Switching from iPhone XS Max to Samsung Galaxy S10+ - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Have anyone switched from iPhone XS Max to Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus?
I am planning to get S10 Plus little bit bored of XS Max now can anyone share their experience, thanks.

I've had a xs max now s10+ tbh its personal preference I've always preferred android but wanted to try apple again but still I preferred android just more customizable ok iOS is so smooth but then it would be as it's pretty basic , one ui has been a big improvement over touchwiz so it's better now , I don't miss that horrible big notch on the iPhone the screen on the s10+ is probably one of the best Samsung make good panels , the only thing iPhone was slightly better in my opinion was the vibration motor was superb and sound a little better but still wasn't enough to convert me fully , that's not to say s10+ sound and vibration isn't good it is! just iPhone had slight advantage on that for me would I go back to iPhone definitely not in the near future , camera as well is pretty nifty on s10+ lots of modes and will only improve with updates, face unlock is as quick as iPhone obviously might not be as secure as it's been widely discussed but the ultra sonic fingerprint is quick as well , not to mention bigger lasting battery on s10+ but the iPhone is pretty well optimised so it lasts quite well as well , anyway I'd still pick s10+ over xs Max any day , hope this helps in some way ,

iPhone shoots better Video. Apps are just better. Filmic PRO, anything from DJI, Quik, there are some exceptional video editors like Lumafusion etc. If YOU are a media person, go with the iPhone. I still regret selling mine and Getting the s10 plus.
Android has some advantages FOR a power user. A good File management system, Tasker, Join, autotools and the entire suite, root, customisation etc.
But with age, all those things just do not Seem that interesting anymore. You just Want the apps to work as intended.
Sound is also better on the iPhone. And stand-by time. No Matter what the tests Say, battery life is just better on the xs MAX.
S10? What is new ? The s9 was pretty much the same. And not too far from s8.

I did this exact switch. I used an XS Max for about 4 months, but as an android "veteran" i alway felt restricted. Nevertheless i really liked the experience, and i easily could have kept using the max. In combination with an apple watch, an ipad everything was very easy to use and somewhat gratifying at times.
I have to admit, i had to customize qute a few aspects of my S10+ until i was really satisfied. One hand operations, bxaction, disabling apps and really digging into all the settings took quite some time. All this seems to be unimportant on the apple side of things. Of course you can very much use the s10+ as it comes out of the box, but you are able to further increase the usability and customize the heck out of this phone (or any other android phone for that matter). Thats a big plus for some people.
I also was bored and did the switch. But being bored sometimes is also a good thing. You can invest all the time you gain into other things in life, and just keep using the phone <- true for both sides of the isle...

I switched from iPhone x to the s10+ since March 2019
And till now very happy and never looking back

Are you using Exynos or Snapdragon cause I read very bad reviews about the Exynos version

For me
Exynos and it is very good with me with great battery life
But i don't game with my phone so cant comment on gaming performance

I've always had both Android and iPhone .every year I get the newest iPhone to see what's changed and if I can live with it because no doubt the UI is very smooth. But the freedom the Android gives me to do what I want to my phone is why I stick with Android. I bought a xs Max on launch and used it for 2 weeks I went to the browser and wanted to download a file from MediaFire for my customized Nintendo switchbecause I work as a night guard and I don't have a laptop and I use my phones to transfer files to it. It wouldn't even download a file from the browser where Android just would have did it. Always give the argument that you can look at 10 iPhones and they all look the same but you look at an Android and they all look different for a good reason

Ads. I can't stand Ads. Android will always be my OS due to the ability to block Ads with the plethora of Ad blocking apps available. Try blocking system-wide apps on IPhone, wow. I currently use AdGuard, paid, and I see nothing. This alone, for me, is the best and only reason to use Android, specifically a Galaxy S10+. With the increases in speed, updated processors year after year, improvements in camera quality, and numerous other upgrades, it has always been an easy choice for me. Android over IPhone. Just my 2 cents, as I realize everyone's needs are different.

I have both devices but I prefer the XS Max: the apps are better, the UI is smoother (although Sammy has really made incredible strides from its earlier years), the camera takes better shots and accessory availability is wider.
Whenever I have to go out of town and have to bring just one device, I bring the Max.

Apple products are not good because iOS system is very limited and can not be used without internet.it is bound with with Apple server and App Store.
You can try it yourself. try to install an app (after a reset) just like on any Android device. just like on a windows pc. it doesn't work. you always need an internet activation after the reset or if you bought a new iOS device.
The iPhone XS Max and new iPhone 11 Pro Max have only USB 2.0 support.
The Samsung Galaxy S10/S9 have USB 3.1 Gen 1 or Asus ROG Phone II even has USB 3.1 Gen 2 support.

S6 vs iPhone 6 Plus personal Experience.

I had an iPhone 6 Plus and got a S6 instead, here are my thoughts....
Galaxy S6
The samsung galaxy S6 is amazing, the display is unreal, the look and feel is Amazing! The camera is superb, the UI is speedy, sometimes theres a stutter but most of the time its fast. Its lighter than the 6 Plus and smaller in dimensions of course. The S6 has a 5.1 screen.
Liked
I like the screen, the camera, the fingerprint scanner is now press like the iPhone. Touchwiz is a bit smoother.
Disliked
Mostly Android itself, Its a mess. Apps are inconsistent, the UI isnt that smooth and touchwiz is damn ugly!
Battery Life is horrible, heavy use will last half a day (7am to 1pm)
iPhone 6 Plus
The iPhone has been an awesome phone but theres phones with better displays and better battery life. The 6 Plus on the other hand is a different story. The display is clear, not as clear as the S6 but its clear enough, so no complaints there. The battery if god damn Amazing, its last from 7am to 12PM on heavy usage, normal usage would last a day and a half. iOS is super smooth, and apps are consistent and just work. Whats there not to love on the iPhone, sure iOS lacks in features but i do prefer an OS to be clean, consistent and feature lacking then an OS that is rushed, inconsistent and laggy. Also i knew i was getting updates because its Apple.

