Music playback issues: quality/noise, stutter

Hi all,
I got my Hero on Monday and I'm blown away by this phone so far!
The only not-so-great aspect I have found is the music playback:
1) There is a small amount of background noise when playing music, which is noticeable
in a quiet environment during low-volume parts of tracks. I don't always listen to Metal on the subway, so this is kind of a problem.
2) Sometimes, when listening to consecutive tracks of an album, there is a stutter when a new track starts. Haven't found a way to reproduce this reliably yet.
I was expecting to be able to ditch my iPod for the Hero, but I'm a little hesitant now. Does anyone else experience these issues?
I have the same issue with the jumping at the beginning of a new track, haven't noticed the background noise though probably because I do listen to metal.
Maybe it has something to do with standard sd card or how the mp3 was created? I hope someone knows the answer.
Also:
Does anyone know if there is a graphic equaliser somewhere? Music seams to be too trebley (using Seinnhauser earphones), but I haven't been able to find anyway to adjust it
Forgot to mention: I used 192 kbit/s MP3s encoded by iTunes and portable AKG headphones. I'm going to try out the included earbuds when I get home, to see if they "equalize" anthing.
I'm listening to Rufus Wainwright's Hallejuah on my Hero now over a set of Sony MDR-NC22 Noise Cancelling Earphones (in-ear type) with the noise cancelling switched off. No background hiss. Could it be from your MP3?

That's possible of course, but I never noticed noise like this on my iPod. One other thing I'll try at home is listening to a WAV file and check for noise.
Send me the MP3 file and I'll load it up on my device now and let you know if I'm having any problems
my email address is my username @gmail.com
Ok, I tried the included earbuds, and the noise is much less pronounced than with my AKG headphones, but still audible. It starts as soon as the playback begins and stops about 2 seconds after I pause the music player. (I guess this is when the audio hardware shuts down.)
MP3 and WAV exhibit the same noise, so it's not encoding artefacts.

Is it a buzzing noise?
I'd describe it more like a hissing sound.
Edit: I have attached a sample MP3 (hissingat5.mp3) in a ZIP file. I can clearly hear a hissing sound around 0:05 when the music gets quiet and I'm not using the included earphones. Anyone else? (I've checked the original CD with the same headphones, there's definitely no noise on the recording.)

My ipod touch does this sometimes. I have to reboot the ipod and its fine after. Maybe its because they are low on memory. Have you got lots of apps running? Try taskiller and try again?
I've found the music app struggles the most with low system resources and during the phones numerous "heavy lag" periods makes play back shutter or even stop altogether!
And god forbid you have more than five albums with bog standard 600x600 cover art... slow doesn't really describe it

Good idea, that might be a reason.
I think I'll be sticking to my iPod for now, though. While the stuttering problem is probably fixable in software, I'm not so sure about the audio quality.
my music also lags(espacially in sleep mode.. it's ridicoulis)... it's so annoying.. something needs to be done about this... I've tryed to memory cards and the music lags on both.. one is fast and one is slow..
I've found that if I play music through the phone itself or my headphones, there's no problem. If i connect it to my little 2.1 speakers, songs stutter, jump, restart, skip etc CONSTANTLY. Any ideas why this could happen? The speakers work fine with everything else, afaik. And the Hero works fine with other stuff... guesses?
I also have the slight hiss for a few seconds. Sound quality is pretty average, but i have my awesome samsung P3 for that
Im using a Philips SHB9000 stereobluetooth headset, theres no hiss in that, maybee its bound to wired only? thoe i have some stutter.. i use a Class 4 4GB Microsdcard.

Yeah, since you're not using the Hero's audio hardware at all, I wouldn't expect there to be any noise.
BTW, how much does the bluetooth headset drain the battery? I was thinking of using one to solve this problem.
Lack of gapless playback is also a bummer for me. I might be going back to my Zune.

Exactly the same as on my phone. I'm on my fifth Hero now and knew about the hiss already but this is the first to stutter. Exactly the same files, exactly the same memory card, exactly the same apps installed and running on the system.
No idea why one Hero has difficulty and others don't.
My Hero stutters even in the middle of songs on playback. I tried an alternate music player (nswPlayer) and it didn't help. I'm using mp3s but I think they're 320kbps. Maybe a re-encode would help?

[Q] S3 vibrating when listening to bass heavy songs with headphones.

This is probably the freakiest problem that i have ever had I normally use Player Pro for listening to music but when I use it in the S3 the vibration module becomes active and it vibrates along with the bass heavy songs. I am getting the same problem sometimes with the stock video player...and also MX video player. interestingly the stock music player does not have this problem.
Anybody getting the same problem...any idea how to solve this?
Initially i was amused with this thing..as it sort of makes video watching better. When i was watching Thor...the fighting portions were double the fun because the S3 is underlining the epicness with vibrations...For the first time I was thinking...Is this a bug? Is this a feature?..Is this both?
But now I just want to get rid of it..hearing music is ****ty on the long run.

