"Look" of the device (aesthetics) - Samsung Galaxy S10 Real Life Review

Is the Samsung Galaxy S10 as good-looking as you are (despite your receding hairline, adult-onset acne, and massive weight gain)? Rate this thread to express whether you think the Samsung Galaxy S10 is attractive. A higher rating indicates that you would even go as far to say that the Samsung Galaxy S10 is a beautiful phone.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

All S10 series will have all new hole punch display to increase screen to body ratio, And the Inhand feel of S10 is similar to S9 because it has same sandwich glass design.

Not bad
The design is not bad compared to what we have seen from these companies throughout last year. But the leaked colours are nothing to write home about. Thank goodness they got rid of that purple colour on the S9, although, I love the Cinnabar Red colour render, if only it will come in that colour, then maybe.

I actually liked the purple that is what I have now on the S10 plus but I agree no good colors. Guess I'll do green and white would be 2nd choice. My husband will probably just do black heck we keep cases on our phones anyway.

Green isn't launching in the US. I wanted that color too.

I know so now I can't decide. My husband wants white and I am thinking maybe blue not sure if I like the pink looks kind of orangy to me but I do like the white too. I need to deicde and hurry and figure out If I should trust Samsung with our trade ins to get the full amount. I've been reading how they've been screwing people over and not giving the full trade in amount and telling people phone messed up when it's not. I don't know I need to call Best Buy tomorrow and see what their exact 550 deal is if I can trade our phones get 550 each and then buy 2 unlocked 10 plus straight out with no 2 year lease like it says for the 650 trade in then I'll be good. I kind of would rather trade in at Best Buy and not have to worry about mailing old phones to Samsung but Samsung guarantees it on the 8th not sure if Best Buy will sometimes they get behind.

Woo !. I think thats cool !

You've echoed some of my concerns. I know my S9 is in perfect shape, but I'm comcerned about what Samsung is going to decide on my $550.

Looked at them in person at best buy. I really like the look. Punch hole Camera did not bother me at all, compared to the ugly notch on the pixel and iphone its a non issue. Preordered it.

my only conern is the in screen fingerprint. i have a oneplus 5t and i use my finger print alot for gestures which you can do using a inscreen finerprint

I dislike this freaking front camera cutout, why is it so hard to put it on three very corner and make it very small hole !!
Also, why the hell do we need double front camera !!
I'm barely need even one !!
galaxy s10 is way to small, not even under consideration.
however, it's still better than oneplus6 trash.
also, the best solution is to put a very small screen on the back for selfie trash and video calls.
it's cheaper, better, and the most powerful cameras already there !!

I couldn't disagree with you more. The hole for the camera has ALWAYS BEEN THERE! Every phone that has a camera loses the space where the camera lense is. So allowing almost the entire front of the phone to be screen, with ONLY a cutout for the camera(s) is absolutely the best case scenario. And having two cameras on the front is BETTER!!! Do you think when Samsung decides to make a phone, that they are thinking, hey I wonder if x111 will like this or not? They have to do what's best for millions of people around the world. And for the majority of people around the world, this cutout is perfect! Some of you guys can pick the most idiotic things to be upset about. Getting the MOST screen possible on a phone is a GOOD thing! But some of you just want to ***** about something. You aren't happy, unless you are UNHAPPY!!!
Btw, your solution of putting a screen on the rear is NOT cheaper, NOT better and NOT a solution to anything. It's a ridiculous idea. Love how a non-engineer thinks they know better than some of the top engineers on the planet...

Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is a hundred times better than an optical fingerprint sensor. So why would that be a concern?