It seems you do, since aside from battery life, your only complaint was android. Not that there is something wrong with preferring iOS but lest be honest here.
With iOS i do hate you cant download attachments from emails like word documents, you cant upload files to google drive etc, sharing stuff has improved but still limited

There are many limitations to iOS. For instance, you can't download any type of file you want, like an mp3, onto your phone like you can on Android. These small nuances are why I don't think I'll be happy with iOS.
As far as battery life is concerned, you can optimise your phone so that it will last you the whole day. Check out some of the threads on battery life. I'm not a heavy user - mainly play WordFeud, Trivia Crack, WhatsApp, some light Facebook usage, Messenger, some web surfing, etc. (no heavy games) and I can get 36 hours out of this thing with about 4 hours of SoT.
Idk how people can think the battery life sucks... I get over 6 hours on screen time. Coming from an htc one m7 the battery in the s6 is wayyy better. I was golfing earlier and hook lots of pics and videos over 2 hours and my battery only drained like 15 percent.

Always good to have different opinions!
I think with battery life it would be more fair to compare the iphone 6 plus with the galaxy note series, since they are of a similar size.
I agree with your comments on iOS vs Android though. I will never go over to iOS, but I think there is a consistency to the UI (both the base OS and the apps) that isn't there with Android phones. The experience just feels more cohesive. That said, iOS is a lot less flexible.

Based on what you have written about these phones, I can conclude that you are a very simple user and yes ios is better for simple users who does not need any extra functions.
This does not surprise me at all that you like ios more. Good luck with your phone.
Keyboard, default browser and default maps are the really big problems I have with iOS. I also hate how hard it is to get root, and how that relies on exploits. I like Apple and since I'm not sure I'll root my S6 perhaps I will look again at iOS. I got my wife a Note 4 and that's the best comparison to the iPhone 6 plus. I dont think it is an easy comparison for the iOS device. The note 4 is very good.
I like IOS because of its smoothness clean UI but I want it loaded in an S6 kind of phone which is very impossile to happen.

Download booster
Material design in android
Extremely fast
This is just my own opinion and its biased, as I really dont like iphones
What I miss the most coming from an iPhone is the amazing battery life.
For being so open it's really amazing that android lacks a feature to choose which apps that are allowed to run in the background. iOS has a simple interface with sliders where you basically just pick which apps you want to keep running.
I always disconnect the charger right before going to sleep, and with the iphone I would wake up with 100 or 99% battery 6-8 hours later. With the S6 it's at 85%.
I would go back to the iPhone if it wasn't for the S6's camera. It's probably the only thing that's noticeably better.
I had the 6 plus and now i own the S6. Both solid phones.
6plus pros over S6:
-Battery life is outstanding
-Screen real estate for watching videos and just more space overall.
-IOS apps are really well optimized. Like twitter for example, i love the animation when you open that app in IOS.
-Consistent UI, No bloatware, Fully IOS.
-Imessage is Fantastic
6plus Cons:
-Even though the screen real estate is nice, the phone is big and can be uncomfortable to handle for many.
-IOS is just boring. The widgets are a joke, the customization is very limited, you can't download files, mp3 songs, torrents and all that.
-Bendgate?
S6 pros over 6 plus:
-Best display on any smartphone since smartphones were invented. Hands down.
- Arguably the best camera on the market
- 5.1 inch is easier to handle vs 5.5 inch
-Exynos SoC built on 14nm offers lots of power
-4K video recording
-wireless charing capabilities
-front facing camera with wide angle view
-Fast charge
-cheaper
-Android OS is very customizable.
-Touchwiz features
S6 cons:
-battery life isnt near as good as the 6plus. My battery life on the S6 is actually quite good but it will never match the big iphone's battery life.
- less screen real estate to enjoy media contents.
-slower updates
-bloatware
-less consistent UI. Lag?No. Minimal stutter? Yes, the android stuff we get use to. Not worth mentioning but im nit picking.
So there you have it. 2 solid phones. I like both personally. But im enjoying my S6 right now. Im sure ill get the 6plus S later this year or something else but right now its S6 time.

Props to the OP for coming out on XDA with this. It's a classic start to a flame war even though I don't think that was the intention. I struggle with whether or not to switch back to the Apple world of phones. The consistency is nice and things like Facetime - which works well - simply aren't there on Android yet (Google please fix Hangouts FFS). I do agree that the battery life is a mess on the S6 but it seems to be related to software more than anything. This is not unique to Android as several ios users are having problems with 8.2 and 8.3 as well. (Mostly) Google and Samsung will identify this and make the phone usable for an entire day without charging.
I agree with all the ops comments. I was an iPhone user for at least 3 years and loved every minute of it. Switched over to android because KitKat was the tipping point as it made android smooth enough with added consistency and the flexibility of the os locked me in. On whole I'd say iOS is more of a finished product where as android has always been a work in progress. I wouldn't place one over the other though.

Then there definitely is something wrong with your phone. I always go to bed with 100% and wake up with 100% if haven't got any notifications or so over a night, else it's 99%.
Yeah 85% sounds crazy. The most I've lost overnight is 3% otherwise it's 1-2% without any incoming notifications.

