Motorola Moto E4 XT1766 ULOCK BOOTLOADER AND ROOT INFO - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

I ran into a bunch of issues trying to root my moto e4 xt1766 because there does not seem to be alot of info on the rooting of this model of phone.
1 research how to unlock the bootloader this part is documented and not hard through the motorola website.
2 you will need custom TWRP installed. i tried a million of them and finally got one to work and this was one of the hardest parts. once you download it you will need to research how to "sideload" with your abd and install the twrp that way, it may give you an error but even though mine gave me an error it still loaded.
i used twrp-perry-3.1.1-r3.img version. i think i got it here:
https://devfiles.co/download/67ponuqh/twrp-perry-3.1.1-r3.img
3 after you reboot into your phone then either fastboot to bootloader or do a recovery boot. look up how its easy.
boot into your twrp and install the latest version of no-verity-opt-encrypt.zip it easy to find.
4 you will need to dowload a stock boot image to your phone. this is the one i used. i did notice the download came with an already patched boot and recovery image although i was going try them i did not and i may just save you a few steps.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603854444
5 then download the latest magisk apk and install. you will want to choose to install it to the stock boot image you downloaded to your phone.
6 fast boot to bootloader or boot into recovery to your twrp and choose to install the "patched_boot.img" you made with the magisk.
that is what worked for me... spent days on it so i hope this helps anyone else.

Your thread title says xt1766, but your post reads 1776.
Is it the Sprint version? If so, there are plenty of instructions here. They are way simpler than you seem to have made it.
All you need is an external SD card, a TWRP.img (easily flashed with fastboot) and magisk zip, not APK.
Fastboot flash (or boot if you like) TWRP.img
Format data (by selecting format and type yes)
Reboot recovery, then flash magisk v18. Done.
But glad to see you got worked out. Enjoy your rooted e4.

Those are the instructions, but you shouldn't need a no verity zip anymore since magisk v18 handles that for us now

thank you i corrected it. its a xt1766 easy typo.
i tried all of what you just posted and its not for the xt1766 or at least my phone. if you have a link to a sprint xt1766 unlock and root i would like to see it. i have seen many and none of them worked. none of the twrp images would flash to my device. the only one that worked for me is the one i stated. please post one if you got it.

Bro, squid2's TWRP is THE one for the Sprint version. He made the original trees and TWRP for the e4. The newer one in his link is prepped for 64 bit support when he remakes new trees. The older one works great too though. Maybe because you flashed one from another source, it's giving you problems.
Those instructions I linked are specifically for the Qualcomm e4 (which includes the xt1766)
You can flash a new TWRP with flashify, or within TWRP. Just select "install image" then navigate to the twrp.img stored on your device, select the partition to flash (recovery) and swipe.
I've never seen the source you linked. And there didn't appear to be a source or trees mentioned on the page so I would be hesitant to use it.
There are a couple of telegram groups for the E4 with a great bunch of guys building ROMs as well. As long as you're using the device on the intended cdma carrier (Sprint, Boost, Virgin, etc.) They work great. There is also a stock rooted, TWRP flashable, build in the forum now.
The link I posted is the right one. I wouldn't use any other TWRP unless it was posted by the guys here deving for it. But of course, to each his own. The one you used may well be a copy of one posted here.
Keep in mind, the links in the the root thread I linked may be outdated (magisk for sure, and no longer need no verity).
So definitely use newer versions of anything listed

thanks

Is there someone around here who can help me?
I already unlocked the boot from the official motorola page but at the time of installing twrp it tells me a poor error with many img files. Perry several versions and it does not load me at the time of putting flahs recovery recovery.img tells me an error already installed several drivers of mo motorola because I thought that if it was that and nothing is worth mentioning that when in the command window I write fasbboot devices if the Model of my motorcycle e4 xt1766 but at the time of putting flash recovery recovery.img tells me failure, it is worth mentioning that I already copied the file in the adb folder and someone who could help me change the name I understand that this model is old Thank you

