Regarding Volte - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I have a carrier unlocked H918 TMobile model.
My issue is that it does not get Volte eventhough it is enabled in settings.
I am open to rooting and installing a custom rom also if it resolves the issue. Please help me out.

A thread on a similar issue is already open in this forum
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/volte-option-gone-upgrade-to-android-8-t3884273
A fix for retaining the VoLTE that vanished after upgrading to Oreo via OTA for the Indian version users seem afar let alone for an imported/unlocked device.
Maybe a few more details might be handy for someone to help you out, like, if you've still got an active data connection, if there was a change in the phone that supposedly caused this, viz. an OS upgrade, etc like other users experienced.
No VoLTE on Jio equals no phone functionality, unless you've got their ad-packed Jio4G app for calls and messages.

4G Data connection works. I actually got it on eBay and at the time of purchase the listing was "Jio supported" but I could never check it then. I ported to Jio network recently(after Oreo update) and then only found out that no Volte is there. There is a toggle for Volte in settings but it is of no use.

I'm pasting the content that was copied from reddit on a similar issue
"You can download the QuickShortcutMaker app from the Play Store.
In the QSM app, search for 'Advanced Calling'. Press the down arrow next to 'Settings' in the list. Mine had 2 options. The first is 'AdvancedCalling' and other is 'AdvancedCallingSwitch'.
Choose one, and click 'Try it'."
The above italicised text is by the reddit OP.
This method worked for me. I didn't have the VoLTE toggle option though. You may want to give this a go.

The e-bay imports have almost always been a foxy business. I can't find it much different than OLX or Quikr. You can't really trust the biz unlike Flipkart/Amazon. Plus, US & other international variants may not fully agree with Indian standards.
Use the Jio SIM in slot 1.
Follow instructions from the previous post.

I exchanged that set for a Redmi Note 5 Pro last week since I had no other option. Will never buy an LG device again.

Their customer service was worst. They refused to even take a look at the device citing the reason that it's an unlocked model (H918) and not the official Indian model(H990DS).

LG did it the LG way and doomed a fantastic device. It was certain to fail from the start itself for being an LG. Then the screen retention came up making the process quicker. Sad to see how the first device to run Nougat out of box had to be stuck on Nougat for almost 2 years. They could only come up with Oreo for a flagship device at the time when even budget segment devices were starting to receive Pie.
Also heard a news that LG will bring Pie to V20 after all though only after Q3 2019 when others will be waiting for Android Q.
I strongly believe they will repeat that G4 Nougat fiasco with only a few regions getting an unoptimized build of Pie.
If any other manufacturer could build on the V Series model. The concept, design everything is brilliant but it just had that LG logo in the front.

Happy to help
I can't say this could be completely blamed on LG with issues of international variants of devices. Imported models could face compatibility issues. Even my issue might have arisen due to some setting i might have tweaked before the update. And, this is the one phone that i didn't try rooting.
What i felt wasn't initially welcoming was that they have always the one answer to any of your issue- visit the service centre. But then, i couldn't ask for more because they dont need to assist or educate me regardless of how technically savvy i am. Still, they suggested me to change the APN settings, which didn't work.

New Update August 10th - Stagefright Patch

http://www.androidcentral.com/alcatel-onetouch-idol-3-get-stagefright-fix-beginning-august-10
Seems the Idol 3 is receiving the Stagefright patch! I'm surprised Alcatel is actually keeping up with this phone and releasing needed updates. Now if only we could get Android 5.1 or even Android M.
For those who have rooted, I'm sure you will have to un-root in order to get this via OTA or follow famewolf's thread here.
Cool 5.1.1 would be nice as well

There are 3 different 6045i firmwares in the stock image thread. You could have backed up one at a time till you got one that worked with google voice and didn't have other issues.
But wouldn't that negate the positive results of the most recent update (improved DTTW, etc.)?