No gestures

I took pictures of the one yesterday at Best Buy I actually forgot to really look at the whole punch LOL! I was putting on different wallpaper backgrounds and taking pictures. Long story I hope I haven't told told this already I have been replying to other places but my husband will get his prism white thru Samsung but not it says 3/8 not 3/15/ I cancelled and re-ordered cause I ordered the wrong case and then our credit card fraud came on order was going to be declined and then I found out only one trade in per household at a time. We only traded in to them once our S7 Edges. Usually the kiosk in the mall gives me good prices but anyway I found out Best Buy will take back unlocked and me unlocked outright so I went there yesterday and pre-ordered. Samsung I had did white and when I went to re-order they were out of white and then I changed my mind at Best Buy and decided to try the pink it's different They only had a black one on display. I do like how the white and blue have like a metallic back but I'll always have a case on it.
I'm excited can't wait to get it and now I don't have to Deal with Samsung just my husband and hopefully his goes well. Plus back on Black Friday they had a promotion and I got 200 cash back from Samsung Pay for buying these cameras at Best Buy so to be safe I used that visa gift card at Best Buy yesterday to buy a Best Buy gift card and it worked. So technically now I have 750 - 999 and only have to pay the difference which is great. I will have 2 cases and get a protector and be done.

Instantly fell for prism white, which looks awesome when subjected to certain lighting conditions. The S10e they loaned isn't too shabby either, digging this blue color. Too bad Sammy doesn't offer red though.

It looks Sleek, Stunning, Super Cool... Cheers ?

You have NO IDEA what you are talking about. That is a pos phone. Look at the stats!!!! The hardware is crap, the software is crap and it's all STOLEN technology, which the Chinese ALWAYS DO, and thus it will NOT work nearly as well as the "real" technology. That phone is ugly, and it can't do even half the things the S10's can do. So go buy that crap phone, and stop *****ing about the Samsungs...

If your phones are paid for you can keep them. I have an s7 edge in mint condition and will sell myself. I dont trust the trade in either

Any Regrets?

Has anyone bought the 6P and then asked themselves "why on earth did I spend the money, the other one was equally as good as this one".
I'm torn because from a standpoint of specs I just don't see a bunch of difference and the 6 is a great phone. SO that's the question, if anyone regrets it other than the fact it's a new phone, i would love to hear your take. :silly:
Thanks
6 vs 6P, maybe there's an argument there. I came from the N5.. No contest.
Sent from a 128th Legion Stormtrooper 6P
Came from the ZenFone 2....no regrets either.
Came from the S5 and this phone seems like an answered prayer.

I came from a Note 5 and I have no regrets. Much more clean and smooth.

Yes I have had this internal discussion. I had the OG LG G2 and it is perfect in every way for me at least. I do really like the larger screen but I will miss the G2.
The thing with specs are they are just that....specs... the lg g2 still feels fast and has no real lag and its old as F*******
Coming from the Nexus 6, I can say there was enough there to make me want the 6P. Sensor hub+ doze, battery, processor, finger print scanner, better display, not so wide frame, camera, it doesn't rock around on the table when you try to use it, 128GB, etc... I can say it is a solid upgrade in just about every way.
It's still brand spanking new, and I still haven't gotten over that kid in a candy store feel of getting a new device. Right now I would say I am extremely pleased and not regretting the purchase at all. Time will tell if I develop any complaints.
Edit: I would say the slightly smaller screen was the only thing I immediately noticed was different while using it, but it was not really a downgrade. 5.7 vs 5.9 inches isn't a huge change in real estate, but it still is a change. On the bright side, at least the 6P fits in my car's cupholder!
My only concern is the size. Coming from m8; this phone is way took big but I really like the specs of it. Trying to get used to the size.
Not one bit. I love this phone. Plus, mine seems to be bug or defect free. Yay!
Former Z3 owner.
I dont use my N6 for anything anymore..
This phone is sooooo much batter
Fingerprint scanner
Not as wide
Awesome dual front speakers
Better camera
Way better gaming performance
Better screen
0 regrets. Love doze, the screen, the speakers, the freedom to do whatever I like with the software. I am a bit hesitant about the camera but hopefully they push some software improvements later.
Slightly disappointred with my display. Whites are dirty / yellowish when looking straight at it. Look much better when viewing from an angle. Suffering a bit of color changing when i move the handset about.
Last phones was a Nexus 5, and a couple of months with a cheapy UMI Iron. Both of which had better whites. Hoping this is fixable.
Too big , mine is going back. My LG g3 had nearly the same size display in a much smaller package.

