Turned off the 90 Hz refresh rate option as soon as I received the Pixel 4. Sometimes the scrolling is a bit jerky (more than my other 60 fps devices), but not bad. I just contribute it to "getting settled".

I know what you mean it can be a little jerky hopefully that can be fixed on further updates

I force 90hz
I think its smoother than my op7pro go figure
I just hope Google can compare with the fluidity of the OnePlus

I forced 90 since day 1, don't really see such a huge issue with battery life, the phone has been buttery smooth.

It can be smooth i.e transitions
But the fluidity of operations doesn't equal screen smoothness
I.e opening chrome is smoother on my pixel but on my op it looks more fluid because it just opens faster and I'm not looking at a white screen for a split second.
My OnePlus 7 pro multi tasks better, swapping apps via quick swipe is more fluid (seemless) on op7pro but the pixel is smoother visually
Sorry I didn't clarify
Tbh I prefer the smoothness of the pixel, but having smoothness and fluidity would be better

This should help you get what your looking for..
Right at the beginning of the video.... I've tried it and it makes a nice difference, and add that with smooth display and you got a really smooth and fast experience.

The Smooth Display is more consistent now regardless of the brightness by the way.

Sounds premature to do that. You've restarted of course right? Is it reproduceable anywhere else? I saw some stuttering on Amazon on a specific comparison part and now it's not doing it.

Same problem here, although it does not seem to be a widespread issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-4-xl/help/stuttering-scrolling-t3996531

Mate, do you still have this problem? Believe it or not, I've been plagued with this problem as well. It only happens in the pixel live wallpaper app. I have rma'd twice but still have the scrolling lag. I have done a factory reset. It doesn't happen when you first set up the phone. It is so bizarre.

Yeah I notice it in play store, more than on other phones and I tested side by side...I think emui favors battery life for general usage over high performance (even in performance mode)

Google plus is smooth !! Then it is having great performance.
As a habitual thing, I won't open it because of its slowness. I would hide it anywhere so that I wont open it even accidentally.
I enabled performance mode in battery options and I noticed it's much smoother. Google now would have e micro stutters and now it's as smooth as silk
Yea it's not as smooth as my Nexus 5x, but the battery life is nearly 100% more. So in my opinion worth the sacrifice.

How about you guys?
Is it just me or are there minor stuttering here and there.
My earlier 3t and U11 and even MiA1 were much much smoother.

Do I need to replace the unit or get a refund.

That is not the only issue bugging me. There is the inability to reply to messages from the notification panel itself. Every time I tap on reply to any whatsapp message. It opens the app instead.
This is definitely another bug. Phone itself is fine, but I am regretting not buying the amoled 5T. Since the price was not the factor.

I'm experiencing the same, might be an issue of poor GPU optimization
it is due to optimization, qualcomn tends to get better support because many phone is using it.
while kirin 970 is a new soc, so it need some time.
the same thing also happen to samsung exynos or mediatek Soc.
Today I bought OnePlus 5t after 2 months of using honor view 10. Because I'm tired of lags.
OnePlus 5t works like a rocket. Scrolling is very smooth. Almost like iOS.
I will sell Honor view 10.
I'm testing my new honor view 10, I'm loving it except for the delay in the scroll. the finger need to slide 4mm before the scroll follows the movement.
this happens on all apps and uis.
Upon checking the display pointer option in the dev menu, touch is registered, it's just the screen not scrolling straight away.
are you experiencing the same? how do you improve scroll responsiveness?
I'm on bkl-l09

No at all. Stock android uses material design guide. System looks consistent.
EMUI have own design, own fonts, own elements sizes, etc. EMUI tries to look like iOS.
But it is ugly, non consistent.

I have my P20 pro since yesterday... These reviews on the internet are a joke!!!! This phone is one of the baddest phone I ever had. And I had a lot of phones!
Every damn animations are sluggish, lags and sometimes even freeze! My galaxy S7 was performing way better... And I hate Samsung... I reset the device more than three times. Since the first screen of setup when choosing language the animation seems to be at 24 fps... What a joke! Probably going back to a pixel 2 xl. The overall speed, opening and switching between apps is great but damn these animations... No more chinese rubbish!

