Incoming calls in 'Do Not Disturb' mode. - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
Don't know for sure if this is the right place to post the thread as it is a Miui 10 problem.
As I am totally happy with my rooted Poco F1 on LineageOS, I bought my girlfriend a Redmi Note 7 recently (which i keep unrooted). Great phone overall, but there is one big issue for us and that's the DND (Do Not Disturb) mode. First of all, when DND activated there are still Whatsapp notifications which is a well known bug in Miui, because I read it everywhere. Anyway, I just disabled the notifications in Whatsapp so that's no big deal anymore.
Bigger problem is the incoming phone calls in the DND mode. When someone is calling (not a favourite/starred contact), it's almost impossible to see if the phone is 'ringing'. The screen keeps black and only when you activate te screen you see a small green block in the left top corner with 00:00 written in it. This is pretty frustrating as we never can see if anyone is calling. This is the first time I face something like this, usually the screen lights up and you will see the incoming call information. On LineageOS it works perfect actually...
Somebody facing the same problem? If yes, is it possible to solve, as DND mode is complete useless for us now...
Thanks already!
Best wishes,
Mark

UP! Sorry for being pushy, but this is really important to use the phone in a proper way.
Thanks again!
Mark

I think this is just a Miui 10 'bug'. Does this forum have a Miui 10 section where I can post this question? I searched for it, but I can't find it that quick. Maybe I'm a bit blind as well
Thanks!
Mark

Sorry to bother, but is there no one who face this problem? Or is it just how the DND function works?

This is not how usual DND works. It's just an Miui thing. I too find it annoying since I depend on DND a lot. Best option is to unlock and flash a custom ROM with normal DND behaviour.

Thanks for your reply! Indeed, it's pretty useless this way...
I'm running a custom ROM on my Poco F1, but as this phone is for my girlfriend I don't want to flash if not needed. She just use her phone very simply, and I think rooting is not neccessary for her. She don't has any benefits from it, except a nice working DND modus

Keep us posted in case you find a solution without flashing a custom rom

I will, but untill now there is no fix I guess...

One month ahead, maybe someone has a workaround?

Still nothing I'm afraid? DND mode is pretty useless now...

Hello OP!
I do not have solution for this problem, but I'm here to cheer you up, as I came to this thread facing the same problem on my Mi Mix 3. Unfortunately, it looks like we are the only two MIUI users who suffer from this feature. Hopefully there is third one in the world wide web who knows the workaround and share it with us.

Yeah, I think it's pretty strange that nobody cares about this, so maybe we are using it the wrong way. Anyway, I'm always in silent mode excluding for starred contacts. Maybe it will be solved in the future, we will see...
Take care!

I would check with the Xiaomi MIUI community forums to see if anyone's found a fix over there.
They're way more active with MIUI information vs XDA

What's your problem with rooting?
To use custom ROM you need open bootloader, have root... it's your choice, usually custom roms don't have root by default, who want can flash magisk package.
My wife using now phone with custom rom, without root. I changed the rom, because the phone is old, and don't get official update.
Other option can be to use alternative DND app, what you can configure as you wish.

Just posting to let you know that I have the same issue, and it is very annoying.
At least my Mi Band vibrates even on DND mode (which shouldn't happen, but lol right now it's good that it does because otherwise I'd have no way to tell that someone is calling). When sleeping, the watch detects it and also stop notifications. Which is also annoying, DND on the watch and on the phone should be in sync but that's just a perfect example of how very unperfect Xiaomi's ecosystem is.
I guess a "solution" could be to use "Silent" mode instead of DND and disable vibration? Didn't check if even possible, just a thought.

