[MOD][ROOT] Overclock your screen to 84HZ - Xiaomi Mi 9 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Use it at your own risk! It is unknown if it causes any damage to the screen yet. I'm currently testing it for a month now, no issues yet. It should work in any MIUI or non MIUI based ROMs (Don't flash it on any Q ROMs, it is reported that it will bootloop!).
-Download the attached dbto.img, Lanthanum System Toolbox.apk file, install the apk, then open it
-Select partition settings from the hamburger menu
-Select dtbo, make a backup of it (Export image)
-Select dtbo again, click flash image, and choose the dtbo.img file
-Reboot
You should see the changes immediately after the restart. It's way smoother than before.
If you want to go back to default, flash your backed up dtbo image file.

I'm currently using this mod, I'm gonna report back if I found anything unusual. Feel free if you have any questions.
Edit: The screen has a greenish tint in the dark gray colors, if the brightness is set to low.
Edit2: After using for 2 days, I couldn't find any problems, no screen burnin, or anything so far, only the greenish tint on darker areas. Some users are reporting that they don't have this tint at all.
Edit3: I'm using it for a month now. No issues so far (besides the greenish tint)

I found this mod here: https://www.miui.com/thread-24921430-1-1.html
Many people from that forum using it for 3-4 days, and they didn't report any damage to the screen.

Wow, it feels much smoother :good: I have a fear of damaging the screen so after 2 mins i set it back

Working smooth on PIXEL EXPERIENCE !!!!
Well well well.... One plus 7pro doesn't fancy anymore [emoji23]
TapaTalked from my VANTABLACK MI 9

And in 2 weeks we will have another thread in wrong section with a junior member crying because of broken phone lol...

I found that this may be caused by the file manager u use. I'm on Pixel Experience and using the default file manager made it crash. But when I used Xiaomi file manager, it worked.
But besides, wow, this smoothness is amazing. Works just great in Pixel Experience ROM ?
Sent from my Xiaomi MI 9 using XDA Labs

Yeah very smooth, but i have an little bit worry xD

what is the model name of the panel used in the mi 9? Maybe at the vendor page we can find out if it's officially designed to run with 84 hz.
Awesome work so far!

Works fine! Its amazing. Works in miglobe...
Thanks a lot!!!!

I've noticed the fingerprint sensor seems to be very inconsistent when using this mod.

One step closer to make downloadable RAM.

How is the battery with this mod?
The greenish tint is also with stock dtbo?

This is amazing, feels like a new phone. So far no problems

This can be done on violet? (redmi note 7 pro)

I love this mod thanks for posting this...

How do I check that? I'm curious...
Also, I'll try this mod for a couple of days, so far seems smooth but with a little bit of more battery consumption, a yellowish-like tint overall affecting every color calibration config. that I could try, and a greenish tint on low brightness over dark/gray areas.

There is no need to use that apk.
Just flash the img in twrp to dtbo.
OC works well, been using it for few hours.

This really messes with the colours. The options in PUBG become see through and greenish. Also PUBG seems to lag a bit when it's set to 84Hz. But PUBG taking a big hit because of this mod and hence I had to revert back. Although just going thru android felt so much better.

yep thats what i thought to, then read this at the top of the dev forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380904
which basically said if not you own it do not post it there, also suggested posting it here.
Since i only really tweaked the zip of beanstalk to produce Fenris, and just added a little bash code, dont know if it counts as my work, i did not compile anything at all.
Having said that am back at my linux box in 2 days and will compile it from scratch then
Fenris V6 up
First of all, thank you for your effort around making tweaking and modding BeanStalk rom.
After, regarding where it should go, I think it "Android Development" category would fit, but I'm sure someone will confirm and move there if necessary.
Sounds great, can't wait to get home and try it out. I'm currently using PAC, but it lacks a lot of the usual PAC features. Same is for paranoid for Flo, it's almost completely pure AOSP and lacks a lot of the usual features.

Nope zero problems for me
V6 semed to have got lost in the air somewhere , but v7 ( pretty stable i think just doing last of the tests ) is up and very very very good
A bit of a warning here, Fenris is not like other roms, to get the best out of it either read the setup instructions with a fine tooth comb, or be VERY familiar with lucky patcher already
Fenris V8 ( what i hope is the last version ) is up, so far no big bugs

Ok am on it, will have a look and fix if necessary within the hour,
There is a separate problem, the new build of beanstalk i am using seems to have broken bluetooth, i have just checked on a clean unmodified beanstalk / fresh flash and def something up with the Bluetooth, since im not compiling it yet doubt can fix, am revering back to the previous release and checking its working on that, if not going on that will be changing rom base.
Just flashed my local V8 with no problems, twice to check,
So has to be a upload/download issue, can you try re-downloading and try again ?, if still issue will re-upload file.
What does the TWRP window say ? does it fail at a script line or fail at the beginning ?

