Need a working way to change DNS settings on Mobile connection for non-rooted device - Networking

Hi,
I am desperately searching for a way to change the DNS settings for the Mobile data plan of a phone (it is for my children, and I try to prevent them from inappropriate content using alternative DNS).
I found this XDA Guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ide-how-to-change-dns-android-device-t3273769
Changing DNS for Wifi is working fine, but unfortunately it fails for the mobile plan ! I mean the DNS servers remain the provider DNS servers after activating the DNS changer.
I tried several apps, both using the same trick: a VPN to change DNS: "Lily DNS changer", "Engelsiz", "DNS Changer (no root 3G/WiFi)", "Switch DNS".
it is failing all the time for Mobile Data Plan.
I tested on a Nexus 4 with LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1) and LineageOS 15.1 (Android 8.1)
After I read this https://www.androidpolice.com/2018/04/20/make-android-use-dns-server-choice/ and DNS changing seems to arrive "as part of the Private DNS mode of Android P"
As DNS change is already OK for wifi connections, I assume Android 9 could be the 1st Android version to solve my needs.
Consequently, I tried "Switch DNS" on my Oneplus 6 (OxygenOS 9.0.3 - Android 9) and I can't change the DNS on Mobile Plan either !!!
The Nexus 4 phone is 3G (H+) only but the OP6 is 4G/LTE so it seems not related to Connection technology.
All these DNS changers seem to be used by most users to filter the web and scrap Ads, but using the same method : using alternate DNS !
Am I the only one interested to change my DNS on the Mobile Plan Connection ???
Is there anyone here who successfully changed the DNS servers on Mobile Plan using non-rooted device with such "DNS changer" app ???
It drives me crazy.
Could someone help me please ?

I found the issue (not the solution !)
All right, I found the issue: it is not related to my Phone or the version of Android, but it is due to my Mobile Plan Provider (France Bouygues Telecom. B&You to be more accurate)
I tried "Switch DNS" on a Galaxy S6 (stock Rom) using Orange F (Sosh to be more accurate) and it works (I can change the DNS servers using this app while using the data plan).
So I tried the same app on my Oneplus 6 (Stock OxygenOS 9.0.3) using Sim 2 (Orange Pro) and it works as well.
I understand now why nobody complains about this kind of app. It is working ... for some people
For example Blokada says "it doesn't require root, supports both wifi and mobile networks". It just depends which mobile network !
Hope this helps.
That being said, It does not solve my issue: protecting my children from inappropriate content when I can't be behind them.
I activated the basic parental control on my provider data plan, and it is... well basic. 4chan is blocked but much worst sites are accessible...
I may check the Premium Parental Control, but it seems to only add extra useless features, but not to improve quality of filtering.

Using a Proxy Connection

Hello.
I have a HTC Touch (Elfin) and have recently gave up my option for 10MB Mobile Internet for a Vodafon Live option with 500MB included.
I realised then that the Vodafone Live connection implies using a http/wap proxy wich will only allow internet acces for the web browser (Internet Explorer as well as Opera or Opera Mini work fine) but not for other applications like Instant Messenger Clients, Games or other similar.
I would like to know first of all if there is a way of tricking that proxy connection so I can be able to use other applications with online functionality.
Secondly, if that is not possible (as I suspect) I would like to ask if there are other applications (besides internet browsers) that could youse a http connection for their purpose. Most important would be an Instant Messaging one with Yahoo protocol support.
Thank you for your help.
edit:
In case it matters, this aplies to Vodafone Romania.
For Vodafine Live, the apn is live.vodafone.com (user live, pass vodafone) and the proxy are only defined for http (with 8080 port) and wap (with 9201 port). Secure wap and socks proxy are undefined so probably cannot be used/
Same problem here. Help would be very apreciated to make aplications like outlook , messenger or VNC client to work with http proxy conection.
@glumetzu : incearca shmessenger , e facut de romani si merge pe Java
i have same issue, but there is a workaround kinda...
i came back to romania now to visit family and i got a sim card, number and prepaid data service with vodafone.
my apn is live.pre.vodafone.com, but uses the same user/pass and proxy settings and suggested above.
i noticed that once i connected with microsoft rdp, it wouldnt work. nor would my internet video security cameras from home, which all use different ports.
now here is the strange bit. using another apn without a proxy worked fine on the phone itself. i forget which one it was, and will not test now to find out. it was either live.vodafone.ro or live.vodafome.com but without using the proxy settings. it worked for me no problem. the problem was once i connected to the laptop to use the usb internet sharing. i took the money from the voice phone balance and after a few hours i was disconnected. both data and calls couldnt be made since the balance was -1.19 euro lol
anyways, point is there is an apn settings that seems to work on the phone only without limits in regards to ports or proxies. this worked fine without killing my account balance. it was only once i connected with the laptop that it killed it.
i'm currently researching on how the network gateways are able to detect this.
however using the proxy server with the apn live.pre.vodafone.com i am able to use my full 250mb package from the laptop without affecting the voice package account balance, not sure how or why this works but i have confirmed this in real-time while at a vodafone store in cluj. the sales lady had access to monitor voice and data usage for my account and we tested using the apn and proxy with the laptop. it didnt affect the voice plan money.
so for a quick answer, you can use a laptop and tether the connection. but be careful and double check ur balance after u download a test file using the laptop, just to make sure it wont kill ur account balance.
also, it works now. but for how long? more research is needed and maybe i need to play around with programs like ztunnel or an http proxy app that can tunnel ALL active connections from port to port and vpn through my home network. that would make it more secure and less likely to be picked up by the isp since they would only see port 80 activity going to one place all the time....