I know that you shouldn't have to for the price point of this phone, but there is already a kernel to adjust the screen temps and there will undoubtedly be more. LCD screens always have cooler, crisper light colors that comparatively seem almost dingey on AMOLEDs. But hey, you have a Nexus, so you can adjust everything you need to on a software level
None.

Nope 'no ragrets' (if anyone gets that reference) i came from a 64gb Nexus 6 which cost me $700+ tax so for $650+ tax the 128gb 6P was a steal. I love this phone and the camera is a beast. I haven't looked back and even sold my old Nexus 6 because i like this phone so much.

Eww LCD display are a thing of the past i prefer AMOLED screens because you get a true black and they just look better. If i could have an OLED or AMOLED TV and not pay $$$$$$$$ i gladly would buy one. I have a really nice LG monitor but the backlight annoys me and I wish it was an AMOLED especially after paying $1k for it. Everyone has their preference and mine is and always will be an OLED or AMOLED

I'm actually an AMOLED fan myself :highfive: it took me a while to get used to the difference in whites coming from an HTC M8 to the droid turbo (my 6p won't be in hand until tomorrow). But I had an S4 prior to the M8 and I truly appreciate the saturated darks on AMOLEDs. After a week or so, I never even notice the slight hues associated with AMOLED screens but I think some are just more sensitive toniticing the the contrast than others. Hopefully in the next 5 years an AMOLED TV will become a more affordable option

That's how I feel. My first Android phone was the S3 which had an AMOLED screen them I had a Note 3. I moved in to a LCD on my G3 and while i liked the phone the screen at times was horrible in comparison. I've had some other LCD phones and tablets but anything with an AMOLED will win my money in the end. It's sad to see Motorola stray from them because now we are left with Samsung phones, and Nexii for now (for the most part). I'm sure with the recent rumors of apple considering an AMOLED will spark further demand for them which is a good thing. I really enjoy how nice AMOLED/OLED screens look. Let's not forget the battery life that usually follows which is generally better.

I couldn't agree more with you man. That was a really odd move on Moto's part IMO because of their way of delivering notifications...really stupid to move away from the low battery draw of AMOLEDs regarding active notifications. Though, I think Moto is a sinking ship in general these days, but that a-whole-nother discussion. I hope Apple does push for AMOLED so that it becomes more coveted feature, but it takes them a while to get on board with big changes.
Love the phone coming from a Verizon note 3. Two comments. One, the battery life isn't that great compared to the note. Samsung actually did a great job there imo. But I can still get two days out of the phone with light to moderate usage so all good. Two, for whatever reason apps take a long time to install after the download is finished. Everything else is fast on the phone.

Planning to buy S7 edge need suggestions!!!

hi friends
i am girish here
I am planning to buy this device can any one please suggest me its pro's and con's?
Also need some sample pictures from cameras to decide as my wife want best camera
hope some one will surely guide me
If you need the best camera, the S7/Edge is the only choice, there is no other phone that can provide this image quality.
Agreed, the image quality is really awesome, sometimes even more realistic than reality ahah
I don't see any con's except for the price
It has the best screen, the best camera, a really awesome battery (see on XDA), a beautiful design (S7 edge), and the water resistance can save you ! Honestly it's THE phone to buy
Consider the dual sim version... Not much more expensive.. I regret not getting it thinking the battery life would be too adversely effected... A colleague of mine bought it after me and we don't notice any major battery life degradation. Regardless, S7 is a solid piece of work..no cons I've noticed after about a month of use.

Best camera on a phone I've ever seen.
Go for it, can't go wrong.
Best Phone I ever had.
Buy a good case if you buy one of these phones. I recommend this one or cases like it that cover parts of the front. My girlfriend's screen shattered the other day from a waste high drop in a Caseology case and I've dropped my phone on pavement more than a dozen times with zero damage.

