6T still worth it - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Morning all, i have been a long admirer of this phone, I currently have an xperia Xz1, it's been a good phone but starting too look dated now, I just wondering, whether if the 6t is still a good purchase especially with the One Plus 7 around the corner.
Many thanks

Up to you.
If you are in a hurry buy 6T, if not, wait for 7 ( that could be in may).

Thanks, i know what you mean, honestly i think it depends on the price of the Oneplus7 i think that wall decide which phone i will get.
Thanks

If i have a working phone now i will wait for op7.
The price should be around price for 6T. Let's hope they not get greedy..
The OnePlus phone with 5G will be expensive, like 1000$ and useless since we don't have 5g network.

That is true, think i shall wait for the pricing to come out, yes hopefully it will be priced accordingly inline with the 6t , 5g for myself, not needed to be honest.
Thanks again for your input.

I decided after the Galaxy S8+, then S9+, then Note9 it was time for a change. I traded in the Note9 and got a OnePlus 6T and could not be any happier. The galaxy lines are nice, dont get me wrong. But the pure android feel of the OnePlus is much smoother than the Galaxy series.
Samsung does have the better display. Thats undeniable but the OnePlus 6T makes up for it in utter fluidity.

Hey Scott, I was a big fan of your roms for HTC phones, you did great things for those devices. I'm thinkinging about ordering this phone, the only thing that is bothering me is the finger print sensor. How has your experience been so far with the finger print sensor?
If you have an iPhone, how does the scrolling smoothness in apps and the browser compare? Thanks

IM 50/50 on the fingerprint sensor. Its impressive for what it is however not nearly as quick or accurate as a rear mounted sensor.
Scrolling in this on the very latest update (Jan Security patch) is very smooth. I did take off the plastic screen protector because it does take away from the smooth feel and causes a tiny bit of drag with my fingers.

Should i buy OP5 or S8 ?

Well damn, i never thought that i would make that comparison. But here it is ruining my mind because each phone has its strong and weak points.
Each phone is available to be and i can buy for a disparity of 100 euros (OP5500, S8 600). I am also talking about the exynos model.
Why i consider buying OP5:
Blazingly fast, i know that even facebook wont stutter.
Great battery.
Good camera at daylight and great selfie.( I dont really take much pictures but when i do its mostly on selfie or daylight and the differences arent that noticable in that aspect).
I actually like its design.
Front facing and fast FP.
Why i consider S8;
Waterproof/Dustproof.
Cant beat that design.
One of the best cameras in android.
The only reason holding me back is the battery and laggy touchwiz. I have gotten in my hands s8's and every single one has occasional stutters and lags on daily apps. I dont know if touchwiz can be improved but i have seen it with my own eyes all this time and samsung regarding speed needs to do a lot more work.
So i hope that you can see my points and offer some oppinions on this matter. Thank you all!
Edit; I have seen jelly on videos but i dont think that it will affect me in any way. what i fear is that it might get worse though as time passes.
I would say OP5 simply because it doesn't have touchwiz lol
I'm trying to sell my Pixel XL and then I will be (re)-purchasing the OP5. I buy phones mainly for the software experience and the amount of development available for OP devices is incredible.
Personally, I feel the only thing the S8 has going for it is the screen/design and I suppose camera - but these are all subjective. It's not enough for me to want to choose the S8 over the 5.
Just my two cents
I kind of share your thoughts but still not enough to convince me about it, i mean if i see a op5t in the next few months this phone will loose entirely its net worth.
I have both devices .... go for the op5 unless you really care about having a bigger screen.
100% the Oneplus 5.
Whatever you think you're going to get more of on the s8 you'll miss out on so much more compared to the 1+
I made my choice for de 128gb op5 when I could get the gs8 a bit cheaper.
The waterproofness was my main reason to go for the Samsung, I don't value camera very much.
I might be a bit weird but I prefer the design on the op5, not that many people will have it and a Snapdragon for development is a must
Hi, I was also on the fence, I went for OP5 too, for a few reasons :
-Developpement, really important of the Android fun for me.
- Software, TW may be getting better but it is still really a lot of stuff, and I don't like the doubling of features. Thinking about the assistant in particular, since I don't even use Google's. The dedicated Bixby button really is silly for this case.
- I saw an article where people could vote for how much the like photos, blind. OP5 came ahead of S8 (but after LG G6). So it is at least as good.
- Developpement!

