Hi,
I'm thinking of buying me a Galaxy Tab, but I have no idea which one because I'm new to the Tab-thing. For now I have a Galaxy S Plus.
In some tests I read, that the Tab 2 is worse than the Tab 1, that's why I'm asking for your opinions.
For me important is:
- Wifi + 3G
- Browsing / Communitys
- Android 4 (with a custom rom)
- watching movies
- microSD / SD Slot
Any ideas on which one I should buy? The first or the Tab 2? What's the difference between 10.1 and 10.1N? Just the wifi-n connection?

Look for a comparison video on youtube so you get a clear picture of what you may be buying
For watching movies, I'd actually recommend the 10.1. I also find it to be very handy when working on Polaris Office and the like - it may be a bit "bulky" but with a nice Samsung Book Cover case (or something similar) it's quite comfortable.
I used to support the tab so much cause loved my device, but to be honest I do not think I can trust Sammy again not unless they change their software support policy.
Also the traffic in this stream of xda is slowing right down so devs are moving away to other devices. ...

Hey guys i'm not from this forum but from the galaxy ace forums.
I'm looking into buying this tab but I just want to know how good is it to live with everyday. I'll just be using it for everyday tasks, web browsing, music, movies and regular fooling around but I would also be starting my masters degree soon so I will want to to take some basic notes and that sort of thing.
I would also like to know how easy it is to root and install custom roms on it, also on average what kind of overclocks can be achieved if I ever need any extra horse power. I was also looking at the Nexus 7 but that does not have any expandable memory slot which sucks and also I think 4 cores for a 7" tab is just being wasteful .
But any way, what are your thoughts on it, I've watched and read the reviews and I know its a good tab I just a want to know how good is it a month or 2 later.

The only thing I wouldn't use it for would be note taking because of trying to type on the keyboard would feel to slow for me. For note taking, I'd think the Note 10.1 would be great because of the s-pen that you could use. It is really easy to flash anything custom to the tablet, just flash recovery via Odin or Heimdall, then boot into recovery and flash whatever you want. I use my tablet for web browsing and as an e-reader and it's fit my uses just fine. Also thinking of using it as a "portable" media player as well since the audio output from the small speakers is really good IMO, and it also has the same audio codec as the SGS3, WM1811, which is a really good audio processor.

go for it its an excellent tab...
No lags at all...
All your needs will satisfied in a premium touch even without rooting/overclocking the tablet...
It can be overclocked to 1.3 ghz and for rooting tutorial search the forum you will get it...

The Samsung galaxy is full worth the money dude I'm 24x7 online in it using 2g gprs the battery stands for more than one day and the screen on time is 5 to 7 hours depends on the usage with games and stuff that means you can continuous use upto 5 to 7 hours till drain this is he only best tab at 18k to 20 k price range with ICS and don't forget to update to 4.0.4 from 4.0.3 from the box good luck

Well, I strongly disagree about the note taking, I use Evernote, and for note taking it has been a dream-come-true! Its optimized for our screens, and syncs to their servers for backup. Price is very good for what you get. It has a couple of things other 7" tablets dont have, such as GPS (Glonass), and an IR emitter (universal remote for your entertainment system).
This tablet has also had most of its source code released so all the devs here should, in theory, have a field day hacking at it. It also has a very decent CPU and GPU; these chips are used in many other devices aswell, so their technically should be tons of support for lots of games and apps that indulge in nicer hardware (they run smoother, sometimes).
This has become my main music device. I use bluetooth headphones and they, and my tab, support Bluetooth 3.0 and Apt-X Bluetooth lossless audio codec by CSR; listening to music is simply delightful!
Bought mine to replace a Arnova 10g2 that was just not up to the job i wonted it for which was to read E books and Comics (My father now has it now! He loves it?) as the screen was really poor! Happy with the Tab 2 once over-clocked and cyanmod flashed! Got a bit disappointed with the announcement of the Galaxy 7 until they mentioned the lack of external memory support! Still if they release a Nexus 7 with external memory! Then I think my mother might soon be the owner of a nearly new Tab 2! lol!
Good screen, plays Dead Trigger well and SD Slot! What more could you ask for?