hmm yes obviously an issue when flashing as secondary rom, maybe something to do with the new " check journals gone with a script " feature, will remove it and see if that makes a difference, will call it v8.1 and do it for tonight.
Ps seems Bluetooth does work, just the options>blutooth>on/of switch is flaky, can be swiched well with the drop-down panels.
Its a small bug and do not think its reason to switch base rom.
Have checked pairing with few devices, all pair, by no means a good spread
8.1 is uploaded , can i ask what TWRP you are using ? , i dont recognise your screenshots, is it the multirom app ? I use 2.7 multirom TWRP and it does not look like that ( in fact your screens look much better )

Ahhh thank you very very much, must say one learns something new every day on XDA
Ok found/fixed the issue with Fenris and multirom, the multirom environment is incompatible with my ext4 journal fix, hence i have made a version without my ext4 fix, its in the same folder but with a "multirom" tag, just tested and will be good.
I do a fair amount of weird kernel tweaking in the init.d , no idea if any of that is multirom complaint, certainly have not tested it in that env
V9 is up, this is final stable version, which i use every day, lead post updated.

Since I'm lazy, and hate making custom roms.. I might create a mod zip to make dpi larger. Of course it will replace some of touchwiz apps but I don't think people will mind. I should of thought of that lol. I will set the dpi to the one you suggested for T700. For T800 (this rom) it's set to 340dpi. Will work on the mod zip sometime soon.
At first moment, I suggest 384 (320+ 20%). I hope, when you break this development it will be possible to adjust it.
It will be best to use it with most popular t700 rom (@basic), but it is more complicated and I am sure you must coordinate wit him about this.
So, if you make it first for stock rom, I will test it with pleasure.
Just give me instructions...

If you don't mind having svoice, Samsung camera and a few other Samsung apps, then I could come up with something. I'll use 384 dpi when I start on it.

Its been a really long time away from Android ROMS for me but I remember this being an issue some times in the past. Seems like the system was looking for the folder to save the screenshots in. Could be "sdcard/pictures/Screenshots" If that folder doesn't exist create it and that might fix it.?

Thanks for the steps, but I'm using the official rom and battery life seems to not exceed 6 hours of SoT. Which is less than MIUI 8 and on par with custom non MIUI roms. Anyone facing this issue ?
Having same feeling with battery drain as lastest MIUI 8 stable build !!! No extra drop down issue !
Haven't encountered the drain issue myself, pretty much on par for me as 8 was.
Just to clarify in case I wasn't clear, I'm not talking about the Xiaomi.eu MIUI 9 rom but the official chinese ROM.
u mean this one ? MIUI 9 China Stable V9.1.2.0.NAHCNEI ?? because Eu is based on China Build.... xiaomi.eu_multi_MIMix_V9.1.2.0.NAHCNEI !!
MIUI 9 China Stable V9.1.2.0.NAHCNEI bug encounter
I forgot to turn off auto updates and my Mi MIX has been updated to MIUI 9 China Stable V9.1.2.0.NAHCNEI. So far the response is good but I encounter some issue during listening to whatapp voice msg, after you click play on the whatapp voice msg my Mi MIX screen will turn black and the sound will be soften but you can still listen to the voice msg if you place the phone near to your ear. It will become not responsive till the whatapp voice msg fully finish and you either need to double touch the screen or use finger to unlock the phone. Anyone encounter this error. Is this the right forum to submit this bug?

This issue was happening all the time, perhaps it gets worse on the latest update. But as i suggested before; when it gets turned off; just put your phone to your ear(like in a call) and move it away quickly. It supposes to wake the screen up.
That thing i guess happens because of weird proximity sensor behavior. If you cover the sensor area while listening a voice message(same thing happens on telegram, and regular call); sound goes to earphone, which looks ok. But this feature behaves abnormally on mix, smh.

now i am on miui9 global
I'm not able to download the rom. When I click the link it doesn't do anything..
Which ROM ?
I really like Miui, I'll never go back to a lithium ROM. I found Miui theme editor,it's the app iv been looking for there are alot of little tweaks. The reviews in the play store are mixed though. There are alot of people that are saying theme editor doesn't work after update OTA to the latest Miui ROM, so I guess since I'm not having any issues with this ROM I'll be staying put. There's a few more things I would like to change being, the nav bar is there a way to change the icons? I would also like to make the status bar icons a little bigger. And what the heck is the little icon in the far right hand corner of the status bar it looks like a little battery icon with a small pad lock in the center.

I just installed Xstana and it's ok I guess but I really don't like the nav bar options really, but if it's all I can get then I'll use them. Why does the Xstana navbar theme only apply to home screen? When I click any app they go back to default icons. There are several other navbar icon apps but they don't work and that sucks. Is there any extra work that can be done to keep the navbar icons that we pick from Xstana, instead of only being able to see them on the home screen?
Thanks
