sideloading ota

Hi I have an unrooted 6p I have never messed with the software but I am on the dp program I usually get the updates within hours of it being announced. But for some reason I have not gotten the 7.1.1 stable with December security patch which is odd but anyway I tried side loading the OTA and it gets to 40% and then says installation aborted. I have the and setup right and all that I can reboot into bootloader does anyone know why it would be doing this? When I was at work today I thought maybe if I disable the allow seamless update option in developer options maybe that will allow it. Any thoughts?

Ok I feel like an idiot. I tried again when I got home from work and it seems that the file I am trying to flash is from November 1 which I already have installed. It is the last one one the Google OTA page. So is it not out yet for the 6p? I'm confused can anyone help me out please

I believe you'll need to unenroll from the beta program first before attempting to sideload the OTA image. The latest OTA image is NMF26F, which includes the December security patch. And make sure you boot into recovery, and not the bootloader to install the update using adb.

Ok if I unenrolled from the dp program I should just get the OTA then I won't have to side load is what I'm guessing. It seems that Google had the stable build done before they released the last dp because the file says November 1 build and I got mine on November 5 that is why it won't allow it.

Mi A1 Oreo 170623.026.7.12.29 Encountered Bugs

Hi Guys,
I did not receive OTA for Oreo on my Android One and had to reset my phone to get the OTA update. After that once I installed Nougat Fastboot Rom and it was on August 2017 patch and wasnt receiving OTA again so I flashed Oreo Fastboot Current Rom and later locked the bootloader through fastboot oem lock command. I thought it was only me who is not getting the latest January Patch. Following are my questions:
1. Are we going to get Oreo 8.1 or any patch for january? I am not a beta tester.
2. How do I know if my phone is still receiving OTA?
Bugs encountered, please let me know if any one has the similar bugs.
1. Sudden crash of google chrome, android web view or some other apps like ventura wealth etc.
2. Camera doesnt start sometimes.
3. Battery Drain.
4. Phone rings but there is no caller id when phone is locked.
5. Multiple Contacts for various apps can be seen in native contact apps which makes it difficult to select the required contact.
6. No Fingerprint Gesture control.
7. Mi Remote not able to put shortcuts on desktop and no option to grant permission too.
8. No Flash Notification.
Please let me know something useful.
I have got Nougat Rom of December patch. Is it wise to use that?

So I just flashed Nougat December patch official fast boot rom.
I am not being shown any ota for oreo or for any thing.
Is this normal.

Yeah, I did a fastboot flash last night. Just got the update. Just wait.
The update rolls out in batches so you just have to wait your turn

What you mean is that as soon as I put official fastboot rom, I wont immediately get the OTA. I will have to wait. For eg. I am trying with August Patched Official Tissot rom now.

Stay with the December update since you'll only get OTA if you're on December update.
Just be patient. It may take a day or two or even a week but you'll get it.
Installing a fastboot ROM helps improve your chances but doesn't guarantee anything

BND-L21 UK Honor 7X - full Oreo OTA updates OK in Firmware Finder

Hi, UK Honor 7x owner. Had it direct from Honor when it first came out.
I was on BND-L21C432B101 when I first bought it and the only update I could get to update in Huawei firmware finder was the B102 update - I did that update a good while ago and never got any updates via the official update checker and no other update in firmware finder was OK to install via the "check firmware access" .
I have been hitting check for updates many times over the last week but no show. So feeling reckless I set firmware finder to full OTA only and the Oreo update was listed - checked via the "check firmware access" and it said it was OK to install. So set the auto DNS-VPN option and the phone updater picked up the full Oreo OTA (2.47gb BND-L21C432CUST432D2B330 (8.0.0.330)) and it downloaded fine, did a verification OK, then some other check that seem to fail - but I disabled the Firmware Finder VPN and hit to check again and all OK, reboot and it did the update and now on Oreo
Oreo works fine. My impressions (note I use nova launcher prime so my home screen looks and works the same as before).
Pretty underwhelming, 3 advantages. 1) latest security update. 2) face unlock (but it's a bit hit and miss) so finger print unlock is still the way to go. 3) Nav bar hide function - but a bit clunky as it doesn't auto hide. 4) treble support but no really solid ROMs to try yet so a bit niche
And that's about it! So if your stuck without Oreo at the moment then don't get too stressed out unless you absolutely can't survive without the latest security update.
I had heard H7 Oreo was treble compliant - and a checker says it is but not seamless updates (two partition requirement).

Make sure you are running the VPN in firmware finder, should have no problems then.

I tried the auto and manual through DNS and still download failed. I also tried the in-app proxy and still fails to download. But when I press on download from the FF app, it's downloading fine. But I'm not sure how install it that way.

Suspect you would need to use a custom recovery after the update has been extracted. I can only point you at my original post for doing it the way I did it. Using the auto-dns VPN option worked for me. I assume the firmware finder servers must suffer some overload sometimes perhaps? Perhaps try at a completely different time of day you have tried before? Are you using mobile data or home BroadBand WiFi?