I'm generally pretty happy with this tablet, it was supposed to be a stopgap tablet until the Nexus 7 was officially announced but once I realized that there would be no external storage (which I pretty much knew anyway) I stuck around with this.
I'm not happy with the tablet but I am content with it, if that makes sense.
It doesn't have the fastest processors/gpu, the screen isn't the greatest and the proprietary dock (makes having to buy all new accessories a pain) but as
long as you come into this tablet knowing what to expect, then it's pretty damned good. It doesn't have a huge Rom community but that also cuts down on the over saturation
from some of the more popular phones (have you seen the Galaxy sII or Desire HD forums?!? Ai yi yi) off the top of my head, I think this has a Stripped down stock Rom,
CM9, CM10 (alpha) maybe a Miui Rom which covers all the major basics as far as I'm aware.
I've been running CM9 RC2 since about 2 weeks after I bought this and I'm pretty happy and Once I wake up from this nap I'll probably be flashing CM9 stable & supercharge
it.
I know that I didn't really productively answer your questions but I hope I gave you some perspective on the tablet.
P.S. The thing I hate and I mean hate is the limited internal memory (I think it's 4.7gb or some such) which didn't seem bad at first cuz I was planning
on buying a 32gb card for everything, but apps especially games chew into that space so damn quickly and it doesn't get saved to teh ext card instead, even though I have all my media moved to the external card, I still run into scenario's where I can't update apps because I get that dreaded notification Tablet space is low.
Dev's are working on ways to utilise ext cards for storage bbut there is nothing stable I'm willing to try yet.
I'm running CM1O and its sooooo cool.
The Tab itself is very nice to touch and use . The tab has a nice weight to it and is balanced to hold. one draw back is the placement of the speakers.... sometimes playing games the sound becomes "muffled" due to hand/control positioning. Same as charging /playing music , It is sometimes awkward to use, but not overpowering.
Cant say i have any issues with the Tab , apart from the ones that i have caused lol.
Screen quality is VERY good for a budget tablet /size, same as sound quality.
Storage could become an issue but has workarounds , but over all........ WOW.....LOVIN IT !!!11!!!
I liked it when I bought it but the Nexus 7 is far and away the better 7" tablet in my opinion with one exception. The advantage of the Samsung is the internal micro SD. If you are staying stock, and want to watch media from non cloud based sources, the Samsung is better. If you will be rooting, you can use an OTG USB cable and use micro sd cards on the 7. The 7 is better in almost every other way and has a plain JB interface without the extra bloat Samsung puts on their tablets. My guess is we may never even see an official Jelly Bean release for the Galaxy 2 given the speed at which Samsung updates their software. Of course, there are multiple JB ROM's already out for the Galaxy 2, just not stock versions.
My Galaxy 2 died last weekend. It would just go dead and then required you plug in to the computer and hold the power button for 60 seconds. As soon as the screen would shut off, the same issue occurred. I called Samsung and they were very quick to send me a shipping label to return it for repair. Within 4 days the unit was supposedly repaired with a "Software Upgrade (External Factor)" whatever that means. It should arrive back on Tuesday. Hopefully it is fixed.

I have no complaints. Does everything my Thrive does , i can put JB on, and have used this as a credit Card terminal. I had audio issues with a custom rom and video playback, nothing major. Only things i dont care for are the stock predictive text and that some of my tegra specific apps dont work (this having and OMAP cpu and all).
Was definitely worth the cash since it actually outperforms my Thrive for most uses and cost half as much. Thrive wins points for the full sized usb and hdmi ports though.

I have this (the 3G version) for a week now. So far I'm perfectly happy with the purchase. Excellent value for money.
I really like my tab 2 7.0", but....
My Pros
- TouchWiz actually has some nice apps on this device. File manager, email, pop-up apps, power toggles are nice features
- Speakers are awesome
- Expandable memory
- Works great with USB thumb drives, mouse and keyboard (with adapter)
My Cons
- Screen resolution sucks, things are blurry (like most Android tablets). Some newer devices like Nexus 7, Asus Infinity, iPad3 have HD screens
- No TV out
- TouchWiz although I think is quite nice slows it down at times. I rooted and froze a ton of unwanted apps. Not all can be to be disabled through native ICS settings
- Chrome that comes with the latest update crashes a lot. New bookmark widget is also bad. Install ICS browser+ from the market instead.
I got it yesterday, rooted and installed AOKP JB. The size feels perfectly great to me. I have not cycled the battery enough to give any input on tat. Games run awesomly well, including minecraft PE on fancy graphics. Its an awesome tab, i love it