Its not a problem or a fault, its a feature called auto haptic feedback. Think it in the sound setting.
The bass be pumping! Pumping! Pumping!

[Q] Spotify + equalizer = going deaf?

So I have a bit of a problem with Spotify:
When I use any equalizer app (like DSP or even the stock sound effect app) the sound goes weird whenever I fast forward or even play any track.
I have no idea how to describe the noise it makes, but I guess it's a bit like this; it goes absolutely insanely loud for about 0.5-1 sec. (to the point where you think you might go deaf) and then back to normal. You might think that's a very short time but imagine hearing that every couple of minutes in the morning. Agony!
It's fine when I turn the equalizer off but since I mostly listen to music on the bus, I can't hear the music very well without increasing the volume to the point where it just sounds awful.
Can anyone with Spotify Premium tell me if they have the same issues?
Thanks.

I'm using Spotify + the stock sound effects app and does not experience any of your problems, even if I try maxing the volume. Have you tried with a different pair of headphones?
Yep, this happens even after changing headphones.
It seems like a Spotify issue, since everything works fine with Play Music, Poweramp etc.

Well the Spotify-app isn't exactly perfect, so it is likely to be that.
- Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
- What are you listening to? I can try listening to the same thing and see if that has got anything to do with it.
Yeah, uninstalled but still nothing.
I listen to house, dubstep, hiphop, hardstyle.

I just tried skipping forward in a song and just noticed the same issue, wow. I guess I just didn't notice it before when trying.
But it only happens when I'm using an equalizer, and the same thing happens for me, the volumes seems to go up to max for about 0.5 seconds and then goes down to your set preference.

headphone jack alert and music audio routing issue

Hi Guys,
This is my first samsung so maybe its a samsung thing, but when I listen to music on my phone everytime a new notification comes through either mail or sms or anything really that triggers a notification alert to make a noise it cuts my headphones and starts playing the notification and my music through the loudspeaker and then when the notification tone is done the music routes back in to the headphones.
It is really annoying and is there an app to fix this?
This is almost more annoying to people in the same room as me than it is to me.
I'm on the latest factory ROM, rooted.
Hi,
I had this problem too.. and found answer somewhere here. For example, SoundAbout solves this issue.

Thanks, I've used SoundAbout in the past to fix issues with a cheap knockoff chinese phone, I was hoping there was a better fix hah, that will have to do for now
If you are using a player such as poweramp you can stop this pause and resume by going into settings/audio/audio focus and change the settings to not pause and resume. It will play the music and notifications at the same time. Otherwise do the above steps and turn down your notification volume to 0 manually. You will still get notifications without interfering the music.
I haven't tried other players yet but worth looking into the settings for the same features

Also, whenever I record my voice on whatsapp, the audio is REALLY L OUD and has a ton of noise.
Why is this?
I am rooted on MM using systemless root... does this have anything to do with it?
What can I do?
Please help me, this really sux balls! :/

I just started noticing this and its driving me nuts.
I just factory restored with factory image, since i was rooted and issue continues to happen.
Not sure what could be causing it.
I notice it on snapchat a lot more. Sounds like one of those old school movie reels spinning.
can really notice it on quit environment, gets on my nerves.

Is it like this on every device? I got my Pure two days ago, and the recording noise is really a dealbreaker for me. It's really loud on snapchat, which I use a lot. Should I ask for a replacement or just return it and buy a Nexus 6P?
Volume level of actual sound appears normal - that is, spoken voices, or other sounds.
So it appears somehow lots of white noise is getting amplified into the recording.
Hmm.. Appears to be a known issue - https://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/3ulqdt/noise_while_recording_video_2015_moto_x_pure/

Do you think it's a software or hardware issue? I'm considering returning my device, but it would be useless if it's a software issue. And if it is, maybe motorola are aware of it already?... I'm not really sure what to do lol, because I do love this phone.
Hard to say. Chances are it's possible to somehow disable the noise canceling in this phone. I don't record enough videos for it to matter. I suppose when there is actual sound, it will overcome the white noise anyway.
I have a slight background noise and all audio no matter what app I record through (camera, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook) is very low. I can't use speakerphone either because people on the other end can't hear me. Hopefully some sort of fix comes up. I feel it's more software than hardware. Never had the issue before marshmallow.
Try Open Camera, and then tap the Settings icon (upper right)
In Video settings, choose Audio source and pick 'Default audio source'.
See if that helps for videos. I don't use snapchat so I don't know how to fix that sorry.