Well, Right there, that's your answer. lol don't be fooled, people have been saying that about Touch Wiz for years. "Maybe they can work on it more", but every version is the same, buggy and laggy. Don't hold your breath on that going away with some update.
I owned a Galaxy S7 and at first was really satisfied. Before that I always owned Nexus phones.
The S7 had lot of nice features and good camera. S8 also has... BUT after a few months I just hated the device for TouchWiz lags and massive bloat. Overall experience just wasn't great. S7 had over 350 services/apps installed without user apps. A lot of what you probably never need. And if you start disabling things, battery life just gets even worse.
So go for an OP5 and enjoy the smoothness and development possibilities .

You do know that the Oneplus has some waterproofing? Not certified of course but it's been seen many times on YouTube being fully submerged for over a minute, no problems at all. Apple did the same thing.
Yeah I didn't realize the OP5 was more or less water resistant. There are a bunch of YouTube videos of people doing water tests though, so it definitely seems to be water resistant! That's was one of my few iffy things about it, but I feel much more assured knowing that a quick dip or spill won't fry it.
They never show the OnePlus a couple of days later after being in the water. To show if it truly holds up. I think if the OnePlus was really water resistant they would say it cause it would be a huge selling part.

Three of the videos I found had follow-up videos showing the phone and everything still working. One was after a few days, one was after a couple weeks, and one was just last week (two months after the water test).

I use a Sony Xperia z3c for cycling, which often means rain in the road and mud when I mountainbike. The oneplus is not quite ready to replace de Sony ?
OnePlus 5 for better battery life, performance, smoothness, perceived shell temperature, ram management, oxygen os. Camera is good if there's light.
My last Samsung phones were s6 edge and galaxy s7. Both with ram management issues and on both I could fry eggs (exynos). I can't trust another flagship from Samsung, especially with glass back.. And a short hands-on with s8. The same camera as s7, same amount of ram (=> not that good ram management). For sure i cannot stand that fingerprint position, the glass back and the edges!

I don't think there will be enough upgrades to make a 5T in the same form factor, the 3t had a camera, soc and battery upgrade, the op5 won't be able to get the last one in the same form factor and the first two might but then they'd probably save that for the OP6
I sell Samsung s8 plus for buy oneplus 5 and dont look back, oneplus 5 is better

I was in the same doubt.
I chosen OP5 for:
no touchwiz
no edge display (cool but unsuitable)
snapdragon
dual sim
top level in all features (or almost top)
After 1 month with OP5 im totally happy
One more thing:
I used an s6 edge for a while and the edge screen was the worst of it's features because of accidental touches and simply no useful additions.
It really drove me crazy
had the s8 dual variant. it was sexy as hell.. after two weeks samsung experience bored me altought it had lots of uselful features. I was into custom roms.. more into AOSP/LOS based that is. so I returned it and got a 128gb op5. never looked back
camera quality on both phones are superb. s8 has a slightly better quality tho. but I love the op5's camera overall.
plus the s8's body is really fragile.

Anyone considering moving to the 6T from the 6?

With the fingerprint sensor under the glass, potentially even better camera's and the bigger battery I am seriously temped to sell my 6 and get the 6T when it comes out.
Anyone thinking the same as me or am I just being an idiot lol
This is XDA. We are phone people. Phone people like phones; especially shiny new phones that are currently not in their pocket. Common sense isn't really an integral part of passion. The real question is simply can you afford to buy a new phone which will be at most an incremental improvement and is thus nothing more than a new toy?

Affording it isn't a problem but it does depend on the resale value if I go for it i.e if the price gap is too big to warrant the extra features.
I'm absolutely getting the 6T. I'll keep my 6 for backup and modding.
The 6T looks brilliant. The 7? We'll see. I skipped the 5 and 5T from the 3T.
Never Settle right?
if there will be no headphone jack 3.5, wireless charging, bigger battery, waterproof ip68 and many more, than I wish oneplus will get bankruptcy.
galaxy s10 is the way to go, even it will definitely has retarded curved display, one of the worst intentions.
honestly, I regret that I didn't wait for note9 but at this point already having oneplus6, I can wait till galaxy s10.
this retarded stupid notch on oneplus drives me crazy everyday.
absolutely hate it.
maybe I even should sell this trash oneplus6 phone, however it works well so far.

The S10 will have all of Samsung's bloatware preinstalled and the difference in price would be hard to justify frankly and the difference in camera quality is not as great as the price differential would make it seem.
The headphone jack for me is a non-issue I cannot remember the last time I used it however a bigger battery, under the glass fingerprint scanner, smaller notch are all good upgrades even if the cpu is the same.
Why is your OnePlus6 suddenly trash?

