Problem with 4G and WiFi on Android Pie - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone. I'm on Pixel Experience CAF. Sometimes 4g network is very slow and I need to wait a lot in order to load a web page or when i try to install an app from play store it download ~100kb/sec. Other times it is very fast (100kb/s Vs ~6mb/s). I flashed latest firmware (June). I mention have this problem since upgraded to Android Pie (9.0). With Oreo everything was working fine.
I have another issue with WiFi. I have a Xiaomi Mi Band 3 so I need bluetooth enabled. I noticed that when BT is active WiFi is very slow. Instead, it is very fast when BT is disabled. Is there a solution for this problem? P.S. I don't know if this issue was even in Oreo.

Jiayu S3 Adv - AOSP N stable 8 - automatic reboots, wifi, camera and sound profiles

@superdragonpt Due to the fact that I'm not allowed to post to the original
ROM thread, I'm providing my feedback via this channel.
I've successfully updated my phone to the latest AOSP 7.1.1 stable8 ROM with Gapps nano. Although most of the phone functions are working very well and maybe a little bit faster, there some smaller issues which I want to report or maybe ask for a solution:
1. From time to time the phone seems to freeze and then reboots with the
requirement to enter the SIM pin again. I've not yet identified a fixed schema
which my help to identify the root cause of the problem. Any tips how I can
solve this problem are appreciated.
2. The WIFI connection to 2.4/5 GHz access points seems to be worse than
with the old Android 5 image. I've read that other users have experienced
the same problem but a solution hasn't been provided yet.
3. The camera problems have already been discussed in another thread. So
I hope you will be able to fix it with the next stable release.
4. What I'm still missing is the option to choose between several audio profiles,
e.g. "silent", "normal", "loud" etc. It might be possible that I've not yet found
the option in the settings. If so, a tip how I can activate the feature would be
highly appreciated.
To 1: Today the phone freezed exactly as I selected a WIFI network and pressed the connect button. After a while it has rebooted automatically and I had to enter my SIM pin again.
[STABLE 10] Bugs I encountered
- NFC (Android Beam) file transfer error
- Bluetooth won't send/receive any .apk files
- High resolution video playback bug
- VPN connection does not tunnel to Built in browser, 3rd party app works.
- Hotspot breaks when turned on and off several times
- Wifi keeps disconnecting
- Idk if package installer in this build installs slower than previous ones
New members are not allowed to post reply on the original thread so I decided to report it here.
@jayjay1413 Might it be possible that you've mixed-up the phone types?
As far as I know a *stable10* doesn't exist for the Jiayu S3 Adv(ance) but
for the Jiayu S3 Plus.
Google Chromecast
Hi, using stable 8 I haven't been able to connect to my chromecast, I returned to the previous rom I was using (TFAndroid 2.54) that works perfectly for my S3 Advnace. I tried Nougat because I wanted the split screen featrure but for me chromecast connection is more important.

Help - Connection problem/lag after upgrading Android 8.0

Hello everyone. I have a samsung galaxy s7 edge (SM G935F) and i recently received the android 8.0.0 from samsung. Downloaded and installed directly via the cellphone.
But after updating i am getting this internet/connection drop issues a lot.
Now a lot of times when im connected in wifi or using the 4g mobile internet, im getting a lot of internet lag/drops. Example: at whatsapp, when i sens a message, the clock appears and only after a little rhe time the message is send.
Example 2: at facebook, somerimes it lags and takes too long to load the content (same happening in instagram). Or at clash of clans, it is showing that symbol of internet issue.
Besides those internet bugs/lags, the android 8.0.0 is ok.
I already did a factory reset yesterday via the phone, and saved the files with smart switch. But the problem persists. I also checked and my wifi internet and my mobile internet are ok.
Does anyone knows how to fix this issue? Is there a newer version of the ROM, maybe? Or if not, is ir possible to downgrade to android 7 again (really wouldnt like this option but....)?
If anyone could help that would be great. But for the record:im really newbie at android stuffs....if you can help, please could you explain step by step?
Thanks everyone
Another bug i am noticing: besides the internet crash/drop (wifi and 4g), i've noticed that it is taking too long to charge (around 3h...3:30h), even with fast charge.
Does anyone knows how to fix those bugs, or anyone is having those issues ?
Can i flash again the BTU ROM of android 8.0 from UK, with CSC from android 7.x from Brazil (ZTO)??? I mean, is it compatible?
thanks

Hi,
My S7e has just upgraded to 8.0.0 and is now having the same wifi lag issue. Did you manage to find a fix?
Thanks
Ady
I'm also noticing the same issue with my S7E. I'm on XEU.
Has anyone got the same issues with BTU as I'm considering swapping over?

