bricked my P Smart flashing LOS 15.1 - Huawei P Smart Questions & Answers

Hi folks,
I bricked my P Smart 2018.
I wanted to flash LOS 15.1 to it following these instructions step by step.
- Huawei USB Drivers installed on PC.
- Bootloader unlocked
- adb/fastboot installed
- TWRP installed
- Backup taken
- Cache wiped
Last step, flashing LOS, failed.
The state of the P Smart right now:
- LOS has not been flashed
- the OS is wiped
- TWRP only starts into bootscreen, after some seconds the phone is reset and Huawei eRecovery shows up. No chance to restore the backup.
- adb can't connect to the phone
- the phone shows up in the device manager as 'Linux File-CD Gadget USB Device'.
No access to the phone via PC, drivers had been correctly installed.
Is there a chance to get TWRP working on the phone, access the phone via PC?

Don't use methods from getdroidtips ever again. Those dudes don't know how ****ty Huawei is and think you can flash GSIs like on anyother phone.
Just boot to eRecovery and click "Download latest version and recovery". It will restore the stock EMUI 8, then you can flash other roms. Make sure you have a good WiFi signal.

Yeah, eRecovery worked like a charme. Phone is up and running normally with the latest firmware.
Thanks a lot!

So you don't think that there is a chance to get LOS running on a Huawei P Smart?

Actually there is. Search for OpenKirin and there should be a LOS build. It's pretty stable but battery is bad. You can also check LOS by Haky 86. Works better on P smart because is built for Hi6250. I'll leave the link below. Make sure you follow the flashing steps, otherwise you will end up using eRecovery again ?

Thanks, I will check those ROMs out.
Do you use one of them?

Which brand fits best for flashing LOS or other custom ROMs? Xiaomi? Samsung?

On Xiaomi you can flash basically every rom cuz they got a beast development. Samsung is ok aswell.
I used almost every treble rom available. Some of them are not booting and some of them ar not stable... So I ended up using stock EMUI and waiting to buy a new phone. I'm tired of Huawei

Is there an up to date guide for Rooting A2017G B04?

I am looking unlock and root my European Axon 7 running Android 7.1, and all of the guides seem to be for The US version and for Android marshmallow, do I need to revert my phone to an older version (if so how would I go around doing so?). Is there any up to date guides for rooting my version of the phone?

I used this guide 2 weeks ago to unlock my wife's german axon 7, her phone was on 7.1 stock too, but no issue, you don't have to be on marshmallow. Only advice I can give you is to read the guide 2 times or more and take your time.
Btw after you done everything use the b05 modem, my wife has no call issues with this version. I flashed the dark rom to her phone, works nearly perfect.

Why though? I also used that one, but you should try axon7toolkit. It seemingly does everything automatically and with an ok CMD interface

Yes that's a nice option too, but reading, understanding and knowing what you're doing always works. I'm not a fan of Kit's.
personal choice I think. But you're right.

It seems like very few people actually use the kit. Kinda defeats the purpose.
But yeah, that guide was how I learnt how to install TWRP via axon7tool whenever I needed it.

Step by Step, I managed to unlock it and flash the bootstack, but I hit an error when trying to flash LOS and so decided to reboot the system and try again, however when rebooting the system I got the error "Your device software can't be checked for corruption, Please lock the bootloader". And I cant seem to access TWRP anymore, just the stock recovery.
Im just wondering if I can just flash stock because I cant use my phone at all atm

Then flash twrp again, if your on stock recovery. You need twrp. Something must replaced twrp with the stock recovery.
After you flashed twrp use the files from the official Los thread
Bootloader and modem.

Unfortunately I cant seem to view the phone as an adb device, unless i select the "Apply update from adb" option in the stock recovery, however this only lets me sideload and i cant reboot it to edl mode or anything like that to install TWRP.
What happens if you are on stock recovery and type adb reboot edl. Another way to get to edl mode can be to shut down the phone and press both volume keys while connecting the USB cable, I read that somewhere here, may need some trys.
Btw,
"Your device software can't be checked for corruption" this is normal if your unlocked.

Good, you did it. Yes, after you flashed the latest official twrp,
flash the bootloader zip and modem zip which are linked at the first page of the Los thread, then your prefered rom with gapps and root if you like.
DON'T relock your bootloader !!!
Have fun!

