Exdialer-like Dialer App for ZF Max Pro M1 - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

I've installed it (apk from Apkpure, because it's not present in Google Play now), and found it doesn't work correctly in stock Oreo on M1.
The calling history is correct, but the contact list is empty so the logs in calling history are only in number form...
So desperate because I really don't like the default dialer in M1, I just prefer the old style which shows the keypad turning on with calling history showing above when I click the dialer.
I've tried different similar Apps and all don't fulfil my simple requirement...
It seems many good dialer & contacts Apps are off the shelf now, what's happening?

Loved ex-dialer. but its in-ability to provide proper support to dual sim made me switch to Pixel phone dialer.
Used Pixel phone dialer for long time. But its latest update is pathetic.. The free version is much better than Pro version and it doesn't support proper dpi scaling in the latest version.
Switched to DW Contacts & Phone. Very much happy & its working fine on M1 for me from past 1 year.
it has everything i need and much more

Any feedback or thoughts from those that've already downloaded a ROM?
Still using A1ndroid Love and not had any problems. Runs pretty smooth. New messages pop up (see attachment). Calendar and Calendar Storage not included, but can be extracted from the latest cyanogenmod and installed as apks.

Possible to replace phone and contacts

Hello just wondering if it is possible to replace the phone and contacts with something from stock...
I feel ya, I can't stand the dialer and contacts on TW. Only way at the moment is to install CM12, builds for the different variants can be found here on xda

Why not try "Rocketdial" at the play store.
It's excellent and it's a 3 in 1 app.
It has contacts, dialer and optional full screen caller id all in one app.
It has a whole lot of options too. ( fully compatible on all android phones.
Check it out here:

Have a happy new year!
i am using ExDialer since almost a year now... i find TW dialer app boring...
I find that all these dialer apps simply overlay on top and route to the the TW dialer anyway. I tried a few of them.
I have used rocket dial, exdialer, angel dialer, and some other 2 or three, very disappointed, horrible lags, in some cases, first appears the stock dialer, then the replacement, yes, I think, they are redrawn over the stock one, so, its worst to use them for me
Try touchpal contacts or contacts+. Anyway for me iprefer the default dialer. It has a lot of functions

Got Huawei M3 today something does not like

1. Scrolling speed very slow, need to flick finger very hard to get it fast.
2. UI is phone UI not Tablet UI
If you have LTE, do you know if it can make phone calls? Also, if you are in USA, do you know if you can use T-Mobile as a phone. Also, if anyone may know this answer, please let me know because I want to be able to use it as a phone. Thank you for your help.

I have noticed this as well. It's not that the phone is generally slow, on the contrary, but the slow scrolling of long pages is annoying.
The DPI is 400 for the Display View Mode Setting Small, 440 for Medium and 480 for Large.
What is worse, in Small the Switch Tabs function in Chrome does not work anymore so you cannot switch or close tabs!
I tried changing the DPI with the adb shell wm density command but this has no effect.
Another annoying thing is that I cannot change fonts easily from Display Settings as I could on older Huawei phones. I have to use a Huawei Theme editor to change a theme every time I want to change fonts. This in itself is not a problem but this App shows multiple(!) ads of Mobile Strike when using it, absolutely annoying!
Overall I do like the M3. Battery life seems noticeably better than my Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 2016 and that is the main reason I switched. The narrower size also makes it easier to hold than the Samsung.
I have managed to unlock the bootloader but have not found a working root solution yet.
Got mine too, i like it overall, but what was annoyed about soundquality over headphones.
tested it between onplus2,... oneplus headphones quality are way better.
@ Flavio
how do you unlock the bootloader?

Use the Chinese language of the Huawei page to get the unlock code because the Captcha function on the English page does not work. Use the English and Chinese pages next to each other so you know which button to press.
Instead of the adb command you can also use the SRK tool.

Otherwise I really like the tablet
Problems w. Chrome & YouTube, Call feature not so good
I can confirm the open/switch tabs button in the preinstalled Chrome does not work at all. If I reset the whole tablet it sometimes works, but as soon as I sign-in into one of my Google accounts in chrome the tabs are dead. This is annoying, as soon as you open a new tab there's no way you can get to the old tabs…
AND: The Youtube app crashes as soon as I load the subscriptions tab. Can anybody else confirm? This is annoying too.
AND: The call feature was the main reason I bought this. BUT: You can make calls with it (even GSM and 3g), BUT: It does NOT have a dedicated speaker for your ear. It uses one of the (great!) standard media playing speakers on the side. So everybody around you (even on the quietest setting) can hear what the other person on the call is saying. So you must use a headset…
Any ideas on getting root or solving Chrome/YouTube?
By the way: I just did a small review of the M3 and put it up on YouTube:

Hello,
Unfortunately, I confirm having the same problems.

