomm chip is ****. In my settings my cpu was at 2.27ghz for 1 hour 43 mins! Why was my cpu maxed out while making a simple call.?

4.4.2 Battery Life

Just flashed, I can already see it behaving differently. Most notable it will not hold LTE in my house anymore (great).
I an tell you right now this will drain my battery faster its bouncing back and forth, back and forth.
Ugh.
Will report back with battery life.
I made sure I flashed with 100% battery to avoid any issues caused by this (it DOES happen, trust me, ask the devs who worked on the Atrix.)
Seems ok so far though, who knows maybe the radio is much better and uses less power. its been unplugged for like 20 mins and its at 99% with about 5 of those minutes in use. Not bad.
When my blue tooth is off it gets better battery than 4.3 but I can't really tell when BT is on...

My other phone's a Ferrari.

Yep, its been reported from various websites that KitKat completely borks battery usage, especially on Note 3's and Nexus devices. I've gone through three Note 3's as a result and finally gave up troubleshooting and gonna stick with Jelly Beat

Whats your PCMARK..true battery/performance benchmark

Since I see so much Ignorant in the Battery thread, I like to point out (rant) some things..
1. A person 6 hour of Screen On Time usage is different from person to person.
2. Temperature can have a great affect on battery life.
3. Signal strength can have a great affect on battery life.
So with that in mind, I suggest everyone try to do a PC Mark bench, it is fair and give people a much better idea of what of what they should be getting. To do this test here are the few settings you need to set
1. BRIGHTNESS AT 23-25% (EYEBALL IT)
2. Wifi on
3. do not disable Mobile data or sync
4. Clear all RAM before start
below are the CONTROL numbers from a stock rom (pictures are from greenbot.com)

Below is my stat, using arter kernel and foreverloco rom. (I DO UNDERVOLT MY KERNEL) ambient is about 20C
I get what I get based on MY real world usage. I don't need synthetic benchmarks or software to tell me anything. Why do people obsess about this so much?

To see if your phone performing at optimum settings. The problem is there is no set controls or way to bench it properly and this is the way how.
Why this benchmark is useless? Let's say we have two Edge+, under this benchmark CPU on both runs at 1GHz all the time and both last for 8h. Now imagine that one device runs program/service that keeps waking up the device every few minutes and the other goes and stays into deep sleep without any problems. Benchmark might show no difference or just slight difference. In real life 1 device will get 6h sot during 48 h usage, the other one will get 3h sot and run out of juice in less than 24h.
Good benchmark should simulate at least 24h usage with breaks to test standby drain as well.

Battery Life of the S7 Edge?

My S7 Edge Battery life is very strange , I use power saving mode (Mid) with Res set on FHD, and I can say, I maybe last 8 hours or so ? Maybe 4 hours screen on time. If I use the normal mode, the battery drains like hell. Yet, when I use max power saving , I can go hours without 1% dropping off my battery. Is this how the S7 Edges are or is my battery at fault somehow?
Note this was before Oreo and still is the same after.

My battery lasts 17 hours with 4 to 5 hours sot, depends as some days I hardly use my phone as much as other days
You can check your battery cycles and battery health percentage via the app "Phone info - Samsung" in the play store.
I ended up replacing the battery for that extra 5-10%+ from a new battery. Phone lasts a day or two depending on how much I use it, I'm not a heavy user but I do have Wi-Fi, 4G, go on reddit / browse etc). I charge every morning and night so pretty much only get to as low as 60% every day.
Is this original or fake guys

What's up with the battery life and "Cell standby" percentage?

I bought this 9T a few months ago. I think the SOT I had at first was about 10 hours, which is OK but I've seen better, but now after 3 months of usage it barely achieves 5 hours and the "Cell standby" rating—which I'm not sure what it stands for—is always at the top of the battery drainage list.
What's wrong with this phone? This makes no sense.

This is the cell/modem connexion 4G network.
You made use 2 times 20% of heavy data use in very short time (check it on the curve).
Check the same application you did with a wifi connexion because it can be your network 4G that is weak and lead to this heavy drain.
There are some draining problems in Miui lately. Something is causing this, that's the reason I skipped Xiaomi this time after years of using it.
"TechTablets" review of MiNote 10 also confirmed this. Basically you buy a phone with a beefy battery, but not getting the expected battery life.
I tried everything to sort this out, but it wasn't giving me any results. This was not the case with previous Xiaomi devices, like Mi8...

You said "lately". Yes but latest android 10 eu rom have a much better behavior.
Nlp wakelock is almost stopped and standby drain is lower than 0.5%/h (without AOD)
AOD at day consume some 1% additional.
MiNote10 was reported heavy consumer because of the camera needs.
they will improve at Xiaomi, not overnight but surely.
You'll come back to MIUI.