[Q] Unbrick ZTE Blade L2

Hi guys! Sorry in advance for my bad English...
I recently bought ZTE Blade L2 and root it(SuperSU) with framaroot. Yesterday I downloaded Chainfire3D( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087427 ) app from Google Play and after I installed the OpenGL driver from the app, the phone doesn't want to boot up :crying:
Luckyly i have .backup file in dropbox but I can't download it to the internal memory of the phone which btw is running with stock recovery and can't restore user data from file loaded in SD card.
Could you point me some ideas for installing CWM/TWRP from stock recovery mode? Or maybe updating stock OS(Android 4.2.2) with Update.zip file?

Too bad, you should never ever play hardcore with your phone unless you have a custom recovery AND a backup of the phone. I don't have this phone but I'm pretty sure there is a facebook group that shares info about it and might be able to help you.

Help to compile Huawei Y625 CWM or TWRP
Hello there! I am new to this, I have been reading and trying to compile a recovery for my Huawei Y625-U03, I hope that my work can help other users with the same model and those who are compiling other variants. The truth is I don't know much about porting... I can compile a recovery.img and probe but I get error with dt.img... however generates a recovery.img without dt. I've been tested importing the file (dt) from the stock rom, run well (with CWM theme, and touch) but I have the same options of the stock recovery ... any programmer could help me? Greetings from Venezuela

I am new at this. How do you install this image? Can you please direct me to where to look for a how to. Thank you.
First of all, you will need to install abd and fastboot drivers if you're on a windows pc, if you use linux, just install abd and fastboot packages and dependencies for your distro.
Connect the phone in the computer using an usb cable, and activate the debug in the phone
Next step, on windows open the command line... In linux, just open the terminal
Now call the abd, just type this (whitout quotes): "abd -start-server"
Wait a little bit, in your phone will apear a mensage to validare the abd acess to the phone, just say yes...
Again in the terminal or command line, type: "abd reboot bootloader"
(do not wait until the phone reboot) type "fastboot boot recovery.img"
After this, the twrp will boot in your phone, without installation (if you install the twrp, your warranty is void), you can use twrp for backup your stock rom for exemple... If you want to install the twrp, just change the last comand to: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
Sorry for the bad english... But i hope that this kind of turorial could help you
Best regards

1.download for Pc kingoroot and after instal root the phone(after this step You lose guaranty.
2.buy some Sd memory card 32gb class 10
3.download Partition manager for Pc,then with Partition manager format Sd card and create 2partition ,first one is extended and format it with EXT4 standard(this will be yours internal storage),the second partition will be Primary Fat32 standard...i was partitioned EXT4 size 9Gb the rest is fat32.

this oem has the bootloader unlocked. all what you would need to do is root it in order to flash anything. (or you could just flash through fastboot).