Hi guys!
Finally after so many years using WM, I decided to make a change( specially that i dropped badly, deadly my 950xl). I fall in love with the s7 edge screen and specs. The only thing I'm afraid...the screen. I read a lot of storries about the screen cracked from nowhere, or so. Is that sensitive piece of glass?!
If you are going to buy Samsung you should wait for the S8, it will have the latest version of Android, that's how slow Samsung are releasing it to the current ones

Ugly phone and the screen doesn't compare IMO. This screen on the S7 Edge is unbelievable. As for cameras, never used the Pixel camera, but in comparisons I've seen online, they are close, but the S7's camera usually comes out the winner in head to head battles. Especially for speed and more options in the camera app itself, which vanilla Android on the Pixel is sadly lacking.

While I have the classic black, yup, the silver one is nice, but my wife has the blue. It is really nice. I would have gotten it myself, but didn't want to have the same colour phone and she got hers first
Ok guys, is not about the color, camera or what so ever. Is about the screen. Is it showing after some use, any black spots or the screen just crack " just by it's self ?" is it that sensitive piece of kit?
I haven't had the S7 Edge for that long, but as mentioned, the screen is amazing. As for issues with it? I haven't read anything online and I did a lot of research before coming from the 6P to this phone. It is built solidly IMO and should have no issues. If others have had a problem, they can post here, but this is a solid phone for sure.

Returning the S8+ & back to Pixel XL, Pros and cons if anybody is interested

Well I'm returning s8 plus. It just can't beat out pixel overall. Pros and cons of s8 plus for anybody interested.
Pros
Screen- is bright and very big
Battery- best battery I've ever used to date
Sdcard- also best phone with sd slot I've used to date, loads 10,000 plus photos in seconds
Camera- excels in low light, regular light it can't touch pixel
Web pages- loading and scrolling is probably fastest I've ever seen on mobile device
Samsung pay- still love Samsung pay over Android pay
No bezels- looks amazing and sleek
Samsung ui- I've always loved it and I still like it. Has countless options that are unreal but still not as fast as pure Android but that's to be expected
Edge screen- probably my favorite feature. Absolutely love night clock
Cons
Screen- is weird ratio and colors look over saturated except on basic mode then everything else looks washed out. Some apps don't like no bezels. Keyboard is weird and reply tabs in notification bar are very tiny and odd
Camera- normal light pixel has it beat, too saturated and unrealistic
Fingerprint sensor location- yes you get used to it but back on pixel and it is still way easier
Screen protector/case- good luck getting a glass screen protector to stick and a case to match without intruding on each other
No bezels- I found it hard to reach to bottom of phone for home button or anything on nav bar really
Bixby/buttons- bixby needs no statement it is just rubbish (and bixby button) and the other buttons are spread out. I like how pixel has volume and power on same side and textured power button

Looks like your Pros outweigh your Cons, although I do agree with your statement on the fingerprint scanner.
[RANT]Whatever possessed Samsung to place it where it is, is beyond me, for me the placement has rendered it pretty much well useless (Yes, in time you will get used to it; I could also get used to driving my car from the back seat, but bad design is bad design). Thankfully there are other options to secure your phone (facial recognition is by far my favourite and quickest; Even if it isn't as secure...)
However, I have always detested Touchwiz, even with the constant improvements it doesn't compare to some of the top launchers out there.[/RANT]
Enjoy your Pixel XL

They might but things like the over saturated screen and weird ratio are very big deals to me so therefore they outweigh all the good lol
Yes the fingerprint is weird. I honestly think they quit R&Ding the device and just threw on back to beat iphone out and get some sales. Hopefully they take their time with the Note 8 and it is perfection. I would rather have my note 7 back over the s8 plus at this point.
Touchwiz has gotten better but yes it could still use some more features. But hey they all could always use more feautres!

Fair call on the oversaturation, I think I have just gotten used to it (almost all of my devices are Samsung, I'm constantly fiddling with our TV picture settings ). Although I'd probably suggest getting used to the new aspect ratio, I imagine it will make an appearance on the Note 8 and become the norm, considering Samsung now has a penchant for using large phones with one hand.
Default screen mode is Adaptive - this over saturates the screen colours. Use Amoled Photo. This is calibrated to Adobe RGB standard.
No bezel - this is a plus for me, and most people. This is the way smartphones are going. Less bezel = better phone. More for aesthetics than anything.
Screen protector/case - I never use them. They ruin the look and feel of the phone.
Camera - still the best on the market in my opinion. Beats anything else out there.

