Can't flash vbmeta.img - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I used both Powershell and CMD. I entered the correct command: fastboot --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
But the error says: "C:\adb\fastboot.exe: unknown option -- disable-verity"

Try this : fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

this.

it won't, nobody knows how to make --disable command work huh

This is the right command .
fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

That says unknown option ---disable-verity.

Neither this --> fastboot --disable-verity --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img

This did not work for my Redmi Note 10s. why so?

not working

The command is [only for Windows] NOT FOR LINUX.
fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta-sign.img --disable-verity --disable-verification
u entered it wrong ie fastboot --disable-verification --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
If it stuck at writing vbmeta then u need a custom signed vbmeta image

fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img, not working for me though: fastboot flash vbmeta vbmeta.img worked for me on a Lenovo tablet. The only problem was that when I installed custom ROM I have had a bootloop on Lenovo logo twice and then booted on TWRP and not on custom ROM... Any ideas?

Heard that there are two Oct updates, may I know if yours is the latest?
.15 is the second (latest) October update.
Guys, my phone is currently in august update (and I've unlocked and rooted the device with Magisk to enable camera api 2). What should I do to OTA successfully and safely? Thanks in advance!
Can't flash through miui flasher. Is it possible to flash this through recovery?
Are U tested?
I tested, it worked. Updated to Oct update thru fast boot.
There's a minor glitch - you have to remove the space of the folder name, otherwise windows cannot find correct folder location.

I researched for such a long time on this, I'm exactly the same in your situation, rooted with magisk, camera2api substratum things like that on august patch.
Later on i figured myself a way to update without losing any data or wiping the phone which is :
1. download the full stock rom of august patch, it should be tgz files, extract it.
2. Make sure u got adb fastboot all the stuff installed on pc, and also mi a2 drivers.
3. On the phone, go to developer options and turn on usb debugging, guess u already done it since you rooted the phone.
4 now connect the phone to pc in fastboot mode.
5. After extract the tgz august stock rom, locate to folder "image".
6. Hold shift and right click open cmd or in my case open windows power shell.
7. Type fastboot devices to see if your phone is connected properly.
8. Paste these codes and hit enter.
9. After that the phone will be rebooted and after success booting go to settings > system update and start installing the ota without issues.
The codes :
fastboot flash bluetooth_a bluetooth.img
fastboot flash bluetooth_b bluetooth.img
fastboot flash devcfg_a devcfg.img
fastboot flash devcfg_b devcfg.img
fastboot flash dsp_a dsp.img
fastboot flash dsp_b dsp.img

fastboot flash cmnlib_a cmnlib.img
fastboot flash cmnlib_b cmnlib.img
fastboot flash abl_a abl.elf
fastboot flash abl_b abl.elf
fastboot flash boot_a boot.img
fastboot flash boot_b boot.img
fastboot flash system_a system.img
fastboot flash system_b system.img
fastboot flash vendor_a vendor.img

fastboot flash splash splash.img
fastboot flash mdtpsecapp_a mdtpsecapp.img
fastboot flash mdtpsecapp_b mdtpsecapp.img
fastboot flash storsec storsec.mbn
fastboot reboot
Guess that every patches on mi a2 will work with thus method, haven't tested with any version other than august patch. Let me know if it's work !

If you don't want to lose any data but still wanna update, remove line "fastboot....userdata.img"

Some guys are related boot loop in all methods.
I suggest you try again slowly
I also ended up on bootloop first time. It seems that the problem was that I was using fastboot with powershell.
So if I get the error in system I should NOT try flashing system again, but just ignore it and continue with vendor?
Get bootloop. I flashed this twice and failed to boot
Worked perfectly. For those who have trouble: Make sure to wait (EVEN 10MIN IF IT'S NECESSARY) after flashing both system_a and system_b as vendor_a and vendor_b. DO NOT CLOSE CMD. Make sure to use CMD and not PowerShell. If after fastboot reboot the phone shows a flashing black screen after the Android One logo DO NOT PANIC! AFTER A WHILE IT BOOTS UP NORMALLY.

So I have successfully installed LineageOS 17 gsi I downloaded here. => https://sourceforge.net/projects/andyyan-gsi/files/lineage-17.0/
flashed using these command and using stock vbmeta.img
fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash system name_of_your_gsi.img
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
it boots, kinda, it gets passed the boot animation but sticks. the only thing I can get to show is the power menu....it just has a black screen, any ideas?
I initially tried the first file lineage-17.0-20191117-UNOFFICIAL-treble_arm64_bvN.img.xz. the second doesn't install to the correct path

Try issuing this adb command during boot:
adb shell setprop debug.stagefright.ccodec 0
Thats what i did to make phh aosp gsi boot. I also flashed vbmeta with the --disable-verity and --disable-verification options.

Question Unable to install any updates

Okay so, I did root and downgraded to acquire call recording and root. Then I upgrading using the fastboot method. Locked up the critical partition but left the bootloader unlocked.
There is an update for the 2.5.3 I'm on but I cannot apply it through the official update method or the dialer method !
I've flashed both partitions with the same ROM. It is the global version I have.
What am I missing here ?
Thanks in advance.

I can try adb sideload again but I have my doubts.

Shattered tool (an alternative could be to download from the 1.1.4 fastboot rom from https://reindex-ot.github.io/ and use the cmd commands i posted you a few days ago)
every link is working and you should already setup platform tools.
What you are trying to download what is not working?
Edit: All you need is the 1.1.4 Global super.img and and 1.1.4 fastboot global rom.
You need this code to flash the images, obviously you need to edit the lines to fit your file path. Since you are an experienced user this should not be a problem.

I checked every link and all are downloadable.
Super.img
Shattered tool (an alternative could be to download from the 1.1.4 fastboot rom from https://reindex-ot.github.io/ and use the cmd commands i posted you a few days ago)
every link is working and you should already setup platform tools.
What you are trying to download what is not working?

Thanks. Yeah, I've looked a that. But I compared both files and don't see any differences in the batch files. SO I'm wondering ... how is this better ?

Which two batch files? They will flash the super.img and ALL other partitions. The code i posted will flash BOTH slots.
You need a way to completely flash and start over. This is the way.

So whats the problem now?
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Flash super.img
3. Flash fastboot rom to both slots.
4. Relockk bootloader or boot to android.

Edit: All you need is the 1.1.4 Global super.img and and 1.1.4 fastboot global rom.
You need this code to flash the images, obviously you need to edit the lines to fit your file path. Since you are an experienced user this should not be a problem.
Code:
cd /d F:\Android\NothingPhone1\Other\platform-tools_r33.0.2-windows
fastboot -w
