NON STOCK ROM : how bad is the battery drain with second screen in AOD mode ?? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

(sorry if this has already been discussed before)
I like my second screen in AOD/standby mode to read the time, notifications, battery level ...
I recently received my second $110 lg v20 h910 from aliexpress and was ready to get to play with a lineageos based ROM (I find my stock based rom a little bloated) but I read ( https://www.reddit.com/r/lgv20/comments/agefj5/lineage_151_second_screen_not_turning_off_when/ ) that there is a MASSIVE BATTERY DRAIN on ALL the NON STOCK roms with second screen support in AOD mode when the phone is in AOD MODE ...
Could somebody please tell me how bad this battery drain is on these ROMS (lineageos 15.1 and resurrection remix with second screen support) ??? Does this make these roms unusable ??
Also it seems like development has stopped on these roms ... is that the reason why ??
(I know that there is a lineageos 16 rom with notch support for the second screen but I understand that it doesn't support AOD mode for the second screen, right ??)
Thanks folks for your lights on this subject !

Its not bad enough to make it unusable, but for me it was enough to make me have to charge twice a day instead of once. The problem is that the LG V20 has an LCD, so the whole backlight needs to be lit to be readable.
From what I get, development has stopped because the Devs are putting in all they can into Pie based roms.
Pie based roms don't support AOD, once again because of the backlight. If I understand this phone correctly (Correct me if I'm wrong, happy to learn), the backlight is split into 2 pieces, one for the second screen, and one for the rest. LG Roms used just the second screen part.
I personally love the Pie roms, dont even miss the second screen. Yeah, it was useful, but not something that made a huge difference.

Thanks a lot for your answer ! :good::good:
Then I guess I am going to try LineageOS Pie on my test phone to see if it's worth it while staying on Nougat Alpha Omega on my daily driver (On Nougat Alpha Omega I like Zacharee "mod control" to tune the battery size in the second screen, etc ... and I am not sure if this "mod control" app is working on Oreo Stock based roms ...)

[Q] Oxygen, ICS, CM7 and Official

Not being able to post on the Development sections cramps on my style a bit, but I have a couple of questions:
* First of all, I am still on Oxygen, do you guys think there's any good reason to switch? I like Oxygen a lot and apart from a couple of issues (see below) I've been very happy with it... Will dzo ever show up again and merge the new drivers into his release?
* Have the camera and GPU driver from the official 2.3 been ported to any other ROM?
* I've been seeing a lot of ICS related ROMS in Development as of late, is there a fully functional ICS ROM yet? What's stopping us, since it seems almost every other device is making some progress with it (i.e: having hardware acceleration enabled, radios working, etc.)?
Problems with Oxygen:
* Light Sensor behaves strangely: for example, with auto brightness enabled, turning on or off the light in my room makes no change in screen brightness. If I put the device close or directly under a lightbulb it will only then begin to change. I can confirm this with some sensor testing apps. Is there any way to calibrate the light sensor?
* Microphone acts strange: I have never seen anyone report this, but when I connect headphones, then try to use for example voice dialing or voice commands it will not work (wait forever) or simply give an error. If I disconnect the headphones after I tried to use voice it will never work again unless I reboot. If I connect headphones, never use voice, and then disconnect them and use voice it will work as it should
* Signal Strength very irregular: I live in a area with difficult reception, but signal strength is insane, sometimes is goes from 0 to full bars like no big deal
* Camera's FPS very jumpy (new drivers will fix this?)
* No access to internal storage: I knew this going in, but still...
* Flash videos sometimes green and overlapping the screen. This happens with both the YouTube app and any video player that can play FLV. It only happens from time to time and I can't reproduce it.
I went straight from stock (TMN Portugal) to Oxygen, never messed around with any other ROM (I tried CM7 for half an hour or so) but these little things start to bother me, plus it breaks my heart to know that the camera and GPU could be much smoother just by using different drivers. It also scares me that Huawei disabled the standard method of installing Recovery and rooting, so I'd prefer not to upgrade to the official ROM right away. So, is it worth to change ROM at this point? Can you help me with any of my problems with Oxygen?
Hi!
I tryed "all" ROMs I found here in XDA, Oxygen for me is not enough, it just lacks of "options" I love the Cyanogen Settings, you can do a lot of customizations there. Im on custom ROMs for 5 months now, never had a problem with the phone itself. Strange rebooting, camera stopped working and drainage of the battery does NOT count in here. I would suggest you try CM for more than a half hour since - in my opinion - it is the best. I hate the original Froyo, because it lacks of customization. So MIUI is not an option for me, it is just to simple. I was thinking I know all about flashing, but yesterday I just bricked my u8800, simply because I did not notice the + on the end of the official 2.3 update and installed update for u8800+.
My suggestion is, to follow guides here on XDA (they are excellent) and try all the ROMs, and see which one suits you best.
I'm also very happy with Oxygen, I'm still on r1 and have no major issues at all, so thank you very much dzo!
But I hope for the future that dzo will continue to update this rom so we can get better drivers for camera and other small fixes. It looks like the official rom will never be an stable option for us...