There was never a stock OR custom ROM based on Android 8 for this tablet. There are many others, including myself, happily running Lineage 18.1 with only 2gb of RAM. Maybe you just need to do some de-bloating.

The order I tried but did not get any results is as follows;
1- I installed the latest rom released by samsung which is android 11 with frija tool with odin and the device returned to its normal state.
2- I'm logging into the system with this official latest. I activate the developer options and activate the oem unlock. resets to factory settings. I pass the android welcome screens again and turn on the system. I am connecting to the wireless network. I go to developer options and see "oem already unlocked". When I restart the device to check, I get the "device unlocked" warning and I'm sure about the unlock.
3- After this stage, I tried to write this file "twrp-3.5.2_9-0-T510XXU5CUF4-20210725.tar.md5" with twrp by entering "download mode" with odin. when i try this, i get an error like "only official install is available" or sometimes it installs twrp in a way that i don't understand.
4- If twrp is installed, I install the file named "multidisabler-t51x-1.41.zip" by first doing twrp format&wipe, but the device never opens, so it gets stuck.
5- Or when I enter "download mode" with twrp installed and want to install android 10 or 9 stock rom of this device that I downloaded from SAMMOBILE, I get a warning "KERNEL ERROR, DEV 1 BINARY 3 etc.. I also tried linage and nexus roms. When twrp was installed they gave the same "KERNEL REV." errors.
What could I be missing at this point? I would be glad if you help me. I've been trying for 2 days with no results.
My main goal is to get rid of android 11, but obviously they put a "downgrade" barrier and how can we overcome it.

Go to the ROMs, Kernel, Recover section on how to install Nexus Stock ROM. It will install both the vbmeta and TWRP along with the ROM. If you don't like that ROM, you can then install what you want via TWRP. Just remember to format the data partition when it first boots to TWRP.

mr lewmur, Is there a way to install the android 9 rom that I downloaded from sammobile instead of Nexus? i mean downgrade 9 from 11 ( T510XXS2ASK1_T510TUR2ASI4_TUR)
Android 8 is vulnerable to that nasty "immortal" rootkit.
Pie is a good OS and is immune to the uninstallable rootkit variants.
I wouldn't go less than Android 9 or more than 10...

No. You can't downgrade. And the Nexus Stock ROM isn't really stock. It is a custom ROM meant to feel like the Nexus ROM.

Is it possible to unlock a P8 lite 2017 today ?

Hi,
I'm French and my level in english is not very high.
So I try to unlock my wife's phone but I havbe understood that it is no more possible with the classic way with huawei support.
Does exist another way tu do this ? Or is it definitivly impossible ?
No french forum can explain this.
As I can see many custom Roms here I keep a hope !
Hi, yes it should be still possible.
DC-Unlocker is what you need. The operation has a cost in credits, 4$ are necessary to unlock the device since it's the cost that DC asks from retrieve bootloader code from your device.
If you're definitely motivated to do it, it's your only chance but luckily it's an acceptable prize.

Yeah, but not for Huawei P8 Lite 2017 version... I found this to be possible just for older phones (like the original P8 lite) which can be downgraded to Android 5. Newer ones can't be flashed with unsigned firmware (= firmware which is not straight from damn Huawei who decided not to provide the bootloader codes in the first place) so the only way apparently is to use paid software like DC-Unlocker as stated in this official XDA thread --> https://www.xda-developers.com/huawei-honor-unlock-bootloader-fee/

Unlocked the bootloader yesterday! I have Huawei P8 Lite 2017 PRA-LX1 and had latest Emui 8 build on it... Bought the code for 4€ from DC-Unlocker, and required around 2 minutes for unlocking. You can follow this guide --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xYybHAlWaQ
I tried so hard to get the code for free, and I know modding should not cost people money. But at the end of the day, I think those 4 euros were worth it

Dear all,
sorry in advance for the silly question but in this regard I am dumb as a brick.
I run DC Unlocker, got the phone unlocked but now the only thing I have is the stock boot telling me the phone is unlocked and therefore cannot be trusted. From there on, I do not know how to procede in order to install TWRP recovery + LineageOS 17.1. I tried to install TWRP but it only runs after a factory reset with the "stock" Huawei eRecovery and every time I reboot (I even got to the point of installing LineageOS via fastboot) it is always back to square one.
Again, sorry, but the last phone I "worked on" was an HTC Desire HD some 8 years ago, therefore you can guess I lost some years of advancements
Thank you for any help regarding the steps I am missing, links to guides much much appreciated.