Ok guys, record your screens and show us how smooth your P20 PRO are!?!?
Because without your approval, our lives will be incomplete
Relax dude. My phone is perfectly smooth and this is me coming from a pixel 2. If you don't like it, return it.
But WTF... I'm just saying that this phone has a lot of stutter in its animations. I'll go check on another P20 pro in a shop to see if the problem is only on mine. I had a pixel 2 xl too and the overall impression of smoothness was way better. It will be more constructive to record other videos to prove your affirmation... But anyway...

I usually just lurk in these threads, but I also have this problem.
Overall phone speed is fine, but there are a few things that just seem to be REALLY slow.
Scrolling speed in apps is mostly fine, but system animations seem to stutter. Switching between apps, going back to Homescreen, etc.
Doesn't sound like much, but it really diminishes the experience

I've not had the same issues as you yet (touches wood) but if you unlock developer options you can change the animation speed from x1 to .05 or lower. I have mine set to x0.5 which makes menu transitions feel snappier

Fast as predicted!
people coming from pixel 2 or pixel 2 xl, hell even from first generation pixel please dont compare any other android to them when it come to smoothness, they are even smoother than an iPhone !!!
i had the same issue with Mate 10, i made sure that i stopped most of the background apps (go to battery then launch then disable all except what u need like social media and emails) and i didnt have a problem since, although its a QHD screen with only 4gb of RAM
and trust me, these freakishly huawei devices just gets better and faster with time even before the AI era , it is just how EMUI works
so yeah, if u want the camera, the phenomenal battery life infrared and the TV thing then keep it, otherwise seriously the Pixel 2 is just better in every single way

When we have both devices side by side you can't ask us not compare and I'm finding very little difference.
This is my first pixel device and I don't see what all the fuss was about, it has stutters too and the battery life yoyos after every update.
For me so far this device is just as responsive however I'm not saying other people aren't experiencing issues, videos have been posted and I can clearly see it but for me it's just as fast and no google maps problems like I've seen others have (still not denying this, there's kinks out there)
This is release software, give them time to throw out updates.
You for example also say the pixel is the smoothest phone out there but I had PLENTY of hiccups with mine and no amount of updates or flashing fixed it, infact it just got worse and i had to go through 2 units with different issues, this was to replace the latest unit where the proximity sensor is now busted and the phone doesn't wake up after a call without a reboot.
Every time you replace the unit you risk getting one with bad blue tint and it's just not worth all the effort, for me this is an upgrade in every way but screen resolution which is definitely not a deal breaker.
In my experience the p20 pro is very responsive, but the scrolling does stutter quite a bit. Perhaps due to weak GPU and worse software optimisation?
Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
I have a feeling that there are already different versions of the firmware available or preinstalled, thats why some ppl have hiccups and some dont. I know someone from UK who has the stuttering in Google Maps. But one in Germany who doesn't. Just wait a few days, a first update will come soon.
I've both the P20 Pro and the Pixel 2XL and yes the stock experience is smoother on the Pixel, I've not attempted to improve the P20 yet though. But never expected it to be as smooth anyway.

LAG! :'(

Just got my OP6T yesterday and I'm getting lots of lag. Mostly scrolling lag when I'm scrolling slow through the app drawer, play store, etc. (fast scrolling is always smooth) I've also experienced lag in general while using the launcher and just doing normal functions. This is my first OnePlus device and I've always heard they are super smooth with no lag and so far this has not been the case for me.
Is my device defective? Is there some known issue I can fix? I don't want to have to return it but I don't want a laggy phone either.
(UPDATE) The cause for the lag seems to be gesture navigation and also immersive mode via a third party app (immersive mode is not a feature within the device but can be accessed by apps even without root). I've been using gesture navigation since I bought the phone and have had scrolling lag the whole time. I switched to the traditional 3 button nav last night and the lag was gone. Another user reported they are having terrible lag issues while using immersive mode but once they disable it the lag is completely gone.
Did you install any apps yet? Note most 3rd party apps are not fully well versed on Android 9.
Try updating to 9.0.5 and see if the problem persist. When I received the phone, I turned animation scale off. You can try that and see if you still notice lag.
You may have a defective one. Mine is extremely smooth. Dare I say it might be the smoothest Android experience I've ever had.

Yes, I've installed my normal apps which is only like 30. I'm not a big app user so don't have tons and all those I use have worked good on pie for some time. I also have a Pixel 2XL and have been on Pie since the second beta last spring.