I tried to update via pc using an older version of HiSUITE and Firmware Finder PC and seems to be working that way. Update is still downloading at the moment. Pretty excited here. :laugh::laugh:

Tried with at least 5 different versions of hisuite, it always says it is up to date. Changed DNS on computer and on hisuite and no luck

Any of you tried connecting into a VPN whilst tether to this device?
I know Samsung devices won't allow you to when data savings is enabled, but I can't get it to work on this device.
Tempted to unlock the bootloader and put LineageOS but I've read it reduces the battery life significantly
I've found an update to 8.0.0.331, but that is for the L21C10. Not sure what the difference is compared to the L21C432

No way, you are not going to believe this. Yesterday I tried with that version and it didn't work, today it worked! Running Oreo now :victory:

I've downloaded BND-L21C432CUSTC432D2B330 - 8.0.0.330 - 133039, but right after reach 99%, pops up a message saying "Download Failed"...

No joy updating. Downloaded the oreo full OTA but failed at 5%. Tried with 3key combo and *#*#2846597#*#* but no joy...
Don't want to mess with the phone (twrp , root etc) as bricked phone in the past.

I picked up a second hand Galaxy S8 (SM-G950UI 64GB) over the summer with plans to root it and install a custom ROM. I haven't activated it yet, but I was using it on my home WiFi and was notified that it downloaded an OTA update and it would be installed on the next boot. Since then I haven't touched it because I know that some updates can complicate or nullify the ability to root or install a custom bootloader, ROM, etc. I've done some searches on how to prevent the install, but haven't found anything except for how to disable your phone from downloading it to begin with. Now that the update is downloaded to my phone, is there a way to halt it's installation before I move forward with activation and customization? Or is this even a concern I should be worried about?

factory reset, if no gogle account. if there is google account the phone is doomed.

or just neglect the update and directly boot in download mode, uncheck auto reboot in odin options tab, and flash twrp. also s8 can potentially get to Android 11, but latest is 10, you can ask me if needed

Unfortunately I'm reading that my g950ui is pretty locked down as far as custom recovery and roms are concerned to begin with, so this is kinda irrelevant after some further research this morning.

Probably type on build number 7 times and send me A screenshot? Is oem unlock greyed out?
also remember to also delete samsung account if there is,and remove screen lock.

There is no samsung account and I removed screen lock.
OEM Unlocking isn't even a greyed out option on my phone. It's completely removed from the menu.

maybe try flashing G950F firmware in odin?

Mi A1 was released with August 2017 security patch and received its last update on August 2020, something similar should happen for Mi A2 too.

ota should work with an unlocked bl, IF you have not changed the system. unlocking means you could change it, it doesnt in itself deny ota updates

I´m also waiting for anyone that reported that made the update. I have Setember Update with bootloader unlocked because of camera2api, i don´t made any system changes, and i get all the updates until september without problemes. After that i get Bootloop on October and don´t update anymore. If anyone upgrade from setember with sucess please report.

you answered your own question. if you've unlocked AND made ANY changes to the system ota can bootloop ofcourse.

With unlocked bootloader factory reset is needed once and only once when updating from any version < 11.0.15.0 (October patch) to any version >=11.0.15.0 regardless of update method (OTA or fastboot reflashing). I suspect that Xiaomy made breaking changes to /vendor and/or other system partitions in 11.0.15.0.
So if you want to fastboot flash 11.0.19.0 over 11.0.14.0 or 11.0.5.0 you will need to make factory reset or just flash with "flash_all.bat/sh".
I've seen reports here that factory reset was also required on fully stock phones when receiving 11.0.15.0 October OTA, and I am really sorry for those users, as they had no chance to update with full recovery of user data.
Those having unlocked bootloader can make full recovery of user data after reset using TWRP backup of /data partition, guide is here:

I believe neither Xiaomi nor Google can answer this question.
Anyway,
1) right now factory reset for unlocked MiA2 is needed only once when updating from any previous ROM version to any currently available ROM version >= 11.0.15.0;
2) having unlocked phone one is sure that his data can be restored in any future mishap;
3) unfortunately unlocked phone prevents usage of most of banking apps unless Magisk + Riru + edXposed installed with MagishHide On and GooglePlayServices in Blocked List (SafetyNet issue).
So everyone decides himself whether to
a) keep phone untampered (with risk of loosing data with next OTA bootloop),
b) or unblock phone and then stay with updating stock (spending some time to get root, make SafetyNet passable, remove annoying settings suggestions, customize UI, etc.) ,
c) or unblock phone and then revert to Android 9 10.0.17.0 (disabling updates),
d) or unblock phone and then escape to a Custom ROM.
I personally prefer option (b) since my first Android gadgets (never bought a phone/tablet which had problems with rooting).

after updating "Google Find my Device" app battery holds like before all ok now but i never use that app not even logged in calendar app also updated at same time but i don't thin it was calendar