Instructions for flashing Note 7/S8 ports on Snapdragon thread

I'm not a developer or support any ROMs I just like spreading the good word and helping people when I can. I'm not responsible if your device breaks or you lose data. So make a TWRP backup if you are worried.
This is not a perfect method and it needs improvement so if we can work together and try to fix the issues maybe we can get full support from the OPs' of the note 7 ports.
You must be on MM bootloader, unlocked, rooted, with most recent version of TWRP to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Download most recent Ram Kernel for Verizon:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/kernel-ramkernel-t3472138
Download aurora Verizon data fix:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69066109&postcount=2681
Find a Note 7/S8 ROM that you want to try on the snapdragon note 4 thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev
1. Clean install desired ROM (wipe everything 3 times except SD card)
2. Flash datafix
3. Flash kernel
4. Wipe caches and boot into ROM
5. Play around with your new phone lol
If you do not have root for whatever reason download the su zip from nseven thread and flash it in recovery.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/note-4-grace-7-t3434155
These ROMs do not support Verizon apps including visual VM and MyVerizon. They also don't support Wi-Fi calling. Check the bugs of the ROM so you know what to expect.
If you are having issues check the original ROM thread for answers or post a question on here and maybe somebody can help.
The bugs that I know so far that are Verizon specific across all ROMs:
- MMS does not work on the stock messenger (*See below for fix)
- Phone FC when the person on the other end hangs up first (really want to figure this one out)
- Texts are sometimes delayed for some reason
Some ROMs might require you flash gapps for some reason so follow the op instructions for the ROM you choose, just ignore any modem or bootloader flashing instructions.
I've tried Norma ROM and Racerom. I've had the best experience with Racerom but that is just my personal preference. Any questions please ask.
Cheers!
Thanks to @chevyrhoads for all his time and effort on nseven. I cannot thank you enough sir! And thanks to all the other developers sharing these great roms, data fix, and kernel for everyone to enjoy.
MMS Fix:
1. Extract others.xml from nseven ROM found in system/csc folder and save it to your SD.
2. Edit the others.xml file and delete everything within the <FeatureSet> tags.
3. Paste this feature within the <featureset> tags:
<CscFeature_Message_ConfigMmsMdnTagName>X-VzW-MDN</CscFeature_Message_ConfigMmsMdnTagName>
and save the changes.
4. Paste the others.xml file in your current ROMs system/csc folder (In my case there was no others.xml file to swap or replace) and change the permissions of the file to 644 and reboot.
5. You should now be able to send MMS on the stock messenger app !
hey i flashed unchanced rom and the data fix + kernel but my phone still reboot if i use data
How did you fix the fc after phone call. Also, my phone shows 3g all the time and my text.mwssafes seem delayed. Im using Verizon note 4 n910v
I tried Race Rom and get a repeated Phone has crashed. I had better luck with the Norma ROM but had severe battery drain and after being off for a while, the phone wont turn back on, requiring a battery pull.
Any suggestions on the best ROM to try?

I cannot figure out what causes the phone fc. Maybe try flashing the 4G fix found on chevyroads nseven thread. I did notice that texts are delayed. After using racerom for a couple of weeks I've been getting reboots, freezes, and some texts not going through for a very long time. I recently flashed RR 7.1.2 but having issues with recording Snapchat videos so I'm probably going to go back to nseven tonight or tomorrow. I will add delayed texts to the bugs list.

From what I see Norma has the most potential on the snapdragon thread but idk after using racerom for weeks it started falling apart on me. I would now honestly recommend using Nseven for a note 7 port. I'm gonna keep this thread open so tinkerers/crack flashers can mess around and report their findings on here and maybe we can get a more stable method.

All of the phone FC's people are experiencing from the Note 4 S7/S8 ports, are due to the method / files along with the porting process to enable the S7/S8 ports to work with the Note 4's.
If you notice, you only receive a FC if the other party hangs up or disconnects first. If you "beat them to the punch" and end the call before the other party does, you won't receive the FC.
Another thing to note; when using a third party app for text messaging such as "Textra" for example. Let's say you are using Textra to text back and forth with someone and suddenly you decide to call them. If you use Textra's built in function to initiate the call, it doesn't matter if you are first or last to end the call, you won't get a FC. I've actually tested that theory out for another developer per their request, and was able to make calls with no FC's regardless of who ends the call first, just by opening Textra, and choosing to call someone from it's built in feature.
Just an FYI...
I'll possibly be taking over all future development for chevyrhoads, in reference to the Nseven ROM per his and my discussion just as soon as I'm back in the states, caught up with all the kids in college and school activities, kiss the wife, and feed the dogs, lol. Thank you @Android.Ninja ! You made my day with this post. If you need a tester or any assistance please just ask. I'm a decent problem solver lol. Also that is a great find using textra call feature doesn't FC the phone. We must keep these great phone alive!! If it's possible I ultimately would like to create a perfect datafix for all these ROMs so we are free to choose any port. I'm positive it is not as easy as it sounds but it's wishful thinking. I figured out which CSC feature enables mms on the stock messenger. I'll post it in the OP.

That sounds great, referring to the CSC! I'll put you on the Alpha/Beta Testers list as soon as I can. We may be able to get together and create a universal one in all datafix using aroma installer to allow the user to "Select" the ROM they would be using. The only issue would be of there was a major platform upgrade by the developer of the ROM of their choosing, but even so, we could just have it "Null Out" as to not harm or change anything etc. Yup I've got many of these note 4"s best phone for the money IMO.