Sooo... here are my thoughts since I am directly a part of this "Galaxy S6 to iPhone 6 Plus" scenario:
My MAIN problem with the S6 is the battery life which is by all standards abysmal at best. So let me detail my feeling after owning a Note 4 (Snapdragon) for 6 months then switching to S6 for 10 days and eventually to an iPhone 6Plus for 3 days already.
6plus pros over S6:
- Battery life is outstanding. Ditto. Heavy usage (gaming, browsing, photo & filming, photo editing, all sync on on multiple apps, browsing the **** out of everything, etc) is 7 SOT on a charge and 14 hours of standby. A glorious 21 to 24 hours. A day!
- Screen is perfect. Guys, go beyond this market gimmicks and resolution wars! FullHD is, as of today, the best resolution to keep the a balance between what your eyes can actually see in a 5 to 5.7 inch display and the battery drain caused by the display (especially in daylight conditions).
- IOS apps are really well optimized, way more consistent than those on Android and of course more polished!
- Consistent UI, No bloatware, iOS just rocks in terms of simplicity.
- Photography apps are stellar when compared to Android, and I am here referring to those app types that you don't get in Android (e.g Mextures, Distress FX, Superimpose, Glaze, etc)
- Video processing available tools are just "WOW" (when compared to the available ones on Android).
6plus Cons:
- Godzilla sized phone that, because of the aluminum body, can only be handled OK-ish (I have pretty decent sized fingers) when using another "4mm adding width" case.
- The lack of notification light. Apple: **** your "wake up screen" notification system, it's LAME! By the time the phone is in no disturb mode you will miss 110% of your notifications (useful or useless ones).
- IOS is just boring and uninviting. The widgets are ... NO WIDGETS!, The customization is nowhere comparable to Android, you can't download files, .mp3 songs, torrents and all that.
- iOS keyboard put together with SwiftKey usually results in a mess: username can be entered with SwiftKey but the password field can only be filled in with the iOS proprietary keyboard. Bleah!
- Process intercommunication and data sharing among application (specifically moving a processed phone from one specific app to another) is both buggy (see Afterlight) and limited (you cannot share directly from any photo processing app to all the other photo apps).
S6 pros over 6 plus:
- Display is outstanding but nonetheless that resolution for the screen size is overkill (batter and workflow wise) and Adroid apps really make no good use of it (yeah Android, you know... usability!!!)
- OS speed: I never though I was going to say that but the latest update *G920FXXU1AODG* on S6 makes the iOS look like a bloody lazy Windows Phone OS & UI! Really, really fast, no lags at all! Absolutely IMPRESSED!
- Arguably the best camera on the market. iPhone 6 Plus camera is no slouch either (especially in the video department but the 8Mpx senzor it's just not there! Yet!
- 5.1 inch is easier to handle vs 5.5 inch. Correct!
- Exynos SoC built on 14nm offers lots of power BUT it's eventually to much for the battery.
-4K video recording though playing it back home is a PITA: no 4K TV and no 4K player in my courtyard.
- Fast charge. Though iPhone charging via the laptop USB port is way faster!
- Android OS is the customization itself and the WIDGETS are just calling for attention/action on the users behalf.
- Phone design is quite impressive.
S6 cons:
- Battery life is freaking BAD! The standby drain was almost perfect (almost!) in the latest G920FXXU1AODG with a 2-3% drain overnight (8-9 hours of deepsleep).
- The SOT + activity time battery is plain AWFUL! One example: playing 2048 game (lame on resources you know) on an iPhone 6 (not 6 Plus) for 1:40 drained 2% of the battery. On my S6, same daylight conditions, same time playing drained 13% which is plainly unacceptable. This is one thing I insist upon and I know that every Samsung loyalists (still in good faith and good brain condition) would accept is that the power drain while operating the phone (no matter what app you're using... could be just browsing) is just not optimized. It could be the HMP architecture of the Exynos as compared to the hot-plugging in Snapdragon that kills the joy of using this otherwise STUNNING phone.
- Sloooooooooooooooooowwwwww and undocumented updates (most of the time)
- Still bloatware is present but not to the extent it used to be in the past
- Less consistent UI and most of the apps just don't properly scale with the screen resolution which make things both look ugly and affect the apps usability!
That would be all for now on my behalf. Really missing the pocket-ability of my S6, the astonishing camera, the "fast and furious" UI and OS but eventually the battery life just killed it for me. I am a heavy smartphone user and as such I hate constantly peeping at my battery and fearing it dead by the end of the day!
I just home that either uncle Sammy or other enthusiastic developers around (hat's off for KTOOSNEZ) will be able to solve the BATTERY-GATE affair and I, personally, will get back to S6.
I pending between iPhone and Android. Don't really like ios except that it's so much more smooth and don't have any kinds of slowdowns when gaming or anywhere really.
Sent from a mobile gadget...
Really guys? Another comparison of these 2 phones which have been release with more than 6 months time!
Honestly the GS6 is a great phone but compared to an iphone 6, it doesn't bring much...
A new phone is suppose to be better but the small difference with an iphone 6 is just ridiculous!
The design is not as good as the Iphone 6, which is really comfortable in hand (and I don't even speak for the S6 edge), the battery is also not as good as an iphone 6....
The electric plug of the iphone6 is way better !!! No comparison possible!!! You can insert it very easily.
The screen has more pixels but still, pictures look better on iphone6!
However and also the main reason I will always choose Android rather than iOs is the software!
I can do pretty much all I want with this phone!
Cast the video I just downloaded with torrent on my smart tv...
Really easy file transfer between any devices...The list will be too long!
And for an Android phone, the GS6 is just the best one at this time!
To sum up I am really happy with this phone and hope that the overall design will keep improving with the future samsung phone.

