Slash TV for asus tinkerboard, Android 7.1.2 rooted with play store - Android Stick & Console RockChip based Computers

Today I'm sharing Slash TV, created by myself. The same developer as retro pie on the tinkerboard. This is set up to have more of an android TV feel to it, Sega Saturn is working, Dreamcast, psp, all the earlier emulators, Netflix, Kodi, Plex, and much more. This is the official public release. It is sized at 16 gb. If you use a larger SD you can use gparted to get the space back, or factory reset. If you use factory reset once it reboots use play store to get chrome, then get magisk 5.9.1 to restore root. There is no custom recovery yet. Just root. Also magisk had to be manually installed so don't update it. Other then that, enjoy and have fun.
Www.techtoytinker.com stores previous releases and instructions, no ads, no sales.

I followed these instructions for Android 7.1.2:
https://tinkerboarding.co.uk/forum/thread-2303-post-10152.html#pid10152
Android Nougat was giving me some major display issues when dealing with higher end TVs though, so I switched to Marshmallow.

touchscreen is not working fine on portrait mode
thank you for sharing this great project,
I m reporting a problem with portrait 90/270 mode: touch function are working but seems to miss touchscreen calibration... I can open an app by touch only if I put my finger about half inch above its icon. landscape is working fine!
great job!

Amazing os!
What a insane amazing OS... Best i´ve seen so far...
Well done and keep up the impressive good work :good:

connecting via ssh
Thanks for that's awesome image! Can I connect via ssh terminal? if yes what's login and password ?

Hello, thank you for the ROM I am however having a buggy issue once i install on my tinker board s. It deletes what ever i type in browser, closes pages of games or what ever I open, it backspace or cancels my selections. I checked my controls and those are not the problem. It seems to be withing this android ROM. I do not know how to even begin to find the cause. On my old Rom it does not do this.. I do not have the know how to update my old ROM that's why I am looking for built tweaked Roms. RC 3288c

i'm using this OS now, but my i can't use my speaker thru it's 3.5mm jack.. anyway thanks to this OS. I'm using bluetooth speaker as an alternative..

No, you just flash the image to SD using win32diskimager or etcher.

its my youtube in the tutorials section, tech toy tinker

do you have any mirror for 3.2

@godkingofcanada Thank you for your ROM. My Tinkerboard has finally found it's place as a TV STB and it's role as a Nextcloud server has been given to a 64-bit ARM, which would require less maintenance.

[RK3188/3066/2918] Custom Firmware Tool for Windows

Longtime lurker. But its time to contribute! I recently bought a TimingPower RK3188 and searched high and low for these tools. After endless hours of searching and translating Chinese and Japanese I brought this little package together to build your own CFW. This probably isn't for complete newbies but I made it as simple as possible. I can confirm it works on my TimingPower RK3188 using Rockchip Batch Tool as well as copying update.img to SD. Anyway, enjoy!
This is what it does:
Extract update.img as well as system.img
Pre-root your firmware
Open system folder to edit your rom
Repack update.img
I cant post links so previews are a no no I guess. Let me know how it works. If this is the wrong section I apologize.
Thanks !!
Would like to bring to your attention (as you seem the only Chef so far) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437990
Hope you can help contribute to the thread, and possibly have the first full solution, root, CWM, CFW, custom ROM
Thanks! I was looking for a material Quick installation!

Doesn't work on Windows 8 either. Compatibility setting was set to Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7, nothing worked.
Okay Windows 8 users should try this. RAR attached
Hi, I also bought a TimingPower RK3188 and was wondering where can I find Roms for it? Like a Finless Rom that might work for it? Anyone? Thanks!

I am quite happy with them. However, some notes are in order. I received them with firmware 20130715 installed, and that does not support 1080p. The timingpower.com website offers 2 updated images for it, one 20131101, the other 20131104. The 20131101 image has some improvements over the 20130715 version, but still offers only 720p, but the 20131104 version does offer 1080p. I updated both units to the 1104 version, and it went smoothly, but it can be a bit unstable at times. The screen and sound cut out at random intervals, but I got used to that, even thought it is quite annoying. Overall the picture is amazing (i use it on a 65" flat screen). Speed is acceptable, not a gaming computer, but fast enough. Takes a bit to get used to using it, keep wanting to right-click stuff for options, and get dumped back a screen.
Suggest that you get a USB 2 hub (more ports are better). I connected a USB keyboard, USB mouse and USB camera (all cheap, nothing fancy), and they all worked fine. However, the tiny Bluetooth keyboard (IS11-BT05) that I got, doesn't seem to work. It pairs up just fine, and shows as recognized, but after that, nothing.
One caution note: if you do flash your device, make sure that you use a newer computer, with USB 2.0 , really old PC's with USB 1.1 will not work.
Making your own version of the ROM shouldn't be too difficult. Plenty of advise here, and there are even some tools available on the TimingPower site. I'm in the middle of customizing mine, and I have not found it particularly difficult. I mainly want to scrap some of the basic stuff, and make it more sleek (to my tastes). I am also considering incorporating a dual-boot option, for Android <-> Linus (not sure of what flavor yet).
BTW, I have an English translated version of the Chinese RKBatchTool Manual, should anyone need it.
thanks!
KitKat for CS968
I have been using your program to root my CS968 and other rockchip tv boxes running 4.2. I have now installed 4.4 rom, but you program does not work on KitKat. Does anyone know how to root a kitkat rom for my RK3188 CS968? I would be most greatfull.