Oreo On NXT-L09 and L29

Install oreo AL10 chinese version on Mate 8 L09
1. You have to be in nougat, install the rollback to marshmallow creating on your MicroSD a folder named dload and inside this folder put the UPDATE.app, install with the 3 button combo or from the engineers menu, the change from l09 or 29 to al10 is only secure from android marshmallow..
2. Install the rom B100 with the 3 button combo, if you have an unlocked bootloader it will relock, you must have to unlock the bootloader many times here (2 or 3)..
3. After the reboot on the dload folder put the rom NXT-C00B129SP02, unzip this on dload and at the root of the sd put the OemInfo-all_cn.zip.
4. Now you have marshmallow with the NXT-C00B129SP02... flash TWRP via fastboot i will upload all this files.
5. Start the TWRP and flash OemInfo-all_cn.zip
6. Restart the phone on bootloader, flash the stock recovery, restart from adb (fastboot reboot) and when the screen turns black press the up and down volume buttoms to flash the dload... dont let the phone boot winouth installing the dload.
7. Now afther installing this you must be booting on marshmallow chinese version, some times this will take some time to boot, always leave it, if you wish you can update to 8 via ota but you probably aren't gonna have imei or signal, on your sd create a folder named B596 there you have to put HuRUpdater_0.4.zip and update.zip from B596 (everything uploaded in the pack).
8. Now flash TWRP marshmallow again, install the HuRUpdater_0.4.zip in B596 ( when the phone vibrates press the volume down button to install ), when it's ready reboot the phone.
9. Now you have Nougat chinese version ( no signal yet ), on your sd create a folder named B834 ( i will upload everything just to copy and paste) and there you will have the HuRUpdater_0.4.zip and update.zip... update_data_public.zip files..
10. InstallTWRP Nougat and flash the HuRUpdater_0.4.zip.
Now reboot the phone and wait, this will take time but it starts..
L29 To al 10:
You must check on Firmware Finder if your phone accepts the Oreo update.
1. Downgrade to Emui 4.0 any version..
2. With SRK tools change oeminfo y custom.bin to AL10. (You must have unlocked bootloader and root)
3. Download the NXT-AL10C00B172 rom and install with the 3 button combo.
4. Now you will have marshmallow with no signal.
5. Conectar to WiFi and update via ota to the last version, it will be 4 or more, install all versions
6. You will finish with B596
7. With B596 install Firmware Finder y search for this rom (NXT-AL10C17B828 (8.0.0.828), FF-No.: 152726) (Install it via Proxy).
8. Now you have Oreo B829 winouth signal.
9. Flash your cust ( from your region) via Fastboot with "fastboot flash cust cust.img"
9. Wipe everything (factory reset) and booting first time deactivate the updater, if you dont maybe there will be a permanent menssaje)
If you want open kirin!!
Flash via adb this command
fastboot flash system <name-of-rom-image-file>
Install TWRP Oreo, open TWRP, change language to english and search for the option fix encription, swipe to install the script and wipe data, all here on TWRP, now reboot to system and leave it boot, i have my NXT L09 from Colombia, running Oreo 8.1.0 with Openkirin Resurrection Remix OS, sorry for my bad english and i accept comments...

Phone Model "Unknown"
Hey thanks for the sweet tutorial. Amazingly simple but worked so well unlike some others I have seen. Bricked my Mate 8 so many times I still skeptical of the fact that I am actually on Oreo. Thanks dude.
I just have one problem though. My phone model says unknown in the about screen. How can this be rectified? Really hoping you can assist.
Hi, great tutorial, I was just wondering. Is it possible to use any other rom for the AL10 then the chinese one?
nobody will share his experience about this rom on l09? Stability? Bugs?
PD: Step 4 is wrong.. at that point we only have that version on dload but not installed.
PD2: Can't install twrp oreo, must use fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk RECOVERY.img

Thank you for your help! I forgot to explain that, I can say this about the rom, 5 months using it, really good, I think the charge is fast than stock, I thing, never metered, no bugs at all, very functional..
No bugs at all? I'm full of graphic bugs when using split or multiple window...
Can someone explain why we even get signal? in the tutorial since the debranding on all AL10 roms there is no sim detection, and when it comes to HuRUpdate the oreo stock al10 rom it works... The rom has some modifications?
L29 download link not work
What is the latest version of oreo (before patches01-02)? and which of the 5 files should I put, I always have in the system compilation
update.zip
update_full_NXT-AL10_all_cn.zip
update_full_NXT-TL00_cmcc_cn.zip
update_full_NXT-DL00_dualcu_cn.zip
update_data_full_public.zip

"Restart the phone on bootloader, flash the stock recovery"
On step 6, can someone kindly explain which file is the stock recovery image i need to flash?
I answered my own question.... I used Huawei Extractor and used recovery.img from the update.app of the al10 rom.
I finished all the steps, and now my phone is now on Android 8 Emui 8, THANK YOU SO MUCH
but ...........
I am missing all google apps.!!! and the system will not allow me to add a google account,
Is this expected? the same situation for everyone else?

