Is it Possible to Root Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J727T? - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

I've been trying all day to root my T-Mobile Galaxy J7 (SM-J727T). I've followed multiple guides. None has worked so far. Some of the guides mention ticking the OEM unlock setting but I can't find this setting under developer section. I have also attempted to use fast boot. Is there a root solution for this Samsung model? Help me someone please!

I'm not I don't even own the device. I'd never buy a boot loader locked device.
You never know you might get lucky flashing the J327T engineering system image.
If it at least flashes and boots then there's a possibility of root.
It's highly unlikely though and the eng boot from the combo firmware would also be needed.

How do I root

I just got this phone I see several people saying it's able to root but I can't find the method for my model.

So truly, not to be an ass, but please search. It might take a little bit of reading, but you can find your answer in less than 10 min

This appears to have all the information needed to root this device. I didn't try myself since not being able to use a custom recovery due to the locked bootloader leaves little to be enjoyed.

At&t s7 edge can be rooted but the bootloader cannot be unlocked. So no twrp and no custom roms.

Root for SM-t377a (ATT Galaxy Tab-E)

Is there a way to root the galaxy tab E that comes from AT&T? I've found a TWRP image for the SM-T377P version but nothing for SM-T377A which is what I have. I was thinking they might be cross compatible but if they were, I'm sure TWRP would have listed it on their site.
The option to OEM unlock is in the dev settings list so I'm thinking I can flash the recovery but I'm not sure on that.

Kingroot can't root my Galaxy Tab SM-T377A runnning 6..0.1 Marsmallow, I just want to uninstall or freeze those AT&T bloatware but I guess I have to wait coz I can't return it anymore...Thanks ..
Worst tablet ever. Att can't even get their software updates right. I can't use this as a phone because the stupid number sync software keep giving an error and no one at att knows how to fix it. I've tried different dialers and freezing them. Nothing works. Now I have com.android.phone is not responding and their is no firmware download anywhere to fix it. Now I have to factory reset the whole damn tablet lol. I'm going to sell the and get a Sprint unlocked version. What a shame. This tablet had potential too

You can Google "replace Kingroot with supersu". There is a 4 step method for replacing the temp Kingroot with chainfires SuperSu. Even if bootloader is locked. Just found one of these in Facebook marketplace for $50.

I think this tablet sucks, too. AT&T hoodwinked me into getting this thing, and now I'm stuck with it for 2 years. It's slow and choppy--I'd rather have an iPad. My "Next" contract is just about up, and I can't wait to dump their ass for another carrier.
Agree. Hoodwink is exactly what they did. This tablet is SLOW and the bloatware is chewing up RAM. I'm about to dump it for something else. Was hoping to be able to root it so I could kill off some of the bloat, but no joy....

I knew I should have checked here first... but at least I can return it... I figured a device of its age would for sure have custom roms and root. Stupid at&t! Guess I'm back on the search for a LTE tablet that works on at&t for under $300
Hi, recently I bought a cheap AT&T Tab E. It has only 4GB internal storage instead of 16, weird? The tab is almost useless because it has almost no space for new files/apps. Anyone knows what's wrong with the tab? Thanks

Totally new to rooting in general, and researching isn't going well as I don't have any context/experience yet...and the vocabulary is new. I have (literally just bought a few days ago) this version of the Tab E...and I'm trying to root it so I can use it more effectively as a head unit in my 03 F150. I'm finding out I bought the wrong unit to do this reasonably easily.
Would you mind posting a quick walkthrough of how this works? Install KingRoot and then replace it with Supersu to get the tablet permarooted?
Thanks!

Not a big fan of youtube instructional videos, first one available, not sure if its good........
https://www.google.com/search?q=rep...0j7&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=1
This is a guide with a one-click .bat file to supposedly do this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989
Directions for manual replacement:
https://missingtricks.net/replace-kingroot-kinguser-with-supersu-superuser-android-guide/
Remember, this is for you replacing "TEMP ROOT", not when a device is permanently rooted! This means being in the position of Kingroot barely getting temporary root that will be lost when device is rebooted!!! It involves using Flashify (by Chainfire as well) and authorizing it's root ability to flash.
As in every OP on XDA, do so at "YOUR OWN RISK".........