Depends on your priorities...I for one have no problem using hangout dialer for the calls I want to make over data which still works fine.
if they could fix the lags too
i was wondering, if we can't get ota update is it still possible to use the file update while being rooted?
hope this don't cause lags.. had the opposite result the last time I've updated..it was a mess
Well, I also use Hangouts Dialer and agree it's not a huge imposition. Still, no other handset I've ever used has had this bug, and I'd like the option of using the native dialer with GV. Regards from New Orleans...A.

Off topic. But how do you like or compare to the blu life one 2015?
I like the Blu Life One LTE quite a bit. Bought it for $99 off Amazon during a pre-order promotion, and have been using out to compare various carriers alongside my Idol 3. Considering that it has only 1 gig of RAM, it's remarkably smooth. Very bright 720p display, good battery life. A paltry 8g of onboard storage, but I'm an app minimalist, and it does take an optional SD card. Dual SIM capability which has come in handy, though you must choose between SD card or SIM 2.
The Idol 3 is considerably more powerful (600-class Snapdragon versus 400; 2 gigs of RAM, bigger, full HD display, etc.). Covers more LTE bands, including Band 12, which is important for T-Mobile users like myself. Substantially better speakers.
I'm somewhat of a phone hobbyist, and have been playing with a number of inexpensive handsets lately (these two and a Lumia 640 -- amazing phone for $100 or less). I've gained new respect for this class of handset. See little or no need to pay flagship prices. But I don't game, so don't tax a CPU as some other users might.
I've been using an HTC One M7 on Verizon, but an going to move to T-Mobile. Coverage is solid here in New Orleans, and for my family (four of us) it's vastly less expensive, with vastly more data.

Hi All --
Wanted to let you guys know a new software update for IDOL 3 users will be released on or around August 10. This update will initially be available to IDOL 3 customers in the U.S. and will address fixes for Google Voice and SMS time stamp issues experienced by some users, as well as a Google security patch for the Stagefright vulnerability. For IDOL 3 customers in Canada, we are working with our carrier partners and hope to have an availability update for this very shortly.

I plan to give it a try and if it works I'll TRY to capture the 6045i update url as I did the previous updates..(I use a transparent squid proxy that all devices in my house go through to get to the internet. It allows me to intercept the url)..if I can get the update.zip downloaded I will make it available and perhaps some users will be able to sideload the update with less hassle.

That would be awesome. I'm in Canada and don't want to have to wait for my carrier to 'Ok' an update for a major security issue like this.
If that could be done for 6045k since I saw one user on this forum from Portugal with K model and 01003 update..
Meaning the update is pushed different from region to region..

So if I unroot to get this update, am I even going to be able to reroot?
I was really hoping I wouldn't have to mess around with anything more on this phone until CM is out for it.

Pretty sure you will still be able to re-root.
I can confirm that using the Full Unroot method via SuperSU works on this phone. I just ran it out of curiosity and followed the steps and SuperSU is gone from the app drawer and I am able to check for updates. See screenshots:

this update is 2 steps forward and one step back. Some good features like visitor mode have been removed. It was an amazing feature if you don't want other people to see your sensitive apps or contacts. Call recording has become problematic. Previously, I could record easily using boldbeast call recorder. Now, no more. Settings are much more difficult to find. On the positive side, battery backup has jumped tremendously. Plugged out at 9.40 am today. My phone is still at 75 percent at 6.30 pm with moderate use. There is no doze mode setting but I think they have incorporated some features as I can see that phone goes into sleep when screen is off much more frequently. Also, the awesome themes that lollipop had are no more there. Not even the live wallpapers. Mixed feelings about the update overall. Given an option I would have stuck to lollipop. Almost 8 months late and it still appears as if Huawei just wanted to finish the job and get rid of it.

The hidden menu APK. it changes a setting from Operational mode to "Lab operation" and it enables use of GSM. So far it works with the G5, V20, and a few low end Boost mobile/Sprint prepaid LG devices.

Strange. Others are reporting working results recently guess they've never updated. Latest update on the G5 is working perfectly fine though at the moment. Sucks they have to patch the simple ways lol.

