Really Tricky Problem - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

Hello people!
I've been doing installation of custom ROM and any kind of configuration for a while now. But I have now in my hands a tough problem. My dad bought athene XT1640-DS (Moto G4 Plus), just like the one of mine own, but mine doesn't have the '-DS'.
But the device is stuck at Stock Android 6.0.1 and I can't update it.
The USB seems have some problem because any PC in my house recognize the 6.0.1 phone, but works fine with my up to date 8.1.0 athene, but it's charging only, and the turbo charging isn't working. the fingerprint isn't working neither.
It looks like the bootloader was unlooked, because everytime it's turned on shows the 'bootloarder unlock message'. But I was unable to root it, I tried all the one click root apps, but none of them worked.
It doesn't have any custom recovery, so I tried to update with the stock recovery but every OTA Blur Version rom that I found for athene shows a error telling that my ROM version isn't compatible with the updates (the ROM version code of this phone is MPJ24.139-23.1/ 1 user).
Anyone have any hints of what can I do to update this device?
Device XT-1640-DS
Android: 6.0.1
M8952_7000.04.03.32R

Kernel: 3.10.84-GCF01273

MPJ23.139-23.1

From what I know one click methods doesn't work with this device. You need a proper kernel for android 6.0 like elementalx 1.0. And supersu or magisk zip flashed through a recovery like TWRP.

Is there a way to update de kernel, or do that other things without PC and root?
Or a way to use adb without USB connection?

Have you tried fastboot flash methods like in this thread?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138

So.. the big issue is that this device isn't connecting to the PC, it's charges, but neither the PC not the Android show any signs that their are connected. I can't use adb from the PC because I couldn't make the computer recognize the phone.

can you at least transfer files in mtp mode with the usb cable? because looks like the micro usb port is messed up.
If you are on warranty period you should go for it

I can't use the mtp neither. The only thing I can do is charge. And I'm out of warranty :/

[Q] Updating S5 to Android L Without Computer

i wanted to know if i would be able to update my friends GM900F to the newly released Android 5.0 ROM without a computer.
Only reason im doing this is because for some strange reason his phone isnt being recognised but my S5 (GM900H) is. When pluged in it doesnt even say connected as media device on the phone itself. Tried doing all i could, reinstalling drivers and what not even using another laptop on windows 7, and yes USB Debugging is on
he really wants to flash the new ROM badly and doesnt want to wait for an OTA,
I was wondering if in theory i could get it to work by rooting his phone with towelroot, installing Mobile Odin and then flashing the Firmware?
if it fails and is soft bricked i dont know how to go about fixing it cause it just wont recognise the device at all or install drivers, but my S5 (GM900H) gets recognised fine.
Has anyone ever used Mobile Odin to flash a whole new firmware?
any tips
Wait for first custom Roms and flash via recovery. [emoji52]

Samsung galaxy note prime TWRP Blackscreen (textnow phone)

I installed TWRP bootloader onto my OEM Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Core Prime G360P Via Odin, and afterwords attempted to boot into Bootloader.
Upon doing so the phones screen goes black, and it acts like its turned off. My computer can't detect it with ADB, and I can't boot it back on without removing the battery and then inserting it again, after which it boots normally.
So yes my phone is working, but I need to get the bootloader working, I don't even have the normal android one right now because of this odd bug, i have rooted phones and tablets before both via Kingroot, and ADB depending on the needs of the device, and have some slight experience with it but limited technical knowledge, i have found seemingly similar problems but all said to solve via ADB, which doesnt really work as my ADB cant detect my phone when it is in this dead state it goes into instead of bootloader.
I would like a fix that will allow me to have TWRP installed, nothing that requires root as i have attempted all one-click rooters and none work for my phone, and i cannot install a custom OS as I am on textnow wireless and getting it to work with one is the biggest pain on earth (plus my calling would become sh^te without the custom textnow rom calling)
So basically i need to fix the bootloader without installing a new OS altogether, without deleting any of my inbuilt apps, and without factory resetting as I cant get to the bootloader to factory reset anyway, honestly i just need a way to get TWRP to work. If the answer involves another way of rooting my phone via Odin (yes i can still get to the odin downloader) and then running a root requiring app to fix my recovery thats fine but i dont know how to do that or what it would entail
im using: twrp-3.0.2-0-cprimeltemtr
Textnow wireless uses a custom os that is slightly modified from the default, I don't know what that entails but i know that affects what fixes may/may not work so i am mentioning it
before i get the same answers i have tried:
redownloading TWRP and flashing the new copy instead in case of corrupted image
removing the battery after flashing and then booting directly into bootloader so as to stop it restoring anything
I have tried flashing other recoverys, however upon doing so found that when i tried to boot into the bootloader it would then boot to Odin instead and give me an error saying it was unable to boot normally, so i reflashed the TWRP one and it gave me the same blackscreen once again.
Any advice would be very helpfull, im at my wits end and id like to be able to recover my phone should it have problems later, id much prefer i not get stuck

I found something that worked highly reccomend this autoinstaller for Odin
Search the forums for stock rooted deodexed sm-g360p, thats the TWRP that I use ... almost to much. The rom is also alot more susceptible to root, mods, and tweaks. The rom is sprint, boosts a sprint partner. Its helped me get the 4glte i couldnt pickup with the boost. But definitely find that post. Twrp isn't official to our variant(that i know yet) but it works the same tho a lil dated.

