Need help to go back stock - Moto G5 Plus Questions & Answers

Hi,
i have unlocked my bootloader while i was on POTTER_RETAIL_8.1.0_OPSS28.85-17-6 . I installed twrp and a custom rom and that's fine. Now i want to go back to stock but i apparently can't because the latest firmware i can find on the internet is the OPSS28.85-17-4 and when i try to follow the guides it says i am downgrading the security patches. How can i solve this problem? Do i have to simply wait for the 17-6 firmware to be leaked? :crying:
Edit: I have a xt1687

You can just flash a twrp zip till the firmware is available

You can try Lenovo Motorola Smart Assistant:
https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/downloads/ds101291
It should find the latest security patch for your device and save in on your PC.
You can fastboot flash it than.
Btw, it's not that bad to be on 17.4 because 17.6 is the last official security patch/update that Lenovo will release at all.

Thank you. I used the lenovo motorola smart assistant and i managed to download the latest stock rom for xt1687 which is POTTER_OPSS28.85_17_6_cid50_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC.xml.
I don't know if i can post the image here but you can do it the same way i did. Plug the phone to your pc with the lenovo desktop app installed, enable usb debugging and go to flash. From there select manually from rescue the device and then go to fastboot. It will show the latest official image present in the phone ( even if you have a custom rom) and simply download it. When it finished don't press rescue and the image will be in
C:\ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles . If this is a repost of any kind i apologize.

You're welcome and thank you for sharing your experience. You are allowed to share that firmware, just zip it and load it up to one of the known hosters like Dropbox or similar. But you're also right, should be possible for everyone else to do the same that you did.

If anyone wants the stock firmware for xt1687 US version (4/64) OPSS28.85_17_6 this is it. I take no responsibility if this causes you any damage , hope it helps anyone. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pah5x5g1h...y_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip?dl=0
EDIT ( Just to let you know, i was on PixelExperience with android 9 before doing the procedure).

IMO it's a shame that Lenovo has stopped supporting this phone only after two years! IMO the phone is great for it's price/performance. These short planned obsolescence is ecologically harmful. I am certainly not planning on replacing this phone unless there is another in the price range that is quantum leap better, or until 5G is ubiquitous.

Official Marshmallow update for Lenovo vibe k5 plus(Relised Brzail only)

Lenovo has relised Marshmallow update for Lenovo vibe k5 plus but only aveliable in Brazil. My question is how I can update my phone. As you have already probably guessed I don't live in Brazile thus manual update is the only way but how? As far as my knowledge goes phone shouldn't be rooted because we are talking about official rom, but where I can download it? And how to set phone to update from SD card or internal memory and not via wi-fi?(couldnt find that option on my phone, I found it easily on other phones but on k5 plus it is simply not there)Also this is not breaking my varantee right?
And yeah I am kinda newbee here so step by step quide would be nice.
Thank you in advance for your support.

But this firmware doesn't have all languages.
But this is for rooted device. Why is root needed if installing official rom?

Hello. I installed the update from the link above without rooting.
Just installed the latest TWRP for K5 plus (available in this forum), then used the recovery image as stated in the link above.
Hope this helps

You can also download the ROM on @Shreps website (https://moto.shreps.fr) :
- Lenovo Vibe K5
- ROM
- Stock firmware
- choose the Zip with "S105" in the name
And then flash it with qfil (you can find guides on this forum).
Just one thing : I'm not sure that you will keep your warranty with this as this version is not for Europe or Asia but only South America I think. You will need to reflash an older version if you want to use your warranty.

My mistake, the S105 update is NOT the Marshmallow update, sorry.

I explain you based on my experience: You will never receive any more OTA as you don't have in sync the OEM partition. The OTAs check the "build.prop" in SYSTEM and the "oem.prop" in OEM. A lot of firmwares here for flashing your device lacks the OEM partition.
So, try to reflash a full firmware.
I hope it helps you!

I flashed the Brazil ROM (.15 version) on my G5 Plus and got the OTA update to the .67 version. After installing the update, the device went into a hard bricked state. No bootloader. Only the LED blinks when the device is connected. Tried reviving the bootloader using blankflash but it fails each time I try.

Yeah, attempting to downgrade from the retail US May 2017 patch (NPNS25.137-35-5) to the Indian/Brazil .15 firmware and then attempting to take OTA updates has caused hard bricks previously.
Which blankflashes have you tried? Does the albus (Moto Z2 Play) blankflash work? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73062532&postcount=15 I do not know if any of the Moto Z Play blankflashes may work (given the similar hardware) or may not depending on how new they are.

Oh hey it got fixed. Flashed the debloated and deodexed ROM for the g5 plus. This is the ROM that's advised to flash after a hard brick, for this phone. And yeah I used the Albus blankflash. It worked successfully!

Good to hear you got your device working. I imagine you could flash the TWRP flashables if you wanted a more updated system (since these flashables don't affect the GPT/bootloader, where the majority of the hard bricks seem to arise): https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/development/rom-twrp-flashable-stock-builds-t3675616

Back to stock ROM. How?

