Coming from Pixel 3 XL.. I know the P3 is the best camera around but... WOW the OP7 pro has a really bad camera. Pictures are out of focus, portrait mode sucks, I tried the GCam mod still horrible photo quality.

DxO Mark gave it a good score. Either the software update OnePlus gave them to test is going to be amazing or DxO is a little biased

Yeah which is one reason I gave this phone a shot. But there is not way this camera like this scored a 111 lol that's a joke!

Welcome to oneplus

DxO Mark is a joke. ????

Yeah you dont buy this phone for the camera. You buy it for the performance.
Maybe gcam will make it better over time or a software update but if camera is your number 1 need then this isnt the phone for you.
Oneplus should have ditched the three rear camera system and gone with a single great camera. They need to go back and perfect the fundamentals.
It's a missed opportunity from Oneplus.

First,
Thank you for both pictures, you've easily made your point. That overexposure is pretty killer.
Second, what kind of VW do you have?
EDIT: Saw the GTI on the steering wheel. That overexposure distracted me too much to notice lol.

I'm really hoping their software improves. Can you guess which camera app I'm using on my OP7? Hint: one of them is Gcam with nightsight and the other is stock cam app.

Guess? That's like asking which one is black and which one is red. I hope it improves, BUT I'm happy for the GCam port and its capabilities.

Can you post one with the nightmode on the op7 and with the gcam nightsight? Or was that really the op7 night mode on the right? If yes, then holy moly that's bad. I hoped they would be on par with last year's Huawei p20 pro, but I guess that's too much to ask for

Looks like DxOMark was using a software release that isn't public yet and is supposed to be released later in the month
https://www.dxomark.com/oneplus-7-pro-camera-review/

OnePlus should of waited to release this phone when the camera is updated.

Please note: The camera firmware used for the DxOMark tests is not yet currently available to consumers. OnePlus will make it available as an over-the-air update before the end of the month.

so basically, the OP7Pro on DXOMARK is different than the ones everyone is using, until the software is released we cant really discuss the camera since DXO mark showed over-exposure was more pronounced on the S10+
so i expect that VW picture where the OP7 blew out the exposure would atleast be fixed.

FWIW, Oneplus representative denied DXO on that on their latest AMA.

Well they might fix it with the next update. Wasn't it supposed to drop anytime soon?

Where did you buy it from? Can you send it back?
Thanks for the great review! Very helpful.
I really am incredibly tempted by this phone, after hovering with my finger on the checkout button for a couple of days I decided to hold off.
1. The Mi Note 2 due to be announced in 5 days is shaping up very interestingly and may not be too different a price point
2. There's still no TWRP. The standard 5s had a port in a few days but the delay and lack of outrage makes me cautious there's not going to be much active development outside of MIUI and coming from a Redmi Note 2 I wouldn't mind a change.

Got it from honorbuy.com
Not sure if I can send back as there's no manufacturing defect with the phone it's just that camera sucks.
Bought it for camera but noisy and no bokeh is a deal breaker
Samples below.
HDR, auto and stereo mode in that order. I have to say HDR is very slow. If you shake during the photo process you'll have blurred picture. You'll notice auto is noisy!
I am thinking to change g4 (bootloop issue) with one of Xiaomi phones. Was very tempted to buy 5s plus or 5s but will settle with MI5 Pro....
Why you getting mi5 pro?

prying open a phone to replace cameras is not fun (at least not for me) and there is a very little guarantee that it would work as firmware needs to be adapted. Better live with it or get phone you love (tested Huawai Honor phones and they have awesome dual cameras) than getting stuck with one you dont like
Ther's an app compatible with this camera? The stock can't Save raw photo..

Someone told it can't have Bokeh because one of the captor is monochrome but now the Huawei mate 9 is out and it has Bokeh with a monochrome captor so maybe Bokeh will come in a software update?! I want that too.

No not exactly. I wasn't referring to actually talk about Meizu Pro 6 device but as others have been talking about DOF bokeh etc. I just wanted to point people at checking how they've done it on the Pro 6 device. The DOF seems to be so very good that you'd feel you've got a DSLR with f2.0 lens. At least it seems so impressive. I'm not sure about bokeh in such situation. Wehther they've simulated round diaphragm or any other shape. I suppose a completely round one would be the simplest and would also look best and most professional as more expensive pro lenses use diphragms with many more blades than cheap ones (5 or 6). And these become apparent in bokeh situation.

