These cameras are really only sold for the zoom feature. The fact is, there’s a reason that the equipment needed for quality photos of distant subjects in motion is so expensive. At the end of the day, these Nikon cameras are just your slightly above average point-and-shoot cameras with a giant plastic lens and some newer optical zoom/stabilization tech. The autofocus capability and sensor tech suffer from the same issues most other cheaper cameras do. That being said, there’s no real throwing money at the situation to even come close to that zoom capability otherwise, hence why it’s pretty special/unique in the space. Even if you’re a pro wildlife photog and are one of the few Canon 1200mm L series owners for example, you still aren’t getting as close with zoom and that lens costs more than some houses. But if you’re looking to get into taking better stuff of your kids sports and birds in your backyard, consider getting into photography and buy something with better autofocus and image quality over something like the p900/p1000. I’d Nox Vidmate VLC recommend something from the Sony a6XXX series and a 70-200/70-300 personally as a starting point for anyone going down that rabbit hole.

Does anybody use Universal's Camera??

I am considering buying a Universal and one concern is that the camera is only 1.3 mp....many reviews have said that 1.3 mp cameras are poor at best ....worthless use of space at worst...
Can any of you Universal users comment on your use of camera?? Can you get good pics from it ....or is it truly a waste of space?
thanks
on the fence...
Scott
The camera is not that great but this might be of assistance, have not tried it personally as I have a good digital camera

It's not the best camera I've used but if you have a stable hand then it can work pretty well.

All of these are from Universal:
I am not too impressed with the camera either, but then again, it's my first camera on a phone and I am used to digital camera quality. I use it for taking snapshots, and I use a good digital camera for photo's. That's the way it should be.
It just comes in handy when I'm on the road or whatever, because I always carry the phone with me, whereas I do not have a digital camera with me all the time.
I think it's just handy and the quality doesn't matter all that much for it's purpose.
look for more photos made by the universal here: http://www.newmobile.nl/eur/en/photos.php?phone_id=12bb134
you can also find photos on that site taken with other phones for comparing..
thanks everyone
thanks for the advice on universal camera
Much appreciated!!

That last photo of yours...do you notice the dead/bright/insensitive pixels? I get that on mine as well....how come?

galaxy vs nexus camera

does anyone else find that the nexus takes much better still pictures than the galaxy.
Better contrast, saturation, less noise, better focus, especially in low light conditions.
Here are 2 examples, both at the same settings, except the galaxy i activated anti-shake, which seems to reduce the graininess a little.
Sure the galaxy pic looks fine when shrunk down by 50% but compared at full size, imo it looks like crap compared to the nexus

Picture quality is indeed very poor on the SGS, maybe even worse than the HTC Hero I had before...pics look very blurry, almost useless really...hope future roms can improve this...(little hope).
After using the camera i feel that the auto focus system used aint that great and is the real failing point of the camera. Overall, pictures are soft and not well focused, and i just can never seem to focus on close subjects. E.g. when i try to take a picture of an insect, it focuses till its clear but then backs out and gives me the red box.
I think my Captivate cam is great.

To large for the forum.
those captivate pics are better than my galaxy.
i tried a second galaxy and the image quality was quite improved over the first one ....wether it is the firmware or the hardware i have no idea, but i have a feeling they are using different sensors at random.
with an HD video camera, you would think it would also take decent still images
....they either come out very grainy or out of focus
also my SGS camera is very poor, i hope that it can be improved by future software. Previously i had an Nokia E90 3M camera and it was way better.

Camera Stabilization

Is there anything I can do to make the camera more stable? cause pictures I took from the HD2 are so shaky, but If I take a picture using my Canon camera, eventhough I shake, the pictures are clear...
and how do you guys clean your camera? I clean with my T-Shirt and I got scratches now... the Camera gets dirty easily..
No you can't. Almost every new Camera has an Image Stabilisator. It's not possible to build something like that into a Mobile Phone. The only thing you can do is increasing the ISO value. The higher the ISO value is the less shaky the pictures will be but they will also be more noisy. And what do you mean with cleaning your camera? If you mean the lens then you should only try to blow the dust away or you will get scratches in it. If you mean the display then there should be no problem using a T-Shirt. I think the camera of the HD2 can also be cleaned with your T-Shirt because there is a pane in front of the lens.
I clean the camera lens with my T-Shirt and now there is tiny scratches, somehow the lens will get fingerprints or some sticking dirt
Yes you can. There are apps for android with basic image stabilazation features. For example camera 360 or snap photo pro ... works nicely

This is not your fault, just because exposure time is long. You should increase your iso value to 800 and/or use flash. You cant stop moving objects
Or you can use the trick for camera button.

if I set ISO to 800 with or without flash in a condition with the above picture, the photos will turn out very grainy

Motorola XOOM
Notion Ink Adam
wow... The difference is crazy.
Edit: just watched the video... NI's video sucks, I wonder why it can't stay focused...
They should have stuck with a better camera resolution. nevertheless the darn clicking noise was unacceptable. And frame rate change was also a shock to me when I looked at the video info.

Thanks for posting this, inspiron41!
I am generally happy with my Adam Pixel Qi. I do have the same focus issues.
The problem when a company (NI) uses a cheap part (the camera) it really cheapens the entire product. NI probably saved a $1 or $2 dollars. Hard to see how Rohan could think this to be bleeding edge technology and living his "dream" when you cut corners needlessly.
Wow thats bad....wth is that clicking noise.....If there is a way to fix this, I will, even if I have to open the damn thing and replace the motor or the camera....is that clicking noise present during recording only or during recording and playback?

Xperia Z5 Camera - as Advertise

Hi Z5 Users! Just curious how we can get a good shot with moving objects?.... or anyone can show how to do it in a proper way?.... As I'm wondering how Sony did the following shots in their website? As I myself is always ending up with either focus center and blurry shots outside the focal point of the picture, or mostly with blur edges or noisy pic, do we have to always use a tripod to get a good moving shot? (especially for me with shaky hands lol).

Use sports mode. In Scenes
Or Manual with low ISO and lowered Exposition im good light.
In a more difficult light with a slightly higher ISO which pushes faster shutter speeds. And lowered Exposition.