Yeah I don't like the fake look though. If I take a photo I want it to be realistic. I took some photos and then look at photo and object and was like man it looks way off. The note 8 better have a normal screen ratio!

I can't stand the over saturation. Looks bad unless you drop to basic. Pixel camera is best imo ?

I also went back to my trusty Pixel XL. It is the first time I have ever voluntarily gone back to a device. The Pixel's performance can't be even distantly touched by the S8+. The optimization is worth its weight in gold alone. The S8+ is a beautiful and all around more polished piece of hardware that is severely hampered by what might be a disparity in GPU requirements v. Infinity display requirements and software that simply makes horrid use of the 2017 spec bump underlying it. I think Samsung went a bit too ambitious this time and left a few too many rough edges.

I read that the only reason they threw the sensor in the back was because they ran out of time. They wanted it in the screen but didn't have enough time time for production.

HDR screen certification.

Wireless charging and Fast Wireless Charging

Always On Display.
Iris scanner security.

I also read somewhere that the above sensor placement may hold the CrApple iSh#t 8 from being delivered as per their normal schedule, if it is true at least CrApple have the sense to ensure deadlines don't affect the final product. (please excuse my uncharacteristic optimism regarding CrApple products)
For the fanboys/fence sitters - Yes Apple has it's applications, yes some people prefer simple... this is an Android forum. As I have said in the past iPhones are for people that want a smartphone but aren't smart enough to use them. ~ from an open platform fanboy.

I too forgot this useless piece of redundant garbage (sort of points out how irrelevant Bixby is in a world of Google Now), although the button remapped to be a "back" button is handy.
Hopefully Samsung will pull their collective heads out of each other's butts and allow the button to be remapped to whatever the consumer wishes without a 3rd party app, instead of the usual "this is how you will use the device you payed for and rightfully own" attitude of large corporations.

They wanted it to be on the same spot as the home button under the screen, but Synaptics couldn't get it working good enough in time.
I'm also going to return mine. I'm kind of disappointed that the audio quality is subpar IMHO. Comparing it with my Nexus 6P, the sound level is lower than the 6P and honestly the 6P sounds more crisp. If I'm paying close to a grand for a device- S8+ with paid bundle, I would wish the manufacturer doesn't skimp on features like Samsung did with this phone. The mono speaker audio and then the issue with the tint... I tried adjusting in settings but there's still a slight red hue which is annoying to say the least. The fingerprint scanner... But I can get used to that. The Bixby button being disabled to use with other applications. It's just too many compromises for a device like this. Thinking I'll wait for the Note 8 or the next Pixel. Damn, I had such high hopes and really wanted to like this phone, but I can't justify spending $950 on something I'm not fully satisfied with.

Well pointed out. One of the major gripes I think is the sound quality. I have tested a bunch of different HiFi headphones on my S8+ but it's nowhere close to the previous Mate 9 audio quality: to low the volume, mushy details in medium tonality, overall "not there". I am not sure where Pixel stands from the sound quality perspective but I would be eager to test it beforehand.