the wireless receiver on galaxy tab 2 7" is the worst thing on this tablet, the second is the battery life with wifi on! i got mine, i like it but......
For typing, Thumb Keyboard is the best coming from a blackberry. The split keyboard is excellent and fully customizable. The only issue is holding this in portrait mode leads to the death grip but if you are note taking and don't need a strong wifi connection you got to try it. Landscape mode resolves this also.
I am going to try a custom rom to help boost this baby up a bit.
Yea this device may start out with OK performance but it does get pretty laggy. Rooting and running a Jellybean ROM will increase performance a good amount.

I dont usually/ like to watch full movie or video on the tab or play an intensive games.
I usually do the following on a tablet
- browsing web/ facebook
- checking/ replying emails
- chatting (skype, whatsapps, wechat, magicjack)
- google apps (maps, earth, hangout, keeps, current, etc)
- youtube and music
- light games (candy crush, logo quiz, temple run)
1.) I am looking a tablet that is portable, since I am always at the office (which I have a 15" laptop) and bring my tab (sometimes I use for a meetings, take note, email, reference) with me and malls/ shops on weekends with wife (waiting for her while she shop )
2.) I want a tablet that can do wifi hotspot , as I am sharing my data plan to my mobile phone and to my wife's ipad (with good battery life, at least can turn on the wifi hotspot at least 10 hours)
3.) I want to be able to set / lock the mobile data to WCDMA / HSDPA. I have ASUS Transformer TF300TG before and its fluctuating from hsdpa to edge from time to time, so I cannot get a good speed on my data plan.
I attached a snapshot for the #2 and #3 reference.

Because Nexus 10 does not have 3G version so Nexus 7 with 3G/Wifi is what you need. Or you might wait for next generation of Nexus 7.

3) is definitely a software thing if you choose to use custom ROMs. As for the rest, owning both, there's really nothing according to your priorities that the Nexus 10 beats the Nexus 7 in, so I'd definitely jump on the Nexus 7 (you can either wait for the new version, or, since the current Nexus 7 is quite a good device as-is, wait for its launch to crash the price for current-gen Nexus 7s and buy then).
Oh come on guys.. N7's next gen is a huge rumour..... its too good to be true.
to the topic, N7 is better than N10 because of a couple of reasons.
Firstly, it suits your needs. Well I don't personally like heating up a tablet to provide wifi service, the hotspot thing, for 10 hrs. In my place, I've got a portable wifi router, it's called PTCL eVo Wingle here. Got awesome speed of 9.1 mbps and has a battery life of 10 hrs. Try finding a similiar thing for yourself.
Secondly, Nexus 10 has been known to have a huge display, hence there have been app problems. Certain apps can't display properly, so N7 is favorite among us. But then if you wanna be a bit deviant, N10 suits you. You've got very minimal needs so N7 should you very well. It's portable, and you can attach abluetooth keyboard if you don't prefer the onscreen keyboard (who does..???? )

Well the things that Google is throwing around this time are too good to be true. Like a 5MP camera, HD display, and many more, and that in lesser price than the old Nexus 7. Either believe the price, specs or none...

Minus tethering and mobile data, you had the same requirements I had when choosing the Nexus 7. I came from the Iconia A500, a 10 inch tablet, and I can say I don't miss the screen size at all. Much easier to type out IM/Facebook messages! 10 inches is good only if you heavily watch movies/youtube, or would rather not downgrade. That said, the Nexus 10 is more powerful. I recently bought the current Nexus 7 and find it to be totally fast (minus Chrome sometimes but that should improve with data compression) and have a brilliant screen but if you want the bleeding edge Nexus experience you can always wait for the newer Nexus 7 that is supposedly coming.

