S7 is getting Pie update according to Samsung support - Samsung Galaxy S7 Guides, News, & Discussion

So I messaged Samsung support yesterday about the S7 and if it's getting Pie and One UI and they responded to me saying that the software devs are working on a Pie-based One UI update but they didn't give me an ETA. So far it looks kinda exciting.

Didn't somebody also say that samsung was working on a Oreo update for the Galaxy S6, but it was false information, because the supporter meant a security update and not a major firmware update. I mean, we already have several One UI ports here, the only people who would benefit are Snapdragon users.

Odd since I asked them yesterday and they said there are no updates confirmed

Just talked to support to see if its true
They didnt say yes to that

Wow really wow, if they make this I have both snapdragon and exynos variant it would be great for one ui to be on both of them

Aren't all of our Pie ROMs fundamentally based on Ivan Meler's LOS 16 beta, though? There simply isn't anyone else who was able or willing to reverse-engineer all of the drivers and take over the, apparently, messed-up device tree left over from LOS 14's last maintainer. The One UI "ports" add the Samsung libraries and SystemUI mods needed to make Samsung stock apps work, but below the application layer, everything I've seen so far is the same. That means that they all share the occasional hard reboot and memory leak issues with Magisk. The further they stray from the original LOS 16 beta, the less stable they get; Havoc for example is an undailyable huge mess with all of its customizable system apps. Some people say it works, but I suspect those are the same super-enthusiasts who've had a ROM of the week since the Gingerbread era, and they're just used enough to instability not to notice it.
The last official ROMs, and the SupermanROM/GalaxyProject stuff based on them, played nicer with Magisk and, if you still care in 2019, *a lot* nicer with Xposed. Never a reboot, not even once, as opposed to LOS 16 rebooting every 3rd or 4th time it connects to Android Auto (the Lockscreen to SmartLock handoff is at fault if I had to guess), and no negative performance impact. Even the N and O LOS ROMs were a lot better. I'd expect the same improved stability and moddability from a ROM ecosystem built around official Pie as we had with Oreo, which would be good for everyone whether Exynos or Snapdragon.

According to the Samsung Members app, it was supposed to launch in August 2019. I contacted Samsung Support and they said that it was happening, but they had no ETA.

I think it was a mistake.
The information from Samsung was removed from their website after a short time.
Is there a creation date for this message, maybe it's just an old message?

According to the Samsung Members app, the notice was posted on Sept. 6th 2019. Here is the link to the screenshot: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnXXk5PX0LXn3wuWqWwNmAV2aoSZ?e=dLSiTI

Sounds great but happy with the rooted Pie. Saving a lots of battery and RAM.

Grace UX has appeared on my Note 5 via OTA (Stock Firmware)

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone has actually noticed this already, or if it's actually a new thing. Long story short, I've been missing the Galaxy Note 7 since returning it to Samsung a few weeks back, and today sprung for a used Galaxy Note 5 (SM-N920K) that was actually a decent price and in basically brand new condition. All the more so given that the hardware never even released here in Japan to begin with.
Anyway, after setting up the device, an OTA began to download. The Note 5 was at the time, running 6.0.1 and had the August Android Security Patch installed. The file download was in excess of 600MB however, and I thought something to be odd given that the September and October patches, even together, couldn't be that large. When the phone rebooted, I was absolutely floored to find none other than the Note 7's Grace UX on the phone. This *includes* the Bluelight Filter in Display Settings for reference, something even the S7 Edge has yet to receive.
When I had checked SamMobile earlier, the update details hadn't even been listed in their firmware, making me wonder if this was just released today? For reference it's Baseband Version N920KKKU2CPI1 and Build MMB29K.N920KKKU2CPJ4. Oddly the Kernel Version has a build date of October 24th.
Have I missed something in the past few weeks of Note-worthy news, or is this a major development?
I can take screen captures if anyone wants to see.
Please post screen shots.

Hopefully this works. I am attaching several screen captures to this post.
So has anyone else received an update like this?
Damn, if this is real, I can't wait. I want Grace UX stock on my note5, custom roms/kernel drains battery too hard :/

This is not a common practice by Samsung, for my experiences with numbers of Samsung flagship models, it doesn't even give a facelift Ui for any of its update firmwares, you want new ui then you have to buy a new device, that's it. !!!
I guess tokyoguy may just be very lucky or Samsung has made a mistake by accident.