Galaxy S7 - Regret

Back from days of Symbian, i have used many smartphones, recently i changed from iPhone 6s to S7, for a change, but touchwiz, or mess of uneven Android apps, lack of silky smoothness, and strange app designs, for example huge header of WhatsApp App, different font size in WhatsApp App's text entry box and bubbles text.
I was amazed reading this story by XDA, http://www.xda-developers.com/with-...delivers-embarrassing-real-world-performance/
wow i don't think like this alone, If i compare it iPhone 6s,
- this phone is not smooth, only Nexus is almost as smooth as iPhone
- even though its a mettle phone, but by looks its same as galaxy s3 bu looks, not by material,
- Its best in stutters, ugliness of software, among all Android Phones, with LG is close 2nd.
- display is good, but being an average user, i find it not different than the iPhone display in real world usage.
- better, battery is the only benefit i am getting from this phone
- with camera i only take pictures of samples and send them over WhatsApp, so both are same.
I feel Samsung must die or learn and make Android closer to stock, they are selling phones only due to marketing and good hardware. Even baby companies like OnePlus can implement Android better than Sammy.
Do you guys agree or think i am crazy!

I'd normally say it's just your own experience and opinion, but given the options you've presented, I'm going with crazy
I love my S7. It's the best phone I've ever had. Mine is butter-smooth, looks and feels awesome, gets an update every month and has an phenomenal camera. I can't agree with you about the screen either--it's worthy of all the praise that's been heaped on it.
Samsung sales and profits are up right now, and Apple's are down. Maybe it's Apple that needs to die and learn. I'm sure marketing is a factor, but in the end, Sammy is ticking all the right boxes for a lot of people.
I do agree with you about one thing though: I wish they'd ditch TW for something closer to AOSP Android.

Well its great, when you are satisfied with your Phone, if you say your touchwiz is buttery smooth, i feel you may have not used iPhone for a year or so, getting updates are fine, camera's of both phones are good for my limited use, me being not photo lover, screen, you can't go wrong with either. i can't see any advantage of this glorious screen over 720p of iPhone, as i never use VR.
i am not concern with Sales, by F**k**g users with touchwiz torture, they can't tick every box right, just my opinion, touchwiz torture alone, should give them Nokia Fate, my opinion. Not letting AOSP on this very good hardware is also very sad.
Even its my personal experience, i would want to stay away from Sammy for good, even couple of years ago i promised my self, i would never use non nexus Android, its just Google is too lazy to bring new Android,
Wish i could have S7 google play edition.
If I had to compare the S7 with the iPhone 6s, then the S7 would win for me.
Beautiful QHD display vs 720p and you say that the screen doesn't matters to you? The S7 has a bigger screen even tho they have almost the same size.
The iPhone doesn't has OIS "optical image stabilization", doesn't has microSD card slot, it's not water resistant and the basic 16GB version is more expensive than the S7 (at least here).
I think that the 6s is way overpriced for what it offers.
Also the new iPhone 7 will look exactly the same as 6 and 6s.
Ps my S7 is smooth.
I personally don't know what you're on about. I can't compare it to an iPhone, but I've had a Nexus 5 and a OnePlus One that I felt was a little faster. My S7 is just as smooth in the UI as either of those devices, and I used Nova launcher on all three. I can't make mine lag or stutter scrolling between screens, pulling down notifications, opening the app drawer, switching apps, etc.

You aren't crazy. I also came from 6S. I think it's all a personal preference and you would be better served with an iPhone. Simple.
For me personally, and while I partially agree with certain parts of the points you listed, overall an iPhone is like a kids toy compared to a robust pocket computer. So the trade off of slightly less polished OS on the S7 is well worth it. Just take Nova Launcher with gesture control and Tasker, just those two apps alone make Android about 1000x better because you literally can design your own way of interacting with your phone down to the smallest detail. But if that kind of stuff isn't for you, then I can see your point and like I said, iPhone just may be better. It's all a matter of perspective.

Thanks for reply bro,
- i never said screen don't matter to me, i can't stand cheap or inferior screen, like that of Xperia family, all i said what both screens are good and comparable in real life, specs of Sammy screen is higher, that is 2K, but by using both, i see no advantage of 2k Super Amoled screen over IPS 720p screen, in fact i find iPhone screen better due to more condense UI, you can have more text of WhatsApp in iPhone smaller screen then in larger screen of S7, You have thicker fonts on iPhone in twitter App and too thin fonts on Android App, obviously you can shrink or condense the UI, but according to me its not the same, like i mentioned WhatsApp text entry font size and bubble font size is different, is headache for me, no issue for you guys. These are fine touches which iPhone have and Android needs to avoid, though its App fault, Android App fault.
iPhone 6s don't have iOS, for a user like me its not required, i am keen on point and shot camera for work only, those who need iOS can us, 6s Plus, No SD card, people can get higher capacity, i only use 16 GB as i keep removing stuff always and never filled half the space mostly, Over prices, definitely, Sammy is over priced too, ask Oneplus, thats another thing, its price falls in no time bring massive loss to owner.
New iPhone will look exactly same, it must, it will mostly be smooth, hopefully, iPhone has its other flaws, like lack of sharing and transferring file, physical home buttom, which i dont like in sammy too.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to your needs i feel, for you S7 serves better, for someone, slick and smooth elegant UI of iPhone works better, even bigger size bezels of iPhone worked better for me, as i get accident touched on S7 when i try to use it with one hand, due to smaller bezels.