I fixed the issue on my device. The problem was having power saving mode enabled, I use to run it all the time on nougat and never had an issue. Yet I turned it off and now there's no connection lag what so ever.
I was having the same issue with btu xeu even custom. On Oreo my wifi switch went totally gray and screen pattern unlock would also take 20-25 sec to unlock but then I flashed this kernel and everything works like a charm.

Bug: Apps working erratically under wifi

When connected to wifi, some websites do not load, and some apps like twitter, sonyliv, etc does not get internet. All the google apps works fine including youtube.
Here is a short video demo of th ebug:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/jce2ntjMK1N9xLFw7
Have posted this on Asus forum, there are other similar threads, but the seems to ignore the issue, this should be a priority. The phone is useless under wifi, works fine with 4g, and even when I connect to my oneplus5 hotspot.
I do not want to root or load any custom ROM, the reason why I bought this was for stock ROM. Is there a way I can go back to a stock ROM without rooting ? The issue did not exist with the firmware that came along with the phone. - Thanks.
I am also facing this issue with instagram
Asus did not even recognize it as an issue, so o rooted and loaded custom room, RR, and now Android p beta, both works fine without any issues.
Facing the same issue
Well, I finally rooted and used custom ROM, this resolved the issue for me, and also confirms that there is firmware issues with the phone with ASUS fails to accept.
Asus ignores the issue because the problem cannot be created with all wifi networks out there, strangly when I created a hotspot using OnePlus 5, the m1 worked fine. Some users think there r issues with their wifi, but it's not the case.
Anyways, if you can, just root and use a custom ROM.

What do you do? 5ghz Wi-Fi issue...

Hi Guys,
I just got my Prime Day Essential set up and after updating to the latest Android 8.1.0 build with the July patches I'm one of the lucky ones with the 5ghz Wi-Fi issue, where when I connect to a 5ghz Wi-Fi, the connection and speed starts throttling down to no bandwidth at all. My workaround has been using the slower 2.4ghz SSID. I also have the issue where the Play Store download sometimes waits forever to download in the queue.
What do you guys do with this issue? Flash to Android P? Something else with you router?
I really don't think it's my router because obviously all other devices in the house are working flawlessly... Appreciate ANY help... Thank you!

I've been searching for a solution to this issue since I got the PH-1 about 3 weeks ago. Here I read your post, and I just did a test to disappoint myself once again with the issue... but... it doesn't seem to be happening anymore?!??
I am running AOSiP (8.1 w/ July security patch) with the latest Neutrino Fornax kernel (important because it has the latest Android P WLAN drivers, same as the Essential P B3 066 stock release). I am going to see if I can determine what might have fixed it, but I've been running this setup for a week and it originally had the problem.
What I would suggest:
- Don't spend much time diagnosing your router, all the changes suggested in these forums didn't change anything for me at least (YMMV). As you said, all other devices in your home are working fine (same here).
- Don't install P to resolve this issue. I clean flashed the Essential P Beta Release, and the problem was still there. In fact it seems to have been worse, with PS download stopping completely with a message "Waiting for WiFi".
- Try a different kernel. Try the latest ElementalX kernel (3.0.6). I believe it has the updated WLAN drivers as well since it supports Android P. I don't believe the Neutrino kernel works on stock.
- Check your PlayStore version, I think mine was updated recently (11.0.50-all[0] [PR] 206665793)
I am going to look into this more, and if I find a definitive "this is what fixed it" I will post it here. Good luck...
This is issue is not present for me on 9.0 further the speed difference between 2.4 and 5 isn't really world eg being on 2.4 is still faster than most broadband connections. This is seems to be a google security patch issue on 8.1 and likely will be fixed in the next patch. When the latest 9.0 beta came out it seemed to go away. So it seems they know how to fix it.
I have no problem either, latest android P, rooted with rey darkroom kernel
Edit, can u guys connect to any wifi? There seems to be an issue, after flashing various ota's, stock images, or treble gsi's that disable wifi and Bluetooth and the only way i have found to fix them, isfor android P at least) to flash a july 8.1 images (flashall. Bat) then flash android P to fix wifi and Bluetooth issues.