Anyone else feeling bad for having this phone?

Hi guys, I'm the owner of this device since december 2016. I was very happy when it first arrived, it was smooth, responsive, everything worked just fine and I was very happy with Xiaomi.
Later, Xiaomi just launched Redmi Note 4 and then my nightmare began. I was always searching for new MIUI features, and as such, I've installed as soon as possible a Custom MIUI China rom, like xiaomi.eu or MIUIBrasil.
Everything was just going well, but then I've noticed that Xiaomi released MIUI 8.5 on many devices with new features, and our device began to be a little "left behind" when it came to updates.
Later Xiaomi introduced MIUI 9, with the new features and so much more improvements, however, after MONTHS waiting, our phone just got a MIUI with and Android 6.0.1 on IT, they didn't even thought about updating to Android 7, on the excuse of hardware limitations (Oh yes, let's remind that apart from Camera, our phones are EQUAL to Redmi Note 4 in specs), anyway, I've already tried a few AOSP before, and now I thought that this was the time to give it a chance again...
However, with so many ROMs out there, I just thought, OK I'll try some before picking up one to be my daily. And then it began... OK, the first thing I missed from MIUI was the ability to record calls and block calls by choosing numbers from contact list (without having to type then manually), second, Network Type Dialog, which on MIUI I could see only three options (LTE, 3G and 2G) this saves battery and on my Country, my mobile company simply have a bug on their network, and if the network type 4G is selected when data is disabled, it will charge your phone anyway, everyday for using internet... (THAT's RIDICULOUS).
Another thing is the 3 finger screenshot, yes they're present I know, but on MIUI everytime you do this, the screen "freezes" and if its a list, it won't scroll, the same thing doesn't happen on AOSP, when you do Three Finger Screenshot on a list, it scrolls before taking Screenshot.
However, one may ask, Why you're not on MIUI then, if you like it so MUCH?
Ok, I'll answer this by explaining that, I CAN'T
Yes, you read it correctly, everytime I use a MIUI (I've tried many, MIUI Stable, MIUI China, Xiaomi.eu, MIUI 8.6, MIUI 8.3, even MIUI 8.2) and on ALL of them I have the same ISSUE i'm going to report now.
RANDOM REBOOTS after installing Magisk + Xposed combo.
When I got my hands on this phone, as I mentioned early, EVERYTHING worked like a charm, it never rebooted once, Xposed and Magisk were playing nice together, I could use modules from both Magisk and Xposed, and phone was amazing, but now, with newer versions of Xposed and Magisk, it doesn't work anymore.
OK, if I knew what combination I've used in the past, I could simply try them again, but the thing is that I don't, I don't remember which version of Xposed Framework I was using when everything was fine back 1 year and half from now, neither the Magisk version.
So I'm stuck with either using MIUI and having phone rebooting every now and then (it doesn't even REBOOT totally, it just doesn't turn on screen anymore and if you put screen against source of light you can barely see the BOOTLOGO animation Stuck, like if it were burned in on screen, it's weird) or with AOSP lacking many features I found useful on MIUI.
TL;DR I'm very displeased with this phone, with how XIAOMI forgot it and how frustrated I am because I can't use it properly, I can't customize it as MY OWN, and I just wanted to use it without rebooting.
Well that's all, just wanna share that and know if anyone else had the same feeling.
Best regards
1. You can use 3rd party app to record calls on aosp. With proper searching, you can get exactly what you want. For the blocking numbers from list, how often do someone need to block a number? It's a very minor feature.
2. Yes, there are more options to choose network, but choosing only 4/3/2G is still there.
3. About the three finger screenshot, yes aosp does it bad. But, you can use custom shortcut to take screenshots, even gestures like 2 fingers side swipe, which I use on Mdroid.
There's work around for almost everything, if you look properly. And if you like things simple, surely you'll miss out some things.
I feel bad, because I can no longer go back to a regular battery sized phone
I feel exactly the same
Xiaomi abandonned us
Luckily for me I gave my markw to my sister (she doesn't care about updates ) and got myself a mido ( redmi note 4)
But I miss my 4 prime it was the perfect size note 4 is too big. And battery life is slightly less with mido
I know how you feel about custom roms.
There is always a way to fix your problem with them but it demands time to find the solutions to bugs/ non-existent function ( custom rom is not for lazy person ?)
With miui you had almost everything in 1 package
( But miui also had so many problems)