I need Signed Stock/Any Firmware ZIP

Hello all,
I need to help a friend with his Note 4 N910W. The devices has some software issues but has a bad USB. Can not be flashed with Odin.
Already replaced the complete Charging port Flex/Module but still not connecting to PC for data. It doesn't also fast charge as I believe it uses the data pin to detect the charger plugged in.
I have tried rooting without pc then flashing a custom rom but can't find a rooting method.
Can anyone help or point to where a can get a ROM/FIRMWARE which is signed and can flash via the Stock Android Recovery cos I think it's the only next thing that can work.
Thanks.

*[SM-910W8] Broken USB. Root via SD Card?*

Hi all,
I'm just about at my wits end here. I have a Note 4 (N910W8) with a failed USB connection and I would really like to root it. The underlying goal is to remove/disable all samsung bloatware.
WRT the USB, I have tried adjusting developer options, *#0808#, updating drivers, changing cables, changing PC's, etc. I've tried everything I could find online. Recently, I took it to a local shop and learned that the problem is not with the USB port/board, but the motherboard itself. I'm not going to pay to replace it. I have googled far and wide. As far as I can tell, this phone will never again connect to a PC via USB. So, download mode and Odin are out.
I have tried TowelRoot, KingoRoot, and other apk's, but I am on Android 6.0.1 (MMB29M/GLW-N910W8VLS1DPK1) so all of these exploits have been patched.
I am able to boot into (stock) recovery mode, so I thought I'd try recovering via SD card, however that doesn't work either. First I get a loading screen of the mascot with a spinning wireframe polygon in his belly and the message "installing system update". Then after ~15 seconds, the mascot is on his back with a red warning symbol over his belly, and the text "No Command." is displayed. I'm not sure what that's all about, because I have the latest update installed.
Any attempts to install CF-Autoroot or another recovery firmware (ie https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-N910W8/region/GLW/ , or https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/trltecan-n910w8-aoa1-stock-rooted-t3025538, etc) from SD (in recovery mode) have been met with the same error messages:
E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed
I'm not sure why because at least some of these recovery firmwares claim to be official builds. Granted, they are older versions (downgrades), but are signed nonetheless.
I have tried installing TWRP or CWM so I can disable signature verification, but AFAIK the device must already be rooted to install these (which seems like a bizarre catch-22, but maybe I'm confused) so that's a no-go.
It certainly feels like I have explored every possible avenue, but I have one remaining idea. Perhaps if the phone doesn't want to downgrade, I could force its hand by carefully soft-bricking the current rom in a controlled manner, then performing a recovery from SD with an official 4.4.4 KitKat build, and finally, using the towelroot/kingoroot/etc exploit to gain root access.
I mean, why else would there be a recover-from-SD option in the stock recovery menu? There must be a way to get it to accept a recovery build...
It's a last resort. But I'm willing to try it. The phone boots up, but is so bloated and laggy that it's practically unusable. Still. Am I missing anything? Surely there's some way to skip the USB / Odin method. What do you guys think? Is it time to go hulk on this thing? Is there any hope left? Curious to see how much further this rabbithole can go.
Cheers and thanks guys.
I've searched for ways to soft-brick, but have not come across anything. The bootloader appears to be locked, which is odd because I thought that only applied to Verizon variants.
I have recently downloaded an ADB/fastboot package for windows so I could attempt ADB over WiFi, however I can't establish a connection. I thought I'd do some more poking around on the phone side, so I installed some Wireless ADB apps. They all indicate a root is required, so I think that might be a dead end. I also connected to a ubuntu machine. Nothing. The phone charges, but both the PC and Ubuntu machine show zero signs of any connection at all.
There has to be some kind of SD-based solution to this. You can boot a computer from an SD card / USB stick and use that to access files (on an unencryped partition), and I'd be happy to do that here and delete those bloatware APK's directly... but I guess phones don't behave like other computers.
I've picked all the low hanging fruit. A part of me believes that there are some sneaky hacker ways to get at this without USB (ie some sort of rootkit) but that's way beyond my abilities. I'm going to take a break and attack this again once I have fresh ideas.
I'm in the same boat (busted usb port), does your phone still fast charge? Mine stopped fast charging.
I too have the same problem, except with the Note 10.1 2014. I know that is a different forum, but if you find a solution, it might be adaptable to my problem. I too have exhausted all other options as described above. Please someone, there must be a way to root via SD card instead of Odin. Help us please!
Me too. I have a Note Pro 12.1 running Lollipop. USB is busted and I've already replaced the port and ribbon, so it must be the motherboard. I mainly need it for Titanium backup, so I don't have to reinstall large games over my limited connection.
I have the same problem. Note 4 N910H. Not recognized by pc, stopped fast charging shows usb charging in battery settings. AFAIK I just re-rooted the phone before it went bust. There is no solution except changing the motherboard. Also this problem seems to be quite common.

ZC550KL Woes - Unable to Root - Z010D - Fastboot Not Working

Hello Everyone,
I am having lots of issues with rooting my ZC550KL. Used both the Asus Utility Unlocking tool (The APK does not install even though the unknown sources option has been enabled) and the Fastboot hangs while looking for a connected device. I have had used the Google USB Driver on Windows and the Phone is recognised, also tried this on Linux and still no luck..
Can someone help me with any other fresh Ideas on how I can get this sorted? I have had used the latest Update from Asus and updated to marshmallow. Also not sure if I can downgrade back to 5.0.2 which was the original Firmware this phone was shipped with.
Really appreciate any feedback.
After a few hours of digging, I've ended up flashing the stock Lollipop Image and now I am finally rooted..
