Low light - LG G8 Real Life Review

At the club, at the bar, or just in your mom's basement, nighttime is when you come out to play. Rate this thread to express how the LG G8's camera performs when no or low light is present. A higher rating indicates that the camera sensor "sees" lots of light in dim conditions, and that the resulting photos have minimal noise. A higher rating also indicates that when the flash fires, the resulting photo is evenly-lit without any bright spots.

Amazon low light. Comparable to the S10 in my opinion. Utilize RAW for best results if you are familiar with processing photos.

Are you using the manual mode, or night view mode? I only see raw options in manual.
Either way, I totally agree. Night shots can look very nice with just a bit of attention.

From the few low light pics I've taken with my G8s (yes, technically not a G8, but if you are impressed with the samples I posted below then I guess you would be even more impressed with the actual G8 because it has a superior camera), I can say I was pleasantly surprised. One thing to note though, the results are waayyyyyyyy better with the Google Camera port. Like some YouTube reviewer said (can't remember who it was), LG's Night View isn't aggressive enough. It still makes a difference, just not a huge one. So yes for Low light pictures I recommend using the GCam port.

Hmm, it's strange that it crashes. Try uninstalling it and install this one instead. Don't forget to allow all the required permissions https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/Gcam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.7.190716.1800.apk
It should work without changing any of the settings.
However I recommend using these settings : https://mega.nz/#!xHRllIAI!7iKlwhrkHx_T0oxIVcj4HbuH7Z8xRsJ27XBuh9EsJPo these are the ones I use personally. To import them, create a folder named "GCam" on your device. In GCam folder create another one and name it "Configs". Copy the lgg8s.xml file to Configs. Then, open Google Camera application and quickly tap twice on the black area next to the shutter button. Now you can import the lgg8s.xml file.
Let me know if it worked.

This is a picture I took at 11pm(automatic mode).
Since I am not professional enough, I will leave it to you to evaluate.

If you didn't save the JPG yourself in this quality upload it somewhere else - the lettering itself shows JPG artifacts as well hinting that it has compression which will make the overall result look a lot worse then it is (or can, most likely).

I just checked it with my browser. The picture is really compressed, but there is no visual loss that can be perceived by the naked eye. (too lazy to upload the original picture)

New night mode and night sight. Night mode works great but in extreme low light is still not enough to give a usable picture. Night sight operates some kind of magic in these same situations, much better than the stock cam. But in terms of exposure and color i actually prefer the stock night mode. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1EA3P_ZhhN6MgyL_irxl-GCOBVPhPtMfs/view?usp=drivesdk

Photo quality

Say "cheese", then rate this thread to express how photos taken with the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S come out. A higher rating indicates that photos offer rich color (without over-saturating), sharp detail (with all subjects in-focus), and appropriate exposure (with even lighting).

I'm finding that most of the pictures I'm taking of people seem to be softened by the software. The softening of the pictures actually make them look pretty bad. Anyone else having this issue? Just using default settings when taking the pictures

Pretty happy with color range and image sharpness
Low-light obviously lacking a bit, but over all I think the camera is fine.

Has miui10 added any camera changes for the Mi Mix 2s?
Hi guys, curious, has anyone experienced choppiness when viewing through the camera? and the potrait mode is terrible contrary to much of the rave reviews.. the background blur is not uniform most of the time.. any advice or tips?

Agree, portrait mode is terrible, also all the photos add some kind of softening filter. Only good thing is that you can edit the center of the photo so you can move the bokeh effect.

Well I use open camera mostly due to options. At low light I've found that the image quality is GREAT if you use 4MP(16:9) checked with 9MP and 12MP(always at 16:9 ratio).
In 4MP at very low light I was super impressed(always 100% jpeg quality in the open camera app). Test it yourself, it worth your time. Just make sure you have a steady surface
EDIT: uploading pictures 12MP, 9MP, 4MP
Image difference 2-3 seconds apart - 9:00pm (4MP>12MP>9MP). Don't know why 4MP is so much better(less MP is worse than 12MP)

What do you give up by using open camera (does tele and wide angle switch work and how is 4K video etc) so far I like the manual mode of the stock miui camera app but also like the idea of using a standard app off the play store

Well if you want optical zoom you still need to use the stock camera, 4K rec? you can but I pref 1080p also I do like to adjust the bitrate of the video and audio and open camera does have that. I use to use this app to my 1+1 too
I like to customize everything and miui camera well ..2-3 settings at best
P.S. Open camera also doesn't have panorama but talking to the dev and said he's planning to include a panorama soon - Did you check the low light quality in 4MP? impressive(compered to higher res)
testing

It's terrible in low-light. Use Google cam for usable images in low-light.
I dont think so majority of people know how to make the best use of pro mode.

Obviously long-exposure shots will be brighter than regular shots. Not everyone will use a tripod, I'm talking about Night mode.
The phone's hardware is fine, great in fact. But the software is just awful. Here are some shots using Gcam and stock cam. The first 2 are from stock cam, night mode on, badly over-processed, and noisy as hell. The 3rd and 4th shots are cleaner, less noise, more vivid, and a lot more detailed are from Gcam.

Selfie quality

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the ASUS ZenFone 7 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.

7 Pro User here:
Selfies in good to moderately low light are very good. Sadly there is not option to un-mirror the image, so you will always end up with your mirror image (something I do not appreciate). Detail is very good and beautification can be turned off completely. In very low light colors are rather muted. Flash images have a very cold color temperature. This is not state of the art, where good camera software usually can compensate for that and give nice, natural image even with LED flash.

See attached pic.
Interestingly this option is not available on my device. I did all available updates.
Selfie should be better with a gcam port.
Gcam is overated big time.. Many missing features in gcam that is exclusive to this phone. for example you cant choose the 120hz or 60hz or wideangle or even the macro lens in the video or pic mode on Gcam.. The factory app just gives you all those best options..
HOWEVER
In low light or dim light I find the factory camera will often try to focus in and out every second or 2 and makes the video look like its being shaked around. When using Gcam it wont do that. So be sure to turn on a light or maybe try using manual mode which does a very good job but takes some time to fine tune.
Other than that focus issue in low light this camera is the best I ever seen. very impressive.. Video is super smooth. Choose H.265 to get the best quality and lower memory card usage..

The 'Night Vision" mode is pretty good, but it takes quite some time to process the image.
I think there are no details in the photos. I shoot with Samsung s7 edge, it can be seen that the photos are better. But this one is a lot cheaper.
I have g9 plus and s7e.

For some reason most gcams don't work right on this phone, with night sight giving the same results as regular HDR+. The only one I've found that works right so far is https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/changelog1208/
