Vendor images? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

I see a lot of talk on gsi threads about having the right vendor flashed to boot properly, is this something we need to consider for this device? And where could somebody find them? Getting all my ducks in a row with 76 hours left until I can unlock bootloader, thanks.

Can someone suggest another forum where I can go for help?
The last 5 or 6 times I've posted questions here, I've gotten no answers at all. I really need help. My tablet was bricked because I lost ADB connection while updating the system partition. I know there is a way around this - I have a custom recovery and an unlocked bootloader - but I need help from someone who knows more than I do. No one here is going to help me, I know. Where do I go? Where can I find someone knowledgeable and helpful?

Have you tried booting to recovery from bootloader and regaining an ADB connection? This should be all you need.

I was updating my Nexus 10 tablet - had gotten to the system partition - when I lost the ADB connection. I've since learned that's a problem with newer Macs (I was connected to Windows through Parallels). Here's a link to a thread about that:
https://code.google.com/p/android/i...Stars Reporter Opened&groupby=&sort=&id=65301
Because of the lost connection, the system partition did not flash and my tablet is bricked. There is no operating system so it can't boot into Android, but it can boot into the Bootloader and Recovery mode. All the other partitions are fine.
I have a custom recovery (TWRP) and an unlocked bootloader, but I'm at a loss to figure out how to flash the system.img file. I can't boot to Android so I can't connect through ADB in Fastboot mode to flash the ordinary way. I am connected through ADB when I'm in Recovery mode, but I can't use the flash command in Recovery mode. Nor can I figure out a way to make TWRP flash the partition by running it as a zip file - mainly because I can't figure out what the update.zip file should consist of. There was an OTA update file on my device when I started the manual update (manual updates fail), but I didn't look at it and didn't save it.
I tried pushing the system.img file to the Nexus 10 using the Linux dd command, but that doesn't work with the system partition, which uses a special format. The details are explained here, but I don't fully understand it:
http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/327661-how-to-backup-the-systemimg-bootimg-and-recoveryimg/
After spending about 8 hours on this last night, I believe the only way I can fix it is to create an update.zip file that uses a Linux script to flash the system partition, but this is way beyond my skill set and I can't find a model for how to do this anywhere. All tutorials I've found for creating zip files for flashing are for installing apps, not flashing a system partition - which is even more complicated than flashing, say, a boot partition. Nor can I find an update.zip file from someone's cache (sure wish I'd saved mine) to use as a model. I'm looking for someone with this kind of high level knowledge who can give me guidance - or someone who can refer me to someone who has this kind of knowledge.
I solved this problem.

[SOLVED] Bricked my Honor 7x (Read if you want to though)

FIXED!!!
Hello, I am a student needing help desperately for my Honor 7x.
It's sort of bricked, I do not think it is TOO severe.
So, I took the latest OTA from here, downloaded update.zip, the first one. http://pro-teammt.ru
I have no idea how any of this works.
I downloaded this one: http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G2649/g1699/v133897/f2/full/update.zip
It is the only one I downloaded, seeing the large file size, I think it is the only one I should need? I don't know, I'm a noob at this kind of stuff :/
I still have "FRP unlock" and "Phone unlocked" in the bootloader page.
I have flashed the SYSTEM.IMG file from the update.zip from above ^
I also flashed to recovery this, "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img"
(Before flashing the RECOVERY_RAMDIS.img file, I just did the "RAMDISK.img" file.)
I have no idea if that was the right one, it just seemed like it because of the file name.
I will be happy to provide more information if asked for, thanks!
Hold up, right as I was typing this post, I was messing around with my phone, and I managed to boot up EMUI 8!!!!!
YESSSS!!!
If anyone wants the information, I can make a guide for it!
Just ask!
Yes, that would be awesome! Recently bricked my phone, had it replaced. Scared of experimenting now without proper knowledge.

