Howdy! New user, requesting some knowledge on Hizpo 8.0 px-5 head unit. - Android Head-Units

Ladies and Gentlemen, some assistance please if you can.
I decided to upgrade the head unit in my 06 chrysler 300c this weekend, which was perfect timing as the stock head unit decided it absolutely hated the FM band Friday night and refused to play it.
At any rate, the head unit in question is a Hizpo octacore 4gb ram 32gb rom, running android 8.0.
My brother is a stereo shop installer and did the work, we got it up and running stellarly! Added a sub and amp while we were at it and with the already amplified boston acoustics stock speakers, I'm extremely pleased with the audio output.
Here's the rub. This morning I shut the wifi down as I was leaving trying to get it to tether with my phone and pull data via usb cable so I wouldn't have to hotspot the phone. I seem to be struggling to get it to pull or recognize any storage devices via usb. The phone in question is a Galaxy S9 running android 9. I've tried following the instructions it gave with the debugging and all, but still no joy.
Which brings us to when I got back home I attempted to turn the wifi back on, and it wouldn't connect, didn't even appear to be attempting. So I did a factory reset, and now I've lost the navigation that came with the head unit that worked offline. I'd like that back.
So can anyone provide any assistance in my quest? I've searched youtube, no luck, I've done some searches up here and can't find much on the Hizpo brand, and nothing that seems to be along the lines of the issues I'm having.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've wondered if it would be worth it to try to upgrade to android 8.1 but I'm not in a big rush for that as I'm still learning this head unit. My primary concern is trying to get the navigation back and get the USB ports to actually let me transfer some music and videos to the dang thing. I've been trying to put some music on it via google play, but the wifi is incredibly slow for some reason, I've got a brand new super fancy router for the house and all the other devices that hit it (there are many, my house is not short on teenagers) and work well, I realize it's on the slower wifi network and the playlist I'm trying to download isn't exactly short. lol
Many thanks for any and all input!

Setup/install question

So jumped in with out doing enough research.. I just installed one of the double din android units in my car. I was able to get everything wired up and running. But not much is working well.
I got this unit
GCS APEX ANDROID HEAD UNIT W/ GPS - 2015+ WRX / 2015+ STI
Android Operating System Version: 5.1.1
Processor: 1.6Ghz Cortex A9 Quad Core
Memory: 1GB RAM, 16GB flash
Stereo Power: 4x50W
So the unit itself seems very slow. I installed 2 apps. Spotify and Waze. The apps take a long time to load/open.
Spotify. Ok this is odd but not sure if its normal. I open spotify and I have the HU paired with my hotspot. It loads and starts to play but the sound is awful. I am not able to control anything via the headunit for sound such as fader/balance/eq. They don't do anything. Now if i open spotify from my phone and cast it to the HU i have all those controls and it sounds 100x better but the volume can be adjust from the phone and have to set that low. Is that normal? I have tried to get the USB to work and it will charge my phone (iphone 7+) but the headunit won't recognize the phone at all. don't even give me an option to use it via usb. I can also connect via bluetooth and stream that way but its similar where I can adjust volume from the phone. Sorry if this is really n00bish but thinking maybe its a setting? I can't seem to find anything.
After doing some reading i guess the 1gb was not the way to go but stuck for now. so any suggestions? I just want to be able to use Waze, and spotify and have the unit respond. When I click a button the delay is not a second or two but over 50 seconds and seems like it just crashes. I clear the memory and dont' have any live wallpapers running just nothing seems to be responding at all
Hope this makes sense and or someone might be able to give me some insight. Thanks for any help.
I can't post the link to the actual unit since I don't have enough street cred with the forum yet.
Any thoughts?
radio
My radio has the same specs as yours apart from the android version (4.4.2), i can confirm that Spotify and waze are both up and running within a second or two.
It does sound like you might have a faulty unit, is it possible to return it ?
You could also try a different rom but will kill any warranty I guess.
Yah that is what i am worried about. The vendor is not so eager to exchange it. I am going to take some video of what I am talking about maybe that will add some detail. Maybe someone will see it and point out that I might be doing something wrong. Not sure but very frustrating.