Well the thing is that Samsung is currently working on bringing Grace UX to the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge via the Nougat update. So in this case the company is clearly intending to port the design changes. What I'm trying to figure out is if (1) there was some kind of mistake and I did, in fact, get lucky, (2) all the Korean carrier variants have had this update pushed to the devices, or (3) this update has been floating around for a few weeks now and just no one mentioned it.

Well it certainly is real, the question is if it's some kind of mistake and I alone got it, or if all the Korean carrier variants are getting it.
Its officially released by samsung as usual they release it for in the home country n later they push in other countries so chill guys all the variants of note 5 will be getting the update
I think the blue light filter is restricted to note after note 7 fiasco samsung is taking more care of their customers
It was posted on Android Development section a week ago, you can even flash in different model.

Is this good a sign or one that there won't be Nougat for the Note 5 anytime soon?

No there is no AOD option present.
Also if anyone is interested more screen shots were provided to SamMobile for their post on the story.
What about Spen? Any changes? Thanks!
The S-pen settings have been, from what I can tell, changed to those from the Note 7. This means, among other things, that's it's now not possible to modify the sound file played when the stylus is removed or inserted; I never cared for the default option unfortunately.

Android 8.0 is coming! Samsung Official

There is even more I'm sure.
They are not sources, just articles related to the same source already cited here, people from Samsung support center, not the official statement from Samsung.
In this case, seeing is believing. I don't think we'll ever get official statement that Oreo will be supported for S6, it's either it will or it won't, only time will tell. Certainly if it ever comes, it won't be before March or even April.

You are right, they are all using one source, I messed up. Still, they are not saying there's a chance, they are confirming it's gonna happen and they seem confident. I'm sold. If it doesn't happen then I won't consider them a viable source of information anymore.

I'm still not convinced. It might even be that they plan to update it to Oreo, only to be cancelled at some point.

May I know what website is that? Thanks
Although I'm not sure if this is going to be real, it's technically possible. There's a phone called Galaxy A8 2016. Since the 2015 models of Galaxy A Series got Nougat, that device would almost certainly get Oreo, and it has similar specs to the S6 (Exynos 7420, 3GB RAM). It wouldn't be too much of a job for Samsung to support S6 too.
Maybe we could port Oreo from the A8 2016 if Samsung chooses not to push Oreo for S6..
Guys don't be so pessimistic...
The Galaxy S6 is still a very good and strong device. It is a Milestone and it deserves Android 8.0. They are probably updating it to 8.0 because they want to Change their update polity and thats really great. Be happy, at least they consider to update the device and do not cancel the update. They also could have said "No the S6 won't receive 8.0" but they didnt!

Thanks a lot mate :good:
Oooo such intresting news about new software update. Galaxy s6 will may get android 8 oreo.
I have a perfect matched gif for this
Why samsung need to waist extra time and resources on a such "failed" device when they already are orientated at quantity instead of software sussport ? Battery is terrible, probably 50% of users already in 1/2 years of use switched to other device, like galaxy s7 or s8 or other one with better battery. Because.. I truly believe a lot of users was like , - pissed of with 3-4 max hours screen on time.
There is no point for them to do this. When they already released a lot of new devices with new android version etc and also with upgrades like biger batterys, galaxy s7 etc. As samsung stated, they provide 2 years of software updates. Thats it. So they what ? Changed theyr update policy somehow ? Where updates then, refreshed policy about this that they changed theyr own rules ? No official news from samsung, nothing.
Samsung turkey, samsung other or else etc.. who cares about them ? Samsung turkey once stated about nougat update when s6 will get and they lied about date when it will release, delayed a lot. And now states about oreo ? Haha.
I dont believe either of them. They just writing what they want witchout any facts or confirms. Again.. - rumors without trusted source.

Haha! What an ignorant guy. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 and battery is fine I get 6-8hrs SOT. Don't know what your on about. There is point for them to do this as they wan't to support their devices for more than 2 years to remain competitive with the like of Google and Apple. Yeah Samsung Turkey lied about the date but hey Nougat still came! I think Samsung CS counts as trusted sources, verified by multiple reps in many different countries!