Thanks for sharing thoughts, I use Nova Prime, as soon as i get any galaxy, but tasker is not for me.
if a user need to root or use apps like tasker or greenify to make there phone work proper, then its not the phone for most you have to admit. To make phone work better, root, change rom, change codes, change this and change that .....
- Some people have business, others have jobs in life, kids and family, they get less time in life, to go forums and do all that, they need a phone, that mostly work and have less limitations, phone you are calling kids phone, all i need to do with that is just to stop the animations, and it becomes smoother, for those who cant alter there phones or who dont have time.
When i use to dislike iPhone, i use to feel you cant use bluetooth, you cant transfer mp3, you cant send a song over whatsapp now or cant receive it, then i found out sharing song over bluetooth is needed less, if needed can use dropbox share, can copy song over wifi or can easily share song vis whatsapp without jailbreak, iPhone found solutions, but Sammy is screwing me and the likes of me from galaxy S3!

I don't think you know or understand what Tasker does - it helps you automate string of commands or "tasks" that you would do anyway but it dose it automatically for you based on certain criteria like your location for example. It has nothing to do with tweaking your phone to run better or give you better battery life (unless you want that).
You buy the hardware with pre installed software.
You are responsable to customize the software to your needs!
You can modify almost everything. Also uglyness etc. goes away by that!
My Phone is really premium and with beautiful software, with all that modications.

Yes, tasker is not for everyone specially not for those, who were using iphones lately feel, dont have to use with iphone, sadly this super customize able phone has lost ability to change fonts without root, i want to use roboto fonts, or try iPhone fonts.
Only if iPhone was not over priced, iPhone could get more market or profit share then what it has currently, as many people cant use it due to price as well, in many countries like mine, we have to pay full price to buy phone, and i mostly sell current phone, add money and buy new.

I believe you bro, you basically mean if a user can modify his phone, then he can lay his hand on touchwiz, or he never used iPhone for long, or he dont care about smoothness, apps quality etc.
You sound confused, first you complain about whatsapp's font size, admitting it's the apps fault and then you blame Samsung saying that it should "die and learn".
Next you say that you refuse to use tasker or any other app to make the phone work "properly" and yet you use Dropbox for a simple file share, since Apple doesn't allow you to send files using Bluetooth.
And you find the iPhone's 720p screen better than Samsung's 2K? Its like me saying that my old Nokia 3210 is the best phone ever cause all I do with it is make phone calls and that way the battery lasts for weeks.

Well thanks for reply, but bro you dont read correct, i never said 720p is better than 2k screen, i said both do the job good, both are very good, if you hold both close to each other, both are very good, minor difference can be pitch black screen, according to my average eye.
I am not here to offend those who like S7 a lot, i was just sharing my experience, and i said for others it can be opposite, file sharing is an option, one can live without it, or can use dropbox or email or whatsapp to share a file, which everyone use no matter if he use, android or windows phone or iOS, tasker is a utility to make S7 work proper, dropbox is not a utility to make iOS work smoother, or make UI less of a mess.
Its not like saying anything about 3310, iPhone is a capable phone, dual core 1.4 cpu, 2gb ram, f**ks note 7 in every speed test you find on Youtube, thats another story and i am not interested in it.
i just have to stay with this phone for a while, i wish i can like it more, UI issues which i find little disappointing i can adjust with, i can somehow enjoy benefits that comes with it, like better battery, ability to use to Whatsapp, and few others, at cost of UI and smoothness. Since i dont intend to use phone again for 6 months at least.
Idea of this post is not to offend lovers of S7, i dont know why some folks cant take other peoples opinion about there love child, in fact opinion of XDA developers is same as mine, exactly same, if you can read the link i posted, only reason for the post was thoughts sharing and finding ways to improve the situations, which seems like impossible, even for XDA, even for them its the path of lenthy modifications and somehow magically fix the sh*t that sammy created in form of touchwiz.
XDA says reviewers always praise samsung phones, yet performance is always under par, even less then oneplus, and honour 8, which is bloated and a mid range phone.
To conclude this talk, and to end harsh feelings/heartaches, i would this is a very good hardware, only crippled by software in my case, as i am stock android or iPhone guy, i still remember i had nexus 5, i was so much satisfied, and mediocre screen of nexus 5 never bothered me much due to buttery smooth, elegant, non china UI.
You have to live with prons and cons of all phone, like we have to live with iPhone's as well.
I and many others like me should try to enjoy benefit of this phone and may be somehow we can like it, or when time comes switch it.
I cant root it to keep warranty, or replace roms.

I know that, but twitter App font is very thin, despite being at 560 now, but my main issue about inconsistent and less than elegant UI in comparison to nexus remains, is there any way i can change system fonts without root, i want ROboto all over the place.
usmanxhmed said:
Well, you are the one who is fanboy and confused and can't hear a word against your Love
I said iPhone screen is better, not in term of screen quality, but in term of UI, which is part of screen over all experience
- fanboys like you deserve to stay on china type touchwiz for life, keep buying Sammy and they will keep screwing you with China UI
- iPhone screen better because text is smaller but far thicker, i can see more text in a UI
- Twitter and WhatsApp shows more and clearer text in one screen even being smaller, which makes it easy to carry around, yet more contend
- Uniform applications, elegant and consistent layout.
So screen is a combination of over all UI, unlike you common man is not a screen pixels doctor to calculate 2k pixels and keep saying wow, its 2k not 720p, for a common man, both are almost same as far as screen quality goes.
You should not stay in this thread any ways, its not for small hearted fanboys, getting hurt about other negative opinion about there beloved phone.
In my opinion and official opinion of XDA, Sammy does not know how to make a software or even a skin, they take slick Stock Android and pretty much f**k it up from galaxy S1, still selling phones.
But if people like you are satisfied with it, then its fine, they must be doing it right now, other people can use nexus and iphones or even at times HTC if they can reduce screen to body ratio.