Don't fully get your question. Current situation is: Phone unlocked with DC Unlocker. When I switch it on I get the "phone is unlocked" message and if I don't do anything it starts booting stock OS, otherwise goes into Huawei eRecovery. If from Huawei eRecovery I do a full wipe, it starts TWRP. But even if I work on TWRP, when I reboot it is all back to "phone is unlocked". And again, and again. Hope it is clearer.
Thanks

Yeah I get it now, the problem is if you wanna go to twrp sometimes you have to press volume up and hold it until logo shows up, sometimes you had to hold both volume buttons etc. It's kinda wierd but the factory format from erecovery is in twrp disabled due to this because sometimes it wont let you boot until format (that triggers almost anything like fastly restarting to and from recovery etc.).
So keep calm it's "normal".

Just for your information, TWRP on this device is not fully supported. Every TWRP version you may find on XDA forums for this particular device is different. In my case TWRP back up doesn't work, wipe cache doesn't work, format data only breaks the system partition , flash GSI's from TWRP also doesn't work XDXD
The only thing I could do from TWRP was flash Magisk and hope that nothing will go wrong in the future ...XD got it? Flash and forget ???

Thank you for your support. To reinstate some order in the procedure, yesterday I reinstalled EMUI from eRecovery and now I am back to "zero-point-one", aka right after DC Unlocker: when I switch on the phone it says it is unlocked and then launches stock OS. From now on what should I do to have in the end LineageOS 17.1 installed? Again, thanks for your time

Hi!
So, I installed Lineage OS 17.1 on my sister's phone just two days ago, maybe I can give you some advice being myself a beginner. So, first of all, I guess you have enabled OEM unlock (otherwise you could not flash TWRP I guess? I don't think this is the point anyway) If not so, go to Developer Options --> Enable OEM unlock and you will see both the bootloader and FRP unlocked.
The try to follow the DarkJoker360's Lineage OS 17.1 install guide step by step (don't forget to flash the los_patches_prague.zip!). The right version of TWRP is important too for compatibility issues, so install the version he provided.
Anyway, as @DunoCZ pointed out, for entering TWRP recovery you have to press Volume UP button + Power button and keep them pressed until you get to the TWRP. Otherwise, what the device does is either booting up or go to the screen like "Press Volume UP for at least 3 seconds to go to erecovery" and if you do that, it will go into Huawei's own recovery.
Another thing is... Did you do a full wipe (system, data, cache, dalvik/art cache) in TWRP before trying to flash the new ROM? (don't just do the factory reset in Huawei's recovery, I read somewhere it doesn't wipe everything like the advanced one in the custom recovery)

Thanks

Because as you wrote here, the stock OS booted up before you installed stock from again via Huawei erecovery. So my wild guess is that the wipe you did before flashing Lineage OS wasn't a full wipe?
---------- Post added at 10:30 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:06 AM ----------
By the way, after installing Lineage OS 17.1 I found out there were indeed some very important problems in the ROM as noticed by other testers too...
The reason why I changed the ROM on the device was mainly because of two reasons:
1) Short battery life
2) Not enough memory
And unfortunately, on Lineage OS 17.1:
1) Battery life not good enough. Unless you fix it by patching a new kernel, be always wary of apps running on your device etc., the battery ran short even after replacing the internal battery. Alas. Besides, I wanted something stable for my sis who threatened me to buy an iPhone if I couldn't fix her phone lol
2) Very big problem with memory: I couldn't find a way to write to the SD card as other users pointed out. It is read by the device, but apparently it is read only and even with root permissions I couldn't find a way to obtain write permission for the apps. Perhaps some options in fstab mount file should be changed, but honestly, I tried with my below-average knowledge of Linux and gave up :crying:
But then... I tried Lineage OS 15.1 and this one worked much, much better. Battery life is super good and has the adoptable storage option for the SD card! This way, instead of those 9 gigs of memory now the phone has more than 70! And honestly, this ROM solved both the most important problems of this phone
(PS: sorry for the long posts lol)
(PPS: if you decide to switch to 15.1, remember to decrypt the memory following this post otherwise you won't be able to install more that a bunch of apps on the phone. Besides, remember to flash Dil3mm4 's TWRP recovery)