You won't need the Nexus 10's screen size if you don't watch movies on it, and apart from that they basically do the same thing (except the Nexus 7 is more portable).
10" was too large for portability for me. The 7" did the trick for me for the reasons you stated (mostly portability), and of course you can tether no problem. However, as it was stated, you might want to wait for the next iteration of the n7 simply cuz right now the one that's out now is kinda of "old"...has 32gb, but...
As a very recent nexus owner (awesome deal on a refurb.), I gotta say the "7" has MORE than lived up to what I was hoping for. I use it more primarily for e-books and surfing/light gaming when near a hotspot or at home. It has excellent gps, so navigation is "on" as well.
The "10" would be too big for what I like to do with the device. (no knock on the 10, just too large for my use.)
More good info is coming out about the new "7" via multiple sources, with an expected ship date in July. Price will be around 225$, but for what you're doing getting a gen 1 device wouldn't be bad idea either, especially as the gen 1 will most likely get discounted fairly heavily.
Either way, can't go wrong.

By achieving #3 of my first post- do i need to install custom rom? Stock android cannot do this ? I want to be able to get update from google as soon as they release newer version, so i think if i install custom rom will defeat this ? As said on my previous post, i need the option to set to wcdma only, data plan on my place fluctuate from gsm to wcdma alot if set to auto.
I also don't want to carry another device such as portable hotspot ,that's why i am looking/asking if nexus 7 can do this. In fact, i have note 10.1 which can do the above, but i am looking into replacing this to smaller one as i am having hard time replying to email, typing, carrying around.
I will definitely wait for the new nexus 7.

You might be able to find an app on stock that would work. Perhaps FoxFi? Mine is WiFi only so I can't test that.
Mine is just a joy. Definitely hits the size sweet spot. I think 10" is just too big even with the fabulous screen. The N7 feels really good in the hand too with the faux leather back. I had an iPad for a while and it just wasn't comfortable to hold for any length of time. The screen on the N7 is great too. My only real quibble, and it goes for almost all tabs save your 10.1, is the mono rear facing speaker. Sure, it's loud enough, but if HTC can do it on cellphones, why can't front facing stereo speakers be done on tablets.....especially since telephony earpieces are not getting in the way?
The price also makes it unbeatable. I got my 32GB 3G unit for around $250 when converted from the local currency. The iPad mini is nearly double that when similarly spec'd. It really makes the purchase a no brainer. You won't be disappointed with the N7.
Do you guys think its worth to sell / replace my Galaxy Note 10.1 for Nexus 7?
I dont watch full movies on tab and i usually bring with me my tab wherever I go.
Hopefully new Nexus 7 comes our very soon.

I'm running n4 and n7 at home and love the feel of a smaller tablet. I recommend it. There's also the hisense sero pro for 150.00 that looks decent but I'm sticking with the combo papow! If you hold it close enough to your face it's a big screen...

Im running galaxy s3 with galaxy tab 2 10.1. Having come from a n7 myself, I would definatly not recommened it. I had the screen separation issue with the new 32gb model they released where the screen starts raising above the body of the device. Tried to send it back to asus and got the worst custimer service ever, and they tried putting the blame on me as if I had broken it myself, even though the tablet was in a case the whole time I had it.. dont get one, the nexus 10 is a much better choice

u might think this as a funny reason but it is true:silly::victory:
in my 10 yrs of marriage this is the first thing my wife liked so much and she asked me for it and i just got it .I do know it has many uses but its basically being used by my wife daily to play some games once shes back from office.but on using this i really got to know what a TAB should be this one is fantastic:good::laugh: and loving it :laugh: and in my country i got a scheme from samsung where i can buy it via my CC no interest nothing just pay in nine months:good::laugh:
I love to draw even though I'm not very good at it like other people here. I also multi-task a whole lot. I also like to use it as a phone because I'm weird.
I have a Note 2, the ability to sync s-notes between devices, the s-pen, I love to draw, the ability to take notes, front facing speakers.
I would wait for new note tablet , note is great but why buy one now when new version will be out soon , s pen is the main reason, love to draw and the kids no other Android tablet that being the case

The only 10" phone available in the market (in my country) + armv7 quadcore with 2gb so I'm able to dual boot my daily linux as a laptop replacement.. (bluetooth mouse + keyboard) btw since this baby support framebuffer, ubuntu runs better than any pineview atom netbooks out there :laugh:
I use it for ebook reading.. studying.. accessing PC externally.. (just add a logitech bluetooth keybaord K810 and any bluetooth mouse to make it a laptop), front speakers
simple image manipulation on photoshop, etc
This is one heck of a tablet. My ipads are just lying there and sometimes used to refer to recipes.. thats all
Note 10.1 for media consumption and creation
s-pen, for the win! Had been trying to use a Box wave stylus and take notes on my touchpad. Didn't work well. Played with Note at Costco and that was it I was hooked.

