Camera zoomed in. - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I have a problem with my camera. My camera is zoomed in by default; I think the wide angle lens is damaged in some way.
- I slipped into a jacuzzi while holding my phone, dipped it in for a second or two. After that it got some problems with touchscreen etc. but I don't remember having problems with my camera yet. I let the phone rest in rice for a day or so and the problems i noticed had gone away.
- I tried installing the camera2api. Had a couple problems with rooting and had to abort the non-magisk way, since that wasn't working. Tried it with magisk and it worked.
After an update, which I think was for the system, magisk or something else, the camera was zoomed in by default on every app that used the back camera. The selfie camera is fine. It's more that I can't zoom out to the point i was able to before.
I tried installing the latest miui rom which was available yesterday to see if that would fix my problems, but to no avail.
All I could find on google was that: "That is normal. Mi A1 has a native 4:3 front facing camera, while Snapchat use the 16:9 potrait aspect ratio; in order to get a full image, the app will cut the 4:3 frame to fit in 16:9" But in my case this also happens in the stock camera app.
If you guys can help me, that would be great.
I've linked a couple photo's of my settings:

I've just tried hard resetting my phone. No changes in rear camera max zoom out size.

Camera has really bad colour bands - Everyone or just me?

Hi,
I've had my Universal (XDA Exec) nearly 2 months now, but in the last few weeks I've noticed the picture quality from the camera seems to be REALLY bad. Whilst I appreciate these devices are nowhere near as good as dedicated digital cameras, I don't remember it being as bad as it is now.

Is this normal?! Yes, I also realise that indoors pictures are worse than outdoors, but the room I took the picture in is VERY well lit.
I only really noticed the difference after I did the ROM upgrade from the older O2 ROM (1.15 I think?) to their newest 1.30 ROM on their website, but I since downgraded it again and I've had the same problems.
Just really wanted to verify if it's just me or everyone and whether it's just always been this bad and I've not noticed or if I do actually have a fault with mine.
Thanks!
The camera is dump. playing about with the settings for day, night, auto.... might help a little, but its a waste of space imho.
JAmes
Does yours suffer this horrible colour banding as well then?
with due respect YES the camera IS bad on the universal BUT definately NOT as bad as yours. I would say there is somehting definately not right there.
Thanks. I'll speak to O2 about getting it repaired/replaced. [] Pain really everything else is working perfectly, but now the camera has gone from "ok" to completely unuseable.

How about makiong sure the resolution is say 1m pixels and the setting is superfine!!
If its still the same then your camera is broken.
My previous device only had a VGA camera and no flash - so coming to a device with 1.3m and flash is quite a bonus. It would not replace my normal camera - but I am pleased with the quality of the camera attached to the universal.
Matt
the camera is usable for day to day use though not ideal. The picture you posted is horrible and the cam isn't that bad. Try a hard reset or something like that
I've tried quite a few hard resets (including clearing the storage) and it's always the same. The preview on the screen itself looks like that too. I would post a 1 MP Fine picture as someone suggested, but it looks the same.
Was really just trying to work out whether it was just me or everyone and I think it looks like it's just me. Thank you all!
here. This might give you an idea how it should be
HTC Wizard Camera Patch?
My camera isn't as good as ADY's, but much better than Xanth's
Does anybody know about the HTC Wizard Camera Patch?
It's in the universal download section at buzzdev.net (so I presume it works for Uni)
http://buzzdev.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,100/func,select/id,37/orderby,2/page,2/
it says: HTC CAMERA PATCH, by t-mobile. Improves camera quality of your phone - exposure, colors and removes blue speckles.
I installed it, but nothing seems to happen, maybe my existing SW is more up to date....
Thanks.

[Q] Unknown symbol in stock Gallery

Hello everyone,
I've started to notice that when viewing some images in the stock Gallery app a symbol appears over the image (and also in folder view). This seems to be related to images with a specific ratio between width and height, but I wanted to ask if anyone has a more detailed explanation of it.
TL;DR: Help, my Gallery app is playing tricks on me.

It looks like panorama.....or maybe the movie view thing in Apple products.
I've forgot to mention: tried tapping, holding, frowning at it, but to no avail. Doesn't seem related to any motion feature/eye control, etc.

it simply says that the pic is a panoramic picture
That's what I was thinking, since it needs a specific ratio between width and height, but it applies to any image with that ratio (not only panoramic photos taken with the camera). Problem is, it stays there all the time, and sometimes I have to zoom in and out and move the image around in order to read the text in it.
Can it be disabled? Or what's the purpose of it, really? I can tell by myself that it's a panoramic shot, no need for it.
Thanks.

You're on panorama mode. Click on mode and select a different mode.
Sent from my fingers to your face using my Samsung Galaxy Note 3!
No, I was talking about the stock Gallery app, not the Camera. Still, it's not in Panorama, but Auto.
That symbol appears in the above mentioned conditions only in the Gallery, regardless of the Camera settings.
But thanks anyway.

