Bootloader locked on xt1680, wiped phone - cannot install stock rom back to it! - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

My friend has an odd phone. I believe it to be an XT1680 - the latin american model.
Prior to this issue it showed in the device info as a moto g4.
We suspect maybe it had a tech or service rom flashed to it at *some point*
The IMEI listed could not get him an unlock code. The IMEI on the sim tray however did.
He tried to unlock the bootloader and in the process wiped the phone. So now he's stuck with a locked bootloader and no OS on his phone.
How do we salvage this?
We've tried reflashing several different firmwares, but with no luck. The motorola rescue tool does not recognize his phone.
English is his second language (He speaks it fantastically well!) so I told him I'd post this to get him started.
Thanks guys, I want to see this phone function again!

XT-1680 is a G5 Plus so device info showing G4 is odd. Unlocking wipes data not the system partition. Also you don't need an unlocked bootloader to flash firmware files. Fastboot might show some error. Is it booting into fastboot? Try flashing the latest firmware. What firmware was it on before trying to unlock.

Motorola X style Xt1570 OS issues

HI I have just been trying to return to stock my XT1570 Motorola X Style.
Originally i unlocked the bootloader and rooted the original 5.1.1. software.
Later the OTA update came out and i cant get it as the phone is rooted.
I did have backups but have lost them now.
The boot loader is intact, the TWRP recovery is there and I can access it.
I flashed a new system using fastboot this system "fastboot_clark_retcn_ds_user_5.1.1_LPH23.145-7_7_release-keys-cid11-retcn_CN.tar" which i believe should be the correct one for China.
The phone boot normally, the warning about unlocking the bootloader and then the motorola graphics, but when all that is done the screen is just blank, the screen is obviously on, as you can see the back light, but it is in the totally black state.
Anyone got any ideas what has happened there.
I have tried flashing other roms for XT1572 and XT1575, however while they work to an extend, obviously some of the internals for the XT1570 are different, modem for instance.
Some expert help would be greatly appreciated.

Observation regarding the vk410's locked bootloader.

Forgive me if this has been covered already; I did my due diligence and found nadda regarding this. Anyhow, heres the observation: If you take a vk410 and flash that test 4.4.2 kdz to it, you can unlock the bootloader via the fastboot oem unlock command. Then, you can flash back to 5.0.2 lollipop vzw rom and retain the unlocked bootloader. HOWEVER, with fastboot apparently missing or disabled in 5.0.2, it seems impossible to properly test this. So, for sh**s and giggles, I did this, then flashed BACK to the test rom again so I could see the lock status @ the fastboot menu, and presto its still locked. What usefulness can be had from any of this? Probably nothing just thought I would share with ya'll heh
lk410
I was wondering the same question
I have the same tablet on at&t, with the lg logo on the top (at&t variant) and I used the test kdz to go back to 4.4.2.
Also, partition #33 (userdata) was labeled "grow" and I was missing 8 gigs of space. The bootloader on mine was not locked by default tho

HELP P10 Lite BRICKED?

Hello, I'm new here and I'm not english so I'm sorry if there will be some errors.
I have a P10 Lite, 4GB ram 32GB storage. Model WAS-LX1A. It was branded TIM (an italian provider)
Somedays ago I unlocked OEM from settings and Unlocked the Bootloader, then I tried to flash some ROMs that I found here on XDA, everything was fine but when I flashed the ROM, it left me with a blackscreen, so just today I tried some this tutorial to flash back to stock, kind of. It worked, but every 2/3 minutes it restarted. I saw on the thread that one of them had my same problem, he said that he solved with HwOTA7, I was following HwOTA tutorial but I had FRP Locked because of the Back to stock process (i still had bootloader unlocked), i saw that to unlock again FRP (that i need for HwOTA) was necessary to relock bootloader, i locked it, but since then my phone boots only on the TWRP that i installed from the "back to stock" tutorial, and i have bootloader and frp locked. i cannot unlock bootloader again because frp is locked. please help.

US997 US Cellular/BRIGHTPOINT Bootloader Unlock Solution??