Selfie quality

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I took a few photos with it, I absolutely love the front camera. I was told it has OIS which explains the clarity despite my movements.
Only draw back is the lens doesn't seem to be as wide as the V20, which was something I really liked, I can capture a wide selife without having to resort to the Note 8 "panoramic mode" that requires you to take a picture and sweep across.
The V20 front camera is not as clear or as sharp as the Note 8 front camera.
I'm noticing that my picture quality is not as good as my s8+ it's blurry where in the s8+ those parts are crystal clear.. so I'm confused.. but I think the camera is not as wide as my s8+ ethir the menu on the s8+ is clear and the menu on note 8 is blurry

For some reason I am not satisfied with the quality of the front facing camera. Not sure why but pictures don't seem to come out that clear and always seem a little blurry. IPhone X front facing camera definitely much better quality. Initially I thought lens was dirty but don't think that is the issue.

I have to agree with you. Front camera is not good at all. My dead Pixel XL did a better job by far. I don't know if it some hardware or software limitation. In case of software, Samsung could come with a solution. Photos looks preatty washed out and some times blurred

It won't be the same bcoz U11+ is running with Android Oreo with new camera driver, not only the camera.apk got updated.
Love your reviews!
I' overlapped some of your photos and IMO u11+ is a bit sharper =)
I've also checked the U11+ vs. Pixel 2 video and downloaded the original size of photo. If you view the photo on a large computer monitor, you will find that Pixel 2 HDR+ isn't real better than U11/U11+ in all conditions.
U11/U11+ auto HDR+ will try to keep the black level and tend to reflect the real lighting environment. The google HDR+ will just bump the dynamic range and bright up the photo though it is real eye catching but not realistic in some scenes. The same result been found when I'm using the ported pixel2 gcam on my U11. I'll call both HTC and Google HDR+ is 50/50, in day light I more prefer HTC HDR and only use Google HDR in real low light. I recommend to buy U11/U11+ bcoz we can use both HTC HDR and Google HDR and in HTC pro mode, you can adjust many settings which the Pixel 2 won't give you access to it.
I real like the Pixel 2 mainly bcoz the 5" smaller in size and will get a camera upgrade later when the google image chip being active. During video recording, Pixel2 EIS+OIS is real nice but U11/U11+ got four microphones just blow the Pixel 2 away when it comes to the audio quality, nowhere near the U11/U11+ level.

And off-topic since you already own an HTC U11+, is there a significant improvement in battery department? I would be interested in your average SOT.

One of the review from HK said that the U11+ camera got a noticeable improved focus but I think after our U11 updated to 8.0 will get the same improvement too.
I like the pictures on the u11+ better, they look contrast-richer and also it looks liek the camera is able to focus better, you can see that some of the u11's pictures look a bit blrry in comparison to the ones on the u11+, hopefully HTC will issue a camera update for the u11 as well, one can only hope! :fingers-crossed:

Yea, couldn't agree more with the quality of this camera. Way too soft even tho the object is just in front of you. Lack of detail compared to Redmi Note 7 stock cam which I had before. I just hope that this gets resolved with OTA.

Same for me. I really enjoy the Photos of my OP3 with Gcam 7.2 very much, everyone is astonished about the quality a 4 year old 450€ phone can achieve.
It's just too slow, takes 30 seconds after 2 shots to process
So far, I had no time to test the OP8T, but tomorrow I hope my wife and me can make comparison shots with OP3 and OP8T, both with GCam. The macros that you can achieve with of the OP3 and GCam are really amazing, you can see single hairs on bumblebees.
Why did I not choose a Pixel 5?
1. You can't buy it officially in Austria and they cancel illegally purchases from Austria in the German shop
2. Google support is the worst of the worst, while OnePlus has fantastic support, easy to reach.
3. You get so much more raw power in the OP8T than in the Pixel 5. While the Pixel 5 is good for anything it does today, it's CPU is 1/2 to 1/3 of the power of the 865, so in ~2 years it will already have problems with some software
That said, the pixel camera software is unbeaten and If there would not be Gcam mod, I had a Pixel.

Why?
GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.1_Wichaya_V2.7.3 - normal vs OP8T stock (Oxygen OS 11.0.1.2.KB05BA

PS: GCam 7.4 also works, but missed HDR+ so far.
Aux cams (wide, macro) don't work

Hey
Can you please share the gcam link

Anybody managed to get a good enough picture with the macro lens? For me the macro camera is really poor. I mean, like 2005 used to have better camera than this, the photos are very unclear and grainy every single time, pretty useless. The main camera is good enough and the Ultrawide is ok, usable. But the other 2 are really a waste of space. imo.

Last night there were clear skies for 2hrs, so I used that opportunity to test out the astrophotography feature on Google Camera. Both photos were taken from the same position.
1st photo - main lens
2nd photo - wide angle lens.

How is the camera on this phone? I really want to buy one, but i'm not that convinced about the camera, from what i've seen in the reviews. Currently i'm using a Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Can anyone tell me how this two phones compare in camera quality?

Don't buy this phone for camera. It's not worth it. Better get OP 8 Pro which has IMX 689 sensor.