Anybody experiencing lockups every once and awhile on any of the ports where you need to pull the battery? And when the phone boots up texting does not work until a proper reboot is performed? I was almost late to work today because my phone locked up overnight and that is my alarm lol. I'm back on nseven to see if its the ports or my phone :/
From what I remember this started when I was using resurrection remix 7.1.2 and ever since I've been having lockups on the other n7 ports.

That's nice to hear you're on Kyubi, thats my baby. There are some minor-ish issues with nseven, t9 dialing does not work, the auto brightness does the opposite of what it's supposed to do (sunlight dims the screen, darkness makes the screen brighter), fingerprint doesnt work, and always on display causes a brightness issue where you cant control the brightness (just untoggle AOD and brightness can be controlled). And for me I've been having intermittent issues with data where my 4g icon blinks white then dims to grey then back to white nonstop. When this happens I cannot use data until I reboot. Other than that the note 7/s7 software is awesome and everything else works from what I can tell. How's Kyubi running for you? I kinda miss it lol

That's a great analysis bro. Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it. Kyubi is the best Rom for this phone period. I've tried all of them except nseven but kept coming back to kyubi because of its stability. It's fast, smooth and very good on battery. I missed the note 5 themes which I get here plus the theme store and more. I think kyubi is more of what a stock Rom should have been. I know it's developer is very good, everything works flawlessly, I've had zero issues on it since its almost 9 months that I've been using it. Close your eyes and flash it, it's that good!

I'm on Verizon now and if I get another VZW N4 I'll build a proper N7 or S8 rom with everything working as it should. other than Iris scanner and fingerprint scanner.
But just know that these international port Roms are not setup for the CDMA networks so they will not work right. Even these "fixes" are only partial things that are missing and there's more smali framework edits needed to make them work right. The best option is to build a Rom using the actual VZW software and this will solve most all of these issues. Been there done that with my UN5 and UN7 Roms. I have the S7 edge now but to be honest I'd much rather go back to the N4 running my ported N7 rom so I can have my IR blaster and removable battery. The N4 is the best phone in my opinion.
note 4 is died and is a new way to do this fast and easy

Why did Oneplus remove "Do Not Disturb" via timer

Hello
First post here, bought the 1+5 yesterday and love the phone. But really surprised that I can't have the phone go to DND every night at 11 until 7 the next morning. It was on my old Samsung S5, it was a custom ROM, but part of the Android OS, or so I thought. Was it a Samsung thing? I was on a custom ROM, maybe it was only part of the ROM.
Can anyone confirm? Anyone know how to get it back?
Thanks all.
its a stock thing but due to oneplus having hardware slider for it it will probably not work correctly. There are apps that can put phone into DND based on time (I am not sure if they need root or not), I personaly use Tasker profile for that.
I use this

Technically it could be done since we can disable it when in battery saver mode or in total silent mode,i have mi 5 earlier and there is mod for that yet its miui tho.
Im just thinking how much battery life we could save if that vibrate turned off, imagine we unlock the fingerprint sensor all the time right? And its always vibrate everytime we tap it.so technically we could save more battery life without sacrificing some important features

There is sure a way, either via some exposed module or custom rom or kernel, which either is yet not available. And the battery life is excellent on this phone, doubt that disabling vibrating will save much battery.
Hello everyone,
we finally have a way to remove this awful vibration everytime we unlock our phone through the fingerprint!
Yesterday gravitybox was released for oreo (https://www.xda-developers.com/all-in-one-xposed-module-gravitybox-android-oreo/) and comes with an option to disable this vibration, works like a charm.
I advice you tu use xposed with magisk to be systemless, or just install xposed normaly.

Xiaomi just make the vibration the lowest possible
I can still feel it but it is less than touching the home button vibration

Yes I know they have minimised it. I read it through official forums. But, what I'm saying isn't stupid. I'm not a novice when it comes to android, app development, rooting, adb, etc.
When I'm saying it is gone, it really is gone from my phone. Not even 1% vibration is there in the sensor. Updates do affect some phones differently. It happens due to various reasons and it happens! In real!

Okay so yeah I though you were not noticing the vibration as it have been reduced a lot.
Now I see you have feelings so
I could suggest something
you should be able to make vibration stronger
Not sure about stock kernel
The idea is to make the default vibration stronger to see if you notice it with fingerprint
If the fingerprint vibration is based on a percentage of the default one there's a chance you can feel it and so you probably have a different vibrator or a light one that need to be set a little more high than default
This can also make non sense if fingerprint vibration is a separate value and also you can just have a bug and the best solution is to factory reset or wait the next ota to see if it's fixed
Hope you'll be able to find a solution
The fingerprint sensor still vibrates but its very faint.

