Too many people are trying to take the easy road and post a new thread on a subject or idea, usually asking a question about something that has already been answered instead of doing a simple search!
I've been a member here for a couple years now and haven't needed to post very much because, if you take the time, the information is out there. 99.9% of the time, you aren't the first person to ask a question, have a problem, or hit a wall.
If you're having trouble doing something that was posted in a thread, POST YOUR QUESTION IN THAT THREAD!!
It seems as though there are a lot of newbies who are anxious to root their Inc, which is fine: If you pay attention, read the instructions and most of the thread before you begin, and follow them to a T . Every time I have a problem either rooting or installing a ROM or something else, I am the one who did something wrong.
Some of you are probably new to the Thread concept, which is also fine. It's very frustrating getting used to how they work, and learning the "right" way to do things- but trust me, it's worth it.
Posting a new thread is like standing on a chair in the middle of a crowded room and screaming out a question. If your in the wrong room (i.e. wrong section), people are going to be upset. If the question was already answered by another group (i.e. another forum), people are also going to be upset. If you aren't sure if you should start a new thread, you probably shouldn't.
Take the time and READ THE RULES! Here they are if you don't know where to find them:

1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 New Members: Treat new members the way you would have liked to have been treated when you were a new member. Provide the new members with guidance, advice and instruction always with respect and courtesy.
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
4. Use the English language.
We understand that with all the different nationalities not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English use an online translator, You're free to include your original message in your own language below the English translation.
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, either pay or find your cracks and serials somewhere else. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained.
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intent on selling something.
As an elaboration to rule number 7, don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. If you are the proprietor of a for-pay product or service, you may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or offer support on the product, but you may not make any posts with the primary intent of selling. This includes posting press releases, announcements, or links to downloads for trial software. The only exception to this is when you’re posting an exclusive release to XDA.
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

So instead of starting a new thread like "How do I.." or "Where do I" or "Why can't I..." Do a search of the threads, Google it, or even hop on over to PPC Geeks, Trust me- you'll find the answers you're looking for.

I wish people had to read this before they could post new threads. This forum seems to be worse than most of the other android forums on xda... not sure why.
Everyone who disagrees with this should check out the nexus one forum to get an idea of how lax things are here.

You better watch it. Some people may take offense to this. people also have to be aware when they do make a new thread that it is in the correct section. Too many questions are being posted in Development instead of General. Let's keep the sections on topic so people can find what they came looking for.

I agree, but I can see the other side as well.
The "Root process" thread is up to 108 pages. Sure, searching helps, but you are still poring over pages and pages of forums for hours. I kind of learned that this was the buy-in from my WinMo days, but that doesn't make it less frustrating.
One advantage to sticking to existing threads, however, is that people who are successful will probably post back to that thread, with any variations they used, whereas they are less likely to post to a new thread.

You know they won't. The ones who post these repeated topics are the ones who freak out when they're lost, post a topic, and hit refresh all day instead of looking for the answer. The only ones who actually read this are the ones already pissed off about it.

There are so many pages of topics because of the issue that is being described. There is a very handy function called "search" that, while not perfect, at least narrows results down for you. You can search within a Section, Topic or down to a single thread for key words.
Odds are, if you are on here you know how to navigate the web. If you can't perform a basic search in a topic or thread then please don't try to root your phone or follow any instructions to change, modify or "hack" anything.
As was brought out by [OP], if you WANT to do something that you think will be useful to you, read up on it. If you do run into an issue, search the key word of your issue. Entering "boot loop", "frozen", "Error message 123" will return something to help you find your answer. Odds are, you are not alone and, if you find you are alone, return to the thread where you were following instructions to do whatever it was you want to do and post a reply describing your issues. [OP] or others who are familiar with the process will help. Patience is a must.

Far too long than I care to admit - My first draft was rather angry and the overtone has calmed quite a bit...
And even if ONE newbie reads it and gleans even a whisper of insight as to how to operate the forums, then I have been 100% successful- even if 1% of those who read it take this to heart, at this point, that's still 2 fewer Threads the moderators have to close down...