Samsung as well as oneplus has a shi...tty trash software, anyway I need AOSP.
oneplus6 cost me nearly $1000 with proper 256gb storage and galaxy s10 will be even better with 512gb, perfect size.
is going to just a bit more expensive with nearly zero compromises, I need every single possible feature on my phone, especially those features that already on my current phone MUST be on my new phone.
Retarded oneplus seo cannot get it.
I wish them bankruptcy for not delivering a proper product for already high price.
I bought the Huawei P20 Pro and am already considering selling it on eBay for the OnePlus 6T primarily though this is because i dislike the EMUI interface and missed the Bootloader unlocking train with them stopping the service. should still get £400 for it so possibly £70 out of pocket but worth it IMO. I had the OnePlus 3 and i loved that phone just not been overly impressed with the other releases of late.

OP3T user here
why i am not tempted to buy this phone thou i badly need to upgrade since my OP3T shuts down randomly coz of heat issues.
1) no triple camera, all those rumors are false.camera will be a let down with a dual setup visav the other flagships - Honor 10 / Samsung s9 / Note 9 and pixel 3/xl
2) it is no longer a Value for money phone and flagship killer. that tag has been taken over by Poco F1
3) The price has been increasing with every new model thou the justification with 3T was a new processor. 6T will have same SD845 which is in OP6
4) I dont think an inscreen fingerprint scanner is worth the price they r going to charge.for this phone.
5) Removing 3.5mm jack is a big let down and very unlike them when they and the others made fun of iphone when it removed the 3.5mm jack.
.
I shall be getting it shortly after release :good:
Development will be good and hopefully sources will be released shortly after launch just like the previous devices.
I look forward to the release

Well if you've use to the six its just a pinch bigger than that
Haven't made friends with the notch trend and at this point I'm not going to, that one is so huge as to be a deal breaker up front. The only reason I'm looking at this phone is because the notch is minimal and there is nothing out there I could otherwise buy. I don't want to move to a smaller screen which takes the vanilla Pixel out of the running. The Find X was interesting but it would seem a true international variant with working bootloader unlock and root may never be available. Samsung burned me with their idiotic bootloader shenanigans with the Note 8 and it will be a long time before they see any of my money again. Gets pretty thin after that. Heavy sigh...

Regrets? Overrated?

So, i'm a noob to 1+ devices having got my 6T last November and it being my first 1+ device ever. Overall, I really like the device and it's definitely one of the best I've owned. I just don't feel it has lived up to all the hype. I have two lines and still use my Pixel 2XL and lately I'm finding myself liking my P2XL more than my 6T. Believe it or not I feel like my P2XL is faster and more fluid. Anyone else feel similar? I'm not trying to bash the 6T I'm just curious if anyone else feels like me.
Make sure you're on the latest firmware (9.0.11). The 6T OWNS the Pixel 3, let alone the 2, in just about every area except the camera, which gets better with every update. Give it a real chance, you wont be disappointed.
No regrets here. Absolutely love the 6T. My favorite device I've owned and I've owned plenty.
A little regret because I can benefit from its top specs at all. It doesn't support volte or vowifi in Canada.

I am kind of in similar situation.. I have Pixel 2 XL and bought OnePlus 6T.. Though 6T is faster, I feel my 2 XL is smoother and has better experience overall.. and man 6T kills my apps even after disabling all battery optimizations... I even miss voice calls and WhatsApp calls sometimes... Thinking of returning 6T
I had a P2XL previously and moved to a 6T in November. Unless things have improved lately, I found the 6T to be smoother for me. As stated by others, the only area I think the P2XL was better was in the camera, though I have been quite impressed by the pictures taken on the 6T for its price, especially with recent updates. I know we have the GCam port, but think it's still quite buggy. I would be very happy if somehow the HDR+ algorithm was integrated into the stock camera, though highly unlikely. No regrets here.
The obly regret is camera and camera app. The xamera app is so bad, no video recording options
Overrated imo, Price is too high now for what we get their is better value to be had elsewhere, Mi Mix 3 for example in UK it's the same price, Better Camera sensors/software, Better Display and wireless charging etc. OP3 was awesome for it's low price but OP6T doesn't live up to that, OnePlus hype is over for me probably my last OnePlus device.

