Low light - Sony Xperia 1 Real Life Review

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the Sony Xperia 1's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

Your inferiority complex start to be boring with your need to constantly put photo of other phones here.
Go to the iPhone topic to post photo from your iPhone. And in anycase, post full res photo because we can't see anything on your stamp sized photo.
Anyway, since you want our opinion about the comparison, since we can't see detail on any of the photo, colors looks yellowish for xperia, and the sensor is burnt by the lamps. So tbh, no, xperia1 doesn't "win easy" iPhone 11, just look at what you post.
OMG guy, you really did screenshot of youtube videos to take those image? You really are crazy!

Haha well said, he's such a fanboy he'll do anything

Well, a truly fan would accept what he likes with its cons and would defend it. Not make false statement without proper argument just to be the best and only one on earth. That's more like an extremist here.
This is not even a competition!

I don't care about you, I care about the fake information you post here and there. It's a forum, where you share useful information, advice and tips. So yeah, I'm making sure people that read don't take you too seriously, because the last thing we want, is people buying the xperia 1 with your fake information, discovering it was not as they wished, and then just spreading that the phone is **** because they were deceived. You are so blind you didn't even consider that making up information is the worst thing you can do for the phone.
And making up information is also just copy paste some shady informations on the internet without testing yourself and providing original and unbiased proofs.

Haha these 2 are that they stick headers, They do not support that the Xperia 1 has the best camera

Zuk 1 camera interpolation?

I just bought the Lenovo Z1
The phone is perfect for my needs, but I'm not so happy with the camera.
I find the images not crisp enough, like if they were interpolated.
Anyone knows if there is a way to turn off interpolation?
Here is a sample.

Do you have HDR enabled?
Swipe up and down in the camera app to change the mode and report back!
(the UX/UI of the camera app really makes no sense...no sense...).

This has been the biggest thing stopping me from ordering one. On paper, the camera should be pretty damned good. Reviews have been extremely mixed, but it seems that reviewers only use the CM camera app, which has always been somewhere between 'meh' and terrible.
How does this phone do with the Google camera or F-V5, or any of the other common third party apps. One would think that since the Z1 is one of the only lower priced phones with OIS, someone would actually care about the camera beyond CMs crappy software.

Well it's relative as my friend Einstein says!
Comparing it to my note 4, this camera is really weak!
Comparing it to my old nexus 4 it's fine!
It performs currently like an old 8mpx camera! I'm sure it can be improved with software!
You get what you pay for. As the guy above says it's relative. For the money it's super. A better camera app helps alot. Open Camera is good
this is one of the reason also that im not buying yet this device because of the camera quality though im not a selfie or camera guy. but im still considering a phone with good camera. hope Cyanogen improves the camera performance on this device.
I don't have any problem with camera it's ok not really good, If you are using Cynogen camera 10 i believe you will get much better clarity for the pictures...
That's true CameraNext Mod doing the job better quality but still not as we all want.

Camera Quality

I was hoping some of you Zenfone 3 Zoom owners could elaborate on the camera quality. Are you guys happy with it? What level would you say it's at, anywhere remotely close to current or last gen's top flagships? I'm mainly interested in the standard lens.
I obviously don't own one myself but have looked at quite a lot of reviews and videos on youtube and I get that the camera is good for a mid range phone, but can it actually compete with high end phones in terms of details it produces and dynamic range? Quite often the greens seem to be too saturated, the highlights look blown out, and, maybe the factor putting me off the most, the leaves on the trees look like they are painted (I couldnt figure out if that's because of poor HDR processing or whether it happens even with HDR off). Here are two galleries with sample photos that I found online:
Sample Gallery 1, all photos from ZF3Z
Sample Gallery 2, not all photos from ZF3Z
I feel like some of the photos within these galleries demonstrate the described 'issues' quite well, especially those in the google photos album.
Maybe some of you can add more sample galleries to this thread?
This photo shows the leaves and gras looking painted very well, just zoom in and look at the grass in front of the river. Could somebody please test with their own device whether this issue can be solved by turning HDR off or by using a different camera app? Or is it solved with the Nougat update? If this can't be fixed by different settings I would have to conclude that the camera on my Samsung S4 was better than this..
Yes it would be nice to see some pictures. I've just broken my zf3 deluxe and I wondering if zoom s would be good enough to buy.

Hi. The camera is very good, comparable to my previous galaxy note 4 and my wife's galaxy s7 edge.
Fast focus, good image quality and two cameras, one wide 25mm wide and one normal 59mm wide.
Strong point is the portrait mode, which uses both cameras to create a background blur and works much better than I expected. In addition the manual mode is quite interesting.
However I found the front panoramic (for wide angle selfies) much worse than the equivalent of the galaxy note 4: slow, difficult to use and often with mistakes in joining images.
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the camera and the phone.
Ok. Thanks for your opinion. It would be pleasure, if You could post here some pictures in original size. I'm interested the most with some text and exterior fotos to see its quality with details. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, would you be able to upload them in full quality somewhere please? Also I can see from the file naming that they were shot with HDR Auto, could you please upload some comparison shots of the same motive, once with HDR auto on, once HDR off?
Would be much appreciated!
Since no one here has shared photos in the original quality so far I guess the camera really is just good for a mid tier device but can't compete with flagships.
I've read a couple of reviews that also pointed in that direction, eg
digitaltrends.com asus-zenfone-3-zoom-review/ :
[...] the camera is only just usable in low-light. It’s not all that surprising – few phones have come close to offering great low-light capabilities, but with such a camera-centric device, you might expect better. In broad daylight, photos are more saturated than we’d like, and details aren’t as sharp. Not only that, but colors just seem a little off. Photos look somewhat like an oil painting rather than a photograph

I just compared the zf3z camera with that of the iPhone 7 indoors. The iPhone's definitely better, but if you use HDR Pro, the zf3z can get close.
I also own the S7, and in low light its way better than the zf3z.
When using the telephoto in daylight, the zf3z is clearly better.