First Impressions about HTC U11

Hello, everyone!
I watched few reviews about the phone...And really sorry to say it but I'm not much impressed, but I definitely will upgrade to from htc one m8. Big htc fan here . I like the style, screen, colours ..Can't really say about the camera probably will be good. The new sound should be awesome + the headphones... But when come to the software..... For one year they didn't touch the sense? Really ? Even TouchWiz is changing, can't understand why htc decided to stay at sense 8, or like is now just "HTC Sense UI" . In the whole review, I generally see - The colours, squeeze (I think they too much depending on this new feature which we still didn't know how it will work after month or two of using it), How google OK works that was fun tho , wasn't working the first few times and the 3d sound...And exactly how they said - simple. And I wasn't disappointed like this from quite long time .I expected something more "brilliant". They just made a review on software app - the edge stuff, htc companion and OK Google They even didn't mention htc sense, which didn't move much from 2015. Isn't this little bit pathetic to you? I want to hear your thoughts on that. Did you expect more, like me? Anyway, I'm still considering buying it when the sales start in my region.
Well having been able to hold it in my hands and play with it for a few hours I can say the following:
First of I really like the Edge Sense feature as it worked really well on my review unit. In combination with a deeply integrated Goggle Assistant and Amazon Alexa it will be a well done upgrade if new ways of using your phone. Sense has made a large step in the last year and continues in debloating with regard to reducing HTC Apps that are redundant to Google Apps, as well as tweaks regarding performance done under the hood, and last but not least integration of the above mentioned Edge Sense.
Camera is top notch, achieving highest DxOMark - 90 Points - rating of a Smartphone thus far.
Audio has come one step further as well. Only thing to name here, as it will already suffice, is the implementation of Active Noise Cancellation with the In-Ear Headphones coming in the box, and USB-C-to-3.5mm-adapter that brings an integrated Amplifier as well an an 24bit DAC.
The display, though some might dislike the design of the front, has really deep blacks and good colours - especially if compared to an AMOLED.
Ah and IP67 of course is a great step forward.
Those are just my 2 cent of a first impression coming from a personal hands on. Mire will follow once I receive the U11 myself and go to some more time to play.

How black is black? The G6 came close to AMOLED with a 0.228 cd/m2 and the HTC 10 logged in at 0.29 according to the GSMArena review.

Screen noticeably better than on 10. U11 is a "must update" for anyone holding prior to a 10. For 10 owners, not mandatory (but definitely better in several ways).
anyone listened to the headphones is it the same loudness of of htc 10 ?
Huge ugly bezels and only 71.4% screen to body ratio.
Looks very much like a pixel from the front which had a very "dated" look from the front and that was months ago in 2016. This being 2017 now this large bezeled design looks even more outdated.
HTC failed in this aspect and really should have shrunk the bezels and made the screen larger as 5.5" is just too small and large bezels are an eyesore.
Other than that the phone seems really great on paper to me and has some very desriable specs.

This is good to hear. I'm a big fan of HTC and this device seems a step in the right direction for them. I put my pre-order in and am very excited. I've also always liked HTC for their willingness to let users unlock as they please, dev friendly. This phone has me pretty excited.
One thing I need to know, is the earpiece speaker better/louder than the horribly quiet 10? If I'm anywhere other than a relatively quiet place I can barely hear anyone on a phone call.

Which colour did you pick. I went for black. Thought of ordering the Amazing Silver but they didn't have it at my carried in Germany. Those two colours are the most gorgeous ones in my eyes. Maybe black is better as on silver you can see fingerprints a lot better than on the black one. Guess this would get me on my nerves by the time anyway.
And the glas, as well as the metal edge are feeling really good in hands. Was a warm day when I used it this first time, and it had a good grip even with my sweaty hands. There was no time it felt slippery to me.

I'm excited to see how the device does irl, I never pre-order. The echo dots are cool, but I don't think I will use them much. Also concerned about charging and using headphones at the same time. I do that at work and on flights. I might wait for the note 8, but that is a long way off and will probably be a huge phone.
For the money, I think the U11 is the best bang/buck combo, especially because it is unlocked, will have custom roms and all kinds of tweaks that this great community will use.

Get out of here Sammy fanboy. My current HTC 10 is 5.2" and it's not small by any means. I couldn't care less about the bezels on this device or mine... I'll take them over the gimmicky curved edges that cause a slew of annoyances and functionality issues. I had the S8 for a week and I took that crap back and gladly paid the $50 restock fee.

Given an option I'd like less bezel for sure but definitely not even close to a deal breaker. I have multiple phones Pixel XL is my daily driver, have iPhone 7 plus, S8+ and G6. The G6 and S8+ look great with minimal bezel but using Pixel or iPhone 7 plus doesn't bother me at all.