If yours is a MTCB/C unit (check the MCU version, it should start with this either MTCB or MTCC) you can flash a 4.4 ROM.
I also received my unit with 5.1 and downgraded to 4.4.
So tried a bunch of things over the weekend. No luck. I did do a factory restore and then was not able to even log into the play store at all. Google services kept crashing. I tried all the trouble shooting I could find online with no luck. Also I was not able to get the USB connection to see my iPhone. I could plug in a thumb drive and it worked fine. Are these just not able to use an iPhone at all? Not sure if anyone has been able to get the USB connection working between headunit and iPhone.
I sent the unit back hopefully getting a replacement to continue to try and get it to work. If not guess I will look for something else.

NEW 2018 Subaru Outback

Hello Everyone,
I traded in my 2014 Subaru Outback for a new 2018 Outback. In my 2014, I removed the original stereo unit and put in a fantastic Android HU with SYGIC GPS, that unfortunately won't fit in my new car. (The old unit is for sale, just sayin')
For the past two weeks, I've been looking to replace the crappy "Starlink" unit in my new 2018, but I'm having difficulty finding one that will install with the current faceplate. I contacted the company that I bought the original one from, and they said that their engineers are working on it, and will take about 6-8 weeks to come up with one. Has anyone found a suitable HU for a 2018 Outback? The issue I have with the HU that came with the car is that the only way to communicate with it is through Bluetooth using a smart phone via the USB input or with Bluetooth. That means wires. It also means having a smart phone, which I don't and NEVER wanted to have. I use the original Motorola V3 RAZR Flip Phones for a number of reasons, and they work just fine.
OR - Does anyone know how I can hack into this "Starlink" unit that came with my car? All I want to do is perhaps root it, or at least install some of my own apps and also to be able to use my hotspot and download stuff. There has to be a 'code' or certain buttons to press to get into this machine, but I haven't been able to find anyone smart enough to figure this one out. I'd be happy to compensate anyone who can help. I did just that with the older HU, so if you can help, just let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Hi justacafe,
I'm in the same situation (OB 2018).
Did you succeed to solve this issue?
Thanks,
Yoni

Hi Yoni,
Yes, but I haven't installed the unit yet. Here's what I did:
1) I ordered the dash face plate (#95-9909), wiring harness (#70-1761) and antenna adapter (#40-LX11) from metraonline dot com
2) The Android head unit I finally decided on is the Pumpkin Android 9.0 Universal Quad-Core 7" TouchScreen Car Radio DVD Player RAM:2GB/ROM:32GB
I've spoken with the folks at Metra about their parts and they guaranteed the fit, and indeed they do. I'm waiting on delivery of the Pumpkin Android 9.0 unit from China. The good news is that I've been consulting with Matthew at 4diyers.com who has a great review and installation video of the Pumpkin Android 8.0 unit and says that the 9.0 Android OS has some major new features and upgrades. You can see his video at: youtube dot com/watch?v=fyeewMstsjo[/url]
I'm not anticipating any major hang-ups in regard to the wiring part of the installation, but I'm not opposed to changing out the amplifier if that's what it takes. The speakers should be okay. So......I do plan on doing a video of the install procedure and I'll send you a link to it once it's finished. In the end, even my Subaru dealer thinks that Starlink 'infotainment' unit really sucks. No one likes it. I belong to the outback forum and the same there......they hate that unit. Good luck.
Mike
P.S. They wouldn't let me post an actual url…...hence the 'dot com'
COOL!
Very useful information - Thanks.
Looking forward for the video / to hear how the process was.
BTW, did you mean #95-8909 instead of #95-9909?
Good luck,
Yoni

Yes....sorry, the 95-8909. The inside dimensions are a perfect fit for that Pumpkin Android 9.0. Have you had a chance to check that unit out? By the way, I was going to get an Android head unit from Seicane dot com. It's a 10.35 Inch Touch Screen, but I would have had to change out the heater/air control unit (3 dials instead of the two in my car) because it wasn't long enough by about 15mm. It seems it fit the years 2015-2017. If you go to their web site, check out the unit, Model:S081992K. I went round and round with these people about updating that product to the latest Android OS and I would have gladly changed out the heater controls. The other thing I didn't quite like about the unit is there's no SD card slot and only 16GB ROM. That meant that my maps program would be internal, instead of the on SD card, (I use SYGIC) which would have eaten up a lot of that 16GB. Otherwise, it's a nice unit and I definitely like the 10.35 inch screen, however it's twice as expensive as the Pumpkin. There ya go....!