I also have a Pixel 2XL and didn't notice the lags I'm getting on the OP6T. I'm currently troubleshooting to see if I can find a solution.
I have not experienced one time lag as I can remember last days. I updated to latest firmware straight away
I'm on 9.0.4 - not done anything at all with it, and it's as fast as anything. If it's like that out of the box then it sounds like you've got a defective device.
I'm also getting stuttery scrolling on most apps. Came from Pixel 2xl and it was smoother than this. Should I be concerned I have a faulty device? My first one plus phone as well. It's not bad enough to bail on device but is definitely noticable and annoying.
Omg what's goin on in here, i came straight from pixel 2 xl and 6t feeeeels far more smooth than pixel, its blazing fast,

Don't get me wrong. This thing is way faster than the p2xl. Its just when I'm scrolling slowly reading on different apps, it misses here and there. Stuttery scrolling. It seems a little better after the update. I was scrolling on Zedge and it was like it was 10 fps..

I installed ElementalX kernel and so far it seems to have fixed the stutter while scrolling. I'm paying close attention and if it keeps up I'll be returning it for another device. The only reason I'm stressing it so much is one of the main reasons I bought it is because for years the OnePlus devices have been praised for being super smooth, fast, with no UI lag. Lag, frame drops, stutter, and UI faults of any sort bother me greatly. My Pixel2XL has had a bit of lag here and there but overall it's been smooth and pleasant to use so I can't handle anything less.

I changed all the cpu cores to their max frequency but left the governors default. That is it. Battery life seems the same.
I will say also that I noticed within EX Kernel Manager that the CPU cores were running very low frequencies by default which makes me wonder if for some reason my device had drastically underclocked cores. The max frequency I was seeing on any cores was 1.7GHz.

Yea, I think that's the problem since the cpu is designed to go to 2.8GHz on the main cores. For whatever reason mine were never going above 1.7. I'm hoping some custom ROMs and kernels will resolve this issue.

Scrolling smoothness

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Samsung Galaxy S10 under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
As far now, I didn't notice any lags during scrolling and Even when I do Multi-tasking. Phone keeps more apps in memory.

Yes the phone performs well and good.
Smoothest Android experience I've ever had yet and I used Huawei EMUI 8 before, which is also extremeley smooth.
Stock Android doesn't run as smooth as EMUI or ONE UI do.
Only iOS runs smoother, but I thinks it's also the touch implementaion into iOS, not only optimized software.
I had an S7 as a work phone until last year and this was so terrible to work with. It lagged everywhere. Samsung made a huge effort with One UI.
The only time I've noticed some stutter is the odd time when swiping down the notification shade on the lock screen. Even then, it's been very rare.
S10 scrolling is okay, iOS still has the great scrolling experience I've had. I hope Android or maybe Samsung can mimic that scrolling behavior.
I used an iPhone X before and with my new S10 the scrolling feels really strange. I also tested it on a S9 of a fried and there it is the same.
It definetily is really smooth, but if you flick scroll for example in Instagram and you want to stop scrolling with tap-holding the screen again, then there is a small delay. Also the scroll speed is very strange in my opinion. Does somebody have the same issue?
The scrolling on my iPhone X definetily feels more natural.
Does somebody also noticed a small stutter when scrolling through the YouTube feed? Same with reddit.
Yes! I did, but on a 10e and only sometimes. Its the same in Nova App Drawer and Whatsapp for instance.
Maybe I'm tripping and also I've read that now every app uses gpu to draw 2D but maybe you should tell me your experience with this option enabled in devs options.

I'm so glad I found this thread. This problem is driving me nuts.
On Verizon S10.
Mine is doing fine. I think the reason is more ram compared to the samsung S8 I had. More ram maybe indicates we see few years of updates for the S10.
Mine is choppy and laggy. Also kinda freezes sometimes too. I synced data from my s8 when I got it so will try a fresh install not synced

Yes mine is exynos too. I have suspected it to be due to this partly possible

Go to developers option and put all animation option to .5 from 1 & see it fly ... for all 3 setting...i feel the animations are a tad bit slow .75 should had been perfect !

I agree 1 is too slow, and you can set .75 animation speed using adb

Ironically exynos isnmuch more optimised as its samsung home grown chipset ; look at snapdragon counter part it laggs much more but its much better at battery !
Problem with exynos is bad battery life and overheating issue !