What is this, high school? It's easy to assume your fanboyism based on the phones you have in your signature and the fact that you had absolutely nothing good to say about the U11... Why are you even here? What is your assumption based off of... that fact that I disagree with you? If I'm an HTC fanboy then why would I even bother with the S8? I guess you just overlooked that. You also forget that barely 6 years ago the first Note came out with a 5.3" screen and that was considered huge at the time... And even now that is FAR from small.
---------- Post added at 07:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------
If a smartphone can be too thin for its own good, we can agree the same applies to bezels. I wager that people wanting less and less bezels aren't accustomed to the issues that come with them. First, a bezel adds strength... I'll let you take a guess as to what effect shrinking it would have on that. Then there's the absolutely annoying accidental touching issues... and no, cases don't help with that unless you use a really bulky case. I've never held or owned a phone and said "I wish the bezels were smaller" nor have I ever felt that bezels impeded any phone's functionality and my ability to use them.

this is a tired and worn out argument. The performance of the U11 in all ways justifies the Bezels. Samsung wouldn't be able to pull off as great as a phone with their Bezel-less gimmick. The Bezels are there for good reason.

Please elaborate, Id like to see what exactly bezels...in particular top and bottom have to do with performance.
I could see before on the m7,m8 etc with the full front firing speakers but such is not the case with the U11.

It's going back. So sad...

After four days, I'm returning my Pixel 2 XL.
It is a wonderful phone in every respect........except for one.
I just couldn't get past the screen. I had a positive attitude and hopes beyond hopes.
I tried. I really did.
No burn-in issues - that wasn't the problem (yet).
It's the blue. Blue everywhere. At an angle, off center, or looking at photographs - everything just had this blue tinge to it that I couldn't deal with. The grainyness and color fringing in the text was there, too. Not cool.
I love and trust Google and have been a diehard Android fan from the beginning, but I paid over a $1000 for this and I refuse to swallow that expensive pill, knowing these annoyances are there.
Why Google? WHY??...
I'm sure Google might send out a patch to deal with some of this, but in the meantime, I'm going back to my Nexus 6.
It's really a shame. The software experience on this phone is amazing. And the camera...oh, that camera. Simply stunning.
Well, at least I get my headphone jack back....
Maybe try a replacement. I've seen some side by side where one was blue at every turn, and another was only blue at extreme angles. Most OLED screens have this problem to some degree, though Samsung has done a great job of minimizing the effect.
The Pixel 2 XL is by far the smoothest Android phone out there and I hope they deal with the quality control issues.

I agree. It was a wonderful Android experience. Smoothest phone I've ever used.
I'm just not in the mood to play "order, return, order return, repeat.." with a $1000 device.
If this were a $400 phone, I might have some patience for that.
I was also having some bluetooth issues, but that could have been the device I was connecting to (car).
All in all, if you can tolerate the screen, it's an amazing phone
I just boxed mine up today to return for a refund as well. I decided that I didn't want to go the RMA process at this stage. It's still too early for Google/LG to tighten up manufacturing quality and it's not worth it for me to pay $912 to maybe get a decent one. I want to see how it is in a few months or possible for holiday sales and re-buy it then but until then.. back to my 6P with its rapidly degrading battery. I should note that I returned mine for multiple reasons including the top selling point of this phone, the camera. I could not get a good pic out of that phone for the life of me and I don't know why. Also, charging was not fast at all. So couple those things with the screen issues (for me it was extreme blue tint, graininess, black smear, and overall terrible white balance/contrast tuning to the point where it was actually uncomfortable to look at the screen without night light on) and it was unfortunately the decision that had to be made. I REALLY liked everything else about the phone and know that the charging and camera must have been a true defect as a factory reset didn't resolve it. So if the screen was up to par for a $900-$1000, I'd have just RMA'd it. So sad.. I really hope Google and LG get their sh*t together on the manufacturing side to fix all the little crap with it and the major glaring issue being the screen. Either tighten up ship with the current OLED display or switch to a samsung panel for better/more consistent manufacturing. I have got to believe someone or many people are getting fired over this fiasco.

Interesting
Not to talk you back into Pixel 2, but there is the fact that the OLED display is designed to display wide gamut colors and is limited in most apps to simply RGB leaving a dull palette and such.... however, Google has said they will release a fix (Saturated Colors) soon..