The G5 and the V20 are two different beasts as far as the software correlation..
The G5 was shipped with 6.0, the V20 shipped with 7.0, the menu options were altered to prevent unlocking with the V20 via this method..
Just as it's removed in the G6 as well.

Yeah the G5 both 6.0 and 7.0 working correctly at the moment. Hopefully it doesn't get patched. But I've never recommended using Sprint phone outside of Sprint anyway. I've never had a stable signal in fringe areas oddly.
But outside the US Sprint devices are sold on a large scale LG devices at least.
Also with 7.0 something that may assist others, with that hiddenmenu apk, you can go to the svc menu -> port check test -> enable, then set the usb connection mode to file transfer / Always and obtain your SPC/MSL using any qualcomm LG method reader.
The apk still has many uses!
It won't ever get patched in the G5, they can't as the network operation mode is a requirement since it was built in to the framework.

I've been trying to get my msl from sprint for a few days now as im litterally having poor data issues where i know i have good lte. So if i do this do i just download an apk to read the msl or an exe program for windows. My main goal is to go into ##3282# menu under edit (msl) required. under lte and adjust my band priority from 25 to 3 and 26 to 2 and 41 to 1. So in theory this should work right.

Where's our Nougat update ZTE??

Update 6/21/2017: OTA update to Android 7.1.1 is out, and I received the OTA and installed it around 10 pm CST. Working great so far!! I like to think that my writing this post here on XDA finally caught the attention of ZTE, so they decided to get the update out ASAP lol. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Getting a Nougat update for the Axon 7 mini seems to be too much of a challenge for ZTE. As most of you know, ZTE has been running a closed Beta test of Android Nougat for our device. Three months is a pretty long Beta test, and it seems to me that ZTE may be experiencing some problems. I am not part of the Beta, I was in the hospital and didn't find out about it until sign ups were over. Is there anyone who's running the Beta right now that could give us an update? Feel free to PM me, and I can pass any updated info along to those of us not in the Beta, as I don't want anyone who does pass the info along to get in trouble for violating an NDA. Thanks!

Thanks for the info, hopefully the update will be here soon!
I have received information about the beta via a couple of PM's from active beta testers. Looks like they are currently testing 7.1.1 with the June security patch. The software is said to be running good, but has a couple unspecified bugs that need to be corrected. All sources indicate that the update should be releasing very soon, but no confirmed release date yet. I wi6add further information as I receive it.

That's just weird. According to the beta testers, that build was sent to them shortly after the beta began, and still has some software bugs. I would have thought that ZTE would at least have one more update to the firmware prior to launch.
I guess we'll see if ZTE just ignored the bugs to get the update out. Apparently the OTA is supposed to be available, but I'm not seeing it yet (Missouri). Anyone here in the US been able to update yet?

Looks like I may have to reset the phone. ?

So I reset my phone and that didn't fix my problem. I messed around with all the WiFi & WiFi calling settings and cellular data settings with none of them fixing my problem. I then turned on the developers options and for some reason that fixed my cellular from turning on and off.
That fixed my issue if anyone has the same problem.

not exactly. They have 2 options in the Display settings, 1 for Font size with Small, Default, Large, and Largest options, and another for Display size with Small, Default, and Large options. Those screenshots were taken with both set to Small

Okay thanks man
My son's got it this morning finally... Update took a while, probably close to 40 minutes start to finish, including the "Android is upgrading" portion after full boot. That must be an N thing, it rebuild cache on the fly or something. So far so good, no issues or problems yet.
We don't have T-Mobile here, use H2O (an AT&T MVNO) and so far no issues with radios or connection.
TBH, the more I play with this device the more I like it... the UI isn't too bad, one thing that gets me is the modified "Home" menu and you can't easily switch launchers without uninstalling one, but that is for another thread if I ever decide to pursue it.

Actually, it's in the Developer Settings. I saw it under "smallest width," if I'm not mistaken.