[SHARE][MAGISK][SOLUTION] Android Pie slow screen wake fix

Hi there!
So as you might have noticed the number of Android 9 (Pie) ROMs is gradually increasing while they are based on beta android version causing the created ROMs to have plenty of bugs. The most noticeable one that all Pie custom ROMs suffer is presumably the very slow screen wake issue. While it cannot be completely eliminated due to Google that firmly says it is an intentional feature it can be noticeably decreased.
This mod enables always on display feature in Pie ROMs this way halving the wake time your device needs after pressing the power button or DT2W. It was originally created for the Google Pixel XL users who had the same problem.
It's been tested on Official Pixel Experience Pie ROM r10 and works flawlessly. It's your choice to try it on your custom Pie based rom and see what happens. Either way I take no responsibility for it. If it wouldn't work as intended or causes issues you can remove or disable the module through Magisk Manager. It was worth a try for me

Advice ROM choice [G900F]

Hello,
as the object I would like an advice on the choice ROM for my G900F, no matter what version Andoid is, the important thing is that it is fluid, stable, light and low battery consumption.
Currently I have the latest stock firmware with root and TWRP.
I saw this ROM, what do you think? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2741302
Thank you all for the support,
Alessio

You may want to try out AEX Pie, currently have it installed on my G900F, battery life is fine. Everything's working apart from the occasional WiFi (just unlock screen for it to turn back on automatically) or Bluetooth cutout (which is fixed by turning BT on and off). Barely happens, I'd give it a go if I were you.
Otherwise LOS 16.0 would be a good choice as well.
Camera's working 100% on both ROMs though I'd recommend the A2 camera (thread here on XDA) as it is nicer to use and the quality is slightly better.

louis.. you have the point exactly..... there seems to be no rom that makes the fone work relaiably, i dont care about features animation whatever, but fone bluetooth etc has to work reliably. "battery drains when fone off " so so so bad the rom cant be used like this. Ive bought 2 new 5g fones recently, the note 4 is way easier to use cause things like big led alert light. The latest missed message alert using aod on xiomi on many models only gives notification for 10 mins !! and 3rd party apps break on updates. please let me know and provide link if you find a note 4 snapdragon trite rom that makes the fone work reliably, and runs around android 9 so that modern apps like my soundbar setup will work.

louis, just so i understand, what exactly is the problem with getting a reliable stable rom, has something changed since android 9 aand 10 released, or did they never work properly? and is this a general rom problem, or is the 910f snapdragon difficult in some way? .. so if i load a custom rom onto my samsung ace 4 willi have the same problems, As said, for £150 can buy fab new 5g fone, but no permenant missed message alert led some no 3.5 jack , sd storage, infra red and of course removable battery. The most annoying is no PERMENANT missed message alert. Its difficult to find out if a particular fone have this or not from the helplines. (For others, the latest mi 11 lite 5g is max 10 mins aod, "permenant" does not exist on the settings menu. and 3rd party apps break on updates )
Actually, I am no expert so I don't what issues are there with new roms, but indeed they are not usable on a daily basis.