Did a firmware update which was provided by Xtrons support, and also there's an issue with Tasker if you have Tasker automatically start your hotspot when it detects your phone connecting to the unit's bluetooth. You need to install an additional Tasker plugin to fix this, it's called "Nougat+ Tasker Tethering Control".
I have the same unit. Is there a way to prevent all apps from closing when the unit goes into sleep mode?

I think I will put all apps I want to run on startup on the first tab then. Even tasker doesn't boot at startup/wake up.
Which firmware do you run now?
How good is this unit?
Pros and cons?
I'm thinking on putting this one on a LEON MK2 2007

I am pretty glad about this unit. Android has so much more options and capabilities than my older RNS510 unit.
Some cons that I have experienced is that the unit sometimes restarts itself. I am not sure yet what causes that.
And sometimes when I open multiple apps in a short period of time the unit freezes. The only way I got it to restart is to push the power button for +- 10 seconds.
In the 1 or 2 months that I have this unit, this only occcured 2 or 3 times.
One small little thing is that I wanted to use TomTom Navigation but the 3D view shows a blanco map with only the street names. So I just use Google Maps now.
And I found it very hard to get a decent reception with the DAB+ Antenna from Xtrons.
Overall I am glad with the unit. It is definitely an upgrade compared to my older version of the RNS510.
This unit responds very quickly and has a lot of options.
Let us know what your choice will be!
I'm thinking of getting one of these. What is the boot time?

If you really want to improve your DAB+ you got to find your antenna amplifier in your car and it should look like this... https://www.kufatec.de/shop/media/images/popup/DAB-Antennensplitter-fuer-VW-Golf-7.jpg it fits almost in every Volkswagen/Audi/Seat or Skoda
If so, you have to swap your FM amplifier with a DAB+/FM amplifier, i know Calearo ain't cheap but is european made and it works really well in my car, and i had to install a sharkfin antenna to receive DAB+ and GPS because i had no other option. (sorry for the many adjusted posts, technical problems)
Want to upgrade my android 4.4 MTCB - I use Tomtom as navigation. The PB88UNVP is interesting as is had 4GB RAM. I've read android 8 units have problems with the 3D navigation of Tomtom. Is there a known fix for Tomtom, or is it possible to install Android 7 on this device (don't know if there's a (custom) ROM that works with this device).
ok, got a PB88UNVP. Tomtom - no 3D navigation. Will use an other navigation app.
Unit works fine, but the WIFI connection is not reliable. When waking up, the unit tries to connect to a access point. Sometimes that functions without any problems, but other times it doesn't find any access points (while I know there are). Turning wifi on or off does not help. From time to time, the wifi can't be turned on or off (seems to be frozen on the on/off toggle switch).
I like the unit, bit the wifi problem is a big problem for me. Is this a known bug / problem with this or other devices?

yes getting the same problem on Xtrons PE88jccpl (Android 8, Octa Core) sometimes the wifi connects perfectly but other times getting authenticating, authentication errors. Also, having problems with the speed when its connected it starts out fast and perfect but slows down to .2 to .3 mbps after a couple of minutes. Xtrons support sent me a link to update and I updated both MCU and android but still getting issues. (I put the img and update.zip on a usb stick and once I inserted it asked if I wanted to update) Not sure if I am supposed to wipe the device after updating android

Thanks for your reaction. I also received the download link for this update. MCU 2.88_3 and Android image with build date 20180703.
I installed this update this morning. Checked the wipe everything' option to be sure to have a clean install.
Had the wifi not connecting 2 times today with the new update
I've not noticed the speed collapsing. I did download navigation maps (couple of GB) without problems. When the Wifi does function it functions well, the next time the system wakes up from sleep it's an about 50% chance it functions.
Have you tried downloading the speed test app to test?