And even if ONE newbie reads it and gleans even a whisper of insight as to how to operate the forums, then I have been 100% successful- even if 1% of those who read it take this to heart, at this point, that's still 2 fewer Threads the moderators have to close down...

9 times out of 10 - even if they DO search,it's only once,and when they don't find the answer - instead of trying a different search, they go right to posting a new thread. You have to try a few different variations of your search first,and more than likely you WILL find the answer. It's just a matter of patience and thought.
Shouldn't this be in the rant section? Lol...I kid, I kid.
Can the Admin please edit forum with restriction on which usergroups can post new topics in the dev threads, ie maybe Senior and above or people with over a certain amount of posts etc.
This would virtually stop all the questions/help etc going in the dev thread by the n00bs and also cut down on the work that mods have to do because im quite sure mods are sick of having to move 100's of topics a day in the forums (not just HD2).
Wouldn't the restriction make things much more clean and organised?

I am a Global Moderator on our forum for FIAT automobiles (www.fiatisti.hr) and we have a restrictions for any people who not have 50 posts and do not right to write in some forums. This is a lower limit to create threads.
In this way we have a more lowest junk on forum. People doe`s not have to use search option on forum and think that is much easier way to ask some people to resolve our problem.

Oh God please, this would be great. If people cant be bothered to read on their own here, I see no reason why anyone else should bother.

Important and helpful threads like that can be moved. At least lesser clutter.

That actually wont work, that would if anything overload all the mods with posts or PMs asking for this and that.
I too agree about the useless posts to get post counts up, But not to cause any rift at all, but im going to go against this as well like kam333 about post counts or even being a senior member, and the reason is upper level people are just as guilty of doing this as well. The only difference is they have the ability to move their posts after they have it seen. If you take this post for example:

If anything, maybe limit junior members to only be allowed to post in the general forum of each section? Like General for HD2 winmo, and General for HD2 Android, this way it limits all the places they can post to ask the same questions.
Guys im not saying that restricting it to senior and above will cut everything out, Only that it will cut allot of it out, probably 90%.
If you check dev forums on regular basis you will know that 90% of the off-topic posts that get put in there and end up getting moved are from new members.
Restricting new members to not been able to post here will help a great deal, sure some retarded senior members or maybe by simple error will post in dev but it will be a hell of allot less off-topic then it is now.
There will also be a lot of new members not able to post when it's really correct for them to do so. The only correct answer is to ignore badly posted stuff and let mods do their job.

I 100% completely agree with this. Not only do i feel that it is an abuse of position, but that the topic itself would get any ordinary non menber in trouble. It is so close to being over the "line" it is an open abuse of the rules that everyone else has to abide by. How can it be against the rules for a dev / chef to say "pay me for xxx and i will make it for you" but NOT against the rules to say "i will pay someone to make xxx" ?
I would report the thread but somehow i doubt anything would happen.
But back to the topic in hand, some sort of limitation of posting rights *is* required but i dont think it should be based on post count (take Cedesmith for example - less than 300 posts but a very active and intelligent developer), perhaps the more elegant solution is a time based limitation? eg, you are unable to post in development threads until you have been a registerd user, and you profile is set to the current device for say, 2 weeks ?
i think that the time restriction is more viable than the post count restriction for the simple reason you aren't going to get noobs signing up just to post the question if they have to wait 2 weeks. Where as if u put a post count restriction they will just spam to reach the count required

Did you read the topic properly, this topic is regarding the dev threads not general stuff. If they are a new member then they have no reason to post in those threads and if they are a dev then can ask a mod or admin to maybe move them into a "dev" usergroup and that way they can post.
The whole point is that we shouldnt need to ignore badly posted stuff, the dev section is simply for posting dev stuff not n00b questions.