Taking notes in the class with adding pictures and audio
After some of my class mate saw how it is, now everyone uses that for taking notes ^^
it had really bad marketng, lots of people doesnt even know about it
I didn't originally needed it and first I wanted to buy a Nexus 7 and grab one in a local store on the german release date. But 2 days before the release date there was an absolute incredible DEAL where I got the 3G Note for 340€ (the normal price in late august was 600€) so I got one and 200mb free HSDPA internet on top.
It is a Vodefone 2 years contract + free Galaxy N8000 but I consider it as 340€ for Galaxy + free mobile internet.
Now I use it daily with lecture notes for transcripts in university and reading PDFs on ezpdf while listening music via headphones. I have some games, but just because they were on sale. I'm not a casual gamer anymore. It's kind of to big for gaming anyway.

At the time i bought it it was because of the specs. My only wish is that the addons {spen ect.} Were not dependant on touchwiz. I like cyanogen but loose all the xtrabfeatures.
Samsung should make them addons from google play so owners could choose

Drawing is awesome with that thing!!
The fact that the S-pen works so seamlessly with the tablet's Wacom digitizer. Makes note taking really enjoyable. Multitasking with multiple windows open is also a big plus.
3G, 2GB RAM, Quad-core Exynos, 10" form-factor. Plus Samsung makes excellent Flash memory, and that's very important for avoiding lag on Android.
I've probably pulled out the SPen all of 3 times in 8 months, but hey- maybe one day
First i'd like to say I am not what you would call a power user, or a person who looks for things that are wrong, rather i'm a person that uses a device and notices issues as they occur. So, after having the View for 2 days, my Note pro 12.2 is up for sale. I enjoyed the Note Pro for its large size, but I wanted bigger, and the View is it, for me that is. My first thought when I took the View out of the box, was Damn, this thing is big. Its dwarfs all of my devices, hell, it even makes my 32 inch tv seem small, if that makes sense. It is heavy, for a tablet, but it will stay on my desk, so the weight isnt a problem. I have a 10 inch tablet that I take out and about.
Its running 5.1.1 which runs smooth and fast. Using chrome to stay up on the numerous sites I visit daily, works fine. First issue I noticed was many of the sites I visit don't utilize the full 18.4 inches. USA today gives me a desktop view, as well as Android central, but sites like CNN, XDA, Android police, the Verge, and Cnet, and many others treat the View as a tablet. Hopefully Samsung or Google will include a desktop setting in a future update.
As far as games, I play a lot of Madden, and it does utilize the full screen size, and its great. In fact its gonna take some getting use to because its so in your face, like being at a theatre sitting in the front row. As far as I could tell it ran as well as the Note Pro. Samsung also included and app called S console which allows you to connect a bluetooth game pad to the tablet. I downloaded Modern Combat 5, which i'm not very good at, and it ran as well as when playing on my Nexus Player, no stuter as far as I could tell.
Google Newstand, Plus, Earth, Maps, Youtube, Music, Gmail, Xfinity Tv, Showbox, Hd Cinema all use the full 18.4 inches. Samsung also included a Smart manager, which allows you to free up memory, which is nice. No need to download a Ram manger.
Speakers are nice, they are located on the back of the View. I will say, when the View is in the upright position the sound seems muffled, less highs, more bass, but when laying down sound seems to be more balanced. When I get my notifications on my cell its more tingy, all highs, with the View, the notification has high and lows, which is different, but nice.
Battery life for what I use it for is great, better than the Note pro. I went 2 days without charging. With the Note pro I had to charge every day. I dont let my devices go below 30 percent before charging.
As far the Views 1080 x 1980 display, for me its fine. Compared to my Note pro I really dont see that big a difference, but compared to my Galaxy tab S, the S is by far a superior display.
Split screen is fine, Samsung has had this feature for years, and as always, works well but the apps are limited. I will say for such a large screen, it would be nice to open 4 seperate windows as well as cascade windows, but that is not what the tablet was designed for.
Cost was a big factor for me, and I got lucky and through Amazons open box sale I was able to get the View at 468.00, no tax free shipping. that was 28.00 dollars more than I paid for my Note Pro, which I purchase refurbushed. Yes, I'm a bargin shopper.
My wish list:
All apps optimized for the full size of the View.
Better speaker placement, and equalizer settings.
More than just 2 viewing angles.
Be able to remove/disble TV service screen.
Sold by T-mobile.