Hello guys,
Im using an ZTE Axon 7 with unkocked bootloader, rooted, and using a custom ROM and twrp. I **** to try the original and latest version of the official ROM to see how well the performance are. Is there a package for this that can be installed using TWRP and after it has been installed, my phone is in the original state again?
I saw an update on the ZTE website from 25/07/2018. (Version B35) Is this Android 8?
https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7
Can I install this package by using TWRP aswell?
Flash a zip package in twrp. But flash an twrp image after the rom. The stock rom overwrites the twrp with stock recovery.
Thanks! So, no matter wich bootstock Im using, I can just install the zip from te ZTE website using TWRP and that's it?
EDIT: on the website, there is only A2017U model. No G or A. Does this matter?

The B35 (U-version) is 7.1.1
Try this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-slm-dfnr-t3744388
It's totaly stock or at least derived from the B35 that you want.
Or make your day and try this 8.0.0 : https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/official-beta-android-8-0-0-v2-10b12-t3797085
Beta, U version based but definitely worth a try
Or go back to factory with the @djkuz EDL Tool. The B35 is in the OP. https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/axon-7-edl-tool-flash-backup-restore-t3750759

B35 (from that site) is Nougat, not Oreo.
Oreo was not released officially so you won't find it in the ZTE website.
The current release (B12) is a -buggy- beta and missing some features. It's really not worth it. Battery life is atrocious (probably less than 2hs SoT).
You're better off with B10 (latest for A2017G) or B35 (latest for A2017U).
Those are the latest official firmwares for the phone and both are Nougat 7.1.1. Pay no attention to the numbers, as B10 is identical (update wise) to B35. Flash whatever you like. There's really no other option.
If you prefer the original stock experience with nothing touched or removed/added, you will have to flash a firmware via EDL mode. But that way you lose TWRP unless you replace recovery.img with a compatible TWRP version before flashing with Xiaomi Flash and your device is completely erased.
Forget about Oreo for the moment.

Checking bootloader version on the phone

Hi, how do I check my current bootloader version that is on my phone? And how do i know what version of bootloader will be in any stock rom i want to flash?
I don't want to overwrite with older bootloader. Need to know the current and the next one i will flash.
My device is from Europe and I have NPN25.137-92 installed.. I think this is not the latest stock nougat for my region.
Cheers.

No need to push your question everyday. If someone is able/wants to answer he will do.
First of all: NPN25.137-92 is not the European firmware, it's the one for India and Brazil.
The latest one in Europe seems to be NPN25.137-93-14, since yesterday there is another update with version number NPN25.137-93-18 out incl. August security patch but until now only US users (software channel RETUS) have confirmed it. For India/Brazil (your firmware) the latest Nougat firmware is NPN25.137-92-14.
Have you fastboot flashed some firmware on your device so that you are on NPN25.137-92 now? That could be the reason you donĀ“t receive any further OTA updates.
Your bootlader version should be visible when you boot into stock recovery.
Yes, I must have flashed pretty wrong firmware, and now I want to get back on the track. Though I dont remember and I dont have knowledge what was flashed before that. Now I wonder what should be my next step in order to have latest European nougat, or oreo.

Flash latest european firmware NPN25.137-93-14 via fastboot. It can be found somwhere here in the Moto G 5+ threads or you can download it with Lenovo Smart Assistant: https://support.lenovo.com/de/de/downloads/ds101291
That should keep you back on track.
If you can't wait you can update to Oreo with the available OTA found here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5...fficial-moto-g5-g5-plus-t3848246/post77856408 ( Read OP of that thread to find out how). But as I posted above there's a newer nougat firmware out in the US so you may not receive future Oreo updates if you use this OTA.

Need an advice: I'm currently on POTTER_NPNS25.137-93-10, OTA says i can update it to POTTER_NPNS25.137-93-14.. Then I could get Oreo OTA from the thread above. In case of any further trouble: will it be safe to return to nougat POTTER_NPNS25.137-93-10 via fastboot? If yes, if then I update again to POTTER_NPNS25.137-93-14, it is safe to take nougat OTA again? And then oreo OTA again? Hope you get my point.

No, that's not safe. Downgrading is always a risky thing because of the bootloader and taking OTA after that could completely hardbrick your phone.
So if you're once on 93-14 you shouldn't flash an older firmware than this. Same applies to downgrading from Oreo to Nougat.

OEM ROMs help

Before I flashed to LineageOS, I performed a get var all and seen the phone was on 8.1.0_OPS28.85-17-6-2.

Here are the most signed Motorola firmwares, yours should be RETUS:
https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/potter/official/
And as written above never downgrade the bootloader, that will brick your device.
Which version is the last 7.0 can be found by Google, most probably it's 25.137-18 in the US.
May I ask why you want to roll back to 7.0?