Galaxy Tab S2 (2015&2016) - Official Android 8.0 Oreo Update News

Hey guys!
I don't know if you already heard it but the Galaxy S6 lineup will probably receive Android 8.0. Many Samsung employees confirmed that and there is already a leaked list of devices which will get the update. Today I noticed that not only the S6 was mentioned on that list... the Galaxy Tab S2 will probably receive the update as well! In my opinion it is really great to see that the first premium devices from Samsung will get another update

Maybe we will get Samsung Experience 9.0 with the update. It would be very great to get some S8/S9 UI feauters
If Samsung's track record holds of two major version updates per flagship device, the 2016 Tab S2 should get Oreo. The 2015 may or may not - I guess it depends on whether Sammy is feeling generous.
I'm not sure who would hope their device doesn't get the update? While it's possible Samsung could pull an Apple stunt and kill performance with an Oreo update, that generally hasn't been an issue. In reality, it will just be security patches and support for newer apps. The days of new Android versions bringing sea changes of improvements appear to be in the past.

I agree Samsung seem to give 2 major updates to their flagships and higher spec devices.
The S2(2) should get Oreo. I'd say unlikely the S2(1)will see it.
As a 2015 owner, all I want for the last major update is a stable build without any major bugs. From then on, I'd just like the same build with the security updates. The current Nougat is pretty solid but the screen brightness does keep going up and down on some occasions.
i would love to see something for the 819N, i mean there isn't even any custom roms for that version of the tablet, i hope at least samsung goes oreo for it.

Probably 2016 model can hope for it because it has been shipped with 6.0 and also is not sure...but 2015 model should kill the idea because has been shipped with 5.0.1. Even if we could run oreo Sammy will never give a third major update to a 2015 device, even if the only difference between 2015 and 2016 is the CPU (correct me if i'm wrong)
I think it's crazy how Samsumg abandons its own products. I can understand their budget devices getting updates, but this is their only tablet line. Not to mention they were selling these for $400+ a pop (i got mine out of a pricing error for $200 though).
Just shows you that iPad should be the only tablet product to purchase from here on out... I think the last year and a couple months I've owned this it's been updated a whopping 3 times! Never again will I buy Samsung.

The Sound Mod(fir dual speakers), GRX V8(touchwiz mod), Wings 968 Fonts, xposed framework(FireFds Kit and Flat Style Bar Indicators, the modules I'm using), UX9(some S9 apps), Note8 Live Messages and a few apps I use are Csc Features and Faster GPS. I'm happy now the only mod I can't find is dual audio(bluetooth). Just thought I'd share whats working for me.

---------- Post added at 10:44 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 PM ----------
release year that's what important us
They handle the FE as a 'new' device , it comes with 7.0 out of the box so 2 major updates i guess is oreo plus any sweeties starting with P. Practically it means a note7 with 3 major updates since they were dicking around for a year before they released the FE
But Note FE is not treated like any of the flagship Galaxy S/Note devices. Already now it only receives security updates on a quarterly basis. So 2 major updates is veeery unlikely. I'm even in doubt about Oreo. I do hope, and chances are rather good. But look at some other Samsungs that failed to get even a promised update.
We should be more than happy for Oreo update even if it comes in 2019. The security updates will eventually stop post 2018. It is a sinking ship and we all knew it before we jumped on board.
Look guys i would be still happy to use my n7 if my imei wasnt blacklisted... so i am quite happy with any updates but if there are no updates thats fine foe me too. The phone knows everything I need.

Exactly. The single-SIM version hasn't even received the January security updates. But hardware-wise it's the best phone out there at the moment for me (or maybe I need to talk myself out of buyer's remorse, having bought mine just 2 weeks ago):
-no weird 18.5:9 aspect ratio
-front-mounted finger-print sensor
-home button
-Qi-charging
-Samsung keyboard is the best keyboard in my opinion
could have more internal memory (or dedicated SD slot). And the change to Exynos probably means we'll not get much from custom ROMs. I'm happy with the device right now and it was more or less what I wanted, at a still reasonable price. But probably the next one will be from Huawei.
Sorry for drifting too much OT.
i doubt for P update...

i doubt for P update and it'll be a big surprise if somehow we get treble enable on Oreo update, because core structure for treble is based on different storage partition, if they release OTA to change that partition then it might brick dozens of phones if i'm not mistaken.
and I believe Oreo will be 2nd major update for FE as its based on 2016 model.

I was holding off rooting waiting for Oreo but couldn't wait any longer. I'm now rooted and modded to my liking. It almost feels like a custom rom now. The mods I have done are.