So, after I installed the update, I had connection problems. Everything had trouble using data. I reset and it's fine. And I must say, I'm impressed. It feels smoother and faster than before. I'm happy they finally released it.

I checked for an update tonight after reading this article and am now downloading what I presume is 7.1.1.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e T725N LTE root/custom ROMs current state?

What is the current state of rooting and custom ROMs for the LTE variant (full code of model sold in my home country: SM-T725NZKADBT)?
I saw some threads like https://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-s5e/help/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-s5e-sm-t725-t3926742 but they are old (but Samsung is releasing updates regularly) or closed or mix it up with the non-LTE device.
When will people learn that you don't buy an LTE late model tablet if you want to root and install custom ROMs. If I have seen this question once "Will this ROM work on my LTE tablet?", I've seen it a hundred times. And the answer is ALWAYS NO. I would think that 99% of the people who buy a tablet in the price range of the T720, also have a smartphone. So why do you need LTE in the tablet? Personally, before buying ANY tablet, I check the XDA forums to see what kind of custom ROMs are available.

Some people want or need the LTE functionality. I use a tablet for surfing and chatting while commuting (4 hours per work day, in winter sometimes even longer). The trains and busses in my region have no Wifi. Why not getting a smartphone? I'm visually impaired (glasses don't help for my issue) and everthing below 10" is unusuable for me. Additionally, I have some motorical problems and have issues hitting keys on a small virtual keyboard on a smartphone.
PS: I don't have bought it already. I ask before buying
Is there any reason why root or custom ROMs for the LTE variants are so rare?

They are rare because the devs don't own them. Many devs have attempted to create ROMs for the LTE versions of their wifi only tablets and have given up the idea because they have no way of trouble shooting problems.
As to your "commute", there is a simple solution. Buy a "hotspot" device. Even a cheap smartphone can be used. You don't have to be able to "see" it because it only requires being setup once. Then a wifi only tablet can connect through it when there is no other wifi available.

Thanks for this tip, but my preference is just having to take care of and charge one device.

Yes, rooting would be me primary wish, too. Basically because of Titanium Backup and kernel tweaking.

To each his own. But for the small inconvience of having to charge two devices, you are ostracizing yourself to the one percent and have to abide by the results. I'm just the oppisite. I had to have Amazon clear out my Kindle Unlimited device list but it had me down for having close to 200. Everytime I'd install a new Android version on one of my devices, Unlimited would log it as a new device.

Exactly. This is complaining why the dev community is not supporting a very very small percentage of he population who have no phone and only a tablet. The simple answer is as you said, use your phone as a hotspot. If you don't have a phone that's on you SMH

Unfortunately,it does not work. I built it successfully, and flush it to T725, but the device cannot boot successfully, it's stuck on the startup page “The tablet is not running Samsung's official software....................."
I have no idea now.

Hi guy, thanks Luk1337 for his help, i have built a rom for samsung t725 successfully, it bases on t720 and lineage-17.1 , I have modified the wifi model (source extracted from samsung official rom) and finally it works on my t725c . I only tested the wifi connection and have not tested the lte model because i have no idle sim card to test.
So if you need it ,you can build it by yourself ,with some special configurations. Or I can share you the rom I built yesterday.
I suggest sharing it for the public as I don't have time nowadays for tests and backups.
But a huge thx for the efforts

in telegram messenger you can send files up to 1.3Gig. You can open a channel there
Luk1337 should upload it to hes website like other rom he have there. I have the SM-T725 and i would like to use your lineage os on it. Luk1337 is going to update it regulary like the SM-T720 rom he have.

yes ,the wifi works fine. In some countries, you may need to configure captive-portal, to avoid the wifi connection error prompts.

if you connect to a wifi ,google will try to connect to a websit to verify the quality of it. and if you get a prompt "Connected, no internet", it means that you need to config the captive-portal, use the command below:
Code:
adb shell settings put global captive_portal_https_url https://connect.rom.miui.com/generate_204
Note: https://connect.rom.miui.com/generate_204 is working for China area, you should replace it to your own country's server url.