[Solved] Stuck in Bootloader

so i was trying to flash CherishOS so i followed the instruction and found some problem but i was managed to solve the problem. FYI, the rom gave the link to the custom recovery which is the PixelExperience one, since i'm coming from the stock latest rom so i flashed that. until i done everything and boot to system, and it just keeps returned to the bootloader no matter which option i choose (boot to system & recovery), but luckily the device is still detected in my computer
What i've tried :
- flash recovery (PixelExperience & TWRP)
- Followed this instruction
but none of that is working, one thing i found out while doing the 2nd method is that it shows some errors like "flashing is not allowed for critical partition" and "partition not found".
I have no clue what to do, i've tried whatever solution i could find and none are working. please help, thanks
edit:
I also tried the "fastboot flashing unlock_critical" and tried to reboot into fastbootd but failed and the fastboot shows all command list

If i click on the link to download the recovery there is nothing about pixelexperience. So i guess you saw something about pixelexperience in the recovery itself. Thats not a problem anyway. You could use lineage recovery too. As long as the recovery is made for a12 thats not a problem as far as i know.
Its not written in the Cherish OS thread but in all other roms you have to be on the latest OOS11 on BOTH slots. Did you do this beforehand?

yoo it works, thanks a lot man. hope you know how relieved i am
yeah i know it's not the problem, but it was the first time i know this recovery in like few years of modding my phone
also i finnaly able to flash the the custom rom, thanks!
I totally agree tho, the oos for me is the best stock rom, i tried the beta 1 tho, but it just leans towards to the color os since oppo is the parent company of oneplus. it just feels more heavy and too many change from the stock android. that's why i decided to flash custom rom
again, thank you so much! have a great day!

in my experience, my phone is just showing nothing it's like the screen is off. i realized that my phone is in EDL mode is it's detected in my computer as qualcomm something.., when it shows like that that means you haven't installed the qualcomm driver. after that the name will change to "more normal" name. and then you can proceed into the tools