You have a point. As an ex-ios uset, and loads of android owner (including nexus 5, s6, s7 exynos) i find iOS better in terms of:
- general smoothness
- games load time
- way way better memory managent than android (with 2gigs of RAM it outperforms android with 4-6gig)
- better battery life per capacity (iphone 6s 1750 mah vs galaxy s6 3000 mah)
- in general ios operates at cooler temperature
I really wish android to step up in all above. I am keep using android because i don't like to be limited in apple ecosystem (anyway, ios evolved in good direction, making the OS more versatile and customizable)
Right now I am usint Good Lock which changes many elements of SystemUI. As a launcher i am using the official Google one, and it does occasionally stutter when scrolling between screens. Also I am using the condensed screen mode.

Moving from iphone(6) to android - very confused please help!

Hi guys!
Like I mentioned in the title, I want to move from IOS to Android but I am very confusing, I dont know what to choose:
Galaxy s8? HTC U11(only 4 GB?!? It have a huge different between 6 and 4?) Oneplus 5(with the 8 GB)?
I want a phone with a very good camera(very important!!), build quality and fast phone without lags is very importantly me..!
Thanks!!

I would stay away from OP5 worst phone they have brought out and overpriced, U11 very nice but still not up to par with Samsung in my opinion. S8 is beautifully designed runs smooth and has the best camera of the lot. Keep in mind I tried the OP5 and Xperia XZP before my move to S8 :good:

Your iPhone 6 had 1 GB of RAM and having 4 GB on a new phone is a concern for you? RAM difference isn't enough to pick one phone over the other. It is the user experience that plays a great role. So here is my take on this:
1) If you want no lag, fluidity, clean user experience, nice camera - pick HTC U11. Has SD Card slot. U11 is the better overall choice (IMO)
2) OnePlus 5 is also a fast phone, should have no lag as well. So 6/8GB, won't matter, but there is no SD Card slot for memory expansion. Keep that in mind.
3) Galaxy s8 may look better, more futuristic and just easier to hold and type on it with one hand. It was important to me that the phone would be narrow enough. Has SD Card slot.
Thank you for your feedback guys..
My worries are:
In the OP5: the camera reviews are not good! The camera is (at least from the YouTube reviews) is very bad and this is one of the important things to me.
About HTC: It can hold more then a year? If so the HTC is very strong fighter .
About s8: from the YouTube reviews the phone after a month or two have lags often( I think it is something that is whell known in Samsung's phones.
And the screen ( that is look amazing!!) is very scaring me because of his delicacy, and the red colors on the screen.
User experience is very very important to me, lack of lags and good camera, it will be grate if there guys here with one of those phones(after the buzz, over a month or two) that can tell how the phone after a while.
Thanks!

had the phone since day one (24 april i think), and yes, it wont be as fast as the htc or oneplus, but it will smoke your iphone 6 so if you are use to that, this phone will impress you with speed and smoothness (coming from a previous oneplus 3 owner), camera is the best, maybe lg g6 rivals it because of that amazing wide angle lens, but besides that its the best in the market, the desing is the best in my opinion cant really judge that tho. but if you buy the s8, be careful, because the screen is very fragile(broke mine in 5 days from a 0.5m drop on the floor)
What about the pinky screen?

" but if you buy the s8, be careful, because the screen is very fragile(broke mine in 5 days from a 0.5m drop on the floor"
You had any screen/back protector? If not which screen protector and back will be good?
In addition, the curvy screen is nice? Or annoying? The "edge" style.
Get the Google Pixel. It has one of the highest rated cameras in a smartphone DxOMark, bloat free software for a smooth user experience, and updates come straight from Google, so you aren't waiting months for Samsung/LG/HTC so push out the latest android updates. if you can wait a few months, the Pixel 2 should be coming out around October.

I believe HTC U11 is the best overall choice for what you are looking for. Their UI is fluid, the software optimized much better, the battery life is good, camera is good - the list goes on. I had U11 and if it would be as narrow as S8, I would have kept it.
Where did you bought the u11?
I saw that the 6 GRAM is available almost only in Asia, the 4 GRAM is enough?
About the google pixel, it is 2016 phone that coast like 2017 phone?
Thanks

I bought HTC U11 on htc.com and 4 GB is enough + you are not going to be using the same phone for over 2-3 years anyway.
Unless you plan to root your phone (not sure if correct term) I do not suggest Galaxy S8/S8+ because of the "always on home button" (even on lock-screen). Major issue with an ocean of requests to disable it. It basically turns your screen on and opens a bunch of apps in your pocket, although the only issue I have is when taking the phone out of my pocket. If you plan on getting a flip-cover, that won't be an issue. I would myself, but for me it's important to just slide my phone into it's holder in my car.
I have my iPhone for almost 2.5 years
Anyway, I like how the s8 look and feel but the lags that he have are very annoying (I saw him today morning in Samsung's shop.
I didn't saw the HTC or oneplus but I think I will order the HTC
Actually, I switch phones every 2-2.5 years plus.
Anyway I think I will take the HUC, I saw to many issues with the S8, I wish the oneplus 5 have better camera.
If you're iPhone user I would suggest going for S8.
All others got almost stock android which may by is 'fluid' but looking soooo 'ugly' and missing a lot of extra settings which are on S8 platform- touchwiz. Camera- very comparable apart s8 got F1.7 what makes it winner for me. You can install Nova launcher to make it buttery smooth- better than my previous IP6 plus. Samsung did very nice job, sms messenger, email, dialer, settings look so elegant and smart.

I would stay away of android if I could. Try to borrow S8 and play for some time. You can deeply regret your decision once.
Most of the S8 bought by IOS users fooled by ads end on the ebay or gumtree.
BTW: I'm S8 user. since April..