Screen Blackout HELP!

Hi all,
My screen would blackout from time to time. When I unlock the phone the screen wouldn't turn on but everything else works like multi touch. I feel the vibrate when navigating around.
A solution that works sometimes is hitting power button twice to launch camera.
I'm running Havoc Pie ROM. I know it's not an issue with the ROM because it happen with all of the. I've tired about 4 ROMs and is the same problem.
Please help me find a solution because it's very frustrating and is troublesome in a emergency situation.
Thanks in advance.
Did you drop the phone at any point?
Or anything to cause this?
Have you installed an app that was on all ROMs that you've installed?
EG: Camera app.

i just give my opinion its not really needed to have a gsi pie image on your phone, for now its full with bugs, and i think there is really not much improvements on the pie OS compared to oreo

How Xiaomi can destroy Android experinece so bad :( (is Oxygen OS Port possible??? )

Hi,
I've been using a native android OS for years (nexus phones and the last one Oneplus 3). Recently I bought Xiaomi Mi 9T, thinking it would be similar to Oneplus 7 Pro and Im having a bad experience using it.
I cant understand why they remove useful things that Google developed to make a better user experience.
For exemple:
Notificacions are awful in MIUI.
In lockscreen I cant expand them
When the display is unlock and I got a notificacion I cant expand the notification and read it directly, I have to wait or hide the notificacion (swiping up) and then swipe down to be able to expand it and read it.....
Audio Output
In my old phone I could have different devices connected via bluetooth, for exemple, an earpods, and if I wanted to show something to a friend I could change the output sound, and choose phone speakers, however I cant do it with MUIU, I have to disconnect the device to use the speakers..... WTF
I also dont like to have all apps in the screen, however I solved that with Nova Launcher.
Anyone know how to solve the previous problems? I would love to have Oxygen OS in this phone. It would be perfect. Thanks
Unlock your bootloader and flash any of the custom ROMs available right now! (Paranoid Android beta or Mokee rom(linneage base) there is also a OxygenOS GSI (treble) I wouldn't recommend that but you can give it a shot
Yeah, TWO problems are ruining android. Lol
I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S7 and I agree with OP. One week using the Mi 9T and the struggle is real. Notifications are really messed up in MIUI. The auto brightness doesn't work right and sometimes when I manually change brightness the slider is not updated accordingly as I increase it. Also, the sound controls are just terrible. It's not, or at least it doesn't feel like, a polished UI/UX.
Haters gonna hate. Now imagine that if you would do any tampering with the OS you would lose the warrantee... BUT Xiaomi is so generous that they even provide a bootloader unlock function for us, unlike Samsung and Apple. They would take away your freedom of development if you would wander off their closed systems, so enjoy flashing and stuff. And I would highly suggest waiting for MIUI 11 it arrives in the coming days. Miui has been the longest player in the android skin game and the first and foremost product of xiaomi.

you mean like on Samsung you don't have use stupid accounts and give them your info just to be able to unlock the bootloader? the fact MIUI was one of the first skinned ROMs back in froyo means nothing, it's like saying Chrysler used to make great cars 40 years ago and therefore they MUST be considered great today, no matter the fact they are pure ****e.
i sell my mi9t and i order OP7Pro, and i hope i will not regret.
first if you unlock bootloader, and to root and. magisk, you have to partitions, so anytime you want something with twrp you have to do everything from begin, and there is also one problem with OP7Pro were phone shut down by himself, power button doesnt help, just if you boot in fastboot mode power on and vol+ in same time helps.
so dont know if OP is really such good user experience, same as stock android, never have seen such poor os as stock android.
Everything on my Mi 9T works well except notifications. Unlike other people I get a lot of it. On every notification the screen turns on even in silent mode. And I can't seem to turn off group notifications for whatsapp, I turn them off and after 2 minutes they turn back on again. Other than this the phone is great.
So the only problem I have with notifications is that they are not arriving while the phone is in deep sleep mode, and that's because miui kills internet connection - I get that they are trying to save battery that way but it just doesn't make sense to me to not be able to receive notifications while your phone is sitting idle. From what I've seen miui 9 and below had an option in settings>battery&performance to disable sleep mode - is there any way to do that on miui 10?

In developer options, there is an option all the way down, "MIUI optimization" something like that that is on by default. You can turn that off.
You can also go to app settings and turn off battery optimization for the apps you care about like instant messaging, mail etc.