How To Guide Convert Verizon UW OnePlus 8 To Global

Hello everyone! I have managed to get Global firmware on VZW UW OnePlus 8 and thought I would share.
Donations are appreciated. PayPal user @igp1490
You will need to download to get started.
1. FastbootEnhance: https://github.com/libxzr/FastbootEnhance/releases
2. Jaguar Rom Full: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RIIZzz0IyVXeFdjjKRjgqdSphLxaE--w/view
3. Recovery: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=15664248565197198941
4. PayloadDumper GUI. Download version 2.3: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...and-other-img-files-from-payload-bin.4442149/
5. Global OTA Firmware 11.0.11.11.IN21AA: https://www.thecustomdroid.com/download-oneplus-8-pro-oxygenos-ota-updates/
6. OnePlus 8 Visible OTA firmware: https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlu..._OTA_0080_all_2203082133_56fdf9c8718742cb.zip
7. Platform-tools, I'm using 33.0.3: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/downloadnow/5425/?evp=de0a68064118855fcddcc3980a2143c4&file=6062
Now to get started. First have bootloader unlocked of course.
1. Extract payload.bin from Visible OTA, then dump payload.bin with payload dumper. next find modem.img and move to desktop
2. Install Recovery
3.Be on A11 rom with A11 custom recovery or Install Jaguar Rom and go through setup.
Thanks to Bishop1312! for pointing out any A11 rom with A11 custom recovery works in step 3.
4. When Jaguar is setup reboot to fastboot
5. Run FastbootEnhance, double click your device that says fastboot
6. When in fastbootenhance click fastbootd then click little box to the left of "ignore unknown partitions" then select flash payload.bin and select global firmware zip. When flash is complete "select activate slot" my second slot to flash was slot B, you want to flash global to both slots.
7. After it installs click back in in Jaguar recovery and select "Factory reset", I did f2fs and regular format options
8. Afterformat is done reboot system
9. It may take a few minuets to get into the setup and you may get a message saying phone app has stopped working, don't worry just go through the setup process and connect to wifi.
10. when phone is setup turn off phone and boot into fastboot holding power+Vol down, when in fastboot connect to computer and run FastbootEnhancer. You should see your fastboot device, double click on fastboot, now in fastbootenhancer click reboot to Fastbootd. when in fastbootd go to Partitions tab in fastbootenhancer and look for Modem_b, click on modem_b to highlight it, then click erase then click flash and look for modem.img you put in desktop and select it to flash and after look for modem_a and follow same steps then reboot phone to system.
11. When phone is booted go to system updates and update. After update is finished reboot, after reboot follow steps 10 again for modem, continue step 10 until fully updated to Android 13. Verizon service will work in Android 13 but not 11 or 12.
One problem I have is if I turn on then off airplane mode it wont reconnect to Verizon service, you have to reboot phone and it will work again. I'm thinking maybe because it's an older modem.img, so if anyone can get there hands on the newer modem from Verizon or Visible newest OTA maybe that will fix the issue but no sure. This is my first guide so If anyone has problems let me know and i'll do my best to help you.
Hope ya'll enjoy.
Edit: I got EvolutionX A13 rom working! also airplane mode is working in EvolutionX A13 rom. You have to do step 10 every time after setting up new A13 roms. I Tried step 10 before going through setup but it just goes to bootloader, So make sure to complete rom setup before step 10.
Good work, man!!! This method fully work! I have some little notations:
In step 3, it can be any rom, based on Android 11, but recovery must be from custom A11 rom;
After another installing or updating rom, we must do step 10 every time, for working cellular data. But i think, it's small price for getting fully working custom A13 roms.
UPD. On every reboot, cellular data appears after ~1 min, so don't worry))

Have you tried watching a video on youtube or any movie/video app? I'm having video playback freeze for a few seconds then video plays for another few seconds then freezes and continues this cycle. I'm wondering if it's just EvolutionX.

No, video playback i don't test for now. I tried to flash two roms and i apologize for unchecked words - after first flashing modem.img at the beginning, in the future no needs to flash modem, cellular data work fine.

Does anyone know if OOS13 is working with this method? Don't you need the OOS12/ 13 firmware in order to be able to use the latest custom ROMs?

Yes OOS13 works. This method flashes OOS11 global firmware then you update to OOS12 in setting and then update to OOS13 in settings. Make sure to flash modem.img in fastbootd after each update. OOS13 works. Data and calling are not working in OOS12 global, don't know why but does work in OOS13. the only problem I have is OOS13 is if you turn off wifi it won't turn back on but data, calling and text work. I'm on a custom OOS13 rom and it fixed wifi.

Glad to hear you got it working. Yeah I just realized that yesterday that wifi doesn't work. Install a custom a13 rom and you will get wifi back. I recommend starting with crdroid a13. I was using evolutionx but screen was flashing a little bit when typing so I installed crdroid and it is working perfectly. We need an actual developer to figure out the wifi issue in stock oos13. I'm not by any means a developer. I just messed around with firmware for months to figure out how to get a13 on our vzw devices since verizon is garbage for updates.I personally like the stock oos a13, so it would be nice to have wifi. I think the opeque look in the pixel roms is ugly, Google should have implemented blur in QS and notifications.

Install EvolutionX 13 and then install Crdroid 9.0. or you can try just using EvolutionX vbmeta and recovery to install Crdroid, both roms use the same method.

The reason why the various issues on the ROMs exist is because the OOS12/ OOS 13 firmware has not been released by Verizon officially, and there are fundamental changes in the firmware such as the modem (since the Verizon model has the mmWave functionality). This leads to various networking issues such as Wi - Fi not working, cell data not working sometimes, etc. IN2019/ Verizon OnePlus 8 users will never get a stable OOS12/ OOS13 build unless Verizon decides to release the firmware for it - the custom ROMs are the same way since they rely in the OOS12/ OOS13 firmware in order to function properly.
Before I attempt this, is there an easy way to return to stock? Does flashing to stock with MSM undo these changes?

Yes, MSM will bring you back to vzw firmware.