Shield Tablet Open Source Factory Preinstalled

This is compiled from Nvidia's source using instructions found on this page Link
You need to have an unlocked bootloader and adb/fastboot.
Be aware this does not include any of nvidia's apps or google's frameworks/play store and is just plain android with no extras. (If someone can pull from their /system it may be helpful). I will try to add more later, but this should at least get any bricked tablets going until nvidia released a factory image.

Run flash.bat while unlocked/ screen on(if your computer hasn't been approved for adb yet), or while in bootloader.

You'll have to root and push a gapps package into your root directory. We don't have a recovery unfortunately.
precisely...
yeah I normally just slap it in the sd card then boot into twrp and flash away but it's kinda hard at the moment. and even stock recovery is upside down and wont get past the android icon no matter the button combo. lol im SOL.
Pretty sure I received a Lemon Tablet though out of the box. Wifi Was really choppy, but then I factory reset it and wifi was just completely gone. but this reenabled the wifi...thank god. but no playstore/google account is a huge bummer! lmao
I appreciate the fast response though man! I'm not stupid with android, but dummy stock makes me scratch my head. I can throw adb commands all day but I just cant push install them for some reason...maybe im just rtarded
I had some issues just pushing too, try using these commands.
Code:
adb root
adb remount
(from inside the extracted gapps folder)
adb push system /system
WORKED!
Thanks man! Went perfectly smooth! I forogot about pushing the full folder like that. Havent had to do it inna while but yeah man it went smooth as day! Thanks! now to just wait for the factory img...lol
BTW do you know what I have to rename the tablet under about device to make it look as the shield tablet to the playstore? I was using grid when the wifi crapped but I cant use grid as it says my device isnt supported.

I'm not sure exactly what it needs to be changed to, if someone could get a dump of the stock rom it would help. I tried to see if someone could get me a dump, but I've had no luck yet.
I hear yuh. Yeah I'm no help onna dump at the moment. If somebody could post even a screen shot of their about tablet I can rename the stuff directly. I use ROM Toolbox Pro and use the build prop editor. You just rename the builds to the stock nvidia one and you should be golden as the play store reads it as stock nvidia android...I think...I had to do it with the kindle fire back in the day to make it look like a Nexus 7.

Yes, you should be able to change a few things to make it work. I think most of what you can se is cosmetic and you'll have to change the ro.build.fingerprint too if I'm not mistaken.
shield tabletiers
Hopefully someone who is rooted/stock is willing to send us some screen shots. I actually kinda prefer this build over the stock nvidia one...its a lot faster. Theres absolutely no lag...granted I use sd maid/unlocker, fstrim, and nova. But so far this rom has been great. And you cant beat that barebone feel of android! Although the nvidia optimizer is there its unavailable through the settings menu. You can tell how stuff is like in there but hidden. Theres pros and cons to both. I just need to get the right build props to make the playstore see this as the shield tablet. Youve been a great help bub btw I appreciate it.
It just sucks that my first experience with the shield tablet was a bad install of android out of the box? Thats the first time ive ever had a software related wifi failure. The only other time was eith my droid 2 back in the day. LOL
Btw Other Shield Tablet owners, this is the screenshot I need from YOU so i know what to change my props too. Im using rom toolbox pro, but the lite version allows adjustments too. All I need is the screenshot! Much appreciated!

I noticed what was wrong, after changing like 20 lines, including the fingerprint which SUCKED! The one that I needed to change was the ro.product.build!
I had it, just by guessing at SHIELD TABLET, and while my gf and I were lookingat it I randomnly noticed that it was SHIELD Tablet, and not SHIELD TABLET! I REBOOTED AND IT WORKED!! YOU SIR, ARE AWESOME!! I appreciate the help!! And Keith, when you built the img's I noticed you put your name in them? You should just change that one line to SHIELD Tablet, and you'll basically have you're own rom with the playstaore recognizing your tablet as the Shield Tablet! Thanks guys, a million!

Oh! No big deal! Your name is still all in it. Its just the one line, I assume, thats seperating the playstore from recgonizing it as the shield tablet! Lol
This build has external sdcard issues. My 128 GB SD card shows as damaged, every other ROM with sdcard support (including stock) works fine. I'd love to be able to use a pure android build on the tab, any chance of making another build?
EDIT: seems to have issues with exfat formatted cards, works fine with sdcards formatted as fat32 ?

