First time rooting, getting nowhere - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm currently attempting to root or downgrade a friends Note 4 (SM-N910F) using Odin/CF Autoroot but not having much success at all.
I have downloaded the boot .md5 file that matches all the system information, and it installs and boots as normal, but when using several root checkers, they all say there is no root access

Anything that may point me in the right direction to get this rooted, or downgraded past the March 2017 security update would be greatly appreciated

Go to XDA developers forum for Samsung galaxy note 4, there is a topic about how to root them and files necessary to so.
It's called auto root , or something like that

System update. Should I proceed?

My N10 is showing a system update. Should I take it? I'm not going to just yet. From my experience ota to newer firmware and such sometimes end up locking ppl or out not being able to achieve root or cust recovery.
Someone please advise if I should take the update.

It's a Nexus device, I wouldn't worry about an update locking out the ability to root. There's no carriers trying to screw you here, and Google doesn't care if you root or unlock the bootloader.
Go ahead and update (there's some needed fixes in it).
And since that first update is going to be the base firmware that is used to develop the first working N10 root in the first place, you'll need it for that too.
Yeah, I would. It's Google - there's not gonna be any dodgy stuff with it.

Flashed an unsigned recovery the manual way

Welp, within hours of gaining root, I did something stupid:
Code:
dd if=openrecovery-klte-2.7.0.0.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
It worked, but now I've got AT&T's friendly, "we hate you" message and I can't boot:

How do I unscrew this up? Will an Odin back to stock save me here?
Going forward, how do I bypass this nonsense? I'm on klteatt, basically the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S5.
Do I need to migrate this to Q/A? If so, how can I do that? Not sure.
Have you tried using Samsung Kies to recover your phone?

I was able to install my recovery with the original Samsung recovery, wrapping it in a tar archive, appending the md5sum to the end of the file, and flashing with Odin. I'm all good now. Migrating further discussion to the other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53487095

[Q] Root for lollipop

I haven't used my S4 in a while since i got my S6 Edge i was wondering is there a root for the S4 5.0 I've been looking everywhere and no luck yet
I'm seconding this question.
In addition I'm on 4.3 and my system can't even manually pick up on the update. What's up with that?
Third that...
I just got my S4 L720 replacement, came pre-loaded with 5.01 and I can't find a way to root it, cant do anything with it really...
Haaaaallp!
Just use Odin to flash TWRP, then in TWRP flash Chainfire's SuperSU.
It's the same as KitKat, what mattzeller said or Odin CF-AUTO-ROOT by Chainfire

Ok I'm not an expert at all and I don't want to follow the wrong guide and mess everything up. I googled some of the terms and I don't feel confident enough in what I found.
How exactly do I get to KitKat (be it the stock rom or the one really close to it) and root it?

Straight-forward way to root i337 Android 5.0.1

I've been searching for a way to root my SGH i337 phone on Android 5.0.1.
I found threads that say to "Downgrade" or "Flash NB1". Then i went searching on how to do either of those things and all i get is downloads to dead links.
Nothing straight-forward that is actually going to help me root my phone. I haven't been able to find a simple guide on doing this could someone point me in the right direction? I'm ****ing frustrated.
I found this in the upgrade to 5.0.1 and keep root thread but have not tried it as I am traveling. I intend to look deeper into it when I get home.

I took the plunge and installed the deskop version of KingRoot and it worked perfectly. Did take a couple of minutes and I had to do some investigative work to get around the Chinese UI.
Here are some notes I put together for the AT&T S4 (I337) with OC4 (should also work on OC3): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62378222&postcount=20

You're not the only one, same for me and some other Note FE SM-N935F/DS users...
Seems like that only the Korean variant doesn't have this problem as they can just flash the standard TWRP without problems.
Anyone able to boot back to main screen without flashing stock ROM?
So there's no working root method yet for N935F/DS. Seems we have to wait for a year? Hope not. I like their phones but I hate Samsung!