Then there is this as well:

Yes, I am very aware of that.
My argument is, for spending a $1000+, I shouldn't have to wait.......... for something like that to correct itself.
This is a competitive market and Google should know better.
Forgetting the lousy color gamut, overall the screen is just not up to par for a device of this caliber.
I don't expect this phone to be absolutely perfect, but this screen is just not in the same class as the rest of the phone.
As I've mentioned, the phone, the build, and the software experience is top-notch. It is such a shame that Google dropped the ball on the screen - y'know,.....the most-important part of the phone.
Perhaps in six months I'll try again. But I refuse to spend this kind of money for a product that is obviously not ready for prime-time.

Truly hope to be back soon.
After I posted that, I read a few more posts regarding people returning their 2XLs and the responses literally surprised me. There is so much hate towards people expressing their decision to return it over obvious manufacturing issues and not wanting to deal with the RMA process. It's almost like people are personally offended like they were hand assembling the phones themselves and simply cannot understand there being defective devices out there. Not saying you are being that way by saying "bye bro" bc that is way less harsh than I read earlier but damn. This has become sort of comical that the people who are keeping their phones are defending them so vehemently and not believing others who's phones were defective. It's like basically saying we are whining about non issue mythical problems.

I haven't received my Pixel 2 XL yet so I'm just taking notes..... Let me know if that's still too vague for you
People that RMA their phone for either a replacement or for a return, do you have to pay for shipping or does Google give you prepaid shipping?
Got my replacement today, I also sent back because of blue. Well my new one is night and day difference. I will post pics when my wife gets home. Can easily see the difference.
i'm doing an RMA myself.. but for other reasons.. but before i divulge too much off the original topic... why is there so much variance between displays?!?! some phones start turning blue at a fairly shallow angle.. and some more at sharp angles.. that's ridiculous how varied it can be. the off-axis shift is certainly worse on my personal one vs the one i looked at before (started 20 degrees instead of 40)
and even though off-axis shift isn't really bothersome to me as much.... the GPS lock was unstable.. great when it works... really bad when not. it feels like when i first had my LG built N5.... GPS problems all over again..
GPS location shooting me over a mile away from where i am? unacceptable!!
a display issue i also did notice was how the display dealt with dark colors and blacks... with significant clipping (aka "black crush").. as well as the lag that causes the "black smear".. it is certainly below average.
with after having troubles with GPS location.. i was done.. support was contacted.. and after troubleshooting with them through various steps... they are going to send a replacement.
now, i am still invested in getting the Pixel 2 XL.. display issues or not... but GPS needs to work and that camera is another reason why i'm still going to give it another go. even looking up my manufacturing date (Oct 19th?!).. i felt it was probably not part of any early batches that might've had worse problems... but goodness... i dunno what they're gonna do... send me a refurb? even newer built? i'll see in a few days..

They pay.. Google support emails you the shipping label and paperwork for your package.
more power to you. if you can wait until it goes on sale to buy it again and the kinks are worked out. that's awesome. i on the other hand couldn't wait. but i'm in the third batch. shipping "today" "no movement" lol. so we will see what they have done.
My personal phone is a Pixel 2 XL and work phone is a Samsung S8+ funny thing is off angle they BOTH have a blue tint to them. No doubt it is more pronounced on my pixel 2 xl but it's not detectable looking at either phone and about 5 degree rotation left or right. Using both phone's I never see the tint 99%+ of the time. I guess it's being reported there is a random element in the degree of blue you get when at an angle but really mine isn't that much worse than my S8+ to a point where its not something that even occurs to me unless I am perusing a forum like this etc..
My pixel XL is going right back... In my pocket because it's ****ing dope

Can't speak to the GPS issues. I had some Bluetooth issues, but like I said, it may not have been the phone.
As far as the display - it wasn't "bad" per se - I've seen worse. My complaint was it isn't good enough - especially on a $1000 device.
To reinforce my point, if you put my Pixel 2 XL side-by-side against my 3-year old+ Nexus 6, the difference is mind-blowing. Motorola hit it out of the ballpark with this display. That was what really did it for me.
And for the record, my Nexus 6 also has an OLED screen. Still no burn-in that I can see and that sucker is on, all the time.
