Does Google Authenticator gets backed up with everything when we do adb backup -all? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Ok guys this is the first time I will try rooting my phone (Oneplus 5) and I would like to know if adb backs up also the google authenticator settings so my 2fa keys come back with TWRP after I root the device. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

hey there, you cant backup/restore google authenticator, what you can do is start using Authy and import your 2fa into that instead of google authenticator which you would be able to backup and restore without any issues

How to unlock 4.4 bootloader without losing data?

I should have waited for the OTA update!
After updating my N4 with 4.4 factory image, it has been restored to the factory recovery and lost root. How can I unlock the bootloader again without losing data? If this can't be done, how to back up all the data (Apps, music, photos, etc.) and restore them? Thanks!
You can flash OTA updates using stock recovery, you don't have to unlock bootloader or root to do it.
There is no way to unlock bootloader without losing data if you haven't been rooted. If you have root, use BootUnlocker: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.segv11.bootunlocker
If you want to back up without root, either go to "Settings -> Backup & restore" and enable back up and sync your device. Or use Helium app and install the PC companion program: http://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon

Thanks a lot for the kind help! I really appreciate it...
Under Settings, I do have "Back up my data" checked. Now, I want to make sure all the data (apps, passwords, settings, music, photos, etc.) are truly saved before unlocking the bootloader. Where can I find them saved on Google server?
Also, how about the specific settings for those Apps and SMS messages? How to back them up? Titanium?

It only backup your apps data and restore it when you reinstall the app. It won't back up other things, music and photos youhave to copy from your device to your computer. There are other Google sync services that backup your contact, photos, etc. You have to check (its in your Google account menu in the phone) to see what Google is syncing for you.
Maybe you can use Google Drive to backup stuff from your phone. I do not use cloud services so I can't help you.

I answered your question, use Helium. Titanium Backup required root.

I just installed Helium on my N4 and my Mac. Does it allow backup to my Mac computer? Even though the Helium on my Mac says that "Carbon has been enabled on your Android", when I go to Helium on my N4 and start to back up, I don't see my Mac on the backup device list. Am I missing something? I guess I can just back up in the internal storage of the phone? The Helium download website does not seem to have any information about the usage.
You can backup to your internal storage, they will be stored in the 'carbon' folder, copy it over to your desktop afterward.

Thanks! The backup worked well... Next time I'll patiently wait for the OTA update.

Backing up

Hey guys,
So I have to send my 6P I got from Amazon to try out back, I bought one from Google to replace it with but all settings are exactly to my liking.
Is there anyway I can restore all settings, text threads, apps and layouts for the new phone replacing this one tomorrow? Please let me know as I am coming from ios and an icloud restore would do just that for me.
Thanks in advance!

You can backup/restore your sms with this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
Make sure you copy the backup file to your new device to restore.
When you sign in to the new phone you'll be asked if you want to restore a backup from a previous device, the other 6P should be listed there, restore that and your apps will download from the Play Store again, and things like your Wi-Fi passwords should be restored too.
There's no way to backup your settings, your app data, layouts, etc without root though. To get root you'd need to unlock your bootloader, and unlocking your bootloader completely wipes the device, making the whole exercise pointless.

You can backup your contacts and photos to your google account. Therefore enable the sync for that.
But best way to backup your data is to use TitaniumBackup.
Or using Helium, it supports Google Drive as destination.

You only need to connect using PC for the first time, this is to make it compatible with those who don't have root access on their phones.

Mi A1 not backing up after Pie update

My Mi A1 not backing up after Pie update.
The 'backup now' is also greyed out.
Tried toggle backup on/off and reboot.
Help please!!
Anyone?
same problem here
Thanks for replying.
This must be a serious bug, I have let Xiaomi know.
Hopefully they will fix issue with February update.
Cheers!
This is working but is not giving back the Button work, it's doing the backup of your all phone to Google drive.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/guide-google-backup-waiting-to-backup-t3895101
Thanks for the tip.
It's a bit beyond me doing that.
Do you think Xiaomi will fix this with an update? My Mi A1 has no backup on Google drive.
Thanks
Dont ask me why or how but this worked for me:
In 'Backup' the button was greyed out...
I clicked on my account (e-mail)
'Add account'
Wrote same e-mail as original
Received error and backed out.
...
All the sudden the 'Backup now' button is active again!!
(I replicated this twice!)
Please try and respond if this works for all!
Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I go Gmail in Mi A1 click to add account > add my default Gmail account and get a red text saying 'The account already exists on your device'.
Click out
Check backup, backup now is still greyed out.
Thanks
I have no backup of my device, important information in contacts that I have had since 1995! Yes 25 years.

No they don't. If you want to appeal to them, you have to go to MIUI forum.
If that is so important, maybe you should make a offline update first? And don't trust the ggdrive backup solution too much. My dad backup and when he restore, he loses all contact except for contacts begin with L, M, N and it's a pain to get them back.

What offline backup software do you recommend? I have a MacBook pro and Parallels with Windows 7.

I use many backup solutiosn, because I haven't found one all-in-one software yet.
Contacts: every contact app should have an option to export contact as v-card format.
SMS&call logs: SMS backup & restore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore)
For every other things I just copy them from my phone storage to the PC.
February update has not fixed this important issue. Still no backup.

You are right.
The only way to temporary enable backup button is to disable lockscreen, launch backup manually then re-enable lockscreen.

Thank you so much, your advice worked.
One thing the Contacts has 'Waiting to backup' still (everything else has backed up)
Any advice to solve the Contacts backup issue.
Thanks again!

Very strange about Contacts backup. In my device, this is the only item that syncs without the "Backup Now" button.
I think only a new update will fix everything.
Just try this:
disable lockscreeen
disable backup
reboot
enable backup
force backup with "Backup now" button
Then tell me if Contacts is still in queue for sync.

Google Backup and USB Backup are greyed out

I cannot backup my device to google drive as title suggests. I have tried "adb shell" then "bmgr transport com.google.android.backup/.BackupTransportService" but it wouldn't let me backup because I cannot setup google account to backup to.
Is there any workaround except rooting?

Why can't you setup a Google account? It's usually quite easy to do. Is there some problem preventing you from creating one?
Provided you have a Google account to backup to, the instructions at the link below worked perfectly for me. Once I rebooted my phone, backup worked normally, and has been working normally ever since.