Well said. The development for Xiaomi devices has been very good, I think that is what I will try next.
No regrets here either, have owned a lot of phones in the past and this one of the best if not the best. Miss wireless charging but the beast battery last forever.
Only had the 6T for a little over a month. Had the OnePlus one, but did not like it. Too many glitches.
They've improved a bunch. For the price, in my opinion, good bang for the buck!
I've owned a LOT of phones over the years. OP6T ranks right up there as far as I'm concerned.
Regrets? Most phones with this hardware are around 1000 euro. Almost every phone factory gets very greedy.
Well the fact that I got this phone for $280 bucks by trading in my s7 edge, I would say is the best deal for any phone I've ever had except for the HTC amaze which I got for free from staples 5 years ago. I would not have paid 580 as I have a brand new note 8 so it was just a back up. It's my 1st and I think it's nice, better then most at this price point.

Don't forget OnePlus is a budget phone with flagship SoC, Storage/RAM only rest of the phone is just cut corners to keep the cost low.
Do you tend to own phones for more than two years? If not, you'll see the overall value and abilities OnePlus devices tend to offer over other devices in the fragmentation department. My OnePlus 3 was still going very strong and I only updated because I was a sucker for the 6T. But truthfully, I never had an issue with my 3 slowing down or developing faults. I can't say the same for any LG, Samsung, or Motorola devices I've owned. OnePlus failure rates are some of the lowest in the industry, and it's evident as to why if you see videos of their manufacturing process on YouTube (Linus Tech Tips and Unbox Therapy I believe).
Sure, other devices may have explosive features that OnePlus may not always include. But at what cost? For the price, stability, support and power that you get with a OnePlus is unmatched. The 3 is STILL getting updates and works great. But if you're someone who updates regularly, I can see why maybe you'd feel like you're missing out.

You know, I thought the same thing but if you take the time to figure out the software its really not that bad at all. Coming from a Pixel 2 XL, I am content with these photos but it seriously took me some time to get used to the camera. Work on your focus, leave HDR on auto; you will be good.
No regrets here.

I just cant stand those oil painting finish photos. Its app problem because on gcam photos looks much better, more details and no oil paint effect.
And i cannot use the stock camera app for movies. There are no settings or options. No focus lenght, no white ballance, no controls for manual control.
Well, if anyone cares I can say that the 6t has been the most awful phone I have ever owned. I literally now own a $700 brick. And OnePlus the company should be ashamed of themselves. I am fighting to get this phone running. And customer support has gone 100% silent on me. My last call, I got the perpetu-hold by the agent and I hung up after about 30 minutes of waiting for her to "consult a coworker". It's been so bad that I am trying to social shame them. I have a youtube post titled "Why my OnePlus 6T sucks and OnePlus Support is awful". I would link it, but I'm too new on the forum.

Well... Why did it stop working?
I have shifted from my iPhone 6s to Oneplus 6t. The main reason for the shift to Oneplus specifically in Andorid is the gestures it offers - switching apps, closing apps etc
After 1 month of usage, I believe Oneplus is the phone, if you want to get things done. Its fast, its battery is amazing. The reason why some people get annoyed is because its just too fast and for this reason it doesn't seem fluid. But trust me, using the iphone for years, I did enjoy the fluidic experience, however, I don't like it anymore and prefer speed, performance and battery life and Oneplus delivers on all these aspects. The teardrop notch and in screen fingerprint make the experience even better

Should I go for the s10 plus if I have a OP 6t?

So I have the OnePlus 6t and can get the s10 plus for 400 straight from Samsung with a trade-in. Do you guys think it is worth it? I don't care about water resistance, wireless charging, the deep integration between the camera api to Instagram, reverse wireless charging, or the large screen as the OnePlus 6t has the same 6.4 inches. I can also sell the Galaxy buds for 100, so there is that. Any input would be helpful.

What did you end up doing? I went for the 10+ and it I like it better than the 6t in every way, except the fingerprint reader on 6t was better\faster.
The biggest problem I had with the 6t was that for some reason after looking at the screen for longer than a few minutes my eyes would start to strain and literally hurt, it's like there was something with the way the screen was that my eyes did not like. it's hard to explain ...and I had never experienced it before on any phone. Suffice to say I don't have the same problem with the S10
Why then

I had to have had same issue with the 6T and my eyes. No issues with the LG G7, LG V40 or my current phone which is the S10.
I also want to know if there OP doesn't care about the major features of the S10/S10+, then why not just stick with the 6T?
I will suggest you to stick with 6T until the one plus 7 is released and then see, they are making a pro model, s10 plus is really good device, but dont spend 400 to update since your device is not that old.
Pros s10
Camera
Display
Processor
Sexy
Pros one plus
Quick updates and speed.
400$ saving
Dash charging
Not worth the upgrade as of now.

