anyone interested in custom kernels? - Sony Xperia XA Guides, News, & Discussion

im working on some personal use kernels for my XA that i use for a camera basicly but id be curious to know if anyone else would be interested in custom kernel builds, probably aimed at performance more than anything else (as i already have a 2.15ghz overclock working )

[Q] hastarin r7.1/michyprima r11

Just wondering if anybody can explain to me whats the difference between hastarin r7.1 kernel and michyprima's r11 kernel without flaming me. Obviously i know hastarins kernel is evo based and michys is not. that doesnt really explain much to me because i could run both kernels on evo based roms and on desire hd roms. i know with michyprimas kernel the cam works with flash perfectly and hastarins kernel cam doesnt work properly with premature flash. maybe some one can point out the pros and cons of both kernels. i dont want to get into a debate about which one is better or worst. just want to know the differences and pros and cons if possible so i can make a decision on which kernel is best for me. please dont flame for my noob question.
Since both could run on your build why didn't you test them, and make decision for yourself? then tell us pros and cons for each.
My personal experience, maybe different from other
Evo base kernel:
PPP data connection, faster speed compare to rmnet, but to some network , it's not reliable. like my T-Mobile, I got disconnect all the time.
My bluetooth headset works
LED status notification, LED hardkeys, most off the time didn't work
They said light sensor works, but it wouldn't work on mine
They said G sensor work, no more freeze, I didn't test long enough to see if it really works
Nexus base kernel:
RMNET data connection, slower speed, but reliable.
My bluetooth headset didn't work
LED notification, hardkey works
G, light sensor didn't work
Michyprima now also has an evo based kernel. It is version r1 currently.
I did test both kernels and as I stated in my original post was the only differences I found was cam works on nexus kernel and it doesn't on Evo. I didn't notice any other differences that's why I asked the question.

Out of these three ROM's, which is best?

In terms of stability, built-in features, battery life, performance and anything else important that I might have forgotten, which of the below three ROMs is top dog? Just so you know, I plan on flashing the non-overclocked GPU version of _motley's Linaro kernel regardless of which ROM I choose.
Paranoid Android
Glazed
JR6

I'm running paranoid myself but the best advice I've read when people ask this question is try them all. What's best means to me might not be what it means to you. I've tried all three myself and they were all stable, I like paranoid because of the per app density feature it has. It was just updated again today btw. Motleys kernel is awesome I like the one without gpuoc. Good luck, happy flashing
Thanks for the advice. Also, I have another question for anybody who can answer. These three ROMs seem to be mostly similar in terms of features, so it's actually kind of hard telling the differences. So, what I'm trying to ask is, what sets each ROM apart?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I used JR5, EOS now PA. They are all very similar, as you would expect. PA has more config options for setting up tablet UI which is key for me and the reason I use it currently (with Nova Launcher).
I liked JRX Roms as they have lots of apps inbuilt that the others dont, ie working Flash, GAPPS etc.
I'm also using Trinity kernel which is working great, again, I have not noticed much difference between them all.
Try them and take your pick
I say EOS with Mortley kernel

franco.Kernel - r5 vs TS-ALPHA96

im running paranoid android and wondering which one you think will provide more fluid stability as well as performance and battery life.
just want to hear others opinions on here and see where the pros and cons are.
keep in mind, just because i would like to hear opinions doesnt mean i want to hear people bashing developers and their hard work. (i have to say that because im use to the galaxy s3 forum )

franco.Kernel r5 is using some new CPU driver, which I guess implements a better latency/battery saving method for turning on/off CPU cores, as opposed to the older driver in use by TS-96, and in all other kernels (except faux's latest kernel). I think someone reported a device reboot, but it's been fine on my end.

ROM and Kernel - Day Use

Hello Guys,
We're now with a lot good ROMS and Kernels and I already have used different ones. Which one of that have your own quality, possibility and speed. So I want to open this thread to know which ROM and Kernel (CPU Clock and I/O) do you use and why you use this, for day use, for game, etc.:good:
 I know that you can love one specific ROM but let be out of this and share the really experience.
Thanks.

A'ight lads, lets talk about ROM's and kernels.

I've had my nexus 6p for almost a month with SPIGEN case, ROOT and TWRP(that wasn't neccesary). Been seeing alot of roms people have been flashing and kernals as well and I would like to put forward an question for all you whom have flashed roms and kernels. Which, in your opinion and testing, is by far the best ROM and Kernel. I would also love to see some modifications that you use in your Kernel for example governors and things like that. Also a side question regarding ROM, which one is efficient at outputting a good battery life and stable?