Vendor, Bootstack and Kernel questions for running AEX V6 GSI

Hey guys!
Just a couple of quick regarding the right vendor, bootstack and custom kernels I can use for my Axon 7
Im running...
AOSP Extended V6 GSI
Lineage 15.1 vendor
B20_Bootstack_by_Verequies.zip
I wonder if anyone can point me to the best bootstack and vendor for running AEX V6 GSI. Ive used the universal bootstack provided by Draken from here https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=270519. Which one of these would run the best if you know? Also with the bootstack I want to retain all of my button combination options (recovery and EDL) and offline charging but I can do without the warning screen.... ok I REALLY want to get rid of the warning screen.
Also I found this page https://github.com/AospExtended/platform_vendor_aosp that claims to have a AOSP vendor platform and I wanted to know if this would work.
My device was Treble checked and is Treble enabled so Im guessing I dont have to flash an EDL package with MiFlash anymore and just flash the partitions. (Confirm).
The only kernel I have is whatever came with the AEX ROM. I havent flashed anything custom yet other than the files I used for the initial install. Reason Im asking about a kernel is because Ive noticed the battery life isnt that great so Im looking for one that can give me more in that area first and foremost. Any other perks come secondary.
Thanks in advance and XDA has saved me and my phone tinkering more times than I can count. I appreciate all of your hard work! :highfive:

how would your phone not be 'treble-enabled' if you are using a GSI? Food for thoughts
Also, which bootstack are you running? Draken's or Verequies's? If Ver's, download the NO-SPLASH bootstack. That one's going to do what you want.
When I installed it for some reason it blackscreened my phone, the solution is just to get Oki's B12 EDL bootstack from his androidfilehost profile and flash it via edl (if you get dfu, use MultiDL).
Use the stock kernel or try Schwifty kernel, maybe Crimson too. Just test yourself

As I said in the initial post Im using the Verequies boot which is the No Splash which I dont mind but i want to get rid of the warning screen. Also if this is the one with the gold boot screen I am definitely gonna have to change that as it is ugly. LOLOL!
Im asking about who's tested what especially with kernels so I dont brick my phone as Ive already done this twice so I know what Ive used and will not use again.
But as I said I also found an AEX specific vendor or one labeled as one. I put the link in my OP so before I test it Im asking if anyone knows about it before I wipe my phone for no reason.
Im definitely going to try those kernels cuz like I said the battery life on the stock for the AEX V6 GSI isnt that great. LOS 16 was better but for some reason Lineage OS kept causing my phone to freeze and randomly reboot. I was using it for 3 days and it rebooted prolly 5-6 times running normally. So I dont think Im going back to LOS and will prolly stick to Havoc, Arrow or AEX for now.

verequies's splash hasn't got the 5 sec screen, but it has a weird 3 logo splash. I'm using Oki's B12 bootstack (the gold splash one, really ugly lol) but I made my own splash to replace it. it has no 5 sec screen. Oki's is based on B12 though.

Yeah the Splash version takes away the offline charging and the EDL button combo which I want to keep. I just wanna get rid of the Warning screen I guess and keep all the other functionality and Im good!

Remove Bootloader Warning OnePlus 5t

What is the point of installing twrp and custom ROMs and magisk etc when we can't even remove this annoying Bootloader unlocked warning telling any would be thief to steal it. Im starting this here forum too see what we can do to change this. I have previously owned at ZTE Axon 7 4gb ram 64gb gold has a Snapdragon 820 in it. Your asking wtf does this have to with the op5t relax I'm getting to that. ZTE phone was amazing for awhile. Custom ROMs, kernels, recoveries etc. When you install custom ROM on unlocked bootloader you get the warning every time you boot up. A couple of devs or more I believe through XDA came up with a bootloader warning remover zip and custom splash images for the Axon 7 and it worked perfectly no more boot warning God I loved that. Now what I would like to do is to find away to modify that very script to work with the op5 and op5t. Basically the warnings are jpegs and the remover zip removes them from the bootloader and replaces it with the splash IMG or modified no splash IMG eliminating the warning completely. Wouldn't it be nice op5 and op5t users to flash custom ROMs and not have to worry about that annoying warning like forever. I will upload the ZTE post about the bootloader remover zip and splash images and see if some devs can't figure out how to modify that script. I know codeworx is one of the op5t maintainers who might be interested in this. I'll post again soon. Let me know who else is interested first thanks.
Interested... :good:

