I have tried any and all 1 clicks i could find, attempted all old hacks i have from older root methods.
The only things i haven't tried are
• Exploits i did not find searching past 2 weeks every night for hours
• Anything that downgrades any software on phone
• Anything that installs custom recoveries
I am willing to downgrade and use an app like towelroot if it is possible, but with my firmware being from 2015, i'd be worried in following any downgrade methods (what few i have found for this phone) since none of them mention the ability to do it w/oa1.
to be honest, with such limited support for this phone in Google (especially since a 2015 kernel) I'm kind of scared doing anything major with it =/... I got the phone about 2 weeks ago, and have been trying to root it from day 1. The phone was a $0.99 phone from cricket to bribe me into staying with them( they just changed to GSM and screwed everyone over who had purchased a new phone recently, another story for a never to talk about time)
I would prefer to not trip Knox, but if it's a must then.... well... it's a must, isn't it...

And I had my phone rooted but the updates kept popping up and I wasn't sure how to disable them. I have platinum backup but I just read about "Freeze" option. Unfortunately, I can't use it anymore because I don't have root access. I think my phone partially updated, for the 5.0. It did restart and optimize some settings but I can't use the playstore anymore, and I don't have any SuperSu.
I'm not sure if I should just go ahead and update it since I don't have any other option to use the play store, or is it possible if i can just re-root it based on the 4.4.4?
This was my 1st time rooting it, I used to have an iPhone so I tried to supply as much info as I could.

I just recently got Galaxy S5 which appears to be only sold in Japan. There's some custom firmware installed on it which prevents Android to be updated. Phone doesn't have SIM locked, so any SIM card can be used.

I'd like to completely wipe this firmware from the device, replace it with the latest Android version (6.0?) and root it. At first I'd like to know if it's even possible to do any kind of firmware changes on this model and what exactly do I need to perform the update/root.

Doesn't look like there is a 6.0 stock ROM for it, but you can upgrade to 5.0 here

Okay, instructions on updato seems quite easy to follow so that shouldnt be a problem. Is there any recommended tool for root? I've found a lot of them and I really don't want to mess something up.
PS: How come there's no stock ROM for 6.0 even tho it's been mentioned in some articles that SCL23 model is also supported by Marshmallow update?

Okay, update to 5.0 passed without any issues. There are some default japanese applications on the phone which I cannot uninstall, is it possible to get rid of those somehow?

Go to this link & download 4.4.2 then follow this tutorial.
Make sure to use key input from the options & use capital letters where needed. All being well you will have everything working again.
Make sure not to use any download manager for the download link. File gets about 100kbps so it'll take a few hours but you will get it.
I did the above then rooted the phone & flashed correct TWRP version to it then flashed 5.0 Lollipop SpaceX rom here. Everything working good & no loss of service on reset or reboot.

Aight, so a couple of weeks ago I decided to finally accept the update that I always skipped, that pesky Android OREO (8.0) update was always harassing my notification panel and I finally decided to accept it and just update. What could go wrong?
After I updated, and saw that a few features were cool, I noticed something...
My phone was not charging even though it was connected to the charger. I tried airplane mode, I tried maximum power saving mode, I tried safe mode, I turned it off and nothing happened. It just didn't want to charge; some might say that it's just a battery issue, but I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
This happened right after I updated my lovely Nougat to Oreo.
So now I need help.

The thing is, I know that I'm going to have to root it in order to install a previous Android version (downgrade). I just don't want to take any risks with flashing the wrong firmware for my specific phone; I don't want to brick it.
So, can y'all please help me with choosing the right -my phone specific- firmware and stuff?
Giving me a step-by-step on how to successfully downgrade back to my 7.0 nougat would be a blessing too.

I cannot believe the charging problem is caused by Oreo. Try different chargers, and new USB cables. Google the issue to see if it's related to Oreo. If you are absolutely sure this is due to Oreo, then you may change it and root is not required.
Since the phone is still on bootloader 6, you may be able to downgrade to Nougat with the same version of bootloader. Flashing firmware is a complex process and phone may be easily bricked if anything goes wrong, so you need to understand what you are doing exactly. I would suggest to read thoroughly information related to Samsung Galaxy firmware update using Odin software. I usually get s7 firmware from two sites:

Well, ironically, my mother got a new -android- phone a couple of days ago and my phone charges pretty fine with her charger. I guess it WAS a charger problem, but my charger works perfectly fine on my father's phone and not on mine; strange.
The thing is, although it can now charge, the super battery drainage is still there, and yes, I'm convinced the quick battery drainage problem came along with the Oreo update. It lasted hours and hours on Nougat, but now on Oreo it barely gets to 3 hours and 30 minutes.

It's been a headache ever since I've updated my phone--freezing, apps quitting... yea, you name it. Reset it to factory settings, but no improvement. Wasn't a problem before the update and I know OS updates can burden the hardware.