It has the same sensor as the Pixel 2. Just install the Pixel3Mod camera port from Pixel and you have a Pixel 2
I find with the stock camera that If you turn off HDR and optimization the photos come out really good.

very bad....sorry to say it!
It is much better though than many 12mpxl cameras of the past without any low-light tricks. But it still sucks.
https://www.anandtech.com/show/13038/the-oneplus-6-review/8
V30 with MUCH smaller sensor and pixels obliterates OP6 with its pixel binning. Op5T had pixel binning, but it had it on a sensor without OIS. Hence nobody liked op5t low light blurry mess shots. I have no idea why OP6 devs cant just port pixel binning software to the main camera with OIS and see how it obliterates competetion.
I wish we had somebody who can make this happen. Just make a port of op5T second camera binning software to op6 main camera and have a best allround flagship killing camera. Is it that hard?
I would say its quite good. I compared this with my friend that owns Samsung S8. My photo came out a lot of sharper with so much light in contrast of his photo that came out a little blurry and with less light on photo.

Yeah, it's not forgiving when you use point and shoot mode!
I found turning off hdr makes better pictures. However, lots of reports says 5.1.7 has better low light performance. So one can only hope an update makes it better. Or we just have to hope that when the pixel 3 comes, we can use resources from Google cam for 845 snapdragon.
We hope.....

But if I zoom in on the p20 pro pictures I feel the same... In fact all cell cameras if you zoom just look horrible not made for zooming in tbh. Looks better if looked at a bigger screen.
I own other phone less expensive with Gcam, and zooming the detail is more present...
My daughter face is full of grain and lacks detail...
I've never owned a "premium" phone before and I must say that I'm actually quite impressed with the low-light photo quality - I was having a tour through a cavern, took a few photos and they've actually shown more detail than I could even see! Of course, when I looked at them on a big screen, the photos were noisy and oversharpened, but they were definitely an "instagramable" material and that's what counts for me.

I have Mi 9 SE since it became available in EU, April. There are some small things which bother me. One of them is camera. I tried latest gcam but it crashes and can't be used normally. I found that camera is worst in artificial lighting conditions. Both, main and selfie camera.
I visited Samsung brand store last week and tried to make selfies with almost all of their latest models. What surprised me is that selfies were better also on low budget Samsung phones compared to those I made with my Mi 9 SE in the same room under the same conditions. Room has lights on the ceiling and that was the biggest problem for Mi 9 SE - photos were foggy. Unfortunately I didn't save photos to show you examples.
The same problem occurred with main camera. I have one photo made by my phone, even Night mode was enabled while making that photo. You can see what I'm complaining about: drive.google.com/open?id=1-VvaDb8AQHGUKa5DVWNdEq3AfUsLkkSU
How does your phones act? Is there way to fix that problem?
My photos are Foggy too

I would not buy this phone if Gcam did not exist.
With Gcam this phone takes at least better pics than iPhone X.
Also it really depends which Gcam you use and which settings you prefer.

Indeed, with the Urnyx 7.3 Gcam and the bufferfix flashed in TWRP, the results are much better than Stock Xiaomi Camera.
Google really makes wonders at treating the picture quality, whereas Xiaomi sucks at it, no details in the pics, strange colors and white balance. The hardware is good but poorly used.
The results would even be better with EIS, but for a 300€ phone, the results are already pretty good with Gcam

Color saturation & accuracy

If you're colorblind, please disregard this thread. Rate this thread to express how you deem the color saturation and accuracy of the Sony Xperia 1's display. A higher rating indicates that you think that color accuracy is very high and saturation is excellent.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Really where the phone's screen really shines: the colour calibration on this screen is as good as I've ever seen.
Colour saturation on this phone is proper. From sde by side comparison with S8 and HTC one M8, I can say it's not too saturated like S8 and not dull like M8. It's in between which I think is closer to reality.

I do prefer slightly colder settings. My white balance is on custom. Slightly towards blue.

My custom settings to have a better white balance than the blueish out of the box:
R 72
G 68
B 0
Always on Creator mode.
The screen is great then, good color vibrancy but not Poppy like chinese ones.

Interesting info, thanks.
About the screen color, i also find the default cool setting to be too blueish, im using the medium setting.
I love how Sony optimized this phone for movie, combine with dynamic vibration, awesome experience!

After some trial and error i set mine to this:
Red 61
Green 56
Blue 0
You can play with those numbers, moving in 1 or 2 increase/decrease both at same time red and green numbers