I can't confirm that. Using Chrome and YouTube without any problems.
I got mine a couple days after the release date in a huawei pro shop in China. It came with Chinese ROM so none of the Google stuff is pre installed. I got my Google play store from their own app store and everything else from play store after that. YouTube and chrome works fine. The overall speed is a bit slower that expected. What bugs me is the wifi connection, seems to be quite slow and unstable. Lte wise seems to be OK overall. Battery life and general speed are way better that my tab s2 8.0 tho. What Roms are you guys running?

I only have the Chrome Tabs and YouTube issues in View Mode set to Small (400DPI). In the View Mode set to Medium (440DPI) everything is fine. What setting do you use?

I have the B003 ROM, Android 6.0.
I can concur that the speed and battery life are better than on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0.
I just dug out my 2 years old z3 tablet compact since game streaming with moonlight on the m3 is totally unbearable. The z3 did a better job on streaming, general performance wise, I'm surprised how little the difference is between these two tablets since there's a two years gap. The m3 got a much newer processor as well as an extra gb of ram, I think the 2k screen is the one to blame, although I did turn it down to 1080 in settings. Battery life, m3 wins hands down.

I can confirm all of you the long battery life comparing to Tab S2.
to be honest, I don't have the same feeling about this tablet.
I've a good experience with smoothly and general speed but of course depends of what you are looking for, in my case, for work is perfect due to:
1. Phone/MTM function
2. SD Card slot
3. Battery Life
4. Screen inch resolution
5. Light and slim for portability
for gaming I'm going to wait the root if it's possible and why not, I guess and hope in a custom rom that I think it will solve all lags that other users got because from hw specs, it's really good to run all we want to have on this tab.
No problems buying LTE version in China and use in Europe right? And can those on screen buttons be taken away?

I don't know if the China versione is compatible with European LTE bands... I think so but I really don't know.
Regarding the screen buttons the answer is no. At least on mine there's no option to hide them.

I've tried the 400dpi setting and can confirm that chrome tab and YouTube issue exist in the Chinese rom as well. Got the latest OTA today and it didn't fix the issue.
Not sure about Europe lte but I guess it will work, there is a option to turn on screen buttons on and off in my ROM, not sure about if it's for Chinese rom only or not.
Solved! Chrome Tab Switching and YouTube Subscriptions work again.
Solution: I had the "view mode" (Settings/Display) set to "small", so I can use as much screen estate as possible. Sadly this makes Chrome and YouTube unusable. Switched this view mode to medium and everything works (after a forced reboot by the settings app).
Strange:
I can not set the dpi via ADB. Via ADB i always get 480 dpi, no matter what setting I have set in view mode. And I can not change this dpi setting, it always stays on 480 dpi. I have the feeling the adb shell command doesn't work or is ignored. This is a bit sad, because I was hoping for the widgets and fonts and interface being as small as possible. But it's still a great device and I am happy.
Now Root is missing. Any ideas?

Best alternative dialer than stock one (Google Phone app)

Hello folks
New Mi A1 owner here. Been following this phone since it got released....happy to own it!
I remember the Oreo dialer on my former Nexus 6p, it was pretty good, you could even save a phone number from the call log as a Contact. In Oreo on Mi A1, it simply doesn't work all the time.
Either buggy or ..... just buggy )
Can you please recommend me the best/top dialer apps out there that work well with dual-sim setups?
Thanks and much regards

LineageOS 15 (Oreo) phone dialler removed call record?

Hi, Love LineageOS -- using it on my ASUS Zenfone 2 Laser (z00t). Just upgrade to 15.x after using 14.x for a long time.
I notice the new phone dialler is the 'Pixel' style Google dialler -- sadly this seems to have no call record function. I miss it from the previous dialler used in LineageOS.
Any chance I could revert just the dialler? Or should I just revert to 14.x and stick with that (assuming there will be further updates?)
Thanks,
-R.

Yeah. I was hoping to avoid the hassle of evaluating a ton of apps, dealing with ads, possible malware etc. though. Seems the reviews for every 3rd-party recorder is filled with model-specific bugs, only recording one side of the call, etc.
Is there a real reason *why* it was removed as a built-in function? It worked flawlessly on my nexus 5 and asus zenfone2 laser with v 14.x. I know it's illegal in some zones, but no reason to nerf it worldwide for those of use who can use it. Sigh.
Oh well, I can't complain -- lineageOS is free, and I love it. Thanks to all the devs for your efforts!
I saw in some discussions for lineageOS 14.x that the Google Apps dialler, if installed, overwrites the AOSP dialler. I don't recall what version of opengapps I installed on top of 14.x but if there's a version of opengapps for 15.x that omits the dialler, perhaps 15.x still has the record feature? I may try reverting to pure lineageOS to see... but then I am faced with somehow getting opengapps w/o the new Google dialler on there.
Before I waste my time, can anyone confirm whether the AOSP dialler packaged with lineageOS 15.x allows call recordings?