I've had my AT&T version for about a week and love it. Some thoughts...
It's a media device. Compared to the Note 12 which I consider a productivity device the features aren't there. The GV's stock e-mail client is bare bones, it doesn't have S Voice, Remote PC has to be side loaded, and Scrapbook is missing. Feature and h/w wise it's equivalent to a mid-range Samsung tablet, not their flagships.
The display has 127 PPI which is fine for distance viewing but woeful for reading text. For reference the 2011 OG Galaxy Tab had 149 PPI. You'll go blind trying to use the GV for productivity. But it's great as a 1080P TV.
As a portable TV the GV is fantastic. There's a remote app for it I use with my Note 5 and you can do anything via the remote you can do on the device. I use it as my bedroom TV rather than replacing my old 720P 32" TV with a newer one.
Big caveat. If your cable provider supports the GV for live broadcasts you can save money by not having to pay for extra equipment on additional TVs. I'm on DIRECTV and they do. If you can't get live TV than the GV is a giant Hulu watcher and at the price the value becomes questionable. At least to me.
Another caveat. The AT&T version is configured differently than the Wi-Fi versions. Rather than the streaming screen with access to popular video apps it's hard coded to the DIRECTV home page. Great if you're on DIRECTV, a big feature loss if you're not.
The GV is the ultimate business presentation device and there are two apps Samsung provides in Samsung Apps to create and present business presentations. I've used it a couple of times and its blown new customers away.
So the GV isn't for everyone. As a movable TV and business presentation device it's in a class by itself. It's great for media consumption but the price is a lot to pay to watch Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu. As a giant tablet it's a fail. The PPI is dreadful and the s/w and h/w specs are nowhere near flagship class. So whether you're happy with the GV or not depends on how you plan to use it taking in to account the steep price.
I am using my galaxy view now for three weeks and love it.Former tablet was a notepro 12.2.The only thing i had to get used to was the screen resolution.Flashed the latest firmware from January and this beast is flying.No lag and gaming and watching movies etc is great on the view!

this is the perfect solution for me.
Since the birth of my daughter the wife and I agreed that I need to smoke outdoors ( I live in the Netherlands ) so I've placed a Base tent on the roof Terrace with a comfortable armchair and heater, add the Galaxy View with Kodi and IPTV and I can watch everything I want outside without having to freeze during the winter
I have had mine for over a week now the at&t. one with the 64gb storage and 4g and I just love the size and all apps I tried so far work just great and gaming is awesome on this unit as you feel part of the game..screen looks great for what it is and I am one happy camper with this view.

Hello everyone here, I see everyone here has different kinds of galaxy views, I am interested in buying one despite the answer I'm going to get because getting this would greatly help with my travels, the question I ask is can you use it as a phone via bluetooth? like a direct line to say at&t or verizon, not that google way people are used to using it as? I also had a note pro 12.2 but I gave it to a family memeber because I couldn't use it as a phone via bluetooth (only verizon models did, I had a at&t one). I'm just hoping that it has in some models but if it doesn't that's also alright, the pros outweighs the con. I'll just hope that I'll try to do the same I did with the note pro which was sideload the apps needed and changing a few files here and there to make it work (or do the google voice thing).

Not that I can tell. Was in the same boat with my Note Pro 12.2.
So there is one of these in the AT&T variant that I can pick up locally for $200 or less. Is it worth it? Has it been updated past 5.1.1? I've been researching and can't find any answers.