Hizpo Ultraocta t8 android 7.1.2 review and UPDATE questions

Hello Developers
First, I hope you are all safe!
I bought this HU from amazon, three month ago. It seemed to me to be a nice radio, but I shortly realized all the problems that these systems are bringing us.
Pros: for a basic user, works pretty fine, you listen music, watch videos, backup cam, rear monitors, 4g, wifi, bluetooth, touch screen. Just like a regular android system.
Cons: Bluetooth only connects to phones. Rear monitors don´t mirror HU, just external videos (usb, dvd, sd), extra settings codes NOT PROVIDED by tech support. I found 10x more helpful this forum rather than waiting 48 hours for a poorly written answer. JBL harness is just a mess. Sound quality is HORRIBLE. Im very picky (musician). the steering wheel works partially, just Volume Up/Down.
SO.... Now I would like to update the OS, my goal here is to be able to connect my cobra iradar by bluetooth, try to mirror the HU to my rear monitors and hopefully make this right!
SPECS
processor: ULTRAOCTA T8
android: 7.1.2
MCU: 5.3.19-123-10-E06101-171205
System version: V9.2.2_20180523.142211_ZYC2-FD
2GB RAM
32 ROM
questions:
Do you think an update might work? would improve anything?
Im already planning getting something else in case this doesnt work, but all this generic radios´android system are so messy and the specs the sellers provide are just not trustworthy...So if you could give me any advice that would be amazing!!!
UPDATE
How to mirror? Ok guys, so I figure it out how to mirror, now if not 100% mirroring but it is showing a path...
While watching a video, press home, now is minimized, like a small window and that´s the trick. Now rear monitor are mirroring, but this includes the video...
I guess it is obvious that this is not a hardware issue, but just a OS issue.
Again, It would be wonderful is you guys could give me some input on what specific files should I use in order to upgrade my OS and maybe getting the job done.
Thanks and stay safe!
Pablo
Hey guys!
I hope you all safe, maybe someone can help!
thanks

thanks for reply... I was thinking buying a 300 dollars new gear from aliexpress but it´ll be the same. It is not a bad radio overall, just all these annoying details...but the lack of support out of hizpo, it is awful...1 star max!!!
update on video output:
It does output headunit´s screen to the resthead monitors. you got to load the video first and then it will mirror everything on the back.
I tried 2 4g dongles. BOTH WORKED but not even great.
ZTE MF833V worked after closing the download mode. I used DC unlocker, extremely easy.
It connected at ATT network , 3g (with logo) and 9-12 megs per seconds download. I could not reach 4g although I was able with my laptop. So i think it is a android issue.
Huawei E3372H-153, it did not actually connect, but I think it was my fault because I did not set the APN. But I was able to check my host settings via web interface. Also, it is a little messy with USA networks but NO CHANGE needed. Which is cool!
Thanks for all the info around this place!

Unfortunately, My radio is jammed. It seems to be a very common problem on my Hizpo Radio:

2 days ago, volume and knobs stop working, steering wheel controls not operating, although I have touchscreen. I have not been able to restore it. It loaded once correctly, but 30 mins later it broke down again. Same problem, some settings works and some not.
I´ve tried to factory reset (code 7890) but it does nothing. So, I am trying to Hard reset. I haven´t found a solution yet, Im gonna be pressing RST buttom for a weekend figuring out the sequence.
If you can help me getting RECOVERY MODE, it would be really appreaciated
I will update
Stay safe y'all

A newbie with an Android Head Unit and a question about CarPlay/4g connections

OK guys and gals... I have no idea what I am doing and hoping someone out there can help me. I recently installed this Chinese Android Head Unit:
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804488293839.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.5.21ef1802PBAYUa&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US
It's on Android 12.
I've got it installed and working surprisingly well. I was expecting lots of little bugs and finicky issues, but have had no issues whatsoever. It just works... and even looks great once I got Nova installed.
Anyway, I have a dream of having both wireless CarPlay and a the head unit with a 4g connection of some kind. I know I can't hot spot to my phone while using wireless CarPlay, but is there a way I can connect a 4g USB dongle to this head unit and make it happen? If so and given I use AT&T, is there a dongle you would suggest?