OK so I need some help...
When I originally purchased my LG G6 in June of 2019, I made sure it was a US997 model, but I ended up getting a BRIGHTPOINT version during my purchase. I went through the website to check the imei and the device ID and it gave me the not unlockable status.
After that, I went and decided to update the software manually to US99721e since it wouldn't OTA it and have been on that ever since. Now, I just recently tried while on the 21e software and I was given an unlock.bin code!
So if someone could help me out:
IF you're on a US997 BRIGHTPOINT G6:
-Download LG UP and UpperCut
-Download US997_21e_01_0211-UCL.kdz at lg-firmwares.com (this is the one I'm on, try this one first!)
-Once it's done, enable developer mode, adb debugging, and OEM unlock
-Go through the unlocking process
Please let me know what you find out!!
Is that only for us cellular?
Sent from my V60 ThinQ using XDA Labs
I have a brightpoint LG G6, which I bought as the seller claimed it was an unlocked US997, failing to share it was a OEM phone. I don't understand how this works please can you clarify? I tried the unlocking process and I have to supply my phone information to LG. Their database says it is a brightwell phone and so they won't release the unlock. Are you saying that after installing this ROM I don't need the key from LG to unlock the bootloader?
I have installed Uppercut and LGUP (1.14 as newer versions don't seem to work). I downloaded the ROM and I have the LGUP loaded. It shows the phone using US99721a. I have 4 process options, Refurbish, Upgrade, FOTA upgrade or Phonesettings which is the one to use?
It works! At least I obtained an unlock.bin file from LG. I need to work out which is the best LG G6 US997 ROM and how to load it when my SD card doesn't work. Any help or pointers to useful information much appreciated. For anyone else trying this here is what I found. I downloaded the LG windows drivers and LGUP 1.14 (There are newer versions but these don't work with uppercut. I downloaded Uppercut from XDA website and then you run Uppercut not LGUP. This immediately caused my virus checked to block it as it contains a trojan. I didn't like that but googled to find others had the same issue. There seems to be a way to load the correct file to get LGUP to work directly and I would recommend researching that but I disabled the virus software and proceeded. I used the UPGRADE option in LGUP - you need to reboot your phone into download mode. To do so, disconnect USB cable then Power off the phone completely. Now hold Volume Up then plug in USB cable at the same time. Make sure that LGUP is NOT running when you connect the USB cable and start it once you are in download mode. It loads the ROM very quickly and takes a bit longer to reboot and then it needs time to upgrade android as you have a 6 months newer version of Android 8. Then follow direction on the LG unlock site https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev. You will need to install ADK https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools unzip after you download. LG emailed my unlock code immediately.
Yes, I can confirm that it works with the US997 model now. I already was at version US99721e so I didn't have to jump through the hoops to load this version. I went through the steps to unlock the bootloader via the LG developer website and voila, got sent the unlock.bin file, too.
Now I am pretty sure that I tried that in past perhaps 1-2 years ago and it didn't work, so perhaps LG has secretly flipped a few bits in their database to allow unlocking for these not quite brand new devices.
I just applied the unlock.bin and got the "cannot check for corruption" warning on the boot screen. So this is working - fantastic!
Now have to restore my device from the LG Backup I made before and put on the SD card.
I had tried the unlock last year but I didn't retry before I updated so it may have worked anyway and the update of the ROM wasn't needed. I unlocked the phone and installed Sky Hawk recovery but when that starts it asks for a deception password and nothing I have tried works. I'm not sure if that is a real issue or I can continue safely with flashing a new ROM. Has anyone worked through this issue?

First, when you're in Adroid remove all screen lock mechanisms, you can re-enable it later.
Enable USB debugging, do adb reboot bootloader and fastboot flash recovery with this recovery instead (rel_o2):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g6/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-fixes-t3722199
Do the button combo to launch recovery. If you're in recovery, first reformat /data (you have to enter "yes") to get rid of encrption and after that flash the anti-root removal tool mentioned in the post. Then reboot into recovery and then flash Magisk and/or your ROM of choice. Note that I have only used this with stock ROM and Magisk and not tried any custom ROMs, but the thread has plenty of people having also tried other ROMs.
How do you even know if you have a Brightpoint device?
I found out when I tried to unlock. http://mobile.developer.lge.com/
Thanks for the info. I'll dig into this once I know for sure that a version of Android 10 is available to load into the phone.
What I've been dealing with so far keeps asking for a 15 digit IMEI number. My phone only has a 14 digit value.
I pulled box (yes I kept it) and discovered that the IMEI is 15 digits. No idea why the value is the phone truncates the last digit. The site that checks IMEI numbers says that it is the platinum edition: US997PL. Gee, the box says that.

Unbrand an LTE Tab A Sprint unlocked sm-t517P

Hello, I am trying to unbrand my LTE Tab A from Sprint SM-T517P by flashing another CSC, or flashing another PIT on a patched version of ODIN with no success.
Can anyone tell me how to do it properly? I have read about Chimera, and Samkey, but they are too expensive, and I worry about bricking my LTE tablet (do not want to root, and there is no root anyway).
Any help?
I made little progress. I think I got the latest correct firmware for it downloaded, but it didn't want to flash with a patched Odin, but it did flash successfully with a non patched version of Odin.
After that, I tried flashing a CSC from another firmware of an LTE that is unbranded (SM-T515), but I always get a SECURE CHECK FAIL PIT error.
Does that mean I need to unlock the bootloader? Is that even possible? I wonder how Chimera, or Samkey is able to change CSC thru just software, but they are too expensive for me
Any help?
I soft bricked the tablet by flashing the AP, CP, and CSC of the latest firmware of International unlocked model SM-T515... I was able to recover by flashing its latest firmware for SM-T517P.
I worry about hard bricking it, but after so many tries with different things, I feel so close
Flashing only the CSC of any other firmware hasn't worked so far, and flashing anything other than Android 10 Q doesn't work either, even after unlocking bootloader.
I have NOT flashed bootloader of another firmware yet, super worried I may hard brick it if I flash another BL even after unlocking its bootloader.
hmmm i dont think there are many modifying the sm-t517p. i also own one of those on t mobile . i wanted to add twrp and root ....i cant seem to find any version made for it...so onto the magisk played with thatfor a couple days and locked it up a few times ...i think for now ill be okay with no modding ..idk why im compelled to screw p a perfectly fine working tab-phone. i did however just see that kali linux can be run on it without messing the os up..maybe ill ry that next... why did you want to modify yours? so you could switch carriers im guessing? luckily for me t-mobile took over sprint........just curious
bootloader unlock...
Unlocking BootloaderUnlocking the bootloader on modern Samsung devices have some caveats. The newly introduced VaultKeeper service will make the bootloader reject any unofficial partitions in some circumstances.
Allow bootloader unlocking in Developer options → OEM unlocking
Reboot to download mode: power off your device and press the download mode key combo for your device
Long press volume up to unlock the bootloader. This will wipe your data and automatically reboot.
Go through the initial setup. Skip through all the steps since data will be wiped again in later steps. Connect the device to Internet during the setup.
Enable developer options, and confirm that the OEM unlocking option exists and is grayed out. This means the VaultKeeper service has unleashed the bootloader.
Your bootloader now accepts unofficial images in download mode