You can just reflash back to the stock OS as you would install the custom roms. I'm sure I tried to do that once to see if I could and it does work. There's posts about it on this forum, but you'll have to dig around.
As for performance, all I can say is I've been using CM 12.1 for over a year now and it is by far the OS of choice for the MOJO imo. It is rock solid and trouble free. Chrome works just fine if you follow the above post from Wmapa. The only thing I've heard that doesn't work is Netflix, but that doesn't bother me as I don't use it anyway.
There's plenty of info on this very forum if you put the time in to search for it and read it.

I also looked everywhere, but there are no stickied post or instructions how to get back to stock. And if you search (even in google) this is the only thread found.
I also want to get back to stock, CM12.1 wifi issues, Remix and Android TV: loads of apps not compatible.
I have the latest TWRP and can boot but somehow it doesn't like the file named: mojo-signed-ota-MO0205-TS.zip . however it has no issues pushing remix, android tv or the cm12 & cm12.1 .zip files.
I will greatly appreciate any help.
You may want to try using earlier version of TWRP or flashing it over fastboot w/ A-A USB cable. I remember juggling various ROMs and TWRP versions to go from one to the next.
Sent from my LG-D415 using Tapatalk
You will likely need to flash the console to Remix first and then stock. And yes you still need the older version of TWRP. That's what I use anyway.

Will Lineage OS make my Device compatible with the ps3 Sixaxis controller app?

Hey there,
am trying to get the sixaxis app to work with my p9 lite now, but the applications lists my devices as "incompatible" as it can't get the device's Bluetooth driver configured properly. I read somewhere that the required packages to access this driver is not available on the stock rom but it is available in Cyanogen mod/ lineage OS . if someone can confirm this, it would be a great help, cause i don't want to go through the hassle of installing everything back just to find that the device is still incompatible anyways...
PS: as a proof on concept, i have a galaxy grand prime with Cyanogen mod already running on it, the app worked fine and the controller paired there, but still maybe the device was compatible anyway even without Cyanogen mod on.

Motorola Xoom Oreo Rom Development

Ok so i have started developing a oreo rom (Android 8.0) for motorola i have made the zip to flash it and will flash and give you guys an update on whats working and whats not and if the zip file works. I started developing about a week ago so nothing will work properly yet.
Update: Forgot to mention its lineage os 15 but I used files from 14.1 I'll be a day or two for a zip file again
Update: Could be months before this comes out cause my computer has 4gb of ram I'm getting a new one soon and putting Ubuntu on to it I know this is frustrating for you but I promise the Xoom will be running Oreo smoothly soon.
Just so you know I'm not making stuff up
I'm sorry for stuffing up I can't send link for prove of video yet
Thank you.
Just read a blog post, https://www.xda-developers.com/android-go-old-android-8-1-oreo/ and came here to ask if anybody is building Oreo ROM for Xoom. It will be awesome to run slimmed down Oreo on Xoom. Its a great device and solid as a rock.
Since I installed Omni Stingray, DS has been using it every day for YouTube.
Thanks again in advance.
With Tegra 2 and 1gb of RAM the Xoom can barely run Lollipop. I don't see it happening for a device this old with so few users.
I am interested in it, but I think it would be very slow as it has only 1GB of RAM.
How about Oreo optimized with Android Go?
I can test it if needed. I have a xoom in a box somewhere. it could be fun
It sounds amazing, it would be exciting to see Oreo on the Xoom tablet.
Android Go might make this plausible; look at the specs of the devices it's been released on.

Have you made progress? I want to keep using my Wingray/Stingray (s) - thanks.
This would be quite nice. I feel the Xoom quickly outgrew itself. Android was kinda clunky back then: low UI FPS, UI V-SYNC, and lacking overall system hierarchy. It would be refreshing to have a modern firmware build on an older device such as this.
It would really prove the dexterity of the the Android operating system. Not to mention, with the Android Go launcher sitting atop, it might actually be a phesable project for a device with such low hardware specs.
Also, I have mistakenly flashed the stock Honeycomb 3.0.0. Apparently this version of Honeycomb disables access to the MicroSD card reader and thus I cannot flash a ROM onto it from a external media source. I found a method Online for flashing a ROM from the internal NAND. You must use the ADB from a Terminal/Command Prompt to transfer the system image from a PC/Linux Box to the device and then flash it from there.
I do not have a good backup, and the recovery partition is currently blank. So I have been searching for a valid stock ROM of Honeycomb 3.1 with Gapps files included to restore it back to stock but with Root access.
If anyone could assist me that would be great!
what recovery did you use?

I'm using this 7.1.2 from crDroid that works pretty well - can be found on this site - but it is still outdated. Was hoping not to have to recycle this little tablet that I love but it is getting slow slow slow

Same here when it comes to speed. I have one stock, no root running 4.0.4 & another rooted running OmniRom 5.1.1, its not to bad but could be better. Hopefully CLOUTMAN will have some success getting Oreo in some form on out tablets
