The "cleanest" possible Custom Rom - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hey guys
I have a dream.
In my dream, my device runs only the bare minimum in order for all its hardware work, without any kind of apps from samsung pre installed, any google garbage pre installed. software wise, I dont botter with customization. I really just want to have the system with everything it needs to work, a launcher and basic apps (open source), nothing more.
Ive tried running lineage OS 16, but fingerprint is broken, and I cant cryptograph the system.
Any clue in how I'm gonna do this?
Any guide of what cant be removed/ unistalled?
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm bringing this up again because it matches my question perfectly.
Im new to the Android-Family and want to flash my Active Tab SM-T365 with a Custom ROM to get rid of the hole Bloatware that came with it.
Anyone has any suggestions?

In my experience, it's often more stable to root the stock firmware and then remove the bloatware (using Titanium Backup or Link2SD). That way you have a rom that's tailored for the device and you don't have issues like the camera not working on custom roms, certain video codecs that aren't supported, ...
Unless there's an official CyanogenMod or LineageOS for the device.

That is what I want, but can't seem to get it done. The newest Magisk is not working. Older versions aren't. Anyone got it done? Just need root to get storage rights for external SD for Syncthing..
ok, got root working now. used the "old" way, supersu, for an old ROM..

S8 ROMs for NFC Card Emulator (writing to NFC config file)

I'm looking to use the NFC Card Emulator app with an S8 to emulate my apartment's NFC access card.
I've already done this on my Pixel with no issues--all it really needs is root. But with Samsung phones it's a bit more complicated since apparently Samsung stock doesn't allow you to write to the NFC configuration file, even with root. Supposedly it is possible with a non-stock ROM.
So, before I go on a possible trial-and-error ROM flashing spree, I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any S8 ROMs here that would work for this (or if anyone is actually emulating NFC now and if so, what ROM are you using to do so). Many of the ROMs are stock based, and I'm not sure if that would entail the same limitations on NFC writing.
Cheers

The Xposed one? I hope your have an exynos cause it doesn't work with any snapdragon rom as they are all based off stock

No, it's standalone on the Play store. It can use Xposed to broadcast NFC with screen off, but doesn't need Xposed to work. My Pixel is on stock 8.2 beta 2 and obviously not running Xposed, and the app works just fine so long as the screen is on (even without unlocking). I have my elevator access card written to it so I just tap my phone to use the elevator.
The S8 that I'm trying to replicate this on is one of the Exynos chip models, it's the G950FD. On the app itself, it warns that Samsung devices on stock ROMs won't be able to use the app because Samsung locks the NFC config file, but that any non-stock ROM (and they give Aurora ROM as a specific example) will work fine. Aurora ROM says that it's based on "Samsung Experience 8.1" which I assume means that it's stock based. What I'm wondering is, does that mean I should be able to use any stock based ROM (as long as it isn't actually just stock) and have this work.

Really, I was thinking of that specific app as I installed it from play store. When it didn't work I apparently mistakenly assumed it was due to Xposed when it sounds like it was due to the stock s8 ROMs NFC bits. Good to know! Thanks for the info.
Did it work after all?
Is there no way to do this?
I really want it

Really guys i need help! I'm not an expert installing stuff, but i've been trying to help my gf moving apps to SD, with android assistant, deleting cache, uninstalling apps, and only have necessary stuff. I do not auto-update apps.

I was planning to downgrade to stock CHO 5.1.1 ROM J500MUBU1APF1 but i think the problem will persist.
Can someone guide me to a good stable rom that deletes all the garbage that comes with stock like Opera,Knox, S fuc.. Health? Things like that. I was hoping the stock rom rule is always better will work here but you guys knows that this cellphone is poop.

Hi there
Well if you care too much about stability and battery save i prefer you to use sep8.5(there is also lite version of this rom that)
But if you look for more space on internal strange and have latest os i prefer to use bootleggers or linage os pie
All of these rom don't have unnecessary things and are great and tested by my self many many times (it's just fun and new experience for me)
And you can also install all your apps and your apps's cache to your sd card(but it should be great and powerful)

Thanks for your reply.
In essence i need, all the default standard stock apps like radio, messages, gmail and camera etc everything working stable what i don't want is garbage like extra games or browsers like opera/chrome, things that occupy space on the internal storage.
If there's a custom rom with android 5.1.1 that works fluently i prefer that but if there's a custom rom with 6.0./7/8 and so on that works stable/fast with the J5(2015) hardware well i would try that. Which one you recommend with the stuff i mention?
Oh! another thing, can you confirm this are the ones you mention before:
Sep8.5: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/rom-sep-8-5-galaxy-a8-2018-rom-t3796971 << this is the 8.5? looks like 8.0
Sep8.5 Lite: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/rom-sep-8-5-lite-galaxy-j2-2018-rom-t3821600
bootleggers: ???
Linage os pie: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j5/development/unofficial-lineageos-16-0-galaxy-j5-t3851124
Really thank you for taking the time to guide me.

s7 rom?

hello,
i'm looking for a ROM, that everything works. Everywhere I read, this or that doesn't work.
I'm looking for something that isn't too old and everything works without a problem.
it is not necessary to have android 9 or 10.
Thank you in advance for your answers.
Someone?
I can't guarantee that every single thing will work but blackdiamond n8 is a fantastic rom. You can choose which bloatware apps you want and other settings

Then stay on stock rom its the best one that fits your criteria..
Also depends what you exactly need custom rom for.. you need often to sacrifice on somethings to get another ..
At this point.. if you are new to rooting and custom OS scenario, i recommend staying on stock.. because it is now more complex procedure and gives far more problems sometimes then it gives benefit. Imho the benefits of rooting/custom OSes are degrading slowly to the point where its just a useless hassle..
But ofcourse its everyone's choice.. you want to live on the edge by trying new OSes/new things/features you are free to do.. just make sure you know how to do everything safely, and backing up the vital data, like copying your nv data (the first thing after gaining su access), knowing the correct/safe procedure and please DON'T "ACCIDENTALLY" turn oem unlock off..
I personally recommend gaining su access by SYSYEM LESS methods plus magisk in order to avoid dm verity errors and encryption problems.. it also makes it less likely to mess with your nv data..
See alexndr's system less dev base and custom rom.. its based on stock 8.0 too (i think its all stock) and also stable too
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/rom-dqd1-devbase-v4-1-multi-csc-safe-t3591647/
OR if you want to live on the edge.. backup your nv data and try custom roms like black diamonds, hyper rom, deluxe rom and any other which is being actively updated/supported.. try and find your taste on your own and report problems on their threads (every rom has their problems)
But i would either root stock "system lessly" or flash alexndr's custom systemless OS devbase

Should upgrade back to newer custom ROM?

I have a S8 that runs Hadesrom android 10. Like literally everything works, I mean iris scan works, somehow got play certificate instantly and Samsung health and secure folder working fine, so everything fine except an issue on Samsung pass which I zero care about.
It would take a while until android 10 is fully out of support, but I heard some people are already upgrading it to android 13 and even to android 14 via custom ROMs. should I do the same too? many thanks