Thanks for the warm welcome, my friend and even more so, thank you so much for your very detailed post and what you've done to remedy.
I assume messing with the kernel and etc will require Bootloader unlocking and rooting, right? I haven't rooted a phone since the V20, just been opting out of that life for secure payment methods, stable battery and just general ease of moving from phone to phone like I do ?.
What I did last night... Could be a fluke, could be placebo, however, changing the channels on my 5ghz network, rebooting the router, I've been connected to the 5ghz network with my Essential for about 12 hours now with no throttling. I'm not sure if it was in fact the channel change or rebooting the router that cleared things up? Albeit, the signal strength on this network on this phone is the lowest I have seen between the Note 8, HTC U12+, iPhone 7 Plus...
Please keep the research up, I will too, this problem really has no documented solution yet.

Thank you bud, good to hear you're not seeing the issue... But honestly, it does exist for some of us. I really hope it's the issue with the July patch, that'll make things so much easier! Although, I disagree 5ghz is much faster for me than my 2.4ghz network...

Thanks for reporting, good Sir. Yes, I can connect to any network, just low signal strength and the choking issue I had before my router change. Bluetooth seems stable with my smart watch, though the watch seems to be draining the battery faster on this phone... Who knows man ??
You might have noticed I am on the P beta. Also have you run actual wifi speed tests or are we taking seat of the pants feelings?

Hey bud, yes good to see promising reports from P beta... Hoping the bad WiFi is resolved for the ones who get it.
And yes, speed tested, repeatedly. Sadly, Essential's top speeds are way worse than the Note 8, HTC U12+, iPhone 7 Plus... I'm talking almost 100mbps less ?...
For whatever reason though, the choking of the bandwidth down to unusual issue has gone away. Not sure if rebooting the Router did that? WiFi signal is also the worst I have seen on this phone out of all the others mentioned...
I appreciate you sharing your experience.

So your downloads are not as fast as your other devices but you no longer see the downloads slow to a crawl (~100KB/s)? My downloads are not slowing to a crawl either any longer. Hey bud, yeah, I was playing with Substratum on a NON-rooted, bootloader locked device with Andromeda. So when I had the bootloop, I had no custom recovery in place to flash the rescue zip. :'(
So I "fried" my data, beyond retrievable, I mean. I was surprised that the Essential stock recovery didn't even have a way to install update.zip? That way us non-rooted folks can always save our rescue zips on our computers and see if there was a way to sideload the zip through the stock recovery... Oh well, either there is a way, or I didn't know and couldn't get enough help in time in the middle of the night. I needed my phone working in the AM...
I have had 7.01 when I got the phone yesterday. Went to 9 same day and I can't watch a video. Speed test shows 1.2 M down 2.3 up. I checked other devices and they are showing 70 down and 10 up
My Essential didn't even see my 5Ghz network on 8.1, but I just updated to 9, and now everything is good. Getting 72mbit on a 75mbit connection, too.
On 9.0 rooted with ex kernel on 5ghz ac 866mbit no issues at all... I get 40 megabytes a sec on my wifi.. I have 65 megabytes a sec with my current isp. I why straight to 9.0 phone was on 7.1.2 when I got it a few days ago.
Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
I just did the see 5th security patch update while already on P. My ph1 has never been able to connect to my Xfinity 5ghz channel. Actually, it will sometimes connect, but says 'connected (no internet)' then drips connection. So it's ALWys had trouble with that. My HTC 10 does not, my V30 does not, my M7 does not.
Since the 9/5 update, even my 2.4ghz channel is crazy slow. I get about 3mbps down with my case on. Took off case and get 15mbps. Verified thru multiple tests. My V30 gets 63mbps on same 2.4 channel.
Anyone have this situation? I can't seem to find any further settings in wifi settings to try to see if a setting is wrong.
Does the ph1 just have the worst wifi radio ever? Or is there somewhere in setting that I can change something that I just haven't found? Much thanks.
Stock. Not rooted, no custom kernel, etc. I've been hesitant to root this device because of the A/B slots confusing me a little and just don't have the time currently to really dig into it.
I've the same problem with 5GHz wifi... Connection is very poor. Automatically reconnect to 2,4GHz network. My iPhone 6s didn't problem with this. I don't know, how fix it.
Xfinity routers suck. That said my PH1 connects just fine to my Linksys 5ghz AC channel. Works all over my house and only switched to the 2.4 GHz when I go outside.