Google Camera Photosphere`s blurry

Hello
I love the Photosphere function of the Google Camera.
Iit seems the camera have trouble to focus.
Every seconds "point" I capture is blurry. I think its something with the focus.

Anyone have a Idea how to fix it?
Is it maybe a Kernel Problem?
Once it was working properly...
Thank you
I have the same problem. Weird.

Now I Installed Android 4.4.4 CM11 (UB),
And Photosphere works very fast and great again. But the CM version is not very stable.

Works fine on my phone. It would have helped if you posted some sample photos here so that we could see what you are referring to i.e. full resolution pngs here or at least a direct link to a photo rather than a page on some third party hosting site. The EXIF information would also have been invaluable.
The two most likely causes would be movement or show shutter speeds. Have you tried a tripod in a well lit room? Did that make any difference? When you did a forum search, did you find anyone else reporting problems (and what keywords did you search on)? More information and in particular sample photos would garner more useful replies.

Hello
I have been using Photospheres for two years.
Now with CM11 its working as it should again.
It seems like the Stock Firmware was causing this problem on my S5.
Now it captures very fast and sharp.
Before it was impossible to make a photosphere. Almost every snapshot was out of focus and I had to recapture maaaany times.
Now the Photosphere is working fast and without focus problems.
https://www.google.com/maps/views/view/114377602391908907492/gphoto/6054044742624950402
I`m happy with this results.
But the Google Camera App crashes often now. Sometimes while rendering the Photosphere the camera crashes and I loose my Panorama.
Hope with further CM11 updates the camera will works stable.
I have the same problem, but it is difficult for me to switch to CM, is it possible may be to use CM camera driver with stock firmware?
I have same problem with Lollipop
Same problem in any ROM . stock 6.0.1 , cm 14 and RR 5.8.1 with any version of google camera 2.5, 2.7, 3.2, 4.1. focus blurry, in one photosphere 30% or more shots. that is BIG problem for me.
I really need help to solve this problem.

Camera starts to blurr on increasing distance after 30cm from object

Untill i was using MIUI everything was fine but after I flashed lineage OS 14.1 camera quality is decreased but still it was fine. Then i tried different gcam mods and flashed a couple of zip files in hope that camera will became better but it's quality is totally low now. Even i reverted back to MIUI to see if that fix the issue but still its persisting. I have tried Miui Stock Camera, Bacon Camera, Open Camera all having the same issue.
About Issue : On taking a picture from distance it becomes blurry the more I increase distance more it will become blurry. Picture starts to blurr after moving the camera away more than 30cm (i know it's hard to believe)
Check the screen shots and plzzz help me...

I think, thats your camera problem Not the rom / apps problem.
Yes your camera isnt using focus just flash some zip files for focus and it will work again thats the cameras focus problem
It happened with me, i had to disassemble my mobile and adjust camera module a bit to get the focus right.
Follow this guide on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcLhQtdzY4A, its not for our device but you can have a loot at it for a reference.

0.6x camera not working

Hey, got my 9T today, everything seems to work fine all but the 0.6x camera which doesnt seem to do anything. I can switch between it but there's no difference to a regular 1x.
Tbh the whole default app is super buggy.
Example: I switch to 2x camera, then I take a pic but tapping the gallery button does nothing, then I try to take another pic and the whole app freezes. Then I looked into the gallery and there was no pic there at all.
Please tell me if this is normal, at first I thought the 0.6x camera thing might be a hardware issue, but its really not just the 0.6x camera that's buggy. The whole app is unstable.
Anybody else having these problems?
Also, if I try to use the "Portrait" mode in the default camera, the app closes with this error:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

Only issue I have is when coming back to the camera app from the RAM, the viewfinder doesn't work unless I change modes
Well after a bit of testing it seems that only the middle camera gets used during the process. Even switching to 2x (whuch works btw) seems to only work from the middle camera.
Any input is welcome. Cause I've got no idea what's up.

No problem on my Mi 9T, switching between cameras goes smoothly and there's a noticable distinction for each camera. The stock camera app also works perfectly fine, the AI mode adjusts automatically depending on the ambient environment.
Have you tried hardware test at *#*#64663#*#* ?
I had the same problem with my mi 9t pro, two weeks after i bought it the portrait and wide angle cameras stopped working. I tried reset factory and it didn't help and the camera was like that for about 20 days until one day the phone was on the table and i accidentally dropped it, I don't know why but the first thing i checked to see if it was working was the camera and magically wide angle and portrait cameras were fixed!
I think your issue is GCAM
You should test on stock camera to point out a hardware problem.
I've got the same problem with the 0.6x and portrait camera on my k20 pro. Did a search online and found a few people with the same problems on their k20's/k20 pro's. I've tried factory reset and flashing a different rom but it still doesn't work, the hardware test doesn't work either. Hoping that there is a solution for this...

The 2x camera is only used when the scene conditions are just right. On many cases (for example, when there's poor illumination) the image is way better on the main camera.
It is an old thread, but any updated here? I got the same issue.
