Galaxy S10 Plus - How can I trigger the camera app from screen turned off? - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

I`ve just upgraded from a S7 edge to an S10+ and the main thing I miss is the ability to double press the home button on the S7 to trigger the camera app.
I have mapped a double press of the bixby button to the camera app, but that will only work once the device is unlocked.
Is there a way of triggering the camera app directly with a hardware button press when the screen is turned off??

Just double press the power button.

Can the camera button switch the XdaII on?

is there a registry tweak or something that can be used to enable the camera button to turn the xda on? Its a pain pressing one button to turn it on then pressing the camera button to take a snap.

disable the button-lock?
in those nice alu cases that wouldn't be a problem
no, the button lock doesn't affect the camera button. Even with the lock off the camera button doesn't switch the xda on.
are you talking about xda1 or 2 ?
because i started using the button lock because that
the cam button would turn on my xda2 when i were removing it
from the case it comes with
xda ii. the button definitely doesn't turn it on on my one, i've tried everything.
My camera button doesn't turn mine on either. Isn't there an option somewhere that lets you specify whether any keypress can turn the thing on, or only the power button ?
Rgds,
Rob.
yes its the button lock!!
just tried messing with it and now it dont even if you turn off button lock
maybe i pressed both the record and the cam at once before and the record button turned it on and the cam started the cam
I have an XDA II, and before i installed the new ROM (ASIA version), the device turns on whenever the cam button is press when handling it. I was irritated. But after installing the hew RO, walaaaaa.... the problem is gone. Perhaps it was intentionaly locked by the developers. I find it reasonable..

xda mini power button problems

hi, recently damp got into my xda mini s and disabled all the button, after a while it thought that all the buttons were pressed down, so i tried dryin the device out and it seemed to sort everything out except for the power button, the device thinks that the power button is constantly pressed in so it will either switch the screen off or ask if i want to switch the device off. i was wonderin is there any way that i can completly disable the power button and use another button like the camera button to be the power button instead? many thanks

Backlight & Phone Locking Questions

A couple of quick questions for people who have actually got the phone:
1) Is there an easy way to turn the backlight/screen on/off (to save battery) at the press of a button as you can on most other touchscreen phones?
2) How easy/quick is it to lock/unlock the phone?
3) Approx how many seconds is it from when you press the power button to when the phone is fully loaded and ready to be used?
Thanks in advance!

1. Briefly press the Power Button.
2. To Unlock ~ Swipe your finger across the screen.
3. Depends:
Are you talking of from Powering On or from switching the screen back on?
If from Powering On:-
It really depends on how many Apps/Drivers installed but mine takes around 25 seconds from a long press on the Power button to fully loaded.
If from just switching on the screen:-
Instantly.... and can be switched on either with a brief press on the Power button or the Home key at the bottom of the screen.
Thanks for the reply!
I presume the power button is on the very top edge of the phone?
So would I be correct in saying that a brief press on the power button actually turns the display off (effectively locking the phone from the point of view of accidentally pressing something on screen if it's in your pocket for example) ?
But if the home button turns the screen back on in the same way as the power button, wouldn't THAT be prone to accidentally activating the phone when you don't want it to?
I've always found it much quicker to simply turn off the display instead of actually locking it.

The power button is on the side of the phone, on the right side.
If you press the power button on Android it will lock and shut off the screen yes.
and you press the home button on any android device it usually activated the screen and then you have to swipe to unlock.
Thanks...I was getting confused.
So when you briefly press the power button, it actually "locks" the phone and turns off the display and needs to be "unlocked" with another press of this button & a finger swipe.
Is this hard coded or can you stop the "home" button from also trying to lock/unlock the device, i.e. can I simply use the power button to lock/unlock and the home button doesn't do anything in this state??

It is hard coded.
However, to switch the phone on using the Home button does require a significant press and it is recessed.
Very quick to unlock the phone, whether you use the swipe to unlock or the Android 'join the dots' security. I actually prefer this as you have a decent sized clock on the screen.
I presume the Simcard PIN request on device startup works the same as it does on Windows Mobile devices?

Broken power button, reassigning to another button

I've got a XDA Mini S which I was given. It works fine, except the power button is faulty. I can press the soft reset button to switch it on, and any button unlocks the phone, but I have to just wait for the screen to time out when I'm done doing whatever I'm doing with it.
Is it possible to reassign the power button to another button, e.g. the voice recorder? I know it wont work to switch the phone on from powered down, but can I lock the phone with another button, maybe via an application or config tool?

try to use the AE button Plus for remapping hardware buttons! You can download it at http://ae.inc.ru/index.php

Screen Capture Not Working

Is there a setting that turns this on & off, because neither the hand swipe nor pen method is working.
I do not find these methods to work under all circumstances, ie when a game or app is open..
use the [home] + [power] button combination.. works all the time

Press on the SPEN button & hold the tip to the screen until it takes a pic. the key is waiting for it to take a pic
to take a SS with a hand you have to swipe from right to left using the edge of your hand not the palm
And when all of the above fails, just press the Lock and Home button down at the same time, and it should also make a screenshot.
Note: Press the Home button just a millisecond earlier, else you'll lock your phone.
Thanks to all.