What are you guys using to confirm throughput? I'll be testing my replacement (recording audio issue with the one I purchased) when it gets in.
I do file transfers from my PC to my phone and back again and measure the time vs size of file. Over the local network obviously.

Wifi is unusable on android 10

Hi, I have a problem with mi redmi note 7 (lavender)
the problem is that the wifi gets disconnected at some distance (something normal from redmi note 7) the real problem is that it doesn't reconnect, even if i have the router with me, in the lower area of the wifi it shows the message "saved" i try to forget the network and reset the password but i still can't connect, I have to restart the phone to be able to connect normally, but after a while the problem returns.
I'm using a custom rom called AOSIP with android 10, I have already used pixel experience, Crdroid, Evolution x, Havoc os and absolutely, all have the same problem. I want to make it clear that I have already used android 10 on my redmi note 7 (pixel experience) and I didn't have any problems, the problem started after the February updates this year.
I don't think it's a hardware problem because going back to miui or a custom rom with android 9 solves the problem.
I would like to know if you already know about this subject or if you are already working on it or if there is a solution.
thanks

I think you might be onto something. In my case, the problem has been with Wifi Tethering. The phone is basically unusable as a hotspot, cutting out frequently and randomly and I think this has something to do with your wifi problem, maybe a driver issue? Like yourself, I've tried several aosp roms, all have the same problem.
Do you recall the last Pixel Experience release without this wifi issue? I am considering rolling back...

Good morning, I've already tried the most recent version of pixel experience, in fact the AOSIP rom is from May 17, 2020, practically yesterday.
Obviously it's a driver problem, but I don't understand why all custom roms have the same problem and I don't know how to solve it either (in android 10)

Currently on StagOS May 11 build. I settled on that after trying Pixel Ex, Evolution, etc as it was the one with the least hotspot issues; which isn't saying much as tethered devices would randomly lose internet connection while the phone clearly had internet and you could browse on any browser on the phone.
Since you say the issue occurred for you after the February updates, maybe you could point me to the last stable build you used so I can roll back.

I recommend all the versions that are from February, I would like to use pixel experience from that date but the page only has recent versions.
if you want a specific version use Crdroid 20200209
crdroid if you keep your old versions in the cloud so I recommend it, but I can not guarantee that it is totally stable. Pixel experience if stable but they don't have the versions of those dates.

I would like you to install the most recent version of pixel experience and when configuring the wifi, you will move away from the router until the signal goes away and try to connect again, just to check if it is really my phone or not.
Obviously making a backup before and also doing all this is optional. If you don't want to do it there is no problem thanks.

I already tried StagOs, I still have the same problem with the wifi, I also tried the hotspot and as you say if there is a data problem and in general it is unstable.
I downloaded the latest version of pixel experience and as expected the wifi was still failing, but the hotspot was working correctly so you can install it without any problem.

Okay sorry for the delay, been busy experimenting. Your recommendation of the Feb 09 crdroid build was spot on, flashed it, wifi and hotspot works like a dream, no issues at all.
After confirming that I decided to take a backup and try a recent AOSP build. I had already tried the Pixel Ex May 11 build and had the same issues so I downloaded the most recent build of Evolution X (May 17) and flashed.
So far, (Fingers crossed) I have not been able to replicate your WiFi issues or my tethering issues. WiFi did not disconnect even at a distance of over 50ft from the router. Keep in mind that these connection issues occur randomly but there's been nothing so far.
I will continue to use this build and test for the rest of the day. If I experience any dropouts I will restore to the stable crdroid build. Maybe you should try the newest evolution or go back to the stable crdroid to test if the issues are software related or specific to your device.
At this point I've been testing the latest build of Evolution (May 17) for about half a day, and zero problems so far, very stable.
I recommend you try it, may fix your wifi issues.

I am very happy that I found a solution to your problem, then I made some tests by creating an access point with my sister's phone ( xiaomi mi a1 ) and I performed the distance test and my phone connected normally. After several tests I am reaching a preliminary conclusion that there is an incompatibility with my router, I would need more tests with another router to conclude that my router is practically obsolete. That would also explain why I haven't found another thread with this same problem
good luck, tell me if you have finally solved your problem