People always complain this it the attitude of our century hihi but s8 is really nice phone. I had few tries with Android and I can say S7edge and S8 are winners. All 5.5inch Iphones lags as well but with Android you are not a slave of the operating system. You can change launcher, widget, setup default app, clean cache. Did you know there is a bug with Spotify cache on ios? Cache getting massive and to fix it you have te reinstall app instead of just hit clear data from settings. 2017 and Spotify can not sort it out because Apple is locking access to the specific folders. Lag? Within the phone setup there is a lag but now while daily use it almost gone. BTW this was the most annoying thing bothering me as well. You will love this phone.
not really

It was the best I could buy with Android onboard. However looking forward to see the new Pixel.
Phone with S8's screen and size, running stock Google Android (no bloatware, including also Facebook and Twitter), with no annoying Bixby button and fingerprint placed in less idiotic position, could be the winner for me, even better than iPhone.
Was trying to switch back to IOS just before buying S8, but couldn't move one finance application and its data. This is the reason I'm forced to use android.
To summarize: I'm happy with S8, it's not a perfect, but still regret decision to switch to Android couple years ago.
OK, sound bummer, tell you the trough, the fingerprint button it is a manner of time, but the issue for me is camera and no lagging phone, this is why I so confusing between the S8 and the HTC, my wife have the lg G5 and I hate his OS it is pretty bad so this is why I didn't think about the G6

If you could (for free), would you switch to Galaxy S8+?

I'm switching my Galaxy S6 Edge after long using it and I have 2 main choices: OnePlus 5 (128 GB version) or the Galaxy S8+
The main reasons for me to choose the OnePlus are the faster and cleaner android performance, even though I'm a Galaxy user since the Galaxy 2 I never liked the bloatware and the oxygen OS looks wonderful.
The reasons for taking the S8+ are... Well everywhere I searched and almost any review by people who used them both are saying that it is the best android smartphone there is.
Except the reviews, the camera and amazing display and quality are much better.
After a couple of days, and hundreds of video and written reviews and comparisons I still couldn't choose so I decided to ask here, after you've used OP5 for some time, if someone approached and offered you to switch your OP5 with a S8 for free, would you do it?
Please note that cost is not an issue, here in Israel the S8+ costs about 300 ILS (about $85) more than the OP5 and i can afford it if it's worth it.
Nope. OP5 has far superior battery life, it is faster and dash charging is amazing, more ram and storage and basically Stock Android! The S8 has a better display but I'm OK with 1080p (didn't think I would be coming from 1440p phones) as I don't care about VR. Also, better updates and more frequent to date.
I switched from the S8+, the near stock Android is unbeatable for fluidity and just quality of life. Everything seems more iOS like on stock (or near it) Android. And when I say more iOS like I mean the good things about it, such as the fluidity and overall polish.
I switched from the S8. OS is light-years better. I don't need all the gimmicks and love quick updates. Portrait mode is a plus for taking pics of the family.
I'd trade, try it out for a bit, then sell it for another phone lmao. Maybe a Z2 Play or Mi A1. Who knows?
S8+ is a nice phone but all that Samsung bloat I can't deal with
You probably should ask that question in a more Samsung friendly thread because people here are obviously going to be biased. The OP5 is better if you are into rooting or customizing your phone. But it also has terrible camera software --I could take better low light pictures with my $200 Samsung Galaxy J3. The other thing Samsung phones have going for them is the build quality. I've never owned a Samsung phone that broke before I was ready to replace it. I don't think the OP5 has comparable build quality. But if you like to root your phone and flash custom kernels and ROMs the OP5 may be the best phone on the market.
For the looks yes, I came from a s6 edge+ and my girl has a normal s8, but for overall experience, speed and stuff I would def choose the 5, and if I want looks, I just hold my girls phone for a few sec..
They could pay me money on top and I would never come back to Samsung!
As you may have noticed, most of oneplus's users (including me) see the OP5 as a superior device to the s8.
Most people are not buying this phone because it's cheaper.
Coming from an s4, I was considering the s8 and the oneplus 5. But I am going for the OP5, because I think it's the superior device.
S8 is a good phone but I cannot live with Samsung's software
I haven't used Samsung devices much, but simply because I am able to mod this (custom ROMs, kernels, etc.) with virtually no bloatware and heavy skins (such as TouchWiz) makes this the better option for me.
The S8 does have a nice design though, and from reviews/feedback, seems like it has a better camera as well; but that isn't enough for me to switch over.
The 5 is a great device and I think if you choose it, you won't be disappointed!
Considering the fact that I'm switching from the LAGGY S8+ to the OP5 then I guess the answer to this would be NO
I could go either way except for the fact that I need dual sim cards so I don't have to carry 2 phones. I used an s8 for a couple weeks before switching to the op5. They both have there pros and cons which have all been touched on here. I won't switch but I would be happy with either phone. I think the s8 design is prettier and more impressive but the op5 is easier to use.
I like both.
As stated they both have their pros and cons...
S8+ has got a brilliant camera, sd card support and a heap of hardware features to explore. There is always things to find and surprise. Bixby is a little hard to use unless you have a US accent, I find it doesn't understand Aussie to well but it does learn.
The 4gb of ram is noticeable when you hold the Oneplus up to it though.
Oneplus doesn't have sd card support but does have dual sim support. You are stuck with the internal memory you buy so make sure you account for that. It is quick with 8gb ram and easy to flash/theme and mod .
In the end it depends if you like to be able to change roms and mod easily, though the S8+ isn't too hard after bootloader unlock (you just destroy any chance of Samsung honoring your warranty) or like to play with some cool little features you may or may not get over.
It will ultimately come down to you and how you use your device...
Just to be clear here, asking a dev forum of dedicated phone owners how their phone compares to the "competition" is not really going to get you anywhere. Most will fight tooth and nail defending their vaunted purchase and you will get a very biased opinion...
If you don't believe me, ask how it compares to an Apple... Now I've let loose the cat amongst the very heavily armed pidgeons...
I chose OP5 over an Exynos S8 because Samsung's software is the worst and I've been burned too many times. Price didn't enter the equation.
Same. Money wasn't the deciding factor for me. I had an S6... the ritual of disabling all the bloat got old. Too many gimmicks. Plus lots of RAM makes me happy.
I'd post in the S8 forum and ask why they chose S8, see what their responses are, and see if you value those things.
Home button and phone unlocking is way better on the OP. Infinity display is nice but also very fragile. I went with the OP5 instead of the S8 for these two reasons and never regret. This phone rocks.
Coming from an s6 then the s8 for a couple weeks, the home button is really nice of have. Both phones have equally lightning fast fingerprint sensors. The op5 would be much less likely to break if you accidentally drop it it.
Only big issue is Facebook Messenger is still freezing a lot when typing or just sitting idle. After several updates it's still problematic and it's only happening on my op5. I started just messaging on my old HTC m9 which still works fine, as did the s8 and s6 and even an s4 I just sold.
A Google search hasn't helped so far and I'm away from home on vacation without my m9 so it's getting frustrating.
Other than that it's been basically flawless.