DNS Problem....

Guys, I'm very new to android since I got legend yesterday and I couldn't find a way to modify dns settings. Since, with shame, in my country, some websites are restricted due to taxing problems, (etc, youtube ) and I should modify my dns settings. I couldn't find and I'm slightly losing my temper...
There're some solutions on net but i really couldn't understand what they are talking about. I need an explaination as "android for dummies". Any help appreciated.
settings>setup>wireless&network>wifi-settings
push the bottom "menu" and choice "advanced"
here you can setup ip and dns

T-Mobile Z1s VPN connection issues?

I don't know how many users here are on t-mobile with the Z1s and using the VPNs from your phone, but this is a necessity for me. After finally getting around to it I found out real quick that it didn't work, and recently found a post on their support forum confirming this as well as a workaround for it.
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/60804
The above is specific to T-Mobile, but not to the Z1s, so I wanted to go ahead and add my experience, which is specific to the Z1s:
For some reason I was unable to edit the APN settings. I called T-Mobile support and they told me they can't help with VPN issues because it is the IT department of my companies problem (that would be me... and yes i know the vpn works). They told me if i wanted to access the APN settings i needed to unlock the phone? But I'm impatient so here is what I did for the Z1s specifically I just created a new APN with the same settings, and basically all you need to do is chang the protocol from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 :good:
And now VPN works!
P.S. If this should be in a more general sub-forum please let me know/feel free to move it. :good:
I use private internet access VPN and their apps works fine for me. Did not need to modify anything. Just entered username/pw and connect. Have not tried the phone using a corporate work VPN though.

The problem seems to be if your endpoint is using IPv4, since the TMO network seems to be on IPv6 (though it may depend on the area). Also, this is using IKEv1 IPSEC VPNs through built-in android VPN settings. I also tried NCP's VPN client (3rd party app).
I think tmo should set their default profile to IPv4/IPv6.
I noticed sometimes I don't have data connection even though at full bars.
After I create a new profile with IPv4/IPv6, I don't have this problem any more.

There is a really good website that a large company built that should help you find some information. Link is below. When you open the website, there is a text box with a couple buttons under it. Type "How does changing DNS servers improve internet speed" and you should find your answer.
http://go.ogle.org/
Thanks.
This app try to change automaticlly your dns settings, so the resolution of domain names become fast and you can navigate in the internet rapidly, but this technique doesn't improve the page content loading.
How ever it improves security & privacy a lot. E.g. use NortonDNS (for malware & phishing protection) as well as your phone/internet provider will not recieve the info of which websites you are browsing.
Hi, i've bought " Override dns" from play store for my Android box 4.4. but when the box is in standby or sleep mode for all night the IP reverted in its original value even if the message in the upper left corner said that all is ok
i dont feel its working in android 7.0 & up

Google Pay on Turkish Galaxy Watch 5

Hi all!
I've recently purchased my first smartwatch, a Galaxy Watch 5 44mm, while I've been in Turkey. I am native to the UK though so I've thought about changing the firmware to a UK version.
I have everything set up in English, downloaded the modded APKs for Samsung Health Monitor etc, however there's one thing bugging me.
Google pay/wallet doesn't want to work, I've tried changing the CSC code through the phone dialler app but annoyingly it doesn't work. Looks like Samsung have patched that method. I have the app installed and have my cards on there but it disappears every 3 hours or so, then I have to re-enable through the play store. I have my phone connected to a UK Nord VPN server so this helps with getting the app visible at least.
I'm not too interested in the permanent proxy method, since I already use a VPN server and it still disappears with that I can only assume that it's the same if I went the P.P. route.
Just wondering if there's any permanent fixes or workarounds that can get the app to stay? Or even if there's a method to flash the firmware to a UK version that'd be helpful too, but I have plenty of things installed already so installing another firmware is a last resort for me.
If it helps, the software version is: R910XXU1AWD6/SM-R910NZBATUR
Hello Mezdux,
Have you tried Permanent Proxy for WearOS, This creates a connection with a proxy network which allows Google Pay and Samsung Pay, I hope this Helps.
Permanent Proxy uses an old framework left from an old version of Android

Flash the "wear-release.apk" to your watch using adb, and the the other apk to your phone.
Hope this helps,

I already use NordVPN on my phone (which the watch goes through for wifi connection) and I've had it up and running like that. I've made a purchase so it doesn't disappear anymore and works without issues. Permanent Proxy is not the solution for everything when you're already running a constant VPN connection, which permanent proxy does anyway.
That's why I wish people read the post properly first.
If anybody can tell me a difference in practice, perhaps I will consider. However, it seems like a different method of doing the same thing. Google Pay now works without issues.
I see