U11 Slice of Pie

With the August HTC announcement via Twitter that the U11 will receive Android 9.0 (Pie), wanted to get a specific Pie discussion going. I'm aware of the Software Update thread, etc,... but this is U11 PIE specific here.
Me personally. I'm hoping PIE brings a radio firmware update as well. I never got my Oreo VZW SMS issues resolved other than to stick with 7.1.1 until something comes along that works. And I don't like not having the latest security patches.
So that brings me to the next point. Hopefully PIE fulfills the promise of decoupling security updates from firmware and software updates. i.e., be able to always implement the latest security patches for that version of Android, regardless if the OEM provides updates or not. Here's to hoping.
Anyways, I know there are some PIE based ROMs out there, but hopefully when the first official HTC released PIE update hits the street, you'll hear it here first.
Cheers
1st of all, do you both have a history? or I'm the only one who feel this way.
2nd, Currently there is a Pie ROM here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/development/rom-slim7-t3855041), try if you want
For me, I'm not so excited with HTC U11 official PIE release, since the U11 has capacitive keys so they cannot have or evolve to a way we can have gesture or something like that.
What I'm more looking forward to is all the custom ROM which will come after the official release !
So that brings me to the next point. Hopefully PIE fulfills the promise of decoupling security updates from firmware and software updates. i.e., be able to always implement the latest security patches for that version of Android, regardless if the OEM provides updates or not. Here's to hoping.

I'm debating if I should wait for pie or get a pixel 3xl. I have 2 U11's and one I got for free. With the black Friday deal on Verizon I won't even lose money. The question is HTC or Google Pie...
Me 2. But the boss may not be pleased I get another phone after a year.haha. Next phone pixel for me. Our phones are as important as our computers these days. She is apple fan too and she has told me a few times get an iphone over the years . Sure rip off to start but it gets updated for years. Despite this I like the flexibility of Android so pay extra for the pixel and get security updates.
When they announced we were going to be getting Pie on Twitter they stated 'Timeframes for roll-out will be announced in due course'. Has anyone heard anything about the roll-out as that statement was made three months ago?!
In this case "in due course" translates to "we have no plans".
I haven't seen any new information about Pie for the U11 since this announcement, and don't expect Pie in 2018.
Maybe in early 2019 ? But even that isn't sure.
Maybe HTC will close down before releasing it.

That's what I think. I did email HTC Support (waste of time) who advised me to go to settings and check for update! As much as I like this phone it will be my last HTC as they do not supply any after-sales customer care whatsoever!
i have similar sympathies. Up until now all of my phones except for one have been HTC devices but I have a feeling the company can't keep up anymore. Sense hasn't had a decent upgrade in ages. HTC apps like dialer look and work dated and now updates also take way too long. I remember that at some point they said 90 days (back in the Lollipop days) after a new android release and that would put Pie in November but we haven't even had a proper leak yet.
Unless they come out punching hard with the next model I'm afraid this has been it for me and HTC and I'll move maybe to the Sammy camp or something.
Other than the lack of updates, its a great phone, my minor issue is how bluetooth is handled when compared to my last phone (lg v20 ) which got water damaged. With the Lg v20 you could have 2 bluetooth devices connected at the same time. So in car you not need to worry if you had your headset connected if you got a call. Its a minor issue but a annoying you have to remember to turn off your watch (i got a huawei band 2 watch you can take calls on).
Anyway back on topic, I wonder Pie would add this feature or not so if you got a call you can take it on any of the two bluetooth devices.
Since the rumor that HTC was canceling early 2019 flagship phone, I think that may have some influences on Pie.

They said they're focusing on 5G phones
Well I got it all wrong.
Thank you for contacting HTC! We know how important your security means for you. We apologize as we do not have an information as to when security patches will be released. Manufacturers often wait for Google to deliver the available patches as they are the ones to roll out these updates. Its googles fault, they are waiting for them previously when I asked it was the telco but it is never htc fault.

The firmware for the U11 life can't be that much different from the U11. We may get it quicker than we think?

No, we won't
U11 Life is an Android One device.

Is absolutely different. The life version is an "android one" device.
Is normal, as expected, that the u11 life get first the updates.
Now, should update the u12+, then the u11+ and the last the u11. If we get the update on February I would say that we are lucky.

U11 life has 2 version:
1 version with HTC software, officially not getting Pie, and will never get
1 version in the Android One program, so it get updated to Android Pie
Don't mess both version, because they are never the same .