Anyone switch to the S10+?

I got the S10+ and have a Mclaren 6T, and I am not really finding that much difference that I might not be keeping it.
Battery is bigger but does not seem to last that much longer but I have only been through a couple of cycles.
The screen is nicer but I not so much nicer that I cannot go back
The cameras are better with more functionality but I don't use all that much
No possibility to root
The One UI experience is the best samsung has ever had but I love the oneplus interface
The fingerprint reader on the S10 is less reliable or I am doing something wrong
Frankly I am not sure it is worth $400 more
Wireless charging is nice but I could get a receiver if I needed it on the oneplus
Warp charging is way faster
Anyone else have thoughts?
Just another overpriced hype phone. No root = no buy
lolsamsung
overpriced crap. and im a guy that has had every sammy phone since the note 2. never going back now that oneplus has carrier support in the US.
Nope! Last Samsung I had, was the Galaxy Note in 2011. Too expensive now.
For me, it's "a phone", not a work of art. Stylish, super duper fast processor, slim & colorful just means
more expensive.
No way going back to Samsung, ever again.
Had first Note, Note 2 and stick for 3 years with Note 3.
All Note's after 3 costed waaaaaaay too much - nothing special worth the price. The same goes for Galaxy S series.
I went with the S10 and was disappointed with the fingerprint scanner. The 6T was faster and less issue. Returning it to T-Mo soon and keeping the 6T or going with the S10e.
Being that I use t-mobile for financing, there is no way im willing to give up rooting and using custom roms so easily.
In the past couple years I've had the Galaxy S8+ and the Note 9 and, while both were fantastic as far as their hardware, the software can't touch OnePlus. It's infinitely better than it used to be but I still prefer a more stock experience and the freedom that comes with a rootable phone. I briefly considered the S10 but passed on it for many of the reasons you mentioned, chief among them being lack of root.
I have had almost every Galaxy flagship there is with no exception. Now that I own this OnePlus 6T I wont be going back to Samsung for any reason. So, in otherwords... No, not switching to any of the S10 series including the Note 10... unless it does something just amazing.
OnePlus for me!
Don't forget the ugly TouchWiz or whatever they call it these days. OPO!
I had S4, S6, S8 ...
Sammy undeniably has the best screen. No discussion.
I hated the software, but all my phones were rooted so I usually put Lineage on S4/S6 and my own custom ROM on S8.
Sammy's camera is much better than 6T, unbelievable that OnePlus can so much **** this up.
There still is lots of bloat on 6T (much less than Sammy) but you can easily remove it. My 6T is tweaked to look and act like a Pixel.
For me the fingerprint on 6T works really well, I boosted the process a bit so for me it is fast and hit rate is ~90% I would say.
I would definitely not switch to Sammy without knowing 100% that it can be rooted.
I had a very bad experience with Sammy service center in Brussels, they refused to replace a cracked screen because there was custom software running on it. So, no more Sammy for me ...
I like my 6T a lot, so going to stick with it for the next year.
The Camera Hole is just ugly. I hate notches being not symmetrical.
Also the back is looking just like the Note 8 / 9. No innovation there.
Of course, NOT !!!
Greedy samsung!!!
Very rare updates ! Bloatware ! Almost the same hardware like OnePlus...
never ever again Samsung...i stopped even considering a samsung device since they introduced this knox thing to make customers lose their warranty in case they want to really own their mobile, i.e. root it...no way ... OP or Essential, nothing else for me atm ...
Well I could have gotten the 10e for free after a trade in for my note 9 and the $200 credit I had with Samsung but in no way would I give up the note for that or any of the s10s. They are smaller then I thought after I had a chance to hold one today but I'm sticking with my note 9 and 6t. It's great to have best of both worlds as I must admit the note series is pretty great and the 6t is also just as nice.

Same here.
I dumped them when they pushed KNOX to my S4 and locked down a previously clean device.
No Samsung for me. Essential or OnePlus. I'm glad the 6T is certified for Verizon. Otherwise no OnePlus for me.
I'm with you guys. I left Samsung forever after my S5 touchscreen went out and official Samsung repair shop refused to warranty it because Knox was 0x1 even back to 100pct stock??.
if anything I'd wait on next year's chip 855 is first 5g bands give it till next year OnePlus has trade up program when 7 comes do that
I will be upgrading to Sony xperia 1. Never Samsung again. Sony phones are just as fast with good battery life. I just appreciate their software.