I think you are missing point slightly, Once a n00b tries posting in there and gets a message about not been allowed because its a dev forum, they are not going to purposely spam other forums just so they can post in there.
Its about restricting n00bs from accidentally posting in there because they didnt bother to read forum titles.
by the time somebody has a certain post count or has been registered member for a amount of time its less likely for them to post in a n00b question/topic in the dev thread.
I dont know, so I have to ask the question, Is there the ability to stop a noob from posting in the dev forum, but allow him to reply? One reason I ask this, is if the answer is no they wont be able to reply either, then the course of action is unjust, because if there is any bugs in a build they cant reply to the thread, if they can, then that might be an alternative, but here is another twist, as well all know post counts can go up very quickly, hence just replying "Thanks" or "I'm going to try this" counts too (Just used for examples).
But I think personally there should be another level now that I just thought of it, Like we have Senior member status, there should be a DEV status, and set the forum if possible that ONLY DEV's can post where others can reply, and if someone is a DEV they can easily PM a mod and the mod can change their status. Or if they want to contribute in the Dev forum like they made a kernel or rom, then that would constitue them to post in that forum.
You need to understand and look into vBulletin before you ask for changes to the forum. This is not going to happen.

I was trying to find the thread and for some reason, it might bave been deleted. What gives? I figure it might be because of that stupid rom that is asking for profit?
There was plenty of good information in that thread especially for us users of the dual sim note3. I wish it could be restored, and just the crap paid rom deleted...
Might have been archived, use the thread in the general section of XDA to ask a staff member.

Discussing for pay roms is not allowed, especially when it involves malware. Thread has been removed.
I have already ask him why because I do not understand. I have written instal guide to SVA 3.5 (cause I have it) but it was also for 2.0 which is free. If it is against rules, then OK, he can delete 2 or 3 posts and say, stop talk about it. And not to delete complete thread with usefull infos.
And if it has malware, then he should tell us more about it.

I was also disappointed not finding the 40+ page thread about the N9002 today. I was specifically looking for the fix to the following:
Others.xml fix for caller ID issue (I have since found it elsewhere, and the "-1" parameter value worked for me).
Fix for Google Account randomly signing out (it happened to me first two times I rebooted since loading a new ROM, but hasn't reoccured the rest of today).
Fix the "process com.google.process.gapps has stopped..." error (I've cleared app cache for some google apps, so now under observation).
The N9002 thread was very useful, so I am also hoping that only the SVA related posts should be deleted.
I just upgraded my N9002 to the latest N9002ZNUDMK1 today, loaded CWM recovery, and then a 3rd party ROM. I'm loving the N9002 more and more now.

I did not know about that rom having malwares. Never really liked that SVA. Good thing i stayed away from it. However, its still unfair to delete the whole thread because of it.
Reading through and cleaning a +400 post long thread every few weeks isn't feasible. If you see people discussing something that obviously goes against multiple forum rules then please report them.
By being complacent you're doing nothing but driving off good devs and hurting everyone else who has the device.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. So, can we create a new n9002 thread now or can we just ask this thread renamed to the n9002 thread? I still would want to see people getting directed to the right place when they search n9002 xda forums in google...

sorry, no offence, but you are lying.
You write that the +400 posts long thread is full of posts against rules but at the same time you write that you can not read it and clean it, so how do you know?
We are talking about one post where somebody (not me) has posted direct link to that paid ROM.
Or is SVA forbidden here completely? Also the free ROM?

The thread is 412 posts longs and it tells you the post number at the top of the posts. Just because the thread is not visible does not mean it is completely gone.

Calling someone a liar isn't very "polite". If your goal is to get banned just say so, there's no need for the passive aggressiveness.
As was explained in the private message to you, do not discuss it here. Talking about for-pay ROMs in any way shape or form is not allowed. If you want to advertise them for you can do it from your own website.
Ok, now thats that done. I suggest that this thread be closed and I'll just create a new n9002 thread.

Shame. I am one of the many owners of N9002 that had benefited from information in that thread. There were many useful posts in that thread that didn't have anything to do with paid ROM's at all. There were techniques to root, debloat, and put back Google stuff on N9002. Only because there were some guys posted about a paid ROM the entire thread was deleted?