The more people with one plus 5t phones we can get interested in this project the better. It will force the developers to do something about it. So everyone interested please chime in with your thoughts on this. I loved it on the Axon 7 and the one plus 5t blows the axon away in ram and storage. Axon 7 still love the front firing speakers though lol. So please share your thoughts I'm trying to get as many oneplus 5and 5t users as I can. So show your love modders what do you think. You love custom ROMs like I do. You like to mess with your device to see what it can do. So do I but the bootloader warning has gots to go. If you'd like to check this out look up remove bootloader warning axon 2017g in chrome read up. I'll get the URL for this soon and it give you an idea of what I'm taking about thank

I'm pretty sure a number of users would want this.. and I get it. It doesn't bother me that much though.
Personally, whenever that splash warning pops up, I just press the power button twice to pause then continue. This cuts the wait time for that warning and phone initiate the actual boot process right away and I'll be on my way.

This has been discussed before. The warning on the 5/5T isn't an image like it was on older devices. Since it's not an image, it's not a simple replace 'warning image' with another picture. You would need to modify the bootloader to ignore the verity check so the actual warning goes away.
I have seen one person get rid of the warning and that required him to build and sign all of his own packages. Essentially, he re-locked the bootloader and since all of his items were signed (properly) the device would continue to boot.
Edit: Found the post.

You have to sign boot.img and recovery.img to remove the warning.
I have managed to eliminate it by signing those two images.
In my oneplus 5 and 5t I have twrp installed and with rom lineageos without warning.
Who wants to try to send me your boot and recovery and return it for you to try.
Remember that you have to close the bootloader whereby the phone will be wipe
Process:
fastboot oem unlock
unlock bootloader
You have to go back to fastboot mode
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot recovery recovery_name.img
fastboot oem lock
Wuala
It can be done in any rom from firmware 5.1.5

[HELP] Unlock bootloader.

Asus' unlock tool for M1 is dead (network error, guess they just cut the line for older models). Attached one I had in my backup from who knows how long ago, since I couldn't find any working links anymore.
Trying unlock tool for newer devices throws "Device model is not supported".
Dev. menu option for OEM Unlock is not available in neither of "official" images.
Max Pro's unlock doesn't work for this device.
So am I really stuck with Android 10 Beta release? I guess it is kind of "win" considering this release isn't completely bloated by Asus, but it would still be nice to get TWRP and Lineage on it. Not to mention I really wanted to give the Postmarket try on this device.
I'm more than willing to be lab rat if anyone wants to try.. stuff.. on my device, at this point I wouldn't even mind if it got bricked in progress.
Alright I have not given up on this, yet. I've stumbled upon post from one of the Asus' moderators on their forums:
For ZB555KL, there will no longer be any system updates and maintenance (including server).
Sorry for any inconvenience it may cause.

What this means is there is no official way to unlock this phone anymore, as their unlock app has nothing to communicate with.
In the same thread, another user posted this:
I dont know if you are still looking for this but after working on it for hours what you are looking for is:
in fastboot mode type:
fastboot oem enable-unlock-once
will unlock the bootloader for you until the phone is reset. Just have to do it everytime you reboot back into fastboot.
Also if you're flashing recovery, these other 2 commands may prove useful:
fastboot oem reboot-recovery
fastboot oem reboot-recovery-wipe
Cheers!

Indeed using this, I was able to flash recovery. Multiple actually: TWRP, stock from step 3 of the post, OrangeFox, stock again.
Why? Well, booting into any recovery leaves me hanging on black screen.
I've tried TWRP, OrangeFox. Nothing. I have found stock recovery image as well, which I have flashed. Got black screen again. BUT. Thanks to the stock recovery image I've figured out it was actually working, since after pressing some buttons randomly (kind of stupid, I know, but I though its bricked at that point anyway) I've managed to wipe data and was presented with fresh startup. I'm thinking both TWRP and OrangeFox worked as well, its the screen that doesn't want to show things for some reason while in recovery.
So if any of you got any ideas why would any recovery present me with blank screen and how should I deal with it, I'm all ears. Or eyes..