[Off topic] For how much did you sell your s4? Thinking of selling it but I'm afraid nobody wants it for a good price (~100$)

Moving from iPhone to android

Dear all ,
Good morning.
I have been considering selling my aging iPhone 6s Plus and moving to android.
Mainly because of stale design(same as 3-4 years ago) and horrible/laggy/battery draining updates.
So about taking a dive back to android.
Before i got my 6s plus i had s7 edge. While i did like the phone overall , i had one major deal breaker for me. Heat.
I do not like a heating phone. I would use s7 edge for 20 minutes surfing the web via wifi and it reached 32-34 degrees (ambient temp 26). iphone would stay cool even if i browsed for hours.
So, my question to you guys, since you already posses the device, is : does the s8 plus behave thermaly the same as s7 edge ~~~clarification : In my area only the exynos variant is available.?
I cannot compare it to an s7 edge because I did not ever owned one but I can say no, absolutely not. I came from iphone 7 plus to the (normal) s8 and dont ever had the feeling that my device gets an uncomfortable temperature. During basic tasks like browsing, downloading and testing apps, whatsapp&facebook and so on it is "cold" - at least for me. Even when playing light games like clash royale (only game I play now and then) it doesnt come to an uncomfortable temperature, maybe 3-4°C warmer. The only situation the s8 gets really warm (and by warm I dont mean hot) is when charging through usb or qi, but I think this is physically unavoidable.
Personally, I don't have an S8, but I used one for a couple of hours and it gets pretty warm.
Thank you guys!
Just a clarification : In my area only the exynos variant is available.

yes, here in my area (Austria) is also only exynos available
My S8 definitely heats up more with pokemon go compared to my iPhone 7.
By the way, if you think an S8 will get you out of lags and battery drains, read the threads in this forum from other users complaining the exact issues.

the s8 has also nearly four times the pixels to push than the iphone 7
and my s8 doesnt lag at all after 7 month and I have a custom rom on it, which I have heavily skinned and customized
s8 gets hot only when you fast charge it. Other than that its pretty cool.
Thank you guys! Awaiting more of your experiences in orderr to make an educated purchase!
Bump
Only while gaming and charging. Regular surfing, media playback or socializing has no impact cool as a breeze.

get an iPhone X Plus if you're used to iPhones
MicI wouldn't recommend S8 or S8+, maybe Note 8, but I think you'll be happier with an iPhone X Plus if you're used to iPhones. Personally, I don't care for iOS at all. Android is way better than iOS, but I really think you'll like iPhone X Plus.
Note: Your experience with an Exynos S8/S8+/Note 8 might be better than mine with S8+ Snapdragon, because it really isn't convenient to have a locked bootloader and a rooted phone that only charges to 80%!
No lag so far on my phone, I came from the S6 and that used to heat up a lot (so much so I could use it as a hand warmer on cold days, and some times I could not hold it to my face on calls).
My S8 has stayed cool, it has only gotten warm once or twice, and that wasn't very much. I regularly surf, use social media, play Vainglory and Mobile Strike. I also stream to my TV every now and then and it's been good.
I have the regular S8 on Oreo Beta 2.
Thank you,
So far it seems that s8plus does not have the same thermal attitude that exynos s7edge had.
I am tempted to make the move soon.
I've had my S8 for 3 odd months now, but I'm not a gamer, I've never had it heat up, I had teh G6 and iPhone 7 prior to this but hated the image quality of the iPhone, just a mushy mess when looking closer, the S8 is in another league IQ wise. iPhones are beautifully built but the S8 is equal to it these days. I'm very happy, I rooted my S8 only this week and am loving it, 60 odd hours between charges, 6 hours SoT (actually want much less before rooting) nothing more I could ask for. Superb device.
I also love my s8 and I also dont think I will upgrade to s9 when its released.
it has a small form factor (compared to other devices with that screen size), a gorgeous display, wireless charging, stereo speakers (with mod), is fast and snappy, has one of the best cameras, is water resistant,...
This phone has all I want and need
everything except the stock android ui experience. if this would happen one day, I think samsung phones would win another like 20-30% of "potential customers that are yet afraid of moving to touchwiz. I themed it as best as possible to stock pixel ui and I can live with it. Maybe samsung is making the move slowly over the years to go away from their playful icons and settings ui and closer to stock like sony or motorola/lenovo did.
Imagine the s8 with stock android - noone would buy pixel 2

I agree, if it was stock and updated with the latest OS like the Pixel 2 (it will get more OS updates than through Samsung), then the Pixel 2 would have very few sales.