Search play store apk on Google, it is the first result, install it and go.
Experiencing graphic bugs also. Camera app freezes lower half image sometimes. Also, I set the region and language to my country (Colombia) but some system menus pop up in chinese, (dont know what they say) , unable to change or apply themes, some apps wont install from the huawei app store, and sometimes the browser wont connect to websites. On the plus side, the phone is very fast and battery is great.
How can I rollback to L09 nogaut or marsmallow version?? I tried starting the tutorial from the beginning and rollback to marsmallow, but all the update.app files that I used from the tutorial failed using the recovery menu.

So anyone bugless?? I only upgrade to oreo without bug with another method... that don't have network available :'c... I dont know how to have both at the same time
For Signal Fix No need to flash your region cust follow these steps.
1.open any root explorer
2.goto /cust/all/cn/prop and rename local.prop to local.prop.bak
3.restart and wait for 10 seconds
I know its ugly but it works and you won't lose updater too.

►► No, Xiaomi didn't enabled Anti-Rollback on Mi A1!

These days Xiaomi is in the spotlight mainly because of the 4G LTE bug that afflicted Mi A1 after the 10.0.2.0 Pie update.
Despite users reported the bug after installing 10.0.2.0, Xiaomi didn't payed attention to that and released another bugged update, 10.0.3.0.
Many users tried to downgrade Pie to Oreo, with the result of a bootloop just a second after the boot animation loading, and now everyone thinks that is due to the anti-rollback protection (ARB), recently enabled in MIUI smartphones like Redmi Note 5.
I'm here just to say that it seems that anti-rollback is not the cause of the bootloop, as it was not enabled on our Mi A1!
The bootloop is caused by changes made by Pie updates to "EFS" partition, same (wrong?) changes that disabled LTE bands (originals: 1/3/4/5/7/8/20/38/40 - after Pie 1/3/5/40/41)
If you have an EFS backup (for example made by TWRP while doing a full backup of Oreo stock rom):
- You can restore only EFS partition over Pie and get again your 4G/LTE signal
- You can restore only EFS partition and then reflash last Oreo V9.6.8.0 rom
If you don't have an EFS backup
- Someone in XDA released its own backup of EFS, search for the downgrade guide (i don't know what will happen about Mac Addresses or IMEIs)
- Wait for an updated Pie version (that will fix also the wrong WiFi Mac Address, we hope...)

The wifi Mac address is a security measure by Google to confuse hackers. It will randomise it when you reconnect to a wifi network or something like that.

That randomize function should change Mac address between an SSID and another, and that's not the case.
Even so, the user must have the choice to use that or not. Maybe is only a bad implementation of that service.
stesso problema
Same problem, after several attempts I entered edl mode but reinstalling the official rom that is still that of November of course I returned to the starting point and that is continuous restarts, enters fastboot and in recovery but not in edl. The phone is recognized with the command fastboot devices but not with adb devices. The main problem now I think is restart in edl, I can not do it in any way and honestly I would not use that system where you have to open the phone being still under warranty. You do not have an idea about why I can not restart in edl and any suggestions to do it? if you need some information in + I'm ready to make you screenshots to understand together what's wrong. Thanks for the support.

Hello!
Well, I've faced this stupid stuff yesterday and, furthermore, since I was completely unaware of this, I've used MiFlash Tool to clean all + lock the bootloader while flashing Stock Oreo. Result...bricked my phone.
Anyway, since it's possible to force EDL mode by opening the back cover and shortcircuit 2 pins, I was able to revive my phone and get it working on PIE.
Quite sometime back I've made a complete backup of all partitions using @CosmicDan Backup Tool from THIS thread.
I have all system images from stock Oreo.
So...which ones are needed in order to restore just EFS partition?
Cheers!

Well, maybe it's better to ask to CosmicDan as I never used that backup tool
Oh..I thought you knew which images files were needed, as well as, to which partition we should flash it.
By knowing that, we could simply create a TWRP flashable zip in order to restore EFS partition.
I'll try to ask him....although since he's not with tissot anymore, maybe he doesn't want to be bothered by this anymore...
Cheers!