Excellent! I wanted some confirmation from someone with the same phone (unlocked AT&T on N.)
Have you remained rooted since? I'm hearing mixed reports about performance and things stop working.) My primary concern though is our locked bootloaders. If we make changes that cause problems can we undo it? Like flashing the stock firmware? Thanks

Yes, I have remained rooted, but I ended up going back to stock G935A and then rooting again with that procedure. Personally, I was not getting the performance I was used to with the G935U as I was with the G935A with the root procedure.
Yes, there are some things that do not work with these eng.imgs that are being used to root the phones. There is NO Xposed for this one, Samsung Pay does not work, but I have been using Android Pay and it works just fine. As for the Bootloader, it is still LOCKED. There has not been any Unlocked bootloaders for the G935 or G930 so far and I don't think we will see it anytime soon.
As for Undoing, yes. There is a very simple way to go back to stock with Odin. In fact, about once a month, I return to stock just so I can get the latest security patch and then re-root my phone back to this way. I know it is somewhat of a pain, but with Titanium Back up I can get my phone back to running normally in a couple of hours.
Hope this helps...
It's not quite as fast, but if you are backing up and restoring to the same device, you can just use ADB. I still have a TiBu license, and use it on my Tab S2, but I have largely adapted to not having root on my S7 by taking advantage of basic ADB features.

Great info. Thanks!
One followup--when you say Xposed doesn't work, do you mean you tried the newest Nougat version that just got released? Or it never worked, not even on M?

What I meant was Xposed doesn't work on the current version of root using the eng.img. I have not tried using the NEW Xposed that is in THIS thread. I have looked at it but have not had a chance to run the zipped file and installing it. I know it works with MM as I had it working GREAT with MM and the eng.img with that version. I love Xposed and wish that was available for Nougat and N's root. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fully implemented soon.

I tried this 4 times and failed. The problem is it just keeps rebooting (about every 45 to 60 seconds) after I flash the eng boot img. Im never able to run adb commands. If I start from a clean slate I can't even make it past the setup screens to enable debugging.
I'm reaching out to you because you succeeded with the same model SM-G935U
So I'm just seeing if you have any insights. My phone should be the same as yours. Only difference is mine came with 7.0 preinstalled. Maybe an earlier firmware? But that doesn't make sense because people are, to my understanding, using the eng boot with recent firmware.
I'll repost in the root thread if I need to but thought I'd see if you have anything to offer. Thanks

I seem to remember the constant rebooting on the U-Firmware also. I too kept trying and it finally took. I think I would take the OTA from the server and try to install the eng.img with Odin. When you do this, does Odin give you any errors? Or does it succeed at the installation?
It has been a few months since I rooted the U-Firmware so not for sure what fixed the rooting process. Sorry I couldn't be more help...

Thanks. No Odin works perfectly whether I flash eng boot or stock.
I looked at the root guide for Sprint and the process is a lot more involved. I believe he boots to recovery twice and wipes cache plus factory reset twice. He also stresses to get the root.bat run quickly to avoid bootloop.
Might be worth a shot but the process of running Odin, getting back to stock and restoring all my data winds up being close to a few hours so It'd be very helpful to find someone with the same issue as me who was able to resolve it.

Custom-ish ROM (Possible TWRP/ROOT) for J327T1(?)

I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Good ish' Brad, now hopefully someone will get twrp and I'll cough up the money for another cheap t1
Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck
So is there no way we can downgrade further to a firmware that includes the developer option to oem unlock?... I'm about to try and flash what the op posted right now... I'll post results

My ODIN wont work, and I don't know if my phone can be rooted.

Hello! I have lately been using a Samsung galaxy S5 on Verizon, and it has served me well. But, I recently had just gotten a new Samsung Galaxy S7 flat (Sm-G9300V). I have actually used the edge before, but wasn't a fan of it, so I used the S5. I had heard that this phone is now able to be rooted on the Verizon version of the phones. So, I have followed many guides, and have searched my build number for root, and a bunch of other things. I will post some screenshots of my phones information if you can help. Another issue I've been having is when I try to flash the ENGBOOT from multiple different XDA forums, my ODIN keeps failing, even though I've turned on USB debugging and OEM unlock in the developer settings. If anyone could tell me if i'm doing something wrong, and maybe point me in the right direction if you can, this would be much appreciated. If you are willing to help, I would be more than happy to give more information. (Also, flashing a stock firmware wont even work, and It is the Verizon firmware) The pictures are an attachment, sorry I don't know how to put pictures on a thread.:good:
Save your time. There currently is no root for your software version. Your software is bootloader "B" (G930VVRSBCTC1) of which there is no ENG root file as of yet.
Oh. Thank you, though!
